Food is good but it's the service that is lacking. After numerous lunches here, I had the worst lunch experience today. Did not receive any more service than someone obligatorily taking my order bringing me my tea. No smiles, no can I refill that for you, would you like...? Nothing. And I was sitting in full and plain view of all of the staff, including the restaurant manager. Disappointing. Would not recommend this location to anyone. read more

Met for a drink so I can't rate the food. Chips and salsa were fresh and good (salsa had a mild spice and was not to chunky). Our waiter Julio was nice and professional. The ambiance is intimate: dimmed lights but just a little outside light coming through the windows. The food other's had looked delicious. I'll definitely have to go back and eat. read more

The food here is good. I've always loved coming to eat here. I have a group of ladies that I work with that love to come here when we can all get together and we have a great time laughing, eating and drinking. 3 stars is for the so so service we get every time we come. Not sure why they can't handle a table of 6 women, but they can never handle it. The food always takes forever and OMG why are the drinks soooooooo expensive? My major issue with this place is the volume level. I don't like meeting my friends here b/c it's so noisy and all we want to do is talk. that's my issue, not the restaurant. AS I was sitting there a couple of weeks ago, straining to hear my friends talk -- I thought WHY is this place so damn noisy? how does anyone talk in here at all? It's not a sports bar. read more

Disclosure: I have visited Mi Cocina Las Colinas 5+ times. Mi Cocina is an upscale Tex-Mex restaurant with a cool, trendy atmosphere, outdoor seating, and a full bar with happy hour specials. My Overall Rating - 3 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - Royal China in Dallas proved to me that Chinese restaurants in strip malls can have great interiors. Mi Cocina Las Colinas also proves you can have a nice, trendy place in a strip mall. Once inside, you forget you're next to a MetroPCS because it's well-appointed inside with good lighting and ambiance. There's an outdoor patio but is rarely used during the summer. 1 Star. Service - This has been hit or miss. We've had some great service, but we also have had a bad experience. At least with the bad experience the manager came out and talked to us to atone for the issue. It's ok but not great. 1/2 Star. Food - Honestly, I've never been a big fan of their food. Mi Cocina attempts so be upscale. The ambiance and décor certainly are, but not the food. I prefer Meso Mayo's more fresh offerings. Their chips are a bit too thick for my tastes. And their tacos seem to lack seasoning on their meat. Recently I had their Cocina Changas. The chicken changa had great flavor, but the fried tortilla was a bit thick. Beans are also just ok. Fajitas are good, but they're usually good anywhere. Ask for sunset sauce for extras flavor kick. Unfortunately, there are better options elsewhere. 1 Star. Will I Return? - Yes, but only because of location. It's close to where we live, and I've enjoyed happy hour here (did not stay to eat). I'll make the extra drive to Pappasitos if I want better Tex-Mex, but as far as Las Colinas goes, Mi Cocina is a good, just not great choice. 1/2 Star My Yelp Rating Scale (Sum of all parts): 1 Star - Atmosphere - Is it a cool dive? Perhaps an upscale place? No matter the type, atmosphere plays a big part and I'll give a star if I like it or thinks it has great charm. 1 Star - Service - You can have a great meal with bad service. But that's also what can make a five star joint drop to four. It's important to the dining experience that service is great and on point. 2 Stars - Food - I'll award up to two stars for the food, since this is the main reason we dine out. Sometimes the extra star is given for value, but it's really all about the food. 1 Star - Will I come back? - If I know for a fact I'll return, I'll give this a star. A place has to make an impression for me to return. Each Category can be given up to 1 star except food (2 stars) because I consider all these categories important to the overall dining experience. My daughter and I dropped in for a quick lunch. The service was excellent and the food was delish. We were greeted immediately. The server made a few suggestions. We've been to other locations but this was our first time at the Irving location. My daughter has the brisket enchiladas and it was super good. Nice atmosphere and good customer service.I've been here several times, so I am not sure why I am just now writing a review. A few improvement areas: the chips are always stale and very hard. The salsa is great, but you can't fully enjoy it because the chips are not good. For the prices you pay, you would think they would step their chip game up. Another area for improvement is the temp of the food. Mine was luke warm. I don't like cold cheese. As pricey as they are for tex mex food, you would think they would be focused on the delivery of the food items. A major plus is their margaritas are awesome. Not too sweet and not too strong, but strong enough. Well-balanced. Also, their cheese tacos are absolutely delicious. The tortilla soup is pretty good too. I like Mi Cocina and I will continue going there from time to time, but I hope they make the improvements listed above for a better customer experience read more

Late lunch with my coworkers, boy I tell you it's hard being on weight watchers with this group but they really didn't have to twist my wrist to join them it's Mi Cocina one of my favorite spots. I'd never eaten her for lunch and I must say their lunch menu is reasonably priced and the portions are great. There was maybe a 10 minute wait to be seated, we ordered our food came out in approx. 10 minutes and all was well. The food was piping hot and everything went well as usual which is what I've always experienced at any Mi Cocina. Keep up the good work. read more

