I had the pleasure of dealing with James a few weeks back. My fiance had some work done at the Jackson's car wash while I was out of town and the end result was lacking to say the least. I ended up getting new brakes for my fiance as originally intended and added an alignment for safe measure. However I was so pleased with the service we received I decided to get my brakes done and an alignment as well. I waited on some major work and brought it back here. I am so embarrassed that it has taken me so LONG to thank the wonderful technician at this Midas Shop! I came in JUST before their closing and during my spring break trip. I was en route to the airport to return my rental car that had gotten a flat (I'd changed the flat) but the tire and wheel were going to cost me at car rental. Monty Brown did EVERYTHING in his power to get a replacement (5pm in a Saturday!) and took so much time calling my car rental co, insurance etc to try and help me. I will bring my Toyota Avalon here and no where else. Without exception, my car is retuned to me with the agreed upon repairs, for the extremely reasonable price and at the agreed upon time. I have never been given the run around when I go to pick up the car when they say it's ready only to find out it's not. I have never picked up the car to find out my repair is higher than the estimate. I value my time and finding a place that does honest work with reasonable rates is worth it's weight in gold. The manager, James, is a true professional. He treats his clients well and I'm sure it shows with the amount of repeat business; and I should know since it is my 6th or 7th time doing business with James at this Midas location. Called in advance i was told to come right in there was no one in the shop but me. They took my car back around 10:50AM it's now 1:45PM and i still have not gotten my car back. All i was getting fixed was 1 window regulator. I get it car work can take a while sometimes but when i come back and see my car has not even been started on and everyone is walking around eating pizza and having side conversations, that Is horrible service. They put the car so fat out of alignment it could make a left hand turn if let go steering . Then when asked for paper showing settings said didn't have . Went hot second opinion said every setting off! Then they told us we needed tires for 1,800 $ and said couldn't be aligned because tires . Rotated tires with not being told after we just had done day before at Walmart . Called them and they agreed to give money back on alignment but not tire rotation . Initially this was a place that I trusted and came to after I had terrible service at other auto repair shops and the first few times I had been provided good customer service. I purchased tires with lifetime warranty and my tire went out on the freeway yesterday . I called today to discuss and the associate was rude and unhelpful . Told Me there was nothing they could do about it and since the tire was no longer on my rim I was outside my warranty. I explained the situation and they continued to argue and tell me I was wrong. Dropped car off at 1130 appointment time. Was told that it would be 45 mins to an hour..fair enough. The waiting lounge is comfortable and had coffee and bottled water available. After an hour or so my car came out of the garage to the outside lift. It then proceeded to be there for another 35 mins while dingledorf the mechanic took a 10 min break to chat with coworkers between every tire he rotated. Giving 2 stars bc the 18.99 oil change rotation price is great. However, taking my car to jiffy lube for $10 more next time bc my personal time has a price too. read more

This place is a scam. My tires haven't needed any air for months. After taking my car in for an oil change, they "found" a nail in my tire that can't be repaired and suddenly, the very same tire is leaking air at a critical rate. Their low prices for oil changes are nothing more than a reason to create new issues with your car so they can get you for the higher margin services. Stay away. read more

Came in here for an oil change with a Groupon. I unexpectedly lost my job last week and these guys were so understanding and nice. I desperately needed new tires and they helped make recommendations and find a way to get the new tires, then gave me my alignment for free. I realize this is a long review, but it's worth reading if you want to avoid a possible $1,000 mistake. Several months ago my car needed a new fuel pump, so I took it to Midas since it's super close to my work. Midas tells me I don't need a new fuel pump (even though the car is starting funny whenever it's got less than half a tank of gas), what I actually need is a new radiator and thermostat because my car is running hot. Next thing I know, I get a phone call saying the car still isn't right, and now I need a new water pump in order for it to run without overheating. By now I realize I've been scammed but the radiator and thermostat work has already been done. After talking to an acquaintance who works for AAA, I learn that it's very rare for a car's radiator, thermostat, and water pump to ALL need simultaneous replacement, and that this is a common oversell scam that repair shops use on people who don't understand why a car overheats. Shit. $900 later I drive away with way more work done on my car than I ever wanted. But get this. I drive away and my AC (that worked fine before) won't turn on! I take it to AAA Auto Repair on Camelback (no way am I going back to Midas) and they repair it for another $102 and tell me it looks like whoever did my radiator work tore out a bunch of my AC wire system in the process. Thank you Midas! Whether you were hoping for me to pay you for some AC work next, or you're just clumsy as f@ck, screw you! Definitely won't be back to this place ever again. read more

