I have been going to Dr. Capio since October 2023. I love the staff and how welcome I feel each time I go. I receive excellent care and love that the hygienist, Daria, I had this visit explained everything she was doing and made sure I was doing ok. This visit I saw Dr. Chyu as Dr. Capio was off, and she is excellent, explained everything and also took the time to answer my questions. I also want to mention the new Adult Wellness Plan. I signed up for it right away. It is something both existing and new patients should check out. I am an adult but I love that I can get a Gold Star when I have a great checkup.!! read more

Dr. Capio took over Dr. Sherman's practice when he retired so I was grandfathered into their clientele. I continued to see Dr. Capio for many years until I got fed up with his practice. The staff is competent; however, I take issue with the hygienist whose name is Tra (sp?) who has said pretty invasive and unnerving comments to me over the years. For example, when she asked about the number of kids I had, she told me I should have more because my only child would get lonely... (like it's any of her business). Another time, she told me that I'd be so much prettier if I could just fix my crooked bottom teeth. And when I told her it's fine because no one sees it, she proceeded to tell me that SHE sees it, so I need to fix it. Um, hello? I get that she probably means well, but someone needs to give her customer service training and tell her that one should never speak to patients this way! Tra has done an okay job of cleaning my teeth, so I just sucked it up and tuned her out all these years. She did, however, make my experience quite unbearable. A worse issue I have with this practice is with Dr. Capio himself. I asked him on separate occasions why the back of my teeth feels itchy, but he couldn't give me a definitive answer. He'd just show me my x-rays and conclude that I had "great teeth." When I asked him about my gums again 8 mos. later, he finally checked my perio-chart and saw that the gums around my upper molars have receded so much, I was in dire need of deep cleaning! To think this whole time I've been suffering from periodontal disease and I was gaslighted into thinking I had great teeth! That, for me, was the last straw. When I asked Dr. Capio about this, his excuse was that my x-rays don't reveal the back of my mouth and my gums were hidden from view. It sounded like such a big cop-out because all of my perio-charts consistently showed the same data--he just didn't use all the info he had to address my needs accordingly. I trusted him as my dentist to provide me with the best care, but he failed! I long endured his hygienist's rude comments and chalked it up to her generation's way of connecting with others, but I could not abide by this dentist's incompetence. I got hit in the tooth with a heavy metal bar it chipped my tooth. I called Dr. Capio and he got me in that afternoon. It was Friday and he stayed late just to fix my tooth! I was amazed at how good it looked! I cannot think of enough good things to say about Dr. Capio. He was diligent, professional, and caring through this traumatic experience. I learned he just moved into his new office near the corner of Westchester and Lincoln. It is an older building they are going to update soon, but the good news is there is parking. He and his team have taken great care of my teeth, fixed some weird old bonding I had from my old densits. Most recently, Dr. Capio restored a tooth of mine that had died decade ago to the same color as my other teeth, in a cool, incredibly quick and painless procedure, whitening my dead tooth from the inside out. I've been seeing Dr. Capio since 2015. Before him, I've always had a traumatic dentist experience growing up. Dr. Capio and his staff are always friendly to me every time I come in; from checking in, to the services provided, to checking out. If I come for dental work, he makes sure I'm pretty numb before he starts and ask if I want to watch something on Netflix while he does his work making me feel at ease. For the past 3 years, I've pretty much just done 3x a year cleaning with exams and his staff are pretty knowledgeable. During check out, Evelyn always takes the time to work with me when it comes to insurance and billing. I stayed with them when I changed my insurance making them "out-of-network" and also when they moved locations from Marina Del Rey to Westchester. I just don't see myself going anywhere else. Always quality work and kind, friendly attentive service, I've never had any issues with billing and their staff has always been very communicative going over the bill and what insurance should (hopefully) cover. Do not go to this dentist under any circumstance. My husband had a cleaning here a few months ago and received an unexpected bill in the mail for it after insurance paid their portion. We're used to being told upfront whether there will be any copays or extra charges. This is common at any doctor's office. This was not the case with Dr Capio's office. We have left four separate voicemails for the billing department but still have not gotten a call back. We finally got a hold of someone named Mickey at the front desk who was extremely rude on the phone and kept speaking over my husband. She basically said it's too bad the billing department hasn't called back and all we can do is to keep leaving voicemails. Not only were we taken aback by the random charge that should have been mentioned before work was done but the staff is extremely rude and unprofessional. Needless to say, we would not recommend this dentist or his staff to our friends or family. read more

