Squash, potato and cheese, tiramisu, carrot cake, passionfruit kouign amann, and strawberry
    Karen T.

I was brave and took my baby and toddler solo out to this bakery while in the area on a Friday morning. Not a holiday, so there was a little line but we didn't have to wait too long, thank goodness. They had a highchair for the baby and put up with me trying to feed both of them really nicely. Pastries were really delicious and flavors were overall tasty. My two year-old could not get enough of the carrot cake. I think my personal favorites were the passionfruit and the potato and cheese. Potato and cheese flavors are classic- everything else I felt like was almost bordering on the line of too crispy. Loved the inventive flavors but some sounded better than they tasted - Squash was closer to mid than a hit for me. Same with strawberry. I was pleasantly surprised by how good the tiramisu was considering we ate it later that day. Same with passionfruit kouign amann. The breakfast sandwich omelette was really good. Pastries were solid. I'll be back if I am in the area.

I've been to their popups in Miramar and their pastries were amazing. My wife and I came to their brick and mortar store. The line was kinda long with 15 people on a Sunday at 11AM and there was plenty of parking. The line went super fast though. We waited about 15-20 mins. There was plenty of seating inside with a steady flow of people going in and out. It was loud and music was playing so it was a very lively atmosphere. There were a healthy amount of pastries left and we ordered the potato tile, tiramisu danish, pan au chocolat, and crunchwrap. Everything was so good. The Crunchwrap tasted like taco seasoning, cheese, and Taco Bell hot sauce. I'd get it again. The sausage egg and cheese muffin were also a highlight. Worth every penny.

Raspberries and cream danish ($9)-- lovely sweet and creamy raspberry flavors
    Wendy T.

Stopped by for a few pastries in April and ended up with a box of 10 of them-- they were beautiful and delicious! The pastry case was very croissant-focused with almost half of them being savory options (interesting flavors like chicken tetrazzini or short rib). On the other side of the case, there are tea loaves and cookies as well :) The lamination on the croissants was incredible, pretty much ruined all other croissant-based treats for me. Extra delicate, flaky, and buttery! ** Tiramisu nest (5/5): a seasonal offering for Easter and my favorite bite of the visit! Not only was it extra cute with a kataifi nest and chocolate eggs on top, but there was a thick layer of perfectly salted caramel hiding beneath the mascarpone topping. It was extra sweet but balanced with the saltiness. The laminated pastry added to each bite. Really luxurious and so good! ** Lemon poppy loaf (4/5): super bright flavor of lemon shines here, and the glaze is nice and sweet. The cake part isn't too dense or dry but it wasn't the moistest I've had. Overall enjoyable! ** Raspberries & cream danish (5/5): I'm usually not a creamy fruit person, but the sweet pastry cream with the raspberries had just the right amount of tart versus sweetness. And the croissant layers were so crisp, delicate, and buttery. Actually reheated this one up later as well and it was just as good! ** Double pain chocolate (4.5/5): that lamination was lovely! The denser chocolate contrasted with the light crispness of the pastry. I'd prefer even more chocolate inside, but it's already hard to find a chocolate croissant like this :) ** Marzipan poppy sesame danish (3.5/5): the poppy is more for looks than anything else but the danish had a light, mellow almond flavor and slight grittiness from the almond flour. Softer and tastier warmed up. ** Cardamom bun (4/5): similar to the poppy danish but without the gritty filling. The cardamom flavor wasn't intense so it was more like a cinnamon roll flavor with a whiff of cardamom. Also on the harder side but softened up (and became more fragrant too!) warmed up. ** Blueberry bun (4/5): beautiful and similar to the cardamom bun but jazzed up with the fruity tang of blueberry. This one also softened up and was tastier warmed up at home! ** Strawberry kougin amann (4.5/5): luscious chocolate inside a kougin amman. The pastry wasn't super flaky because of the chocolate, but it was a yummy pairing! The strawberry was placed on top but didn't add much to the flavor. I'd still get it again! ** Strawberry tahini cookie (5/5): Mmm, this one was nutty and a bit tart and sweet with the strawberry. Although a bit crisp on the edges, the cookie had a nice chewiness :D Props for inventive flavors! ** Dark chocolate chip cookie (4.5/5): a good chocolate chip cookie with different sizes of chocolate inside! On the sweeter side, had a slight chew. Enjoyable and would order again but wouldn't say it made it to the top of my cookie list. ** Potato cheddar tile (3.5/5): was quite greasy with the chili crisp but was pretty one dimensional in flavor. Probably wouldn't get it again but we did finish it. The interior is spacious and modern with lots of table seating + outdoor seating too. Service was friendly and the restroom is clean. I loved the variety and color of the pastries in the display and it was fun to try them all! Would definitely recommend checking out :D

