Won't be back. Very over priced unless you order a lunch special. Paid 15 plus dollars for a very average strawberry margarita. There med margs are a true small compared to other Mexican restaurants. When asked if they use artificial flavoring for the strawberry I was told they use fresh. 100% not fresh strawberries. Very run down. Cleanliness was questionable. Service mediocre and we were one of three tables being served. Ended the lunch with a hard sell for a yelp review. Free dessert for everyone at the table with a yelp review. This restaurant is pretty good . A little pricy, but everything is. We shared the fajitas with an enchilada. It was enough for both of us.

The place is not clean and overpriced and really not authentic at all. The last meal I had there resembled garbage more than a Mexican meal. I think it gets the Saddlebrooke crowd who don't know or care about actual good Mexican cooking. I was not overly impressed with this restaurant. The first thing to greet us was the plastic cover on our table was broken and very sharp (see picture)! The salsa served with chips was lacking something. It was just mediocre at best. The menu had a lot to choose from however. I had a ground beef taco and cheese enchilada with rice and beans. The taco was very tasty but needed more cheese. The enchilada was not good. I didn't even finish it nor would my husband and he always finishes my food. Everyone else in our party thought the food was just okay but over priced. My MIL had a basic margarita and it was $11! My basic combo was over $12. They did have a gentleman their playing guitar and singing and that was nice but kind of loud. I don't see us returning especially because we don't live near here. read more

