Food here seemed to look good but the taste was complete opposite. I think I should have gotten the hint when we walked in and all the tables still had dirty dishes on the tables, but only one customer was paying. Also, he didn't clean off our table very well. I had to bust out my alcohol spray and wipe the table. Oh did I mention that chicken was left on their counter just sitting there entire we were there waiting for food and when we left. Not once did the cook touch it or move it so god knows how long thy meat has been sitting there. The xai long bao was okay in taste. I've like Trader Joe's better. And I've yet to find a place comparable to DTF. I ordered some The white fish dumpling was good, but it was missing something. Still DTF is better. For the price as well. The wonton noodle soup, was okay. Noodle was bland. The wonton tasted the same as the xao long bao. The broth was so-so. The BBQ Pork Belly Buns. Those buns were hard and one bite into the thing, I spit it out. My kid did the same thing. How in the world do you mess up BBQ Pork?! I ordered the Taiwanese popcorn chicken with a side of rice and scallion pancakes. The popcorn chicken was very reasonably priced for the portion size and came with plenty of pieces. The scallion pancakes were priced a bit higher than I expected, but ultimately worth it. The chicken was extra crispy and well seasoned. It didn't have the familiar five-spice or cinnamon note I usually associate with Taiwanese popcorn chicken, but it was still very good in its own right. It also came with a side of sweet chili sauce, which paired well. The scallion pancakes were also a standout. I happened to be in the area around lunchtime and saw the sign for Qi Steam Kitchen. Being a fan of dumplings, I knew I had to try this place out. There was a shared parking lot which made it easy to park. Upon walking in, the place was empty which felt a little strange since it was prime lunch time. No one was behind the counter so I stood there and perused the menu while waiting. Another customer came in and stood behind me. After a few minutes, a gentleman came from the kitchen. Since we were both dining in, he asked us to sit and he would come take our order. I grabbed a table and he promptly took my order. I chose the Spicy Shrimp and Pork Dumplings and the Beef Burrito (an odd name for what I've always known as a Beef Roll) as well as a glass of Thai Iced Tea. While waiting for my order, I looked up only to realize that my view to the outside was obscured by a shelving unit filled with boxes and supplies for the restaurant. While I am accustomed to seeing visible supplies at many small restaurants, this is the first time I have seen them in a dining area, much less blocking the view to the outdoors. That said, there was a side window with an unobstructed view, but come on! What an ugly sight for a customer. The food arrived fairly quickly. The dumplings were in a nice oblong shaped bowl and were swimming in chile oil. The Burrito, aka Beef Roll, was cut into 8 pieces on a nice plate. The beef roll was underwhelming. The pancake it was wrapped in was thick and chewy and lacked any salt. The beef tendon inside was incredibly tender but there was very little hoisin sauce and cilantro to counter the bland pancake. The dumplings themselves were quite flavorful though the chile oil was under seasoned and the chile flakes tasted burnt. The Thai Iced Tea hit the spot. When I look at this type of Taiwanese food, my gold standard is usually Joy, Pine & Crane or Seven Grams and I judge all others by that. The dumplings at Joy are in a delicious sauce mixed with chile oil. These were only in oil and with the chile flakes tasting burnt, it was not a great dish. The beef roll would have benefitted from more hoisin, more cilantro and possibly some julienned cucumber like the one at Seven Grams. And the pancake needed to be thinner with a pinch of salt added to the dough. Overall, I doubt I will be back. It's not that the food was bad. It was simply underwhelming compared to other such establishments so I am subtracting a point for the food. And the shelving unit with supplies should have been located elsewhere. That is not a pleasant view as a guest so I have subtracted another point for that. read more

