Went back the other day and was shocked and grossed out that the person working the fries/onion ring fryer was using his BARE HANDS to grab and bag the fries/rings. Disgusting and unsanitary. Mickey's Gyros is a fast food is really good! Here is why this place is so good. They makes a beautiful meaty filled gyros and it satisfied my craving for a good gyros topped with delicious tzatziki sauce. They fit a family friendly atmosphere and they offer a water station option so you don't have to purchase soda. This place is basically a fast food dine in or take out joint. They have your American fare as well Greek Mediterranean cuisine. I can tell the locals like to get their Mickey's on because everybody is quietly eating their food. That is always a good sign the restaurant is making their customers happy. We ordered three gyro sandwiches, one chili dog and one kid's meal of nuggets and fries. We liked all the food and their fries are tasty and crispy. I would love to get an order of my own fries next time! I would totally come back here for another lunch with the family because it's a restaurant that fits our $30 budget for a family of 5. You can eat here and get full and not over spend. I go to this place once a week, and the food and service are generally very good. Yesterday I went again and this particular cashier always has a weird attitude with me. Whenever my order is short, it's when this person takes my order. I'm not sure what her problem with me is, but I try to ignore it. Yesterday my bag of food had the cheese sauce spilled all over everything. I didn't have time to go back since it was my dinner break from work. I was very happy to see a familiar place from my south-suburban upbringing move into the defunct Arby's on Route 53. The frontage in that area was starting to look like a ghost town. Mickey's has several other locations dotting the southland. I've been here twice, both dine-in experiences. They do have a drive-through option, but since the food is made to order, I'm not sure how the drive through is actually very convienet. The interior is clean, semi-comfortable, with seating for about 35 people. Two big screens are in the corners, usually tuned into some sort of sports. Service here is great. You walk in and order at the counter; the menu is rather extensive for such a small place (Gyros, BBQ, hot dogs, burgers, beef sandwiches, ect....), but you never feel rushed to make a decision. After you place your order, you get a number, seat yourself, and they bring the food out to you. What I aprreciate the most, is that the cashier will come up with the best possible way to ring up your order. Perhaps you were unaware of combos; they will ring you up for them automatically, instead of all ala carte like ordered. I like the honesty. My first meal here consisted of the fried chicken dinner. I know they come in sizes, and I'm not sure which one I ordered. I do know there was a lot of food. Large pieces of chicken, cole slaw, crinkle cut fries, and some BBQ sauce on the side. The chicken was OK; better than the Jewel deli, but not quite good as Brown's. The BBQ sauce was good, very tangy. Second time, I had the gyros plate. I'm sure the gyros sandwich would have been more than enough. The plate is just massive amounts of food. It comes with 2 pitas, a pile sliced onions and chopped tomatoes, lots of cucumber sauce, and some feta cheese. Crinkle cut fries, and a mound of gyro meat that rivals Mt. Olympus. (Well, maybe not that much, but you get my point.) The meat is good, very tender, flavorful and fresh. I liken this place to a alternative to Portillos. They have a similar meu, but yet Mickey's is way more affordable, without that machine-like atmosphere. I know I will find my way back here again, since I live down the road. Sits in front of the Walmart on Rt 53. Typical Greek fast food place. Gyros were very flavorful and the sauce was great. The pita bread was soft and grilled crisp. Fries were crinkle cut and served hot. The drive thru menu is chaotic with way too much listed and different fonts and colors. The drive thru speaker was loud and blew us away. Finally someone took over the old Arby's. I am assuming Mickey's has only been open less than a month. The staff was friendly and the cashier knew her menu very well. So that being said I placed an order for a Poorboy sandwich, soup of the day and a large Dr Pepper. I love how Mickey's has food runners that bring everything to your table. I would have loved to have my delicious cream of chicken with rice soup prior to my sandwich. Perhaps that was something I should have mentioned beforehand to the cashier. No big deal. Dining area has plenty of clean tables and great for family's of 5 or so. I was surprise to see that the building did not have a Mickey's Gyros neon sign on the front. During rush hour traffic stopped on route 53 would probably prove affective and in their favor. I do plan on a second visit for their BBQ side of the menu, for now 3 stars is what was earned. I do suggest this place to meat and cheese lovers whom enjoy Chicago style sandwiches. Oh and before I forget I notice 3 gyros cone spinning in the background, most likely 30 or 40 lbs each. Today 1-18-2020 at around 3pm My better half and I decided to have lunch at Mickeys As the food is pretty good and close to our house We pulled into the parking lot and parked when I got out of the our truck I slipped on ice and fell flat on my back I'm older (56) not old however I hit the ground pretty hard and it took a minute for me to get up My partner came around the truck and helped me to my feet I didn't break