This was a late night stop and a recommendation from the folks at the front desk of our hotel. I have to say it was fantastic. The food was authentic and had just the right amount of spice. Our table had a mixture of foods, everything from a Mexican style pizza to soft tacos and more ... EVERYTHING was amazing. This place makes all the places in Boston look like Taco Bell. The refried beans were cooked to perfection and almost creamy. I fought everyone off of my plate so I could gobble them all up. PS It also did not hurt that is was Mexican Beer night .. so all beers were 2 for the price of one. If you are in Oro Valley this is the place to go. Two stars only because they serve beer and our waiter was attentive and pleasant. Food was ok, at best. Salsa was almost as tasteless as mild Pace (which I haven't purchased in many years, but remember it well enough). We like our Mexican food seasoned and spicy! Chile Relleno was decent, but again, nothing great I would return for in the future. Beans in the bean burro were good, but again bland. Tortilla wasn't too bad. The biggest knock on this place is the price! The owner's have some big cajones to put the prices they do on this menu (bean burro $11.95, chile relleno a la carte $7.95). Dinner plates ranged from $12.95 to 18.95!! THIS IS A MEXICAN RESTAURANT! We realize they are located in the plush confines of some nice retirement communities, but THIS IS A MEXICAN RESTAURANT! And a MARGINAL one at that!! Couple of quick anecdotes from the evening: Beautiful evening to have the patio open, but was told that "it has been cleaned in awhile, and was not open tonight." When we inquired about the quality of the green chile, we were told "the green chile's are from a can, but don't worry, you won't see any in the sauce." WTF??? Would definitely not recommend this restaurant. Had the chicken tostada. The chicken was so tough and chewy, I could not even eat it. They replaced the chicken tostada with a ground beef tostada. Not so good either. I would definitely not go back to this restaurant. read more

The staff has always been so kind and fun when we come! We love that this is a family restaurant. We mostly come for their lunch specials, but the whole menu looks wonderful. I am a fan of their Chile Rellenos (good heat and flavor, fresh pepper), but my family always gets the sizzling fajita plates (which they love). It's my favorite Mexican restaurant in the Tucson area, and it's great every time. Oh! and the Sopapillas with mesquite honey are the best around. Light, airy and crisp. Amazing. read more

Service here is friendly, every time we've been. It's a big place with fun traditional decor. Friday night is Karaoke, some people have impressive skills, others, not so much, buts it's all entertaining. Chips and salsa starter is average, but tastes a whole lot better when you start consuming their Giant pitchers of margaritas! My favorite thing is the fajitas...shrimp has five big juicy ones and a ton of grilled peppers and onions. It comes with a side of rice and beans and a scoop of pico de gallo, sour cream and guac. The food is a little on the spendy side- fajitas $20 or so, but easily shareable unless you have a serious appetite. While not the best Mexican food I've had, it's a good option for Oro Valley! read more

Love it. My parents live in Saddlebrooke an we always go to Mi Tierra when i am in town. The pitchers of margaritas are ridiculously big, which has led to many nights in the old people community, driving around in golf carts and causing trouble, mom and dad in tow. The combo plates are my choice, normally a cheese enchilada, taco and whatever else i am in the mood for for the 3rd item. Mexican pizzas are pretty bomb too but will clog your arteries. We always have leftovers. Service is very friendly as well. read more