    JR Butter Lettuce Salad

It's called Relic bakery, but ironically my favorite thing was the SALAD! The butter lettuce salad quite possibly the best salad I've ever had. We spotted the chefs peeling the skin off tomatoes with a torch and ended up making friends with the executive chef (long blonde hair?) who explained what they were doing and the lengths they go to for their ingredients, what the salad was made with...he was so cool and nice! Cinnamon roll was bomb (less cloying sweet more subtle, milky frosting with gooey cinnamon) Flat white was a 10/10. I'd say my only meh item was the chocolate croissant, it was tasty but nothing show stopping. Every table setting is so beautifully designed and the interior is just stunning. Don't let the location deter you, this place is worth checking out. Went around 1pm and there was only a few people in line

Wow, what a treat! Relic Bakery was highly recommended to us and I'm so glad we went! It was busy, even on a weekday morning, and a line formed immediately after we arrived. We had their Passionfruit Kouign Amann, Strawberry Ricotta pastry, and their Soy glazed Short Rib pastry. Each pastry we selected was unique and fantastic. Talk about high quality pastries! The crunchiness could be heard from the next table. The Passionfruit Kouign Amann was perfectly tart and sweet, the Strawberry Ricotta pastry had a lovely creaminess to it, and the Short Rib pastry had a delectable savoriness that was a nice contrast to the other sweets. We also got a pandan matcha which was delicious as well. I loved that it wasn't too sweet. We brought our baby in a stroller and found plenty of space out on their patio. We'd highly recommend Relic Bakery!

A unique bakery with lots of creative options for baked goods, snacks, lunch, dinner, takeout, and dine in options. I had a pastry with lamb and it was super flavorful and savory and was good even with reheating in the microwave. I also tried the porchetta which was also very flavorful, soft and juicy with the perfect amount of fat. What is also cool is the variety of porchettas in rotation depending on the day. The one I tried was a Vietnamese style inspired flavors and they nailed it! Prices can be on the more expensive side, but it is worth the try especially with the creativity and variety of different baked and cooked goods here.

Aesthetically pretty and deliciously creative, Relic Bakery is a spot you need to stop by at least once if you are around the area. I came here on a Friday afternoon around 12 p.m. with a group of friends to try out their baked goods. I heard a lot about their Crunchwrap Supreme-inspired croissant; however, they did not have it in their rotation at the time. That being said, they had a lot of other unique choices, and we got a little bit of everything to try between the 8+ of us. Standouts: * KFC-inspired Famous Chicken Bowl Croissant: This was surprising in how close it was to the original menu item. I did enjoy how, even though the center had gravy, it was thick enough to still be creamy without being too runny. The crispy chicken worked really well, and I loved the pieces of corn. * Blackberry Olive Oil Cake: Moist on the inside, with a nice brightness from the blackberry glaze. * Summer Squash Croissant: A delicious light option, balancing the flakiness of the croissant with the burst of zucchini. I did wish it had a bit more textural components in there, but that being said, it was a fan favorite at the table. *Short Rib Sandwich: While the sandwich itself was delicious with pull-apart meat, if you are not a fan of horseradish, this may not be for you. Overall, a cute spot. They have plenty of seating with good service!

Blown away by the variety of unique pastries ranging from savory to sweet. My friend and I picked a few to share and wow were they all equally scrumptious. My favorite was the summer squash tart that was so well seasoned, almost like a pizza. The tahini strawberry cookie is a work of art - an elevated pb&j. Banana miso cookie reminded me of a warm slice of banana bread. Lemon blackberry olive oil cake was moist and well balanced. Our server was patient with us as we had trouble deciding between just a few versus ordering the entire case. It was quite busy for a Friday morning but thankfully the line moved quickly!

