This is a long overdue review.I have been coming here since I moved to Southern California in 2006 and even though I moved from Torrance to Whittier I still use them as I have not found another shop (yes, even a closer Midas shop) that I can trust as much as I trust these guys. Paul and the manager Kathy sure know their stuff about cars and they never recommend that you take care of something that doesn't need to be taken care of. They've always been up front with me and they're the main reason my car is still rolling after all these miles I have on it (I keep current on the maintenance they recommend). Usually, I like doing my own repairs on my cars but lately I just been so lazy. Dealerships charge a huge amount of money just to inspect my vehicle, while providing horrible service. Here at this Carson Midas is a different story. I've had from minor to major services here. All while receiving some of the best customer service. Stay away from this place, I went in to have a new cat welded onto the exhaust pipe because the rear cat and exhaust is one piece, so to change it out you have to cut out the old cat and weld the new one in. So I go in and ask if they can take care of this for me, the guy, I forgot what his name was but i wish I knew it because he is one of the big reasons why you should stay away from this place. Anyways, after about 20 minutes of questioning me as to why I want the cat changed out and the vehicle doesn't ave many miles it shouldn't need one and how he doesn't understand how it can need a new one, he says that his guys can weld it together and it is about an hours worth of labor, he charged me like 80 bucks and I left. he calls me four hours later saying it is done and i can come pick it up, I get it back to the car and install it, and it is of by a whole inch, I call him take it back to them and let them know its off, and showed them how to make it line up, he says okay it will be another hour, by this time it was already late so i told him I would pick it up in the morning. I pick it up the next day install it on the vehicle again and it does not line up again, at this point I'm frustrated with them, I take it back and let them know that it is still off, I was like you know what, cut it into two pieces, I will take it back to the car, bolt it up, mark lines on it and bring it back so this time you can't F it up. Do that bring it back, sit there and wait for it to be done, the mechanic is sitting there welding it together while he is talking on the phone and i am like WTF! no wonder why they cant get it right. Then I am putting it into the car to take it back and install it and the douche bag guy from the counter comes out and says, hopefully you got it right this time. I wanted to punch him in the face, but i was able to hold my ghetto side in and just leave! haha. But everything worked out that time, but I will never go back to this place again! Would give them half a star if I could! P.S just in case you guys were wondering why I didn't just bring the car in and have them do it, it is a C.N.G compressed Natural Gas vehicle and they were scared they were gonna blow themselves up, and after watching the mechanic work, I'm kind of glad they refused to do it on the vehicle, they probably would have taken out that whole little plaza if they screwed up. read more

Finding a mechanic shop you can trust is a huge deal! I brought my Honda in because it was making a squeaky noise, and John the Manager had his mechanic do a full inspection and provided me an itemized list of items that would improve my vehicle performance, as well as the job that needed to get done. I really appreciated John's honesty in letting me know what needed to get repaired, and what he recommended for improved maintenance and performance. He let me make the decision on those without any pressure and gave me all the information I needed to know to make the best informed decision. Beyond providing exceptional service, John even went above and beyond to contact Midas headquarters to find my lifetime warranty for my previous brake pad replacement when I lived out of state. I was very impressed with his dedication to making the customer his number one priority! An added bonus is his nice lobby waiting area which has a tv and a clean bathroom and FREE WIFI! And he has the air conditioner on full blast to make it nice and cool while you wait. He even offered me a nice cold drink while I waited! I was surprised to read some of the lower rated reviews but realized most of them are from a long time ago before John took over the shop. Oscar was semi cool on my last visit. But he is rude when he sees or hears anything about a coupon. You don't have to let everyone know you're broke my guy. I came in today with my own oil and he said he wouldn't use it. Fine. It was FULL SYNTHETIC and sitting in his face. As he told me when I handed him my coupon" your car doesn't qualify for the 17.76 oil change." Flippant like I'm broke.. Do I look dumber than the white man you serviced with a smile prior to me? The coupon said 49.99 for full synthetic. I advised him I'm well aware of the kind of oil change I need and left. I don't need anyone talking down to me whether it's cause I'm a woman or black/afro Latina or simply because they have ANY type of bias. Franchised businesses should go out of their way to give good customer service. Not some pop eyed jerk with a poor man's complex. Do better. Amazing customer service, excellent price, and great car service. I have had my brakes and rotors replaced here, my oil changes, and they even helped me with brake master cylinder issues, fuel tank issues, and a few check engine light type issues. You'll be able to tell the type of customer service by just simply calling in and hearing the way John greets you over the phone. EVERY TIME! That's dedication. Even when my car's dealership wanted to hustle me on "Factory only" fixes, John helped back me up to fight their sly schemes. It didn't benefit him even a penny financially, but he definitely won my trust. I used to work at a hot rod and motorcycle shop and I have had many mechanic acquaintances and I have to be honest that most are swindlers and out to get your money. But John is different and he's a real help. Furthermore I've tried to find the same type of service at other Midas and never have I ever experienced such good service. And surprisingly Midas are franchises so even John's price here in Carson was the best and fairest price I've seen thus far. Helped me do a dealership service that would've cost $1600 down to only $800. That's half the price. Thanks John! read more