this was by far the WORST Mexican food I have EVER HAD. I can't believe I spent $90 on this meal Which tasted like Chex covered in bland red sauce. Seriously dog food. The food is wonderful, along with the staff. The enchiladas, the pollo mazatlan, and margaritas are absolutely worth coming here for. Don't waste your time or money here. I admit, we're picky when it comes to Mexican restaurants. But this place was among the worst gringo style places we've tried. Sadly, they could not even do the basics well, like serve up decent chips and salsa, or offer fresh tasting corn tortillas with your meal. (Check out the greasy shine on the tortillas in my photo.) My wife had the chicken mole, and I had a "Mazatlan style" poblano stuffed chicken dish. The beans and rice were flavorless and has the worst chopped tomatoes I've ever consumed. My chicken dish was over-cheesed, almost like a pizza topping, and was soupy in consistency. It had very bland poblano flavor. My wife sent her margarita back after one sip and ordered a shot of tequila and a bottled beer instead. The waiter didn't understand what blanco tequila was, and had only three bottom shelf brands to offer. I was just passing on my way to Phoenix. When this places curb appeal made me make an u-turn. When I came inside I was immediately impressed with the decor and cleanliness. We stopped in on our way back from Biosphere 2 for a quick dinner. Chips and salsa were very good. In fact, we decided to take home for five bucks. The service was very fast and friendly, and the atmosphere typical of a Mexican family restaurant. On the waitress's recommendation, we decided on the Chilean Seabass, an occasional specialty offered by the house. It was cooked perfectly; tender and moist on the inside and crispy on the outside. It was served on a bed of creamy white rice with corn and bell pepper, with a side of black beans. Outstanding! I really enjoy this place for the lunch specials. Great taco salads with and without the shell. Service is pleasant, and the chips and salsa (homemade salsa!) keep coming. Last visit, we received the hotter salsa, which was quite tasty and indeed hot to the taste to this critic's mouth. We stopped in here on Christmas Eve mainly because everything else was closed. It always seems busy and looks okay from the outside so we figured why not. Inside was beautiful and smelled great so we were excited. Then we sat down and looked at the menu. The prices were, at first glance, a little shocking for Mexican food. After contemplating just going home and grilling (yes, they were that overpriced), we thought that maybe there was something stellar about the food so we decided to stick it out and give it a try. My wife ordered the chili relleno (her favorite... she is a connoisseur) and I thought I'd test their chicken quesadilla (a very simple dish to nail). The quesadilla was beyond bland. The relleno was overwhelmed by chili powder and tasted terrible (neither my wife nor our son finished theirs... not like them at all). The chips were okay but the salsa was like tomato sauce... runny with very little flavor. Fail on all dishes. The two stars are strictly for decor, not the food. If you're going to charge steak house prices for Mexican food you had damn well better deliver a perfect product and this was anything but perfect. Honestly, we would have been very disappointed in the food at half the price but at those prices it was downright insulting. If you're in Catalina and want excellent authentic Mexican food, go a few doors south from this train wreck and hit Carlota's. They are amazing and priced appropriately. Mi Tierra? I asked for Machaca Enchaladas and Beans. I got a luke warm plate which included rice! The food lacked flavor and was on the high end for Catalina. The portions was very small ( half of what is usual). Our waiter never came back to see if we were happy with our food or to fill up our glasses until he picked up the check! Always been amazing and giving me advice I haven't been there in years but went last night and was so so disappointed my husband had the tostada with chili relleno and he said he didn't even know it was a tostada cuz it tasted so gross no flavor in his chili relleno at all I had the green sour cream enchiladas no flavor no flavor at all the beans on the side had no flavor the food was just nasty plain nasty we will never go back there again. And then they try to overcharge us for drinks they gave a small margaritas and we're charging us for the medium margaritas and we had ordered four beers and they try to charge us for eight beers it just a nasty scandalous overcharging restaurant if that's what you want to call it a restaurant! Been there before seems ok food good. But this last time we had to find the waitress to take our order then when we got our drinks they seem to be watered down. There didn't seem to be a lot of people at the restaurant so I don't know what the real problem was. The salsa tasted kind of bland but the food was okay not great but okay. We'd heard that Mi Tierra was overpriced but decided to see for ourselves. Food was ok, not great. And yes, it was overpriced. The server was great, she's been there forever. She heard me mention that I love Chile Rellenos and said we "HAVE to come back and try them, they're award-winning!" So...we went back for lunch the next week because lunch prices are more reasonable. Usually the way I judge how good a Mexican restaurant is is by the Chile Relleno and I've tried them over the years at probably more than 50 restaurants. I expected perfection here since she had made such a big deal. Sorry to say I was very disappointed! It was the most bland tasting relleno I have ever tasted. We stopped in after visiting the Biosphere. A lot of the other reviews on this place were correct. The waitress was not overly friendly. She wasn't rude, just didn't go out of her way to make us feel welcome. She didn't write our orders down. She came back 5 minutes after she took our order and said she forgot to put it in and took our order again. She still didn't write it down. I ordered a strawberry margarita. It was medium sized. The alcohol content was small. The price was large; $11! The food was average. I got a combo plate with cheese enchilada and a taco. The enchilada was good. I would avoid the beef tacos. The shell seemed store bought, not made in the restaurant. The beef taco had taco bell meat consistency. They laid the taco in the enchilada sauce, so it was soggy and had to be eaten with a fork. The decor was festive. I felt a bit out of place being the only Mexican in a Mexican restaurant. :/ The parking lot was a small dirt lot in front. Not much parking. Overall, the food was decent. I might have saved money, time and disappointment by going to Arby's a few doors down. read more

We were trying to go elsewhere and it was closed for a party. I'm not sure if it was lucky or not (I still haven't been to the other place), but it didn't turn out too badly. I wasn't thrilled with the ambiance. I didn't feel welcome here - it seemed more like a local establishment that only welcomes the locals. Even the hostess (she seemed like an owner) was quite unwelcoming. The waitress was better, though, even if a little overpowering. The live music was too much for this small place, too. The food made up for everything else, though. It was some of the best Mexican food I've had in a long time and certainly the best I've ever had in Arizona. This was a late night stop and a recommendation from the folks at the front desk of our hotel. I have to say it was fantastic. The food was authentic and had just the right amount of spice. Our table had a mixture of foods, everything from a Mexican style pizza to soft tacos and more ... EVERYTHING was amazing. This place makes all the places in Boston look like Taco Bell. The refried beans were cooked to perfection and almost creamy. I fought everyone off of my plate so I could gobble them all up. PS It also did not hurt that is was Mexican Beer night .. so all beers were 2 for the price of one. If you are in Oro Valley this is the place to go. Family owned and the pride of ownership rang loud and clear. Service was great. read more