100% worth the line. This place is divine. Honestly, I think this is my favorite bakery in San Diego. Everything we had was delicious and everything looked amazing. My favorite was the croissant mashed potato thing. Blackberry olive oil cake was also amazing. Brought me back to my childhood going to KFC. I cannot wait to come back and try the cinnamon roll and honey cake. The staff were extremely kind and they had a dog-friendly patio. Don't hesitate to come here! Just be prepared for a line if it's a weekend.

chocolate croissant, earl grey pumpkin cake, kouign amann, everything cream cheese croissant
    Sharon H.

Earl grey pumpkin bread (top left) - extremely moist, not too sweet, good pumpkin flavor, very light earl flavor in the cream and tasted more like honey Kouign Amann - not too sweet, the herbs overpower the caramalized sugar, soft doughy texture inside Everything croissant - very salty! good layers of cream cheese inside Chocolate croissant - not a lot of chocolate. the chocolate to bread ratio was off. it was a bit disappointing that the chocolate wasn't melted and was more thick paste-like consistency Service is amazing. Everyone is super nice and patient. The ambiance is very cute for dates and families!

Tiramisu Nest Croissant, Sourdough Hot Cross Bun
    Haylee M.

I've been following their IG for months and was so happy husband brought me here to start off my birthday celebration! Top fav item - Tiramisu Croissant! 12/10 Crispy and flaky pastry with the vanilla bean mascarpone filling and espresso-soaked nilla wafers And the cocoa niba and dusting of cocoa powder! There was also a mini Easter egg nest on top since we went on Easter. What a phenomenal combination! 3 of us shared this one and it was all our favorite. And we could all have gone for more! Chicken Tetrazzini Chef's (chef's special) 11/10 My favorite among the savory croissants! It had leeks & chicken in fondue sauce + roasted red pepper hot sauce on top. It was actually the perfect balance of crispy and the right amount of spicy sauce and I think this this croissant set such a high bar that everything else in the savory menu felt to plain haha. Soy Glazed Short Rib 10/10 Wow!! Definitely was surprised by that whole chunk of short rib right in the middle of the croissant. Was actually cooked perfectly well and had a really lovely flavor! The herby topping was also really delicious and everything went well together. Summer Squash (spring special) 6/10 (summer squash, olive oil, salt, pepper, taleggio cheese sauce, and dill green garlic chimichumi) Honestly was not as much a fan of this one. I think the squash and fillings overall were a little too soggy for my liking. Nice flavors though. Sister in law liked it. English muffin sandwich with turkey 8/10 Swapped out the sausage in the sandwich for turkey to get some lean protein. I think the sausage would have added a lot more depth of flavor because the turkey made it a little plain but it would be lovely with a little bit of hot sauce. Big highlight though was the natural English muffin! So soft! Sourdough hot cross bun 8/10 Lovely flavor here! It had that spiced flavor and the dried fruit inside which was yum. Knocked off points because it was just fine. No wow factor to get it again. Crunch Wrap Supreme Croissant Very creative one! Had a flavorful beef filling and gave all the vibes you expect, but personally not my favorite. Caesar Salad 3/10 Honestly something was a little off here. Not sure if it was the actual lettuce leaves. Most of the bites felt quite bitter.. the grated Parmesan and black garlic dusting on top was lovely though. We had asked for the dressing on the side and dressing itself was quite tasty. So overall probably just the lettuce leaves themselves which were bitter.

9am Friday, there was a line inside They take your Pastry order first and then anything else you order at the register The seating is inside and outside- i was pretty comfortable while waiting for my sandwich There is street parking and you pay at the meter. The spots are pretty valuable. I saw cars circling constantly looking for a spot. Everything was overall delicious. These are my critiques: The fried chicken one was just a bit salty for the mash potato that sat under the chicken but is otherwise fun to try once. The taco bowl one was also a bit salty for the ground meat used. The strawberry ome was great. I wish the cinnamon roll frosting was thicker, sweeter, and more cream cheese flavor. Great spot for a breakfast brunch. I would totally come back.