Kathy said get the this expensive oil, so my oil change was 52 dollars then could not give me brakes because her master mechanic was not in she trying to call him but he's sick. Then basically threatened me saying i cant drive my car leave it in het parking lot or get a tow. Worst service ever. read more

This is a little long but it'll be worth it to read it all. I'm not a mechanic. Never was. Never wanted to be. I know where the gas goes and where to add the oil. And sometimes I might get those mixed up. I'm the guy that walks into an auto repair place already knowing that I'm gonna hear a bunch of stuff that I totally don't understand but that seems to make some kind of sense. And then I worry if I'll even be able to afford to do the work that month. Lately I've been having a serious over-heating problem with my car. I had 4 'experts' check it out and have replaced everything from the radiator to the water pump to the thermostat, etc.etc.....And I still had the problem and the 'experts' all told me it had to be an unrelated problem. I felt hopeless and my behind was pretty sore too. Today though was my lucky day and all just by chance. My check engine light started coming on this morning and I wanted to blow up the car. But instead I looked on-line and discovered that this MIDAS said it'll read the codes and explain them to you! WOW! PEP BOYS told me they would give me the codes but charge me $89.00 to explain what they meant. Shame on you PEP BOYS. Long story short...I talked to Kathy, the GM at that MIDAS. She said bring it in. People, I gotta tell ya they explained the codes plus did a whole lot more.I told Kathy the problem I've been having and those guys made it their BUSINESS to help. They put my car up on a rack, filled it with coolant, observed it for 20 minutes or so, and not only was I relieved to know the codes were just minor things, but she also told me they solved my over-heating problem as well. This place was pretty busy. It was a Saturday... so Kathy did most of the work herself,,,,HERSELF!! a very pleasant and competent mechanic named Gabriel helped her out when he could. Here's the deal..It wasn't heavy work or even greasy work..But hell I didn't even have an appointment and these people were busy!! But they took the time and the caring and the concern for my problem and they made me feel like I had been their customer for years. Last thing....Now listen up all you experts...it turned out to be - now get this- a bad radiator cap and a cracked radiator reservoir plastic bottle. That's it! And Kathy wanted to charge me for just the price of the cap because I had been there so long. She said 10 bucks and I so thankfully gave her a 20 and wished I could have given her a lot more. Bottom line...this place is HONEST, CARING, FRIENDLY And the world would be a lot better place if all repair shops operated like Kathy's MIDAS SHOP. I went here to get my brake pads replaced, per this Midas location's recommendation. A month afterwards, I took my car into my dealership's service department because there was a rotational clunk sound. They diagnosed it just to find out that Midas hadn't properly reattached my wheel after replacing the brake pads... it was so loose that the technician could loosen the caps on my wheel with his bare hands. My wheel could have fallen off while driving... Thanks Midas Carson! read more

