Mi Casa is a great family-run business. The murals on the outside of the building brighten this corner. The interior is warm and inviting, there is also outdoor seating. They open at 8 am and close at 9 pm on weekdays and at 10 pm on the weekend. Parking is available in the Grocery Outlet parking lot or on the street. On my first visit, I had the Chill Relleno. This is one of my tests for a return visit. This one passed my taste test with flying colors. They add mushrooms and corn, which was new to me but it worked. On this visit we had nachos they were fresh, one order was enough for the three of us. On my most recent visit, I had chicken poblano. The leg and thigh were smothered in a delicious chocolate mole sauce it was not sweet it really complimented the chicken. My friend, who had just returned from Oaxaca, said it was very authentic. The plate is served with rice and beans, I am not a bean eater so they gave me more rice. On my most recent visit, there were five of us. For appetizers, we ordered chips, guacamole, and salsa. They were so good that I would go back and order this just for me. For fear, we might not have enough to eat I ordered ceviche for the table. It may be an acquired taste; one friend would not try it. Two tried and did not go back for 2nds I ate almost the whole appetizer with the help of one other person. The main advantage of eating most of this: I could not finish my lunch and had enough leftovers for a nice dinner. They also make a great margarita. I had one each time I had lunch. I will be back. This spot seems to be trending in the area and my guess would be it's because of their drinks. Their drinks are good but a gamble. My first time here, no issue. My second time, the bartender that evening seemed lost. My party ordered the two of the same drink and they were clearly not the same. Sure they were good but not what I ordered... or maybe it was, I'll never know. My food here has been fine but haven't yet tasted something that makes me need to come back. The torta cubana was better than their mole poblano. A new Mexican restaurant has it tough out there to make them stand out among so many in the area. Came here for our last lunch before leaving town. My cousins had rave reviews for Mi Casa Grill, so we had to try it. I honestly can't remember what my cousins ordered, but we all shared the Guacamole and Platano Macho appetizers. My dad had the Red Snapper Caribeño and I wanted something light before my flight, so I just had the Ceviche. Everything was really good and tasted nice and fresh. We each had a cocktail as well. I had a strawberry passionfruit margarita that was very good... strong but balanced. The server was very friendly and the bartender came over to chat and joke with us a bit. Opened since this past February, Mi Casa Grill is a family affair thanks to husband-and-wife owners Blanca Zepeda and Juvenil Magaña, who along with family have transformed a long empty corner building at the intersection of San Pablo and Macdonald Avenues in Richmond, California into a colorful authentic Mexican restaurant. The food at Mi Casa Grill is inspired by the dishes of Mexican home comfort cuisine, which along with their homemade tortillas and bread, has recipes straight from southern Mexico. What makes Mi Casa Grill stand apart from so many of their competitors along the San Pablo corridor is that they are open early for breakfast and all the way through the evening well past dinner time, so diners can get a real appreciation of their entire menu. Our house became very excited when the Mi Casa Grill signage went up and once we saw their menu, our anticipation went into overdrive. We wanted to wait a while until the buzz simmered down a bit and on a recent warm weeknight got that chance to do so for dinner for three. The interior of Mi Casa Grill reminds me of so many of the side streets of small neighborhoods when traveling through Mexico as their open kitchen emanates their wonderful cooking and barrels filled with sangria, jamaica, and horchata added to the fun! When we arrived they were crowded but thankfully there was no wait for a table for our party, as we were sitting in the intimate back corner. The dinner menu at Mi Casa Grill is broken up into sections that is printed in both Spanish and English such as Jardin or Salads, Para Empezar or Starters, Fuertes or Fire Grilled Entrées, Enchiladas, Tortas or Sandwiches, Pidelo a tu gusto or Order to Your Preference, and Dulces or Sweets. To start our meal, we were quite famished and decided to order their Totopos Y Guacamole, which were their fresh homemade chips, fresh guacamole and house made salsa. For our entrées, although there were a number of dishes that sounded so delectable, I opted to order their Enchiladas de Mole Poblano, which were two rolled tortillas filled with melted cheese and an option of three fillings of which I chose one chicken and one pork, topped with mole poblano, lettuce, sour cream, queso fresco, and pickled beans. To accompany my meal I opted for their option of refried beans and Spanish rice. Others in my party opted for their Camarones Al Ajillo which were their spicy gulf prawns served with a choice of beans, Spanish rice, and small salad, and another in my party was so intrigued by my Enchiladas that they asked our server if their two enchiladas could be filled with the prawns that were similar to that of my other dining mates, and they were happy to oblige at a $6.50 additional cost. Our chips, guacamole and salsa came out first and were so wonderfully crunchy and crispy thanks to being freshly presented from the fryer, and were all placed on the same tray as their freshly made and chilled guacamole and salsa. We were so enamored with their dipping accompaniments that we easily ran out of chips and when we asked to order additional chips, we were presented with them in no time at no additional cost. Then our entrées were delivered and they were a feast for the eyes, as my Enchiladas were covered in an abundance of mole and tasted fresh with every bite. It was nice to taste the difference between the chicken and pork enchiladas as chicken was my personal favorite of the two, but both were juicy and flavorful. My dining mates really appreciated the cooking of their shrimp entrées as they were both perfectly seasoned so they were both filled after eating less than half of their dishes, so we had plenty of our meal for takeout. We had a wonderful time at Mi Casa Grill as everything from the service to the food to the ambience was wonderful. Our total bill for our four dishes was 78 dollars before tip, which was reasonable considering the amount of food we received that was enough for two meals. We are so happy that Mi Casa Grill is now a part of the eastern Richmond food scene, as their owners and staff are all raised and reside here, keeping everything fresh and local. I can't wait to watch and enjoy their continued success throughout the years. They are now my first option whenever I have a craving for uniquely crafted dishes inspired by Mexico, which shows mi corazon will always be with Mi Casa Grill in Richmond! read more

