My husband grew up in Texas and has always loved Mi Cocina but we live in Nashville now....so..... until they put one in Nashville, we stop at the Rockwall store when we're driving home and get our lunch and dinner for the road. His favorite is the brisket tacos. I got the beef fajitas. We added guacamole, salsa and chips and we were ready for the 10 hr drive! Everything was so, so good! I have lived back in Dallas for 15 years now. Mi Cocina, regardless of location, has consistently been delicious. My most recent dinner was no exception Saturday night typical wait about 30 or so minutes but we snagged a couple of chairs at the bar for a drink while we waited. Great and attentive bar service with lots of humor. And chips and salsa. Dinner was good. I basically had Tex Mex southern bbq with the brisket enchiladas. It was a deconstructed bbq plate. Red cabbage coleslaw ( didn't eat- I'm not a fan of red cabbage anyways) then cilantro lime rice covered in pinto beans and bacon. The enchiladas had a bbq type sauce. It was all quite tasty but there were too many different flavors going on. A different pace than "regular ol'" Tex-Mex to be sure. My guy had sunset enchiladas beans and rice which was exactly as he was expecting. The food is expensive and does not taste good. My family celebrated my brothers birthday on a Sat night. We had about a 30 min wait, so got a margarita and they were very good. The waitress was not very nice, seemed to be in a hurry. I understand Sat night is busy, but would like to have someone treat us well and smile. Food just was not very good, my wife requested beef/ shrimp fajitas and was told she couldn't do that. I don't understand, you have shrimp and beef!!!! We won't be back because at the prices they charge, there are a lot of better restaurants for the money. read more

This one is hard to write. There's good and bad. Starting with the good, I had the Chili Chicken Mojo. I loved it. Check the picture. While not as spicy as I had expected, the taste was dead on delicious. I would absolutely get it again. The bad might outweigh the good. Glen ate half of an enchilada and pushed his plate away, completely disappointed. Said it was terrible. So I tried one bite, and he was right, awful. Then I noticed Glenda barely touched her plate. She also didn't like it. The queen of Mexican food pushing away a plate? It must be bad. Connie and Carolyn said theirs was "ok"'but wouldn't come back again. I was confused, since Mi Cocina is usually very good. Service was Extremely slow, but because he had so many tables. He was actually a very good waiter and did take Glen's plate off of the tab. Had lunch there today, freshest ingredients as always. Our server was Jennifer and she was outstanding. I've not had as great service in a long time. Ask for her when you go in. Updating my review because of the fact that we go here all the time, management never recognizes us, and service has been terrible lately. I miss the location off of Preston and Forrest- the owners pop in there a lot so service is good. Everywhere else its not. Still one of my fav margaritas and the salad is bomb!!! Party of 2 or party of 10, service, food, drinks and service have always been great! I ordered guacamole and chips as an app, chicken flauta dinner plate and my dinner date (my Grandma) had the posole soup in a cup which was plenty for her. I had never had posole and was pleasantly surprised with the flavor... I'm not a huge fan of super spicy, just a little spice is perfect for me so I loved this dish/ soup. If you like margaritas I suggest the mambo taxi. Go for the mango or strawberry if you like sweeter! read more

I went with a group of 5 to dinner Saturday night and while we were reviewing the menu I got an electronic warning that my glucose level was falling in the danger zone. Luis Lira was our waiter and he was very quick to get me a Coke after just having delivered water as my beverage. He was so kind and courteous as well as being attentive to our needs. My husband and I ate at Mi Cocina (Rockwall) tonight. We had the good fortune of being seated in Xavier's area. He was an excellent waiter; he was attentive without hovering. He elevated our experience from "just another night out" to truly enjoyable. I also appreciate that Mi Cocina offers several vegan options. Didnt make it past the hostess station. Walked in and waited to be seated. No one approached us for 5 minutes. We even made eye contact with several employees but no one acknowledged us. We were so disappointed!!! We have been waiting to eat here, everytime we come they are packed so we haven't had a chance. Today was the day!!! We both ordered lunch enchiladas, our son had the quesadillas. Everything was so bland. My husband's cheese enchilada was only filled to the middle, the other half was just tortilla. The tortillas are thick, making them hard to cut. The rice and beans were cold and lacking flavor. The soda was off, which seems to be trending in resturaunts these days. I tried to give Mi Cocina a chance a few times, but I am just not impressed. The hot sauce looked like they popped open a can of crushed tomatoes and sprinkled red pepper flakes in it, it was kind of bland. Both types of queso were okay, but again had a canned taste to them. I was very disappointed in the pork tamales, probably the most unseasoned tamales I've ever had, the only seasoning they had was something spicy and that was the very little bit of meat in the tamales. The meat-to-masa ratio was way off, one was more like a masa log! The plate presentation was sad, too, just messy and very little sauce was used on the very dry tamales. We have been too many of the Mi Cocina locations, but this is our home base. We've been here so many times and never had a bad visit. The patio is shaded and decently separated from the parking area so it's nice and comfortable outside. All the food is good and Mambo Taxis are the bomb. read more

This restaurant has the BEST enchiladas. My boyfriend and I come in for lunch maybe once a month and always get a quality experience for a good price. The atmosphere is peaceful and our entrees never disappoint. Hugo was our server today and he never let our drinks or chips and salsa get low. He even recognized us even though we aren't the most frequent guests! I also love I can substitute my rice and beans for a delicious vegetable medley. Man what a great time we had. Anita was our server and she was so polite and friendly. She kept our margaritas coming and offfered great suggestions from the menu and pointed out her personal favorites. She was always available if we needed anything. I struggle with this place. The other day I went with my mother, and I have yet to find a dish at which Mi Cocina really excels. We arrived to the hostess telling us to wait five minutes until the servers were ready to seat us. The restaurant was about 20% full, if that. ??? So we asked to sit at the bar. Our young server tried in earnest to please, but forgot the tortillas for my fajita's. Otherwise he was fine. But the food...how has this place retained its reputation as an upper-level Mexican restaurant? I was horrified to see the poor-quality chicken in my mother's soup. Visible fat and connective tissue strings made it difficult for her to get one bite-sized piece. (gross!!) My vegetable fajitas were flavorless and couldn't be saved by my addition of salt and pepper. And in their vegetable, onions were lacking with I thought was odd...but potatoes (somewhat soggy placed atop the moist vegetables) were there, which I though was equally odd. I give up. Love ordering their dilemma drink! It's a frozen concoction of frozen mango, sangria and margarita (I think), all swirled together. I ordered their taquitos which are essentially flautas that come with a side of sour cream & guacamole and were pretty good. Service was good but I can do without the waiter constantly addressing me as "Sweetie" (3 stars deducted for that). What is it with these young waiters who think they'll get a better tip by buttering up an older female by addressing them as honey or sweetie? If I had been there with a gentleman he would not have been so flippant. I find it disrespectful and offensive. Meanwhile, the gentleman who was seated at the bar was addressed respectfully as "sir". I hate double standards and I hope Mi Cocina's management sees this review and addresses this with their servers. read more
