I'm going to be completely honest here this place is either a hit or miss. Ive learned that timing is everything. If you want their best pizza, it's better to go between 11am-1pm (especially as soon as they open @11am). That's when the pizza is the freshest & hasn't had a chance to sit around. One thing I can always count on is their speedy service. Even when the line is long the staff keeps things moving. The bakers work hard making fresh pizza,cookies/some baked treats,& breads daily. The staff taking orders are just ok. I do wish they were a little more friendly. There's usually 2 different women who work the register(there's only 1)@ a time. Today I had 2 plain cheese slices & they were amazing. They were so fresh & piping hot str8 out the oven(so hot they were literally steaming). My tastebuds & tummy were both super happy. I love their sauce & cheese & they're not stingy w/ them either. I might have to grab a jar of their homemade sauce they sell next time (that's how much i love it). The pizza reminds me more of a NYC style slice b/c the crust is fairly thick & it's not thin like the usual CT. pizza. The slices had that classic foldable, satisfying bite. I came around 11am right around opening time so the pizza was fresh out the oven & not reheated which made a huge difference. The inside is pretty small but there are a few tables if you want to dine in. Decor wise, don't expect anything fancy(it's pretty basic & bare). But let's be honest, you come here for the pizza! Quick stop on my way out of town after a Yale baseball game, I popped in for a quick bite. It absolutely hit the spot! Two huge slices and a water for around $10, and boy, was it amazing! Haven't had a meal from this place in a while. This quaint Italian deli doesn't look like much on the surface, but the staff is friendly and the food is fantastic. Right when you walk in, you're hit with an amazing aroma that makes you want to take a nice deep breath. This place is the real deal. I got two pasta dishes. The linguine with broccoli, garlic and oil had a generous amount of fresh garlic and broccoli crowns. Good flavor and texture all around. The gnocchi with tomato sauce was even better; the gnocchi itself had a pillowy soft texture and their made-in-house tomato sauce is to die for. In fact, the sauce was so good that I brought some home. You can purchase fresh jars of their tomato sauce and marinara sauce right from the counter; both are delicious. Finally, the salads had fresh and crisp vegetables. This isn't your average deli. If you like Italian food even somewhat, you need to give this place a try. read more

Horrible service. I went in to Michelangelos the woman was folding boxes for pizzas. My 86 year old mother asked for a small salad, she was told they re in the cooler. All of the salads are large . I told the woman she only needs a small one and she said they are for dinners. Not asking if we were ordering other foods or trying to accommodate my elderly mother. After having a few hit, or miss experiences with the usual favorite pizza spots, we decided it was time to return and give Michaelangelo's a try. It was beyond divine. The crust was cooked to perfection. The super fresh seasoning, eggplant and garlic on the white pie literally melted in your mouth. It was definitely one of the most astounding pizzas I have ever had, and truly memorable! The restaurant was clean, service was wonderful and fortunately it wasn't too crowded. One of my Yelp friends, Marie, had reviewed MPAS not long ago, and she mentioned it's her "go-to" place for eggplant/garlic pizza, so I knew it was only a matter of time. Well that time was a few days ago, driving back to Windsor Locks from Yonkers. I called when I was about 30 mins away, hoping to order a few slices. While they sell slices for more common pies, they only sell pies for egglant/garlic. So a whole (small pie) it was. Located in a strip mall-type area w limited parking. On entering, my first impression was "Wow". Great looking bread, a small steam table, lots of other slices on display. Decided to try a slice at one of the 3 tables. One slice became two, which turned into three! I am a big fan. The amalgam of light sauce, with fresh garlic (enough to ward off any local vampires) and eggplant pieces on an excellent crust hit all the right notes. Alas, my palate does not have the octave range that Marie has. Also, I was close to being in a carb coma (having done pizza in Yonkers a few hours earlier). Interesting place, definitely recommend. I grew up on this pie with it being just down the road from my parents house. This was a weekend staple, it's slightly thicker and chewier vs. the traditional New Haven style apizza. Very disappointed with Michaelangelo's as I have been a regularly customer and a new customer that I sent there yesterday was treated kindly last night and very rudely by the owner this afternoon. Last night after traveling 30 mins back home, the new customer opened up her meal to discover that she was missing items on her sandwich. After calling back and speaking to someone and explaining that the items were missing, she said to come back and grab a new 1. Well establishment closes at 9pm and she would able to get there to have a sandwich remade. So she opted to pick it up after she got off from work the next day. She was assured that she can pick it up at 430pm. Whomever was on phones was very rude and state that they knew nothing about the order and that they didn't know who was working last night ( the "owner" could be heard saying to get the person off of their phone and that they just wanted a free meal and can have the missing items only). Instead of not assuming that a customer is trying to get free food, they, someone should have investigated they issue and not lie about it because they didn't give a shit about the customer. I doubt that they didn't know who was working the night before. I also doubt that when they mess up, that they treat everyone the same. With a nasty attitude and lack of patient give a fuck, we will not be patronizing this place again. Great pizza and subs but horrible owner and a horrible order taker. The order taker the night before was very pleasant and respectful. The kitchen fucked up and the owner and order taker didn't want to acknowledge it the next day. Shame on them. The dinners are solid, the stuffed breads sell out because of how stuffed and tasty they are, and their sfogliatelle is delicious. Always did takeout. Too small on the inside to bring a group. Right along Route 34, you find this place that is a great option for a low key Italian sandwich, stuffed bread, pizza, amongst some other options. A friend of mine, has been here several times previously and suggested that we eat here. There are a handful of small booths for eating here, while they also do a steady business of take-out. We both opted to order sandwiches, one was a veal parm, the other was an Italian combo. Both of them were very tasty, although a little smaller than I would have expected. Particularly since their prices are a bit high. But all in all, this is a very good spot to grab some food and maybe a cannoli too. read more