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE !! I came in to fix my O2 sensor which was $300. Before they did anything i want them to diagnosed to make sure if it was my O2 sensor that needed to be replace so my check engine light will go off. So " supposedly " this guy name Paul did & he said it was my O2. So we signed the contract & there goes my car. Waited 4 hrs for them to be replaced. Came back & notice my Check engine light was still on. Paul suggest i drive around for 30mins & come back if it was still lighting up. Which i did & i came back in , they were closed. So the following Monday i came in & spoke with Cathy, who said she was the manager of Midas. I told her my check engine was still showing, she told me " Oh when you left we run your code again & there was another code that was showing up, it wasn't your O2 that need to be fix ". I was mad. So i told her " So basically your telling me, i spend $300 for nothing, & you guys didn't fix anything for me " & she told me to go to Carson Honda & have them fix it. That is a horrible customer service, since then my check engine will still showing. But the thing was that When i went in & spoke with Paul, Cathy was no where near to know what was going on when my car was being fix. That Monday, she was rambling about how Paul is her assistant and she run the whole business. I now know why they don't get much customers like other auto repair shop. This is a horrible place to go to. The parts aren't legit & aren't worth the money. The customer service was horrible. Cathy was so rude to me. I suggest you research this place before you come here, because i know I'm not the only one who Midas screwed over. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY COMMING HERE. A year ago on 03/31/2010, I had my jeep towed to your Carson, CA location because my jeep would NOT start.(Alternator problem according the Triple AAA Battery Roadside Service prior to getting Tow Service). Since it was end of business day, they said they could not look into it til next business day. So they ask me to tell the Tow Truck driver to park the car in one of the parking spaces "outside" facing out, so when they are ready, they can move it into their garage. As I did not authorize them to move the car into the garage the day I had it towed, they somehow moved it into their garage where it caught fire in the middle of the night. As I received a phone call from Cathy the next business day, she tells me my jeep caught fire & according to what the Fire Investigator told her, it was due to a faulty electrical wiring in the passenger seat? So, as your insurance has already covered all your damages, you have the audacity to still claim it from "my insurance" to replenish the funds in your insurance! What greedy bastards you are!My jeep catching on fire is NO FAULT of my own! For all I know "someone" is covering up something! The truth will come out! If I will bring this to court, I have 3 or more mechanics that can testify how a vehicle can catch on fire. And not by just sitting pretty in someone's garage! I did NOTHING wrong to my vehicle to make it catch fire! I guess you need someone to share the blame with you! You know it was hard NOT owning a 2nd car for almost a year! And I didn't have to cheat in anyway to get a 2nd car!! Please be advised when bringing your car here for service! If they're not going to work on it til the next day, make sure you keep your car parked outside their parking spaces & locked, otherwise, YOU WILL SHARE THE BLAME with them if something damaging happens(i.e. car catching fire) even though it was NOT your fault! read more

Review based on a brake change. I had stopped by the honda service center and asked about a quote/appt for a brake change and was quoted about 250. (The guy seemed pretty disinterested and minimally interested in helping except for doing the bare minimum). I had a small discount, but decided to check with the local midas' and first called the harbor city one. He was pretty helpful but it was later in the day by that point. I looked up online at midas for some possible coupons/promotions and noticed a different one for the carson location and called the next morning. Both had a similar 10 off 100/20 off 200/30 off 300. Kathy (I believe) was very polite and friendly and said the shop specific promo I saw would take it down another 50 or so to about 120 for front pad replacement(not including resurfacing I believe). I stopped by and everyone was pretty helpful and friendly. No one snapped at me for taking a peek at the car with all the wheels off and they explained how thin the pad was, showed me the other parts etc... the resurfacing, clearning, realigning back tire shoe/pad totalled about 250 which seemed reasonable enough to get all that taken care of. Driving out of there, the squealing/grinding was the breaks were gone and thus far- things look good and fixed. Just wanted to add a review to bump up the rating since I think I had a pretty fair and solid experience with them. Kathy didnt make me print out the online coupons, so if you can show from your phone or mention, they'll likely be able to just scan the coupons that they have going on at the time. (save some trees/ink and your time) fyi- they did 'charge' ~25 or so for the inspection fee but since I was 99.9% sure I needed at least the pads replaced.. didnt care. They waive it if they do any work/replacement. Not sure if it would have been covered by one of the free brake inspection coupons...but a moot point read more

After multiple visits and complaints, and their inability to satisfactorily repair my brakes, I ended up taking my car to the dealer. I was at one time a happy customer, but unfortunately now am very dissatisfied. I expended an enormous amount of time and money making multiple trips back to this facility, but they still didn't fix the brakes and wouldn't own up to their poor workmanship and cheap parts. The dealer checked the brakes and within minutes found hardware rubbing against a moving part and nearly severed. Stay away, or go to a reputable facility first, because you'll end-up going elsewhere eventually anyway! This is not a proficient brake shop! read more

Best Place to get ANYTHING fixed quickly and affordably. The shop is right next to my business so they have helped me out countless times with my truck and any patrons we have at our business who need help I feel perfectly fine suggesting them to this Midas. They won't overcharge by any means and they'll get ya up and running again in no time, everything from electrical to mechanical to tires! rare to find a good shop around here so I appreciate this gem even more. read more

I'm not the type to write a review for every place I go to but I just need to take a few minutes and thank Midas in Carson. My car needed new shocks, brakes and tires. I shopped around at a couple other places but the cost was just too high. I called up Midas talked to John and explained to him what I needed. He asked that I bring my car in so they can do a complete check on it. So I come in and John immediately greets me and gets their mechanic to pull my car in. About 15-20 minutes later the mechanic completes the inspection. John gives me a price to do all the work I need and it's a lot less than the other 2 places. I say let's do it and while I'm waiting John offers me coffee, soda or water which was great. My car turned out perfect! Service here was excellent! I found my new mechanic! read more

