I'm doing this now because I do not want anyone to miss the opportunity to eat here. To start, my Server, Sue Ellen, was GREAT, and pretty to boot. The atmosphere is authentic Mexican and the decor matches everything to a tee. Now the food. El Capitan, on California Avenue has been my go to for years for great Mexican food. Rancho Grande has just taken that spot. While it is a little out of the way, out on Allen Road near Rosedale, but well worth the drive. I had the combination plate with three entrees. Shredded Chicken Taco, Shredded Beef Enchilada, and a Tamale. Included was refried beans and Spanish rice. One word..... AWESOME!!!!!! I am not a chicken fan, but I wanted a variety of meats. The taco was the bomb. The Enchilada was hot, juicy and good. The Tamale was done perfectly. I truly enjoyed the chips and salsa the comes with your service. We met some friends for an early 4:30 dinner at Rancho grande, we had our choice of booths. The restaurant is a fun place, It's colorful and lively. Jose our waiter greeted us took our order for drinks (vodka tonic) and brought out chips with the spicy black sauce. My wife and I ordered ground beef tacos combinations. Our friend's decided on tacos and chili verde enchilada combos with Cadillac margaritas . All our dinners were brought out promptly. Jose was excellent. There food is so tasty & yummy & delicious! I've been to both of their Restaurants ... the 1 on Brimhall I've been to many times. It's usually at lunch & I'm dining alone. The food is great but when alone, it seems as though we're overlooked. Refills on my iced tea are hard to come by. I tip 20% always. I don't expect them to remember me but I do expect the same service as if I'm with another person or more. I've also dined at their newer location on Ashe. It's a smaller Restaurant but you are definitely serviced. Food is still great here too. My friend had the combo plate with a taco & enchilada while I had a steak tostada. The steak was really good & tender & not skimpy at all & my friend enjoyed her meal as well. What can I say, one of my go to spots. The food is authentic, the service is fantastic, like going to grandmas house and the ambiance is all there. You will see the owner going from table to table greeting everyone ensuring you feel welcomed. Usual spot for menudo on the weekend. Noticed the brunch buffet and went to check it out . . . They had everything, plus menudo and 2 mimosas. Started with a bowl of menudo and then had some chorizo with eggs, potatoes with onions and bell peppers, a cheese enchilada, some pork ribs in salsa and a splash of refried beans. Their refried beans are delicious. Followed all of that with a few trips to the dessert bar (don't judge me), had some fruit, Druid salad and strawberries and crema. There is so much more to the list but I am so full that I cannot think straight. We usually sit in the bar because Monica works that section. We enjoy her service, friendly and professional. It's been a while visiting Ranch Grande and I don't know why. I think the reason was my visit to the Rancho on Panama bummed me out. The Brimhall location was good, the fajitas screaming hot, not burnt and filled with so much goodness beat expectations! They meat was tender, flavorful and peppers cooked without being burned to death like some popular places. Not really sure where to start, but for a place that was packed, the food was honestly disappointing. Out of the three Rancho Grande locations, this one is by far the worst when it comes to food. To be fair, the staff was great--super friendly and attentive, especially considering how busy it was. No complaints there at all. But the food... that's another story. The beans tasted like they'd been sitting around and were just reheated. The rice was strange--somehow greasy and dry at the same time. One of our friends ordered sopes with asada, and the meat both smelled and tasted old. The rest of our meals all had something off about them--either too dry or overly greasy. Too many issues to list individually. The worst part, though, was the ceviche. We ordered two for the table. I've had ceviche from all kinds of places--even sketchy spots that turned out amazing--but this was bad. Somehow it managed to be dry while still sitting in a ton of marinade. I even tried mixing it, and it didn't help. Unfortunately, it gets worse. The four of us who ate the ceviche all ended up getting sick later that night--same timing, same symptoms. I won't go into details, but it was not good. Will I be coming back? Absolutely not. I'll stick with the location off Panama--that one I'd return to without hesitation. That said, it might be a while before I even think about eating ceviche again. The only reason I'd ever consider coming back would be for the service and the drinks--and even then, it would probably take a coupon. read more

