I'm sorry to say that I won't be going back to Midas on Greenback anymore. I've taken my work trucks as well as personal autos. First, when taking my daughters car in. We found out that the hours changed from 7:00 to 8:00 in the morning. Also they stopped what was a great shuttle service if needed. It took four days to replace the AC pump. At the end of the third day I got a call saying that they put in the new pump and it still didn't work. I was told that one of the parts was wrong and it would be another day. Now I'm getting suspicious. I thought about it for a while and talked to another repair shop. They said I need to bring them the replaced parts so I called Midas back and told a woman on the phone that I wanted the old pump and parts and to put them in the back seat floor. There were no parts given back to me as I asked so now I cannot have them verified. This is the good old shady repair shop now and I wouldn't recommend them. read more

Wife went in for oil change and tire rotation. They made excuses why they couldn't do tire rotation. Seemed was something they just didn't want to do. She had made an appointment online but they tried to say she didn't. I had an appointment also a few days later. Went in for oil change and transmission flush. They checked milage and asked if had any transmission issues. I stated might be but not sure. That was used to deny that service. I declined any services and left with worker continuing to explain why wouldn't do transmission flush. I had to say I don't need reasoning anymore after they repeated it a few times. Writing this cause I took my car to jiffy lube and they at least looked up if my car was due for a transmission flush. Which it wasn't. The vibe of "we pick and choose services we will do for you" is abolsolute BS. Will not be trying to use any Midas for service on any vehicle we have. read more

It does't get any better! I had my PT Cruiser in the shop for two days and while it was there, they took me to and from work, volunteering, and home. They called me, not the other way around to see if I needed a ride. They had the car ready ahead of time and for less than originally quoted! These guys are awesome. I took my BMW in to have an Inspection done on it after the guys at Firestone down the street were rude to me. They were super happy to do it and did it right on the spot. Later that day I took my chevy in with a check engine light on and they checked it at no charge. They told me what the problem was and how i should go about fixing it, knowing I could fix it myself. They didn't try to sell me on them doing the work. They even printed out a firing order for my exact truck for me. They always do a great job and are very honest. They have checked my engine light for free and I never feel like they are taking advantage because I'm female. I have been going here for about seven years. My car is now 11 years old with 117,000 miles. Three times I've had other places (including a dealership) tell me I needed big repairs (thousands of dollars). All three times I got a second opinion with these guys and they always said i didn't need it. And after this long with none of those things going wrong, I think they were right. They never try to sell me something other than what I come in for. Several times they have checked something for me for free. I drive 30 minutes one way just to have them look at it. I trust them to tell me when something really needs repaired or when it could wait. I think a lot of folks trust them, because they are always packed. I really like midas and expecially this one, I had my front brakes done there a few months ago and now I'm getting my back brakes done today, they are very nice and don't try to screw you over. As a girl it is very hard to trust machanics because you never really know what is. At this location they always call me and let me know whats going on with the car how long it should take and even will give you a ride back to work or home. when I went around and checked prices around town to get my brakes done midas was actually about $30-$70 cheaper than their competors. Only reason for 1 star is the price was good. Had an appointment then told it would be an hour. So my 2 year old and I had to wait outisde because we didn't have a ride to leave. Their gazebo area is covered with trash, needle caps , and smells heavily of urine. After waiting and not being told my car was done, i took my daughter to grab food at which time we notcied the car was in another spot. I went and asked how mcyh longer and the owner said it was already finished, "thought youd realize it when your car was in a different spot" sorry dude im not a mind reader. Every place ive ever gone to lets the customer know their work is done, they dont assume i saw it move spots (which i couldnt even see from the gazebo area) he was only the phone the whole time while i was checking out too which was extremely rude customer service. Thanks for letting my daughter play with the toys, thats about the best part of our crap visit. They didnt reset my oil light and their stickers dont say anything about when to return, just says the current mileage and date of current service. I wanted a set appointment which is why i came here too, but Chevron oil stop is my norm and never disappoints, I will be continuingmy business with them! Worth the extra $! read more

As for the negative comments about this place, I would question whether these folks had an affiliation with another car repair place. My experiences have been AMAZING and I am dubious of everyone. I did shop around and their prices were right in line with the other "fair " guys. So why did I choose them? They were very communicative (They told me what to expect when I walked in so I would be hit with a bill I wasn't prepared to pay). They were polite ( even drove me home in a moments notice) They were honest ( I don't expect the world. They can not stop for me when there is a 10 car back up but, they tell me that it will take a while! Much better than lying to me so they can get my business and then making me late for other commitments.) I felt so confident with them that, when my check engine came on two weeks after I purchased my vehicle, I drove all the way home from Elk Grove because I only trusted them. It was almost five o'clock and I anticipated leaving the car there and walking home. The guys stayed late and ran a test (it ended up being something very insignificant) and they never charged me a dime. Have you ever had that experience? I drive almost 30,000 miles a year for my job. They have seen me through at least four cars so far. Midas in Fair Oaks might be part of a big company but it is a family run operation that I am more than happy to support. read more

