I really want to love this place because of the friendly, prompt service. But here are my thoughts: Noodle soups are what MIAN is known for. I can't say the food is my favorite, but they are fast, friendly, and their meats are of great quality. But their soups don't have enough broth, the broth doesn't have enough flavor, and it's missing that rich, simmered umami you should expect from a hearty bowl of beef noodle soup. Their chili wontons don't have the correct flavor or spices. It's really just chili oil - the same chili oil you use as a hot sauce. Mapo tofu was the worst I've ever had. It was plain tofu in a weird, watered down bean flavored liquid. Potstickers were pretty good, though. Nice and crispy. Definitely made in-house. We come here because it's so close to home and 45 minutes closer than the best in Alhambra, San Gabriel, and Monterey Park. Otherwise we wouldn't come here. read more

The servers mainly just bring the food out and stand around chatting about their personal lives. No real interaction, no check-ins, just this one Asian waiter complaining to another about his life. But when it came time to pay? Suddenly it was urgent. I left my card on the table to use the restroom, and in the few minutes I was gone, they ran my card without me and told my cousin he had to pick a tip and sign on my behalf. When my cousin noted that the cardholder was in the bathroom, they claimed the payment had already gone through and it couldn't wait. The food is still good, but the service is ASS. It's like the staff are insulted that you happened to patron their business. If you have a friend who is not sure what numbing spice tastes like, just bring them here. The noodle soups have ratings for both spiciness and numbness. We tried the numbing beef soup noodle ($16), which was the highest on the numbness scale, and my mouth transcended into a feeling it's never experienced before. It was soooo numb! The flavor was good though and I feel like it was still addicting to eat. Between the 3 of us, we weren't able to finish the soup without suffering though hahaha. We also got the spicy beef soup combo with pickled cucumber appetizer ($21). The cucumber was pretty standard, but it could've used a bit more flavor. Good food but they really need more staff. I saw in the window they are hiring and I see why. There was one lady doing everything, seating people and telling them how to order (more on that in a minute), water, take out orders, etc. First, you order by scanning a qr code on the table, not just to see menu but to actually order. I was not looking for spicy that night and it was not suppose to be but mine had more chili in pictures for spice but i took a chance. But indeed mine was spicier than his. Food was great, we loved our pan fried pork dumplings, pan fried chicken dumplings (both like a smash-burger style serving of dumplings), the zhiajiang noodles were amazing, and the spicy beef noodle soup tasted like home. The golden soup was nice and comforting and a step away from spice. Popcorn shrimp was also good. Cucumbers were a favorite at the table. The steamed bok choy was still a little raw when served but the sauce was great and it reheated nicely at home later. I would say the servers seemed stressed even though it was not busy when we went, and it felt like we had to beg to get our drinks which took more than 20 minutes to get to us, after our food had already all been served. Wifey and I are regulars at Mian, esp on Friday night HH after a long week of work. The food itself is very tasty and let's say quite spicy. The "medium" level of spice for the soup might be considered very spicy for some folks. We've tried several different soups, but one of my faves is the Sichuan *cold* noodles. Yes, it's cold soup, but the flavor is amazing, and I think that the flavors come out even more when it's not a hot soup. We have also tried several of the dumplings and have been quite pleased with all of them. If you aren't too hungry, six of these (to an order) might be enough to satisfy your hunger. There were street parkings around the neighborhood. The short beef rib noodle soup was $19 and chicken soup was $15. So with a discount during happy hour, the price would be cheap. Also there is a 50% off of all beers. Unfortunately we didn't go during Happy Hour but that was fine. Service was fast. We went during nonbusy hour. The portion was big. The restaurant offers many levels of spiciness or numbness to choose from. I went with little numbness (not mild) but it was not spicy at all. The numbing level was adequate because I could feel tingling around my lips. Overall the dishes were tasty. The chicken soup didn't have skin on, only shredded chicken. We didn't have to add extra