We went there for a family Sunday lunch. We were greeted by nice and smiling staff, promptly led to our table and quickly attended by the waitress. While waiting for our order I looked around and liked the interior, mostly color pictures of old Queens, I'd say from 1960's - 70's. Really nice. Ceiling would deserve some real change it is in stark contrast with nice walls, just white tiles, obviously they don't look up too often... Also, if you are cheating on your wife or husband, this is not place to go. Boxes are next to each other, everything and everybody is visible from everywhere. Two TV screens seem to be not useful, the placement of tables and boxes make it quite hard to follow what's on. Definitely don't go there to watch NFL match, but have a few drinks with your pals or to dine with your (small) family is just fine. Our meals were really delicious, my steak with two eggs was just right, my wife's panini was huge and tasty. Desert - strawberry ice cream -was very good, made of real milk you could feel it. The hubby and I went out looking for something warm and filling on this brisk fall day. We landed on Micheal's for its large variety of food. (side note: when a restaurant menu has more than a page they probably don't make anything well). The best part of the restaurant is their photo decor. Our table had a picture of 30th street in Astoria in 1909 and 2009. It was amazing to see the similarities and differences. I chose lunch and he chose breakfast. His waffle with three kinds of meat hit the spot and my chicken parm panini was warm and delicioius. The food did take over 20 minutes to get the table and I think there were only 4 tables filled in the place. They served us both orange juice because it comes with breakfast, but forgot my soup that come with lunch. All in all it hits the spot when you are hungry but not picky. read more

Came here for breakfast and it was pretty good. Got an omelet that was massive and it came with home fries and toast and it was yummy. My boyfriend got the Challah French toast and he said it was good too. Their homemade orange juice was really fresh and tasted great. Good Service, but worst food I've had in NYC.. I've eaten street vendor food that was better. I ordered the Mexican burger with the Disco Fries. The Disco fries are a poor excuse of a Canadian poutine (fries cheese and gravy) All the products they used were not fresh and/or very low quality. Not something you'd expect to spend $18+ per plate on. They used American cheese slices on the fries with powered brown gravy. The burger was of the cheap thin frozen pink slime variety and I must have gotten the tail end of the buns because I could taste that it was starting to go stale. Even the avocado was past its prime so bad that I had to remove it completely. read more

The only reason I'm giving Michael's this many stars is because the food is actually pretty good if you ever get your order. I went in with a group of 4 at 2 PM on Saturday and it was obviously quiet since it was an off time for the restaurant. We were seated immediately and given menu's, water, etc. After placing our orders we waited approximately 25 minutes until the first two dishes came out. I should note that we all ordered sandwiches so we were not expecting the wait time to be as long as it was along with the fact that only 2 dishes came out after that wait time. Since one of the sandwiches that did come out was a hot one I encouraged the other people in the party (my grandmother and mother) to start eating. My sister's sandwich came out five minutes after theirs and my order (a grilled chicken Cesar wrap) came out five minutes after hers. 10 minutes after the rest of my party's meals and 35 minutes after I ordered. The waitress was rude and obviously had made some mistake since she was yelling in the kitchen. Had the service been better or if we had been informed it would be a longer wait time we would've had no problem. Both those things didn't happen. I went here for Saturday brunch. Had soulvaki pita and chicken burger. I personally liked the chicken burger more than soulvaki. Food was little greasy. The greek salad dressing and tzakti sauce was very tasty. The burger did not come with any sides and had extra for fries. Service was very good and in time. A diner atmosphere. I agree I've always thought of Michaels as a diner, not a restaurant, but i think its one of the better diners in Astoria. Omellets are good, french fries, chicken fingers, chicken wings, all yummy and the wraps, sandwhiches are good too. The best chiicken soup whether its chicken orzo or chicken noodle, its always really tasty. I was surprised at how good the fettuccini alfredo was and the chicken parmessian portion is huge and tasty. and they use to have this coconut dessert and i don't like coconut but this dessert was amazing but they dont have it anymore, or never know what im talking about when i mention it. The service isn't consistent, sometimes it's really quick and on point and other times, they bring you the wrong food, but it happens, i understand. overall everything here is pretty good... read more

They charge way over the menu and rude while taking an order. I will never order from here again. Even called back to confirm prices and was never explained why. Charged 14.95 for chicken Ceasar Salad, and 13 dollars for a BBQ burger just adding bacon on it not the deluxe. The menu prices say.....that is a lie! I don't know what has happened with Michael's over the past couple of years but they've really been slacking. The service is not good, the staff is not very friendly or attentive. The food is blah. Several times my daughter has asked, very specifically, that her cheeseburger be well done NO RED AT ALL....and still the burgers come back under cooked. Something's very wrong here. There's a dark creepy energy throughout, the unmistakable vibe of miserable, angry cooks and abusive management. Just a gut feeling, but then our meals backed me up by being miserable, unloved and abused. The smell coming off the fish was enough to make me sick, and I watched as the smell offended diners at surrounding tables. The portions are big, but the quality is poor, and the feeling that the people who made the food are full of despair and hate is truly unappetizing. Hope they fix what's wrong. read more

Message to Michael's, please invest a little $$ into hiring a chef that will teach your cooks' how to actually cook and put a dish together. Michael's offers typical diner fare at a very reasonable price. You have to know that I was dying for a real gyro platter, and I was not dissapointed in the least. Crispy french fries, and deliscious gyro meat with plenty of feta and salad. Completely hit the spot. And the service? I have been eating brunch here for close to 7 years (never been here any other time). For $9.95 I get 2 bloody mary's, unlimited coffee, Irish Omlet, hash browns and a side o wheat toast. The omlets are huge and the hash comes crispy. Only problem I have had is them fogetting to put cheese on my omlet. Has happened a few times but i stil go back because of what you get. Great place to go the morning after a long night of drinking. I always compare other brunches to this place and have not been anywhere that comes close to the amount of food and drink you get. This is a reliable diner that I've been going to a lot more since Sanford's closed down for renovations (God, I miss Sanford's!). Standard diner fare - huge plates - decent food. Bad service. I really wanted to like this place. I've lived here many years and sometimes you just need a good diner. Problem: they would not seat me at a booth because I was alone. This only makes sense when you're busy. There was one empty booth and one older man eating by himself at another. Hostess said he was waiting for his wife. After waiting several minutes, two more booths open up and the man is enjoying by coffee, oatmeal and the paper ALONE. read more