Went in to the Carson Ca branch for a new master cylinder as this is what I was told I needed (almost $400) . Brakes were good for a few a weeks. Then I saw a light leak. Mind u the hydrolic pressure was still adequate enough to allow proper braking. I don't know when this leak had actually started and I was told it could be a result of new equipment mixed with old. Understandable. So I have them change the bad break line. After hours of sitting with my 10month old trying to keep him comfortable I am told "Sorry, we can't get the bolt off" Em oookaayy?? (They forgot I knew They were the last one one's to touch the brakes when they changed the master cylinder) They drive my car to the front and I put my baby in his seat. I jump in my seat to head out but wait a minute... The pedal is going ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR I HAVE NO BRAKING ABILITY!! I had great BRAKING ability when I came in. What the hell happened and why would they just hand me the car in this condition without even warning me? I could've gotten into an accident with my baby in the car. I was understandably pissed as I went back into the office and demand they fix it. As I was expressing my disgust to one of the mechanics he asked another mechanic, "Did you bleed the brakes??" The young man said yes..about 15m later I was told "sorry but they dont know what's going on. Take it across the street bc they were about to close" So I take it a cross the street and guess what??? The brakes were not bled properly and they had stripped the banjo bolt. Cost me another $100. Let's point out the fact that my child and I were living in a hotel after having to leave our home bc it had been sold and I hadn't been able to find a new landlord. They knew this at the midas in carson bc I told the front desk but why would they care? I'm not their family. When I returned to ask why they would conduct such poor and unethical business I was practically given the cold shoulder. The front desk did ask the same young man who had said they had bled the brakes if in fact they had bled the brakes..second time around he adamantly denied them bleeding the brakes. (Honestly I think they tried to and couldn't sufficiently finish bc they had stripped one of the bolts.) Their disregard for the situation was appalling to me. Found out their main brake mechanic had quit a week or so prior. Figures. The one good honest mechanic that seemed to have empathy and proper as well as automotive technician/mechanic knowledge has since transferred. I had told corporate my experience. No call back. for that, I'm sure this issue isn't over. This app made me tap a star. Love the other locations Ive been to..Id prefer No stars for this location. read more

Highly NOT recommend! I usually go to the car dealer and get my oil change but the day I was feeling really suck and my oil change was due. I live right across the street and thought hey! Im so tired and week why nit just take it across the street! I can just walk across the street while i wait take a nap, no problem. BIG MISTAKE! So... I drop off my car for just a simple oil change THATS it. They said they will call me when they are done with an estimated 45 mins wait. 2 hours later im wondering why they haven't called. I walk over and my car already WAS lone atleast an hour ago but NO notification. It was just sitting there. I end up paying way more than i expected even with a coupon i got off there website. I drove off the lot straight to Ralphs grocery i needed more medicine. When i got back to my car it wouldn't start. My car was perfectly working fine prior to the oil change. I called them back and told them im stuck, car wouldn't run and do they take any responsibility because i just left them. They said they cant do anything about it. So frustrating. NEVER AGAIN!! Brought my Audi Q7 yesterday for rear break pad and rotor install. They did my front brakes so everything should be all right. Nope, they wrote me up for check-up, kept my car for an hour and then they told me the break calipers need special tools to retract. I told them that Audi owners do their replacements on their own but they won't listen. "I wouldn't touch it, I don't want to break anything!" Says one guy. I asked to him to watch the internet video on how to do it but he refused. We'll maybe it's a blessing in disguise. They could've broken my car because they lost the clip to my brake fluid container cover. You can call me if you find it, it's a white piece of plastic. What kind of named business doesn't keep a master list of what car they can and cannot service. For an analogy, America's tire has a database of cars and tires that would fit. They should also have a list of cars that brakes they can service. In the future, cars would be all electronic, I guess their business or maybe the tech. will be going out of business soon if they couldn't keep up or this incompetent. On the other hand, I went to Midas Lomita and spoke to Chris. They were knowledgeable and knew beforehand that they could service my car as expected. Since it was late(because Midas carson kept my car), he gave me a next day-appointment. I brought it the next day and it was done in an hour, no fuss or dilly-dallying. They also charged me $30 less than Midas carson would have charged me. I have been here a few times,(hey this location has been highly recommended by my older brother and sister)...back In 2014 they had a lady by the name of Kathy and a guy named Paul, and that is the first time I ever trusted a repair shop and the mechanics... it was a great feeling to be able to trust. Anybody who has dealt with mechanics, can vouch, that some will try to get over on you in more ways than one. This is not the case with these guys ...you have guys like John who really give superior and legendary customer service, he is kind and understanding and just plain old awesome! Then you have Moses, who was very thorough in his evaluation of my car, due to another mechanic telling me my car was no good. Moses showed me what he did to determine my car was fine and he had a couple of recommendations for me. These guys here will ease your mind, and provide a pleasant experience.