Pam and I met here for lunch today. I had been here since my initial review for lunch w/ Nina as well as w/ Lori and Terry. I arrived before Pam and was able to get street parking nearby. I was greeted warmly and was offered a choice between two tables and chose the 4 top in the back. As I was waiting for the woman who had greeted me to seat me, a man who was leaving greeted me and explained that he was going on break. I appreciate that kind of service. Unlike when Nina and I came and had a bit of a wait until we were seated, the restaurant had many empty tables. As I sat at the table looking over the menu I saw that they had chilaquiles. I loved the chilaquiles at Fonda, but they are no longer serving brunch. I have tried chilaquiles elsewhere and have always been disappointed. Looking at the description these sounded closer to Fonda's. I had a choice of red or green salsa and a choice of beans. I decided to try them, choosing green salsa and black beans. When Pam arrived she ordered flautas, nachos to share and some other things. She ordered a margarita and I ordered hot tea. The nachos arrived first. I had a couple of the chips w/ cheese and then the chilaquiles, and flautas were served. Along w/ the black beans there was also a mixture of vegetables, including sliced red bell peppers, onions and small halved potatoes. The chilaquiles were very good. I wasn't really surprised because I've always liked the food I've had here, but I was pleased. The chips were slightly soggier than the ones at Fonda, but that was a minor textural issue and not all of them were soft. The taste was terrific and I will happily return for more. Of the several times that I've had food from Mi Casa, whether on site or delivered the food was delicious with the only exception being a to go order where the pork tasted a bit off. I stopped after one bite and had I been at the restaurant, I would've simply sent it back to the kitchen. I have not ordered pork from Mi Casa since then. Early in the corn season when there is plenty of young tender corn, the esquite is exquisite. I had an order in September and the seasoning is great, but when the kernels are more mature, the dish is different. With young corn, it's fabulous. The ceviche is good and is a large serving. Good prawns and an abundance of vegetables. We've enjoyed the Chicken Tinga Tostaditas more than once. Delicious stewed chicken served on a fried masa base and garnished with vibrant fresh vegetables. If you're bold, you can pick it up to eat it, otherwise, play it safe with a fork. The breakfast looks amazing and we'll have to come back for that. We have only eaten outdoors even when it's slightly chilly and staff avoids the outdoors in the late afternoon and evening. Each time there have been issues with the service. And with tap to pay option, there's a automatic 20% gratuity, so that's not good when they really need a heads up. Early in the year, everyone knew many restaurants were trying to make it work with significant staff shortages. On our last visit, there were three women standing behind the register, looking around around and at each other and not one thought to come outside with our check or to ask if were were ready for our check. read more

The smell of the restaurant as you walk through the doors is warm and delicious! My family came in not knowing what to expect and we fell in love. I ordered the mole poblano with chicken. Not only was the mole exquisite, but they also added veggies en escabeche that added a delicious and unexpected element. My husband ordered the abuelo's torta with chicken and he compared it to his favorite torta in Ensenada. Enough said. My daughter got the platito with chicken, rice, and whole pinto beans. She enjoyed her meal! Additionally, we could not resist the pupusas. They were savory, soft, and not too greasy. We had to take home left overs because we ordered too much! I wanted to try the churros, but that will have to wait for the next visit. Finally tried Mi Casa Grill - why has it taken me this long? I loved everything about it. Solo visit for breakfast, and I got chilaquiles verdes with refried pinto beans and potatoes with peppers. The verde sauce was tangy and rich, especially with a bite of escabeche on top, and the chips stayed crispy and firm for the whole meal, which was a real pleasure. It's a large serving, so tomorrow we'll make breakfast burritos with the leftovers. Warm and pleasant service... a beautifully designed and sparkling-clean interior... fresh flowers and orange-infused water... lots of windows with bright cheerful views of a flock of pigeons wheeling round and round over San Pablo Avenue. I'd really like to express my appreciation for the exterior renovation as well, since we watched this building languish neglected for so many years. When businesses take pride in their building the way this one does - fresh paint, clean trash area, great detailing, and a super-cute outdoor seating area - it raises the quality of life for the entire neighborhood. read more

Came when they first open and they only had one person taking order and cashiering. 2nd time I came they took forever to bring the food. 3rd time (today) they had 4 people... they had no tables "open" they were all dirty from the previous guest had to wait 15 minutes for them to clean a table for us. The lady in the register told her coworker about us but he proceeded to make drinks, after that she told another worker about us and that we needed a clean table. We could of been seated fast if the First Lady just cleaned the table for us, instead of telling 2 other people to do it! After been seated they took 20 minutes to bring my agua fresca and from the time we ordered to when the food arrived it was 45-50 minutes from when we were seated to when we got our food. Such a small of a place to not be paying attention to customers. Seems like everyone is doing everything! No assigned service or host. When you enter the restaurant there's no sign that says to be seated or to wait for host. This place is so good. Every dish I've tried has been excellent and every friend I've brought there has loved it. I couldn't wait to try this place but it was a little disappointing in terms of the service. It could have been that the staff was overwhelmed. I ordered the beer battered fish tacos and a Michelada which was delicious no complaints from me. My stepdad and brother ordered carne asada burritos and they said they were okay. In terms of service, it is not the fastest but that's okay. Our order was taken wrong and we were overcharged at the end which made it a less than enjoyable experience upon our exit. I remember not liking the mole because the chicken was very dry, for instance. The drinks were great. Last night there was not pleasant. there was only one wait person on the floor. At least six tables were full. He tried his best, but it was clear that there needed to be someone working with him. The food was disappointing. Pinto beans seemed to have been poured from a can.