I have been going to this location past few years for routine maintenance. I will sit and wait and I listen. I listen to their phone calls and how they speak to customers. I also listen how they talk to each other. This is a great group of people. You can tell when there is a good management in place. I don't see any dishonesty. Late for work and the battery light came on. I saw Midas was open, and I thought, "any port in a storm!" They were busy, but when I explained I was late for work they helped me right away. I went into Midas because my Toyota 4Runner failed a smog emissions test. The smog shop said if failed and was considered a gross polluter. I was very concerned it was going to cost me a lot of money in repairs. I did call Midas and spoke to Mike who told be to call the day before I bring it in. So I brought my Toyota in on a Thursday late afternoon and Mike called me first thing Friday morning. He said come on down we just passed your smog and your ready to go. Talk about fantastic service and excellent customer service. Mike was very professional about my Toyota concerns and even gave me a ride home on their shuttle service because I did not have a ride home. I have to say while I was waiting Mike was interacting with other customers as they came in and he was very funny making everyone feel right at home. I also have to say excellent work performances by the mechanics that day because as the temperatures were close to 100 degrees they kept smiling and making everyone feel right at home. Thank you to everyone working for Midas. You made my experience stress free and treated me with respect in every way. This was the best experience I've ever had in the automobile industry and I will be bringing any future work to them. This place is amazing!!! Usually mechanic shops leave you in a bad mood, but both times that we left this place they have left us completely satisfied (one time owing a balance and another not owing anything). A few months ago when my husbands car needed work, their customer service was above and beyond. Then just this morning a part on my jeep went out and he went above and beyond again to contact the dealer and see if it is covered under warranty. Instead of charging me for ridiculous fees he helped me figure out what was wrong with my car and guide me to the dealer who will fix it for free. Highly recommend this place. I wanted to get my personal belongings out of the car and my service writer, Renton Garrett, told me to go out in the shop to get my things. This was inconvenient for me as the shop equipment made it hard for me to access the interior of my car. Renton explained that the car was down low on the rack still for the shop's convenience since I decided to go ahead and have the work done on the spot. Furthermore, Renton was also argumentative with me and somewhat hostile in tone asking me what he should grab out of the car of mine because I wanted to access my personal belongings myself without shop personnel combing through my things. I would be careful about allowing customers into the shop area in the future. You are lucky I did not hurt myself in the shop. You place your business in danger of an injury lawsuit by allowing customers in the service areas. First time I went in, they were polite, efficient and reasonably priced for an oil change, however, when I got home and looked at my receipt, it was for a Ford Explorer. (I drive a Toyota Camry) I made an appointment for an oil change this morning at 9:30. They did warn me ahead of time that with a "late" appointment, they would have to finish any drive-ups that arrived before me. I was prepared to wait, and when they told me to come back in an hour, I took my book across the driveway to a fast food place, had breakfast and waited an hour and a half because I saw that they hadn't touched my car. When I then walked back over, I was told that since the mileage was written down incorrectly by the man who initially wrote up the order.... the work never get done. WHAT???? He simply said "sorry, a mix-up on our part" and handed the keys back and asked if I'd like to make another appointment. (In my mind, customer service and retention protocol would have warranted an apology and offer to make me next in line and have out of there in 20 minutes. I can't help but wonder if the fact that I had a coupon made me a less valuable customer :( At any rate, I'm now an ex-customer. read more

Took my car in to get the battery and oil changed. The staff was very friendly and extremely helpful, they offered me coupons that were on their website without prompting. They even have a shuttle to take you where you need to go. It's nice to have a place that offers competitive pricing but it still has that neighborhood feel. read more

I had a broken brake line and my rear drum brakes were damaged. I brought the car in at 3pm and Renton, the manager, said it could be fixed before closing at 5pm. I waited at Midas while the car was being repaired. around 5pm, the employee working on my car realized the brake shoes were incorrect for my vehicle. They went the extra mile and sent an employee to pick up the correct parts and continued working on my car until it was finished around 6:15pm. I was amazed at the level of service I received. They stayed over an hour past closing time and went out of there way to pick up the parts I needed so I could be back on the road on the same day. I was very impressed with the service and care i received and will definitely recommend Midas to others. Everybody I've told about my situation has been amazed with my story and I think it's important to recognize all the employees involved in getting my car back on the road and putting me ahead of there own desire to close for the day. Just had my Heat/Ac system worked on yesterday. It was the first time I have been to this shop but it came highly recommended from a friend. From the moment I called to make the appointment to the moment I picked up my car, my experience was amazing. The gentleman in the front was so friendly and wasn't condescending when he spoke to me (ladies, you know what I am talking about!!). HIGHLY RECOMMEND! My 1st Midas experience over 15 yrs ago at a different location was a DISASTER that involved the Better Biz Bureau etc. So when I was referred to this particular Midas by someone I trusted, I was hesitant. Everyone I deal with in person or on the phone is helpful & courteous. They have told me when I should just do a diagnostic instead of outright repair to make sure of an issue in case lesser repairs are needed and the diagnostic cost applies to subsequent repair. I've done a pre-purchase check that saved me thousands in repairs down the road and the one-time I didn't bring a SUV I was interested in buying, I ended up with a lemon. The electrical system was so hinky they couldn't get a code readout until the alternator was replaced and then they could figure out why my truck kept stalling out. They recommended I use the State program of turning in cars that cost more to fix than they're worth. Didn't charge me for the time/labor spent; only cost was replacement battery so I could drive the lemon in to the State. I see the 1-stars and I'm sorry about your expereience. ALWAYS ask about your options. No one is a mind-reader and time is money. I always let them know I want cost-conscious options; don't assume this should be obvious...what about the guy who was upset because to him cost was not an issue? High volume business means you get more comptetive prices but you may not get the personal one-on-one attention you personally need. Manage your expectations, ask questions and let them know what you need from them and you won't be disappointed. read more

With few exceptions, the days of the trusted "family mechanic" are all but gone. I am happy to say that Midas at the corner of Greenback and Fair Oaks is one of the rare exceptions. I have lived in Orangevale for more than 20 years and Midas has done all of the work on all of my vehicles over that time -- Ford, Chevy, Toyota, and now Subaru. I truly appreciate when they give me a heads up on a preventative maintenance service that will save me money down the road, and when or how long I can wait before doing that service. I got a good deal with my brake job and the oil change special they had going on was a good deal. And they do more than just general maintenece as well, they actually do diagnostics and smog repairs!