Consistently great pizza! We enjoy pizza on a weekly basis and try out all of the different local places around New Haven. Michaelangelo remains as one of our very favorite places for pizza. Other places will occasionally dip in quality depending on who is in the kitchen, but Michaelangelo is always good. Crust is very good, and the sauce reminds me of the old "Bimonte's" pizza place in Hamden. Taking a bite at Michelangelo was like a blast from the past in the best way possible! Garlic knots are a nice side if you really like garlic. Lots of other items that we haven't tried yet, but they look good. Foxon Park soda is a good match. One of the best pizzas in the area. It has withstood the test of time - been going there ever since I was in elementary school and the pizza has always tasted excellent. I've also had their made to order pasta dishes and it was pretty good for take out. However what makes this place great is their stuffed breads!!! I have been going to this establishment for years, but today I had a horrible and upsetting experience. I walked in to get a takeout slice of pizza. I have an 18 Mo old service dog in training who is protected by the ADA law and is allowed in restaurants, although we had no intention of sitting down just getting a slice and leaving. the woman behind the counter kept screaming at me to get the dog out and said that it was an open food establishment. I explained that the dog had public access rights and that that was the law. I offered to show the woman the CT statute. She basically refused to serve me and was screaming at me saying she knows the law, walking away and telling me to shut up I asked for the name of the owner so I could explain the situation to them so that they would be informed about ADA accommodations. She kept screaming that it was a private establishment and told me to get out. She was derisive and mocking and incredibly stupid but that's besides the point. another worker did help me get a slice of pizza. I called later to try to get the name of the owner and she said she was not allowed to give out that information I gave my number and asked that that person call me although I have a little doubt that they will As I'm sure I was talking to screaming banshee that had been yelling in the storeoffered to show the woman the CT statute. read more

I use to come here frequently and the food was always very good. Unfortunately, the last three times I have been here have been disappointing. Today's visit was the worst. There was only one other party here when I arrived and they had already been served. I ordered a meatball and sausage parm sub. When it came out 25 minutes and two requests to check on my order later, it consisted of one small meatball cut in half, a 4- inch piece of sausage cut in half, and one slice of mozzarella. Solid pizza and Italian takeout place on the West Haven/New Haven line. Most of my experience here is with pizza. They don't have a brick oven, so the pizza's not really "New Haven style" - the crust is of standard thickness, and doesn't get charred. But the pizza still tastes pretty good, and I order from here every couple of months when in the mood for a standard crust pizza. Have had a couple of their hot subs - the chicken parm is quite good, but both the eggplant parm and the meatball sub aren't that good, and I would not order either again. They're pretty efficient and even on a busy Friday night they usually have orders ready in around 25 minutes or less (sandwiches in only 10). The prices are unfortunately a bit high, especially for the pizza. A large with a couple of toppings will run $20+, which is a bit much for a neighborhood takeout joint.