anything thank gawd definitely sore and my hip and neck hurt We went inside, I walked up to the young man ... I use that term loosely as you will find out why , behind the counter and informed him that I just fell on my back due to the lot being icy and that he should get someone out there with some salt before someone gets seriously hurt This punk looked at me as if I had clown make up on and said ..... what can I get you ? I said that's your response to me after just falling in your parking lot ? I have a deep voice and spoke up as so the other employees could here me This punk kid then said "what do you want me to do ?" I said I would like you to get one of your employees and spread a bag of ice around your lot so no one gets hurt, not everyone is like me, I could call an ambulance and Sue this place At that time the owner or manager walks up to the punk kid and they start speaking over me in there native language which I'm assuming is Greek At no point did the punk kid or the owner/ manager ask if I was okay. NOT ONCE!!!!! Nor did any of the other employees standing around that heard our conversation Not once did the owner or manager ask me if I was okay! I did not cause a scene when I walked in and told the punk kid thAt I just fell. I tried to place an order for a grecian salad and pizza puff with fries. When I was told the salad has olives (that come with pitts) in it, I asked for a salad without the olives. She told me I can't have my salad made that way. When I asked why not, she hung up on me. Horrible customer service and to be honest the only reason I wouldn't be able to have the salad made without olives is if its premade which I don't want to eat old stale premade salads anyways. I love Mickey's and always have, but my most recent experience wasn't too good. The drive thru lady never took my order so I just drove up to the window to find a very annoyed lady. She asked me what I wanted with irritation and then as I gave her my order and she yelled at me to slow down. I apologized several times, but she continued to be angry. This place is a solid neighborhood gyros and burger joint. Their gyros are the best in the area and they really load up the meat for you. The "big mickey" 1/3 pound burger makes this place my new go-to burger joint (sorry portillos and patio). I'm not a big fan of fried chicken but their chicken tenders are good! If you want something on the lighter side, try their Greek chicken salad - this one is tasty and will fill you up because it has a good portion of grilled chicken on it. The broiled tilapia is rrrrreally delicious. It was crispy with great flavor. The salad was fresh n crispy too. I tried the chicken gyro without bread. It was really good. Ive had one that was slightly better, bit this one is solid. Hard to judge without the pita too. The meat dipped in honey mustard was excellent. Their honey mustard is so delicious. I had really high hopes for this place based off the reviews. Wasnt that great honestly. I went here hoping to find a new gyro joint for the winter. Doggie Diner is SO COLD during the winter, it sucks to dine in there. First off, got a gyro, fry, and soda. $10.11, wow. Over priced right off the bat. Asked for sauce on the side, came out with none. Request was filled when I went back to the counter. You also have to ask for a fork, which should be included with any gyro. The sandwich itself was put together well. There was a TON of meat, but it was very bland. I didnt even know gyro meat could be this bland. The fries were equally bland. In contrast, Doggie Diner slices the meat, and throws it on the grill for a bit to crisp it up. This is the way I like it. Not mushy, almost cold meat. Doggie Diner also has garlic salt on their fries which takes their shoe strings to another level. I really wanted to like this place. I may give it another try for something other than gyro, but the word "gyro" is in your name, your gyro should be top notch. read more

I grew up on Mickey's in Tinley Park, and was happy to find one closer to where I live. This location is far bigger than the one I was used to, which was nice in terms of having ample seating. When we got there, I ordered my go-to menu item, a gyros plate, which includes 2 pitas, fries, onions, tomatoes, and more gyro meat than you really should eat in one sitting. I was not disappointed in the least, it was like old times! I think the only thing that I would like to see changed is the addition of free refills on fountain drinks - I didn't ask if they allowed it, but it definitely didn't seem like it was something they offered. The Mickey's staff was very friendly, as I always remembered it. The manager (owner?) came by the table next to ours and was talking with some regulars, after which he stopped to check in on us - his name was Nick, if I recall correctly. Anyhow, Nick noticed that my 3-year old son was done with his dinner and asked him if he'd like a balloon. After that, he asked us if it was ok for him to have some ice cream too. My son was thrilled at the prospect, and Nick hooked him up nicely. I certainly don't expect freebies when we go out to eat, but it was certainly a nice gesture by the staff. However, Mickey's is old fashioned in the way they operate and treat their customers. If I have no idea what I am in the mood for, Mickeys is the place. I've been going here for a year. I commonly get cheeseburgers, wraps, gyros, chicken sandwiches, and gyros from this joint. The gyro wrap is my favorite. The service is fast, the staff is friendly, the food is a fantastic value, and they always have a current newspaper for me to read.