I hate leaving bad reviews, but this was not a great dental experience. I moved to LA a bit ago, and have had trouble finding a good dentist on the West side. I ended up seeing the rave reviews this office had, so I figured I'd give them a try. It seems I visited right after they moved offices, however, and all of the photos I saw were from their old location (their new building is outdated in comparison). I went in for a cleaning, exam, and X-rays, and my cleaning was fine. Afterwards, I was placed in another room to wait for the doctor, and after 10-15 minutes the dentist came in and said that it was a busy day and I should come back for X-rays and the exam another day. I was ultimately rushed out and encouraged to schedule a follow-up, but I didn't because the front desk person was on the phone for 10 minutes when I went to check out. All in, not a great experience + I'm still on the hunt for a new dentist. read more

My family and I went to this office for years and loved it when it was Dr. Sherman and his staff. They were friendly, personable and provided excellent care. Since Dr. Sherman retired and Dr. Capio has taken over, it has gone completely down hill. His office staff is rude, they try to upsell you, they even told my son he would have to pay over $1200 out of pocket for a root canal (he has 2 dental insurances and once it was cleared up, come to find out, he didn't have to pay anything out-of-pocket). I was told what my out-of-pocket cost would be, I paid it, then after the fact, they tried to charge me more. They did unnecessary x-rays on my mom so they could get paid from the insurance co. I understand that dental offices need to be paid for their services and that it's a business but, they have completely removed the "care" out of dental care and are strictly about the money. They don't value loyal patients (customers) and it's strictly a non-personable money making business now. After 15+ years of going here, my family and I won't be going back and I will be filing a complaint with the Dental Board of CA. VERY UNETHICAL OFFICE. read more

So, when I moved to CA, I was nervous about finding a GOOD dentist. There are a lot of hacks in LA. I absolutely loved my dentist back home and have always taken great care of my teeth. Luckily, I found Dr. Capio. His office and staff are warm and inviting and the location is great. He has off street, free parking behind his office, and I've never had an issue with an appointment. Dr. Capio actually teaches at UCLA's Dental School, so that made me gravitate towards him. I've been 3 times since moving and they always have gentle hands. They have Netflix and headphones, to distract from the drill and you can watch whatever you want. My boyfriend actually had a chipped front tooth and Dr. Capio was able to fit him in the same day, give him a cleaning, and fix the tooth. He had no pain and his teeth look fantastic. After a weekend of excruciating pain, I was so thankful that Dr. Capio was able to see me on Monday. Turns out I needed a wisdom tooth removed. Dr. Capio did a great job! I didn't feel a thing. This review pertains to a highly satisfied patient who underwent teeth bonding at this practice. I've had two bonding procedures on my teeth and I must admit it's not the easiest of jobs. It's a craft that requires meticulous work and someone who is attentive to detail. After wearing corrective aligners and completing the treatment, my orthodontist suggested I pay Dr. Capio's office a visit for the last part of the correction process which was bonding. I was impressed by the customer service too! From the moment I walked through the front door to when I dealt with Dr. Capio himself, I felt at ease. His staff is pleasant which to me is VERY important since I'm high on client service and hospitality. When it came time to do the consultation with the doctor, I was able to relay my concerns, he gave me his opinion on how he thought we should approach the issue and I signed up to work with him. I was lucky to get a same-day appointment which is not always the case. I found Dr. Michael Capio on the AETNA insurance network. He's walking distance to me with good reviews on Yelp so I thought I would give him a try. He was better than great! After a basic cleaning and X-ray I booked my two cavity fillings because I felt in good hands with him and his team. Everyone was so welcoming and genuine - we've all been to dentists where they spend the whole time upselling services. I think he would be great with kids. He's also a bit of a magician because I didn't even feel when he put the needle in my cheek to numb my face. These were my first cavities and I didn't know what to expect, but both appointments were PAINLESS and quick. A thoughtful touch is each room has a TV with Netflix for the customer to choose what to watch. I was referred to Dr. Capio by a friend. It may not look like much from the outside, but once I walked inside, I felt welcomed. There's a lot of light and a cute outdoor patio area. Sit and avoid nature or soak in some sun while you breathe in that L.A. air as you wait. Indoors is usually the preference but hey, who doesn't like options? Since I've been, I've referred others. Whether I'm waiting for a friend or to be seen myself, I enjoy being there. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. They ask me if I need anything, from water to headphones! They have modern 40" TVs in the rooms too! Way to stay up to date Doc! I hate offices where you're stuck reading outdated magazines and listening to weird sounds chirping birds or what not. (Nobody really enjoys those FYI) I've been here a few times now and I keep telling myself I'll write a review, but you know how it goes. I get lazy or busy. He listened to my problem and checked it out. He told me that no filling was missing and that it might be that one of my teeth was making more contact than the other ones. He resolved the problem and stated it would take a few days or about week before the pain would go away. He was right. No more pain. He knows how to listen and figure problems out. When I first went to see Dr. Capio it had been about one year since my last dental visit. And it was also my first time seeing an adult dentist, as I had always seen a pediatric dentist before. I had my teeth cleaning, and then went in for my dental exam. We decided to hold off on the x-rays unless he saw a problem and thought they were needed. Turns out, I had three cavities, including one very serious one. He took the time to help me figure out the proper amount of time in between each filling so that I wouldn't be in too much pain. When it came to the actual fillings and and the crown, things couldn't have gone more smoothly. He is very kind and gentle, and understands how uncomfortable dental work can be for some people. He did everything he could to make sure I didn't feel any pain, and I didn't! I am very happy with the results and have recommended Dr. Capio to friends in the area. This is my first yelp review, but it's definitely a well deserved one. I was nervous about dentists in general, but this dentist has completely changed my outlook. I left the office pain free, relieved, and even looking forward to my next visit. I am new to Southern California, and didn't know where to find a good dentist. A friend referred me to Dr. Capio, and I couldn't be happier with the service. I was only in need of a cleaning and a basic routine check-up, but ended up coming home with clean teeth, and a new appreciation for dental health. Dr. Capio carefully explained each procedure and how preventative care affects my teeth on a daily basis. His explanations were very clear and he made sure that I understand all of the "what's and why's". No other dentist that I have ever been to, actually took the time to explain anything to me. They usually just focused on finishing the job (at the expense of my gums) and then on to the next. I got the usual "brush and floss, because it's important", but they never told me exactly why. Having a full understanding of what plaque really is, and how good health is maintained, is eye opening, and to me, an invaluable part of the service. Dr. Capio also uses the latest tools in dentistry. During the entire procedure he was wearing his custom made magnifying eye glasses, like a surgeon, and did the cleaning with an ultra-sonic-water-pick-thing-a-ma-jig. I DEFINITELY found my new dentist, and here's why: Because this doctor is awesome! I recently moved to the LA area and I had to find an honest dentist, like the one I had before I moved. Searching for a dentist is hell to me. I've had bad experiences with the doctors being rude, pushy, and dishonest in efforts to sell expensive products or services to me.They suggest outlandish procedures that I can't afford, and then try to get me to finance it with a credit plan, regardless if I needed the procedure or not! Needless to say, I wouldn't return back to the office. I've don't enough research to know how dentist try and get over on you. After visiting 4 different dental offices in LA, I googled another dentist in and came across Dr. Capio and decided to give this another try. When he came into the office, he introduced himself and then explained to me in detail how he works. I instantly knew he was different-definitely more down to earth and honest. I was interested in composite fillings to close a couple gaps while avoiding braces or veneers. He understood exactly where I was coming from (logically and financially), and then even let me "try on" the composite fillings so I can see how they would look if I got them, and make sure I liked them first. That alone blew me away. Most dentists don't have the time or patience for that and they would have discouraged bonding or simply said no only to begin forcing veneers on me. Very long story short, he spent 3 hours perfecting my teeth, didn't leave the office ONCE to simultaneously help other patients, made me feel totally comfortable, and the gaps are gone for a great price (I got a quote from a previous dentist a few days ago who was trying to charge me thousands of dollars for this procedure when I knew it should only be hundreds.) The whole visit was a pleasant experience, and he's great at what he does. You can tell he actually enjoys his job. Bottom line, I'll never go to another dentist as long as I'm in LA. Like many people, there is so much anxiety when having to go to the dentist. Thankfully, for Dr. Capio and his staff, I was put at ease. Dr. Capio and his staff were very professional and took their time. In addition, like most of us, we have very busy schedules. I had to change my appointment, and the staff was very accommodating. I specifically liked Dr. Capio's approach to preventive dentistry and the latest technology that he uses in his office. Lastly, and more importantly, he listened to me and "asked" me what my expectations were for my overall dental health. The office is clean and the dentist and staff wore gloves.