Rancho is family! We have been coming to the location off of brimhall since they have opened. The restaurant is very clean and welcoming. They make my family feel at home with their Amazing service, food and cocktails. Believe me when I say this... their beers are ALWAYS iced cold, literally the best in town. The flavor is great but when you say you offer something a certain way on the menu and I order it I expect that. We came on a busy Friday (5:30pm) and only waited about 10min. Once seated we ordered some drinks and the waitress was very attentive. However the food was something different. While flavorful, the fish tacos were significantly limited on the size of the fish in the taco. They also were covered with beans underneath. We also ordered the seafood chile rellenos which note they are "filled" with shrimp and had avocado. There was no avocado to be found, and the shrimp was only on top-total of maybe 8 shrimp. The taste is there but would be great to have it meet minimum expectations of the menu. Lots of people inside who you know don't appreciate Mexican food. read more

A friend spoke highly of this place, so my husband wanted to try it out. It was all of our first time here. We were seated quickly, and our waiter, a young man, was very friendly! There was no issue on the wait time. Drinks and food were brought out pretty quickly. A little too quickly where we joked about the food being conveniently pre-cooked. My husband ordered steak fajitas, and he said they were a high 3. Usually places give more vegetables than meat but this place hooked it up on the meat! My older daughter got the Chili Verde enchiladas. She really liked them. The only thing she noticed was that the pork was big chunks. They could've been shredded or cut more. I got the cheese enchiladas, which i thought were pretty good. The salsa was good, but yes, it was spicy, but on my enchiladas, it was tolerable ( I don't do spicy). They do have a bar area as well. I was served by "Chino" who was friendly, prompt and informative as to my menu questions. I decided on my normal go to to evaluate a new Mexican spot. Salsa was spot on having roasted tones in it which I prefer. Salad was well plated. The prepared braised Chicken was the win! I hade a Crispy Chicken Taco which was a 10/10 for me. The same braised chicken was used in my Suizas that landed in my Top 3 I have ever had. The verde sauce on the suizas was awesome with again, Roasted undertones which was a well earned double win. Beans and rice were again in my top favorites. The Cadillac was pretty basic, but overall Rancho Grande earned a solid 5 stars. Price is comparable to every other place around the Rosedale area. I would put this place as a top spot for food and drinks, when it comes to Mexican food restaurants. Salsa is fairly good but the chip quality is poor. My chips and salsa comparison is based on a scale set by Chile's, which has some of the best quality chips for salsa. Food quality was good. I would say for the fish I ordered it was fairly fishy but the shrimp was way better. Veggies and the sides were pretty decent as well. The wife loved her flautas and the overall portions were larger than most. Drinks were tasty. Between the two of us, we had Mango, Watermelon and Cadillac margaritas. Overall quality was good and they were over ice with salt. Te bill itself was reasonable with the drinks included. Cleanliness of the restaurant was great and the design and decor was very bright and inviting. The outside seating looks nice as well but when it's a typical hot day in town,l it doesn't come off as appealing. Service was good and very attentive, which I also believe is due to the tightness in the bar, where we were seated. Not saying they didn't do a good job but it is easier in this restaurant due to the size of the facility. Based off of everything I have it a 4 star rating. Wish they would allow half stars, so I could give it a 4.5. All in all, this place is a great addition to the area. Note: Less fry time on the chips or get different chips. read more

We like to start out with a large order of guacamole. I love how warm the chips are and how spicy the salsa is. My personal favorite item on the menu is the ground beef crispy tacos. It's so flavorful and is a good size! I truly believe this is the best crispy taco in town! Another favorite are the shrimp flautas. They are so delicious and the shrimp are perfectly charred each time. The service is always excellent. They are quick and attentive. This time we ordered the Carne Asada Entree and made the enchilada have white sauce and it was delicious. We also ordered the crispy shredded chicken taco meal and that was delicious. Meh food, mostly premade store bought food just reheated. Service was adequate ambience was lacking. The most decorative things were their tables and chairs. Otherwise their walls were just filled with hundred inch TVs and not much else character. Won't go back as the food seemed to be lacking both in flavor and quality. Ordered one of their appetizer platters, store-bought chips with melted cheese. The chimichangas and quesadillas were the best part of it but they gave us four chicken wings, which seemed to be out of a frozen bag from Costco/ect and just reheated. We ate one each and then left the other two as they were terrible and rubbery. My Carnitas plate that I got was mushy. They didn't crisp up the Carnitas as I was taught should be done at all and it lacked flavor. Refried beans were flavorless compared to other Mexican restaurants. Spanish rice was OK. Everything else came pre-prepared such as sour cream and guacamole. My partner ordered a two enchiladas platter and only ate one because it was "just mush" and tasted like some white person was back there cooking with a great fear of seasoning even salt. One last thing I was very disappointed by their salsa just tasted like canned stewed tomatoes and had that canned tomato taste but not much else beyond that. read more