We like the location, since we travel that way now and then and pickins around those seem slim, we like the decor and we like the promise of the menu. Admittedly, because our dining hours follow our other activities, so we can come in for a lunch at 2:30 pm. I wish this wasn't a challenge but apparently it can be. Yesterday's meal was so-so taste-wise and tepid to cold, temperature-wise. Plate too hot to touch? Beans, rice and shredded bean needed reheating, and with much lettuce/salad on the plate, I didn't want to send it back. At about $15 per person we will think twice about returning for lunch. It was recommended we find the "non-descript" PINK building on Oracle (est. 1986). So we did. Lo and behold...true Mexican experience. Three critical issues for us: atmosphere, food and service are keys to an enjoyable time spent. Well, the restaurant in the pink building nailed it! The interior is classic old world Mexican, our server was Emerson and was exceptionable...whenever we needed him he was there-outstanding! And the food was wonderful. Mi Tierra is a wonderful surprise. We stopped in here after visiting Biosphere 2. We were greeted warmly. The waitress was humorous and very helpful especially when she learned this was our first visit. My wife and I shared a chicken burrito and still had some to take home. It was full of meat and delicious. My wife's only critique was that the guacamole had too much sour cream in it. The prices seemed high but when we experienced the amount of food it was a good value. We have come here for lunch, late lunch, and dinner. Always good service and great food. Why didn't I give it a 5...not sure...should be a 4.5 certainly. We had been out riding on our Razor and Ranger and all of us were a bit dusty...the staff did not mind. It was late in the afternoon, but there were still others in the restaurant. This place is never empty. We had a pitcher of Margaritas and the small pitcher was plenty for four of us. We all had different meals and everyone but me finished their plates (I enjoy leftovers :)). The enchiladas...meat as well as cheese were delicious and filling according to my husband and son. My pork tacos were wonderful and my son's girlfriend enjoyed her fajitas. While I was securing my motorcycle, I watched a young server on his way in to the restaurant to start his shift, stop and hold the door as well as great an elderly couple.which were on their way into the restaurant to enjoy dinner. Very impressive gesture on his part. Once inside, I experienced the same quality of service. The food...absolutely amazing. The menu selections are very good and the are totally accepting of substitutions and changes to meet your particular dietary or spiciness requirements - a lot of places would not be as accommodating to special requests. read more

We made our first visit to Mi Tierra on 12/21 because a friend was playing guitar with a trio there. Mi Tierra is now on our list of restaurants to visit again. We're not experts on Mexican cuisine, but my shredded beef enchilada dinner was excellent. My wife enjoyed her cheese quesadilla, which looked really good. The staff provide plenty of home made salsa and warm chips. The service was friendly and attentive. And the trio made the trip even more enjoyable. read more

The food was great as well as the service. However, 31 dollars for a pitcher of margaritas? Hah! And 15 dollars and up for entree plate is too much. It's just overpriced because it's in Oro Valley. The inside is nice and inviting. The salsa is extremely mild and full of tomato paste. The flat enchiladas were good but small. We used to eat here regularly when we first moved back to town in 1999 and it was great. Then we had several nasty meals in a row with bad service on top of it. We tried it again in 2015 and the food was still bad. We decided to try it again tonight to see if things changed. Well, they didn't. On top of the food making us physically sick to our stomach, the cheese in our enchiladas wasn't melted, the tortillas were tough, the sauce tasted like pure Tabasco sauce and gave me a headache like it had msg in it. We found a good restaurant right after getting off the plane last week, then still wanted more while visiting Tucson. Very dissapointed! Not only was my green chile burrito bad (not right/ father in law thought rancid) but the staff defended 'it'. Implying that I did not know good tomatillos, or other ways they could be prepared. On a lark, Gary (1/3 of my "dining trio") and I decided to drive up to Mi Tierra, which is on the southern edge of Catalina (the north end of Oro Valley). The restaurant sits in its own building, facing Oracle Road, so it's easy to find. I remember eating here many years ago, but I had not been here in too long. Time to go back! We were seated promptly at a table for two right next to the small room below which was the bar, which is separated by glass. The restaurant has two levels, with many tables adjacent to a wall that is all window. The slightly higher level overlooks the bottom tables with a balcony dividing the two rooms, so it also has nice window lighting. Gary and I liked the ambiance. The restaurant was nearly full, being a Friday night. We enjoyed the complimentary chips and salsa (very mild) while waiting for our entrees. Gary ordered a combo of a grilled chicken fajita, cheese enchilada, rice and beans. I ordered a "house especial," of two chicken enchiladas with sour cream (no calories ,of course--ha ha), with rice and beans. Both dishes were excellent. My enchilada was without the usual red (or green) sauce, but it tasted just great anyway. Gary really liked the flavor of his fajitas, calling them some of the best he's had. We thought that the prices were a bit high (around $12-13.50 or so for the dinners), but the quality and portions were excellent, too. The server was pleasant enough and a young man (bus boy?) made sure we had enough chips and salsa. We had a positive dining experience and will come back here. I think they may have a buffet one of the week day nights, and will check that out.Excellent food! TIP: The Entertainment book may list Mi Tierra as well as some local coupon books. I have been to Mi Tierra mutiple times when visiting my grandparents in Oro Valley. It is a solid choice for mexican food if you are in the area. There must be some reason it is the go to place anytime guests come. The margaritas can be huge so watch out! The chips and salsa and food overall is pretty good. We just recently really enjoyed the shrimp fajitas. The service is very nice and the prices are affordable. Get over to Mi Tierra Restaurant for your mexican cravings! read more