    Lots to choose from

Never...never...ever...I mean...ever...go to a bakery when you're hungry! Cako and I just finished our walk and I thought since I was on spring break, I'd give myself a treat. Typed in "bakery near me" and Relic popped up. I had never heard of them, so why not? They were really busy! I mean, almost every table inside was full. So not only a bakery but other foods as well. Heard a friendly hello and I'll be right there. Lots to choose from! And some of the choices are unique. When the young man finally came to help me, I had decided.. I'll take a plain croissant, double pain au chocolat, cardamom bun, lemon poppyseed loaf, earl grey pumpkin loaf, banana miso cookie, dark chocolate chip cookie. The croissant was buttery and crispy, so good! Loved the poppyseed loaf. The cardamom bun was delicious. I only tasted pumpkin and maybe a hint of earl grey, so not my favorite. The banana miso was interesting. The double pain was really good! Kind of cakey in the middle. And the dark chocolate cookie was amaaaaaazing! Really loved what I picked! Definitely worth coming to and I can't wait to try breakfast or lunch. Really nice atmosphere and the staff is really friendly. They have outside seating that's dog friendly...although, Cako did not approve because she had to wait in the car. LOL! Street parking only.

Lots of chocolate and I think they added toffee in it too. The middle section had pistachio frangipane (or it looked like it) with coarsely chopped pistachios that brought another layer of crunch! Then to top it all off, it had pistachio cream on top of the cookie! I only wish I got another one. CAPPUCCINO It was okay. But love the foam! It was frothy and foamy! PAVLOVA The meringue was a bit too hard and too sweet and the pastry cream was overwhipped. Loved the fresh fig and blueberries though. I was looking forward to eating pavlova and this was very disappointing! KOUIGN AMANN Very buttery and sticky! Crispy on the outside. Every bite was not dry, but chewy. There was this sticky and chewy texture that wasn't unpleasant, yet it wasn't fully flaky like a croissant. But glad it was not dry! The kouign amann was not as tall like others I've tried, but I preferred it this way because it was not dry. The last kouign amann I had from Bread Lounge was dryyyy. But bought mine at a coffee shop too. PAIN AU CHOCOLAT Crispy on the outside, but I must have toasted a bit more, so the outside was a bit more toasted than desired. Inside was good. Good dark chocolate. BUTTER CROISSANT Really buttery, flaky, crispy! Ate it next day, so reheated it in the toaster oven to bring a more crispness all around. Really enjoyed this! Adding butter and jam is so good! LEMON MERINGUE Meringue had a strong eggy smell and flavor, the lemon was tangy, but not enough to rid of the eggy smell and flavor. The tart was hard and almost stale. I took a few bites and threw the rest out. PAIN SUISSE Chocolate flavor. Crispy on the outside, fluffy like a light spongy cake inside. Enjoyed this! CUSTOMER SERVICE Got there early afternoon. There was only one person in front of me. Good service overall. Quick service. Hits and misses of the various pastries I've tried. It will not deter me from trying their pastries though, as the really good ones were really good! Would love to return! Especially for that Choco Chip Pistachio Cookie! LOCATED INSIDE ANOTHER STORE Located inside a store called Floral Palette, which is a floral shop and specialty gift store. Beautiful store! The sign is big, so you cannot miss it!

This is such a cute shop with inside and outside seating. There is a small amount of seating near the windows but more outside around the back. Went on the holiday weekend and it took about 40 minutes to get through the line (started outside on sidewalk) to get my drink and cake slice. My favorite thing here is the lotus biscoff cheesecake $12. Their biscoff matcha is just okay. Note, they charge $7 for their matcha and then charge additional for biscoff, milk preference and foam. The orange blossom latte is good but very sweet. Their drinks run on the sweet side. Be sure to ask for half sweet if needed. I saw so many people ask for their drinks to be remade because it was too sweet and it really impacted the workers. I have tried some other desserts but just wasn't a fan. Will stick to the biscoff cheesecake.

Before driving over, I even called the store to make sure they had it. To my surprise, someone actually answered, confirmed they had one slice left, and even offered to hold it for me. My mood instantly changed. After the day I'd had, I was genuinely excited and headed there immediately. I arrived less than 10 minutes later, only to be told they didn't have it after all. To make matters worse, they claimed they don't even hold desserts for customers. It wasn't just disappointing--it was incredibly frustrating. If they couldn't hold it, I would have understood. But giving me false hope and having me rush over for nothing completely ruined the experience. What was supposed to be a small bright spot in my day turned into an even bigger disappointment. Unfortunately, this experience has left such a bad impression that I won't be returning. There are plenty of other bakeries in the area, and I'll be looking forward to trying those instead.