This place is AMAZING! The chips and the salsa are phenomenal. I got a Double Barrel margarita and all I can say is wow! My husband and I shared the Tacos Pascado plate. So glad we shared it. Generous portion of tacos and rice w the Avocado slaw. The rice is different and so good! My only complaint is we got the "bottom of the barrel" portion of chips. Mostly small broken chips, which made it hard to enjoy the brisket queso blanco. Service was good and fast. Highly recommend this place. read more

Very beautiful property. Lots of palms & foliage surrounding the restaurant. Large outdoor patio but weather wasn't cooperating yesterday. High winds . We heard the chips were GF bit when we got there the waitress checked & said they weren't 100% sure so best to avoid. Which was a bummer as I love chips & salsa but really appreciate they were honest in case they weren't GF. There is a GF menu. I had the brisket tacos minus onions & cheese (since I'm also dairy allergic). They were delicious. 3 tacos, rice & a nice salad with tomatoes & avocados on the side. I could only eat 2 & shared the other with hubby. The roasted salsa had a good kick & great flavor. I also enjoyed the skinny margarita with organic 100% agave tequila & agave. I am the biggest fan of mexican food around. If it's not done right, I know. (and i'm not afraid to voice my opinion about it) La Cocina's entire menu looked SUPERB. I ordered Milo's Enchiladas which include a chicken enchilada covered with a creamy green sauce, a cheese enchilada covered in a meat chile sauce, rice, beans, and a ground beef taco. Living in California, I'm very blessed to be surrounded by authentic mexican restaurants. Here in Dallas, I was skeptical. This was one of the best Mexican food meals I have EVER had! The restaurant is really nice, clean, and spacious. Contrary to the colorful, loud (but fun) restaurants that I'm used to back home, this place was very quiet, and almost serene. (They even had a waterfall!) The staff was amazing, the food came out incredibly fast, and the margaritas were DELICIOUS! (definitely try the frozen mango margarita) I will definitely come back here on my next trip to Texas! So delicious!!!!!!! read more

MiCocina was the best choice for a Baby Shower. The manager Debra Loving was very pleasant and really made our shower exceptional!! We originally tried to book at Mattito's in Dallas but the management never tried to assist us and never returned our phone calls. We had the best time here at MiCocina's with a large party of 23 people. Our server was Rufino and he was superb!! Of course the food was great and our shower turned out to be a hit. Everyone was pleased and a good time was had by all!! I know if we decide to have another event, we will be calling Ms. Debra again for accommodations. Really disappointed in the quality of food and service at this location. We have been coming here for years and haven't been in a few months, the chips were very greasy but the salsa was on point. I ordered the chicken poblano enchiladas and they were super dry, I had to order a side of sauce just to be able to eat them. My husband wanted fajita nachos, unfortunately they charge additional $4 for beef wether it's a half or full order however our server didn't even ask him which size he wanted, he got a half order which is only 6 for $16.95 which honestly is ridiculously expensive and didn't even come for sour cream! Wanted to charge us an additional 1.50 for it, seriously? Our server was obviously fairly new but he did an okay job due to the fact they were busy but also the restaurant wasn't full. I am quite disappointed with this location. I can definitely notice a huge difference between this location and the Hyde Park location. [Food] I got a beef enchilada, and gosh it tasted awful. The enchilada was on the colder side, the rice was pretty salty, and the cheese was not fully melted. The dish came with two pieces of enchilada. I only ate one fourth of the dish because it tasted pretty nasty. [Atmosphere] More casual than other Mi Cocina locations. [Service] I came here with a group of about 10 people. And our server did an excellent job in taking care of us. Our bills weren't messed up, water cups were regularly filled, and he made sure everything was taken care of smoothly. This has become one and my bf's go to spots for two reasons: mambo taxi and chips. The mambo taxi is one of the best frozen drinks ever. PERIODT! They are super strong too and two of these will definitely do the trick. Their chips are also SO good. I don't know what their secret is, but I think they have the best chips in town. Every time I try a new Tex mex spot, I compare their chips to mi cocina. These are the gold - neh, platinum standard! I'm giving this place 4 stars because their other food falls short for me. I've tried their brisket enchiladas, some fish dish (the name escapes me because it was forgettable, go figure lol), chili con queso, queso Blanco and my favorite, the sunset enchiladas with beef. Besides the sunset enchiladas, the rest of their food is pretty meh. Nevertheless, I learned to stick to my go-to's and enjoy my experience every single time. Their service is always great and fast as well! Pro tip: their mambo taxis are only $5 during their happy hour which unfortunately ends at 6pm. read more