I've only been here once an had a great experience. I don't live in Arizona and this is the only Mexican restaurant that I have tried in that area. The food is decent but the service is way better than the food. I had shrimp enchiladas, the shrimp could have tasted better and they could have added more shrimp. read more

Mi Tierra has your typical (Americanized) Mexican fare, but for the price you get a lot of food and the taste quality is about average. They have pretty darn good margaritas and you can get a really good value if you order a pitcher. read more

Living in the SW and spending years in Mexico, we know good food. Last night was the worst Mexican food I have ever been served, and the service was slow too. Even the ice in the watered down margaritas had a strange odor and taste. Had to dig down through a big pile of lettuce to find the food on the plate. The bean tostada had the aroma of kitchen cleaning products. $51 for a dinner for two with a small pitcher of margaritas which was weak with little tequilla. Taco Bell would have been better food at a fair price. This was once a great place for good food, but no longer on our list. read more

We received a coupon for the restaurant and my husband and I thought we would give it one more try. The salsa tasted like tomato sauce. No flavor. Our drink arrived after our food was served. The beans and rice didn't have much flavor and the cheese in my cheese enchiladas wasn't melted. My husband isn't picky but he agreed he has tasted better. Our service was also a disappointment. My wife and I went to Mi Tierra last night for dinner. We had received a 2-for-1 entrée coupon in the mail, so we decided to check it out. We got there early - about 5:30 on Friday evening - and the place was crowded. We noticed that no one was sitting in the patio, so we asked to sit there, but was told by the hostess ("I'm not supposed to sit people out there because of the spiders" WTF?). Anyway, we took a table inside. We noticed that everyone in the restaurant besides ourselves was about 70 years old, and the place started clearing out by 6:00. There was no happy hour, which I thought was unusual. But service was prompt and attentive. The bowl of chips we got was small (maybe because 70-year olds can't eat a big bowl), but was refilled for us, and the salsa was very good. We started with chicken tortilla soup (the soup of the day). For mains, I had shrimp fajitas, and my wife had shrimp in garlic and butter. There were some sides that I hadn't seen before - they were in Spanish, and our waiter explained that one of them was pinto beans that has been soaked in beer for over 12 hours. I ordered that as a side instead of the refried beans that came with my fajitas, and they were...interesting (kind of acidic, but not bad at all and very unique). The chicken tortilla soup was excellent: not the thickened kind of soup, but the brothy kind, which is more authentic and the kind we like. Fresh avocado and delicious pulled chicken with just the right amount of cheese. The fajitas were fantastic, also, and we really liked the handmade tortillas served with our entrees. My wife's shrimp in garlic and butter was very good. The margaritas we had were excellent, as well. We shared a large $12 margarita; I thought the price was a bit steep until I saw the size of it and realized it would be enough for both of us. To finish, we had fried ice cream, which was just pretty good. Service was very good, food and drinks came out quickly, and the overall quality was very good. Oh, there was also live music, which we appreciated. My only complaints: no beer on tap (I won't order canned or bottled beer if I'm out), and I hope they can start seating people on their patio soon. read more

We just moved to town and this was our first visit. We wanted to find a Mexican restaurant that was close to our house. The staff was wonderful! The food was great and the atmosphere was fun and relaxing. The food portions were very large. After dinner we ordered several desserts (there were 9 of us) and they did not disappoint. The tres Leche cake was exceptionally good, as well as the fried ice cream. We also had a lemon cake and blueberry chimichanga that were absolutely delicious! I've been going to Mi Terra for eleven years and frankly my experience has been mixed. Tonight I had their special ( which I strongly suggested they make it permanent) the Sea Bass. The best Sea Bass I've ever had. Perfectly seasoned. Perfectly cooked, moist and flakly. A wonderful salsa topping and the presentation was five star. My wife's meal (Beef Tostada) was mediocre at best. I don't know what to say. I wish this restaurant could get its complete act together. Thanks to my waitress for recommending the Bass. read more