We found this nice dumping place while apartment shopping. There is a small parking lot out front and I was lucky to get the last spot directly in front. We ordered the soup dumplings, pot stickers, and pork rice bowl. And washed it down with a Thai ice tea. They bring a water bottle and cups to the table which is a nice touch like you see at Korean restaurants but more rare at Chinese or Taiwaneae food. The food really hit the spot. I really wasn't sure what to expect. The restaurant was clean and the server was nice. The best part are the photos on the menu. My son and I got the Taiwanese popcorn chicken and an 8-piece order of pork/shrimp dumplings. The dumplings were really tasty. I also really enjoyed their Szechuan chili oil. The oil was not too spicy and had a nice, mild flavor that didn't overwhelm the palate. The popcorn chicken was pretty average. It tasted okay but the oil was clearly nearing the end of its life so the oil flavor overpowered the chicken. We had the scallion pancake, spicy braised beef buns, braised pork rice bowl, and the mapo tofu bowl. Unfortunately, most of the food was subpar, apart from the braised pork rice bowl, which was just average. The mapo tofu bowl was the most disappointing of them all-- the sauce was just sambal mixed with cornstarch. It's an order at the counter type service, and the ambience is cafeteria like. Solid dim sum! We ordered a few dishes for take out a few months back but finally had the chance to write this review. Really loved their crystal shrimp dumpling! It was like a traditional shrimp har gow but on steroids and almost 50% bigger. This was freshly steamed with a thin skin but tons of shrimp inside! I definitely recommend ordering this! The pork sui mai's were also much larger than what you get at a normal dim sum restaurant. The meat filling was busting out of the wrapper! Potstickers are meant to be eaten fresh in the restaurant but because we ordered togo the crispy bottom was a little soggy from the condensation. They were still very flavorful and contained a generous amount of filling. The chicken fried rice was prepared well too with a good wok flavor. The restaurant was very clean and is located at the corner of a small strip mall next to Papa John's pizza. Parking can be a bit tight during dinner time. read more

Enjoyed the food at Steam Kitchen a lot! The Dan Dan Noodles are a hit. They can get busy around lunchtime so I'd recommend placing your order ahead of time. The location is conveniently located off of Olympic and San Vicente. You can park in the lot or find public street parking. Service was friendly and quick, but one downside is that they do not have a robust staff to take orders and simultaneously maintain the cleanliness of the dining areas. Our table wasn't cleaned and on arrival we noticed trash left behind from a previous guest at another table. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, a properly cleaned establishment goes a long way in enhancing a guest's dining in experience. On a recent trip to Long Beach, the fiancee, Amy T., and I were at one of the museums nearby and got hungry from the walking around. We saw this nearby spot that was pretty decently rated. We walked in, and it was a small spot that only had a few tables, but we sat down and ordered Singaporean noodles, chicken xiao long bao, and crystal shrimp dumplings along with Thai Tea to drink. Although a little more pricey than what we imagined a fast-food style lunch dim sum spot to be, everything was nice and hot, and the dumplings were really good! Pretty packed with filling, no tearing of the outside, and good flavor. I think the XLB could have used a little more soup, and we didn't get a spoon with it, so the soup that was in there ended up mostly on the plate. There was a small mistake with the Singaporean noodles, but the staff was kind enough to bring out another with the right ingredients from the menu, which we really appreciated! The Thai tea was fantastic as well - perfect balance of sweetness, creaminess, and tea! Overall, a solid place, and I'd go again to try some of the other things on their menu! read more

I had a much better experience this time around! Instead of ordering from an app for pickup, I went straight to the restaurant to place an order. The order took about 14 minutes. It made a bit difference as I was there to bring home my food right after it was being made. I normally take note on the reviews I previously made but i am glad gave the soup dumplings another chance. This time there was flavorful soup in each dumpling. The casing is a thick but still very good. My order comes with garlic vinegar and soy sauce and although some people add some in the large spoon and take it in one bite, i would sip out the soup and put the vinegar and soy sauce in the dumpling. The crystal shrimp dumplings are delicious! I think they are like har gao. The Beijing beef burrito is very flavorful! I am used to pan fried with a slight crisp but this location seems to deep fry it. One order would fill you up so if you are like me and would like to have different things to eat, this would be perfect for sharing. Sesame seed dessert balls are smaller than what you normally get at the bakery, but I like how they make it this size. Three of these would equal to one and it is very filling. With the smaller size, it's perfect to share! I am definitely coming back to try more dishes! read more

We walked here after visiting La Brea Tar Pits (0.5 mi walk thru a residential street). You order at the counter and they bring the food out to you. The menu was pretty decent - lots of comfort foods like scallion pancakes , fried buns , Lion head meatballs, beef noodle soup , and lots and lots of dumplings. We ordered beef noodle soups and and the pork xiao long baos. Both were solid - portions were decent and the dumplings were so so good. I loved that the broth for the beef noodle soup wasn't too salty (which seems to be a problem at a lot of restaurants). I have never eaten here in person, only ordered online. If I ever do go in person i will edit my review with my experience. So far the best Dim sum I've had in LA. Better than din tai in my opinion. I've tried a few dishes, the only one that I think is better at din tai is the pork xlb. Their pork xlb is good though. Great Thai tea. Their cucumber salad is insane. I could eat buckets of it. Bok choy is good, always cooked perfectly. Their spinach and mushroom baos are so good. It's hard to find good vegetarian bao and these are great. The vegetarian dumplings are also very flavorful. I loved the crystal shrimp dumplings, super juicy. It's definitely my go-to for dim sum cravings right now. read more