spices because there aren't any around the table but the flavor was adequate without adding extra things. The handmade potstickers were nice additions. OBSESSED. Absolutely obsessed with this place. I picked up a Spicy Beef Noodle Soup with extra chili oil & Szechuan two weeks ago and went back last week to get it again.. The interior is clean, and industrial looking. The servers were all friendly and very helpful with my order. I loved the container design that had the soup and noodles separated so it doesn't get soggy. There was a LOT of beef and it was so tender. There was a lot of tendons in the beef so it was all gelatinous and delicious. You could tell it was simmered for a long time. They do not skimp out on the Szechuan peppers if you ask for it so if you're a mala lover like I am, you'll be in heaven. I ordered an appetizer of lotus fries. I wasn't sure what to expect: I was thinking it would be more like lotus chips but it ended up being exactly like french fries but with lotus. It came with a side of ketchup and soy sauce and was very good. I would definitely recommend - especially if you like lotus! For my main, I ordered the spicy beef noodles to maximum spice and medium numbness. I was very happy with the decision: maximum spice was sufficiently spicy (but not overwhelming - the heat didn't hurt and didn't slow me down with the food) and the medium Sichuan peppercorns was an appropriate amount of numbing without being too overpowering (which is an issue I've found with a lot of Sichuan places). The broth was a bit on the salty side but it still tasted excellent: it was still rich in flavor. The beef was absolutely delicious: very tender and no toughness. Overall, I was very happy with the meal! There's another location in the San Gabriel Valley. I would recommend this local chain to anyone looking for some solid Sichuan food. We had to guess how to order using their system for the first time. 4) Clueless on how to order, we ordered their spicy fries(best thing of the night), tofu noodle bowl, orange chicken w/ rice, mung iced tea(came in a to go cup even though we were dining in) sparkling grapefruit seltzer, and pumpkin rice cakes.The waiter/host brought all of our food at once with her thumb in all the dishes. I didn't see it touching the food, but there was a box of gloves on the same counter she retrieved our food from. The other two waiters hung out at the counter waiting for more orders. The sauce was like a vinegary mung bean sauce with chili peppers green onion and sesame seeds. I didn't taste any citrus. The rice was fine, just wasn't served how I am used to like . My brother liked the mung bean tea, slightly sweet and help with the heat of the tofu bowl. Wish he had more. The grapefruit seltzer tasted like LIKKA! It was strong. Flavor was different but I finished it. Now these pumpkin rice cakes were orange mini cakes but didn't taste like pumpkin. I think it had bean paste in the middle. They tastes like fried mochi donuts, not sweet. Usually I would take weird/rude service if the food is amazing. In my opinion, it definitely wouldn't be a mis-STEAK checking out the newest location of Mian in West LA. As someone of Taiwanese descent, I tend to be very picky about what I deem the national dish of Taiwan, and I was really impressed with how incredible their spicy beef noodles were. I ordered Mian through delivery, and it took over an hour to deliver and needed to be reheated. Nevertheless, the soup was so deeply flavorful and delicious without being overly savory (although it was a bit on the oilier side), and I was definitely impressed with the quality, tenderness, and generous quantity of beef steak. If you have a bit of a larger appetite, I would definitely recommend ordering extra noodles, but this was definitely a very fulfilling portion for me. I definitely can't wait to check out the restaurant in person, and I would assume that it's even better fresh. I would say it's accurate in that it's regular spice/numbness but it pairs very well with the barley tea. I checked other reviews to make sure I wasn't crazy. There is a manager there that is rude and probably racist. The food is a solid 7 maybe 7.5 but this manager takes it to a 2. He's extremely rude and dismissive. I can tell (through asking) some of the employees don't even like him. Spent 80$ yesterday and 40$ today. He refused an accommodation I asked for just yesterday and got approved. He saw me put my order in on the kiosk, and, instead of bringing me my order or letting me know it's ready (like other waiters have done) he placed it by pick up and just waited. Then when I got up to get it he acted like I was bothering him and just said "name?" TWICE like I'm a child and not a grown man.