Went to Midas to get an oil change. My 1st time in years going to a new mechanic. My ex got my old mechanic in the divorce (his cousin.) But, I figured since Midas was a large chain I would be ok. They wouldn't ruin their reputation would they? I spent over $50 for an oil change- one that took over an hour and I was the only customer there. Then they came in telling me I needed a new air filter- that was going to cost me $60 to replace, and I needed new brake discs, drums, rotors, etc. and the price would be over $850. They advised me that I needed it done right away and that it would be dangerous if I didn't. When I turned them down they called me at home the next week telling me their main office was wiling to give me a 20% discount if I had it done that week... RED FLAG! I decided to take my chances until I yelped a good mechanic- after all, my brakes seemed ok.. Today, almost 2 months later- because I had to save the $, I took my car to Gene's auto (thanks yelpers for your reviews) Gene said I had 50-60% of my brakes left and I wouldn't need it to be replaced for quite some time. SCREW YOU MIDAS! Now what to do with my extra $800? read more

I went to this Midas yesterday for an oil change because I have yet to find an oil-changer around here I trust. They initially told me it would take about 45 minutes to get it done. About 45 minutes later, the guy told me that it was almost done and that my battery and one other critical part needed replaced. He said the battery was getting 517 CCA and would fail any day. Being a girl with no car knowledge, I have serious trust issues with mechanics who tell me I must buy NOW, so I got a second opinion. This morning I took my car to Checker (much better!) to get the battery re-tested. My battery was fine. It was getting 100% on the meter. It most certainly did not need to be replaced. So I have reason to believe the Midas men tried to mislead me and sell me a battery I don't need, but that wasn't all of the fun I had at Midas. After I declined to buy $240 of replacements I probably don't actually need, they told me that the oil drain plug (or cap? I don't actually know) had been previously screwed on too tight and was stripped. So they needed a replacement. I drive a Hyundai. It is not an uncommon car. It seems strange they wouldn't have a part that I am told commonly needs replaced during an oil change. They had to call a supplier down the street for the part. Naturally they didn't call the supplier for maybe 20 to 30 minutes AFTER they had told me they needed to get the part. I heard the call, I just don't know why they didn't call sooner. So my 45 minute oil change turned into 2 hours and a scam. Catch me going back to Midas. read more

I drive well out of my way to go to this Midas. I think that says it all. I was so upset with the lousy service from the associates at the Big-O Tires on McDowell and Scottsdale that I needed to take my business to someone who treats their customers with respect and appreciation. The associates at Midas are very courteous, expedient, and very thorough when reviewing all your car's information with you. I apologize for not knowing the gentleman's name at the front counter, but he is a true service professional. They have earned my loyalty, and I hope more people come to this Midas to experience how auto mechanic shops should be run. read more

Had a great experience here while waiting for an oil change. I called literally 2 hours before and they got me in for a noon appointment. Service was prompt. They didn't try and sell me other services. The waiting room had WIFI and was fairly clean. They even have water bottles in the fridge for customers! I bought a Groupon for an oil change, but knew I needed other mechanical work done as well. Instead of telling me what I needed, they brought me out to my car and showed me the issues. They itemized the list of importance and gave me affordable options. Because it was going to take longer than I had planned, they drove me to work and offered to pick me up. Chris and Lori were a pleasure to interact with and, for the first time in my female, car owning life, I didn't feel like I had been taken advantage of. This Midas is the worst. I needed a exhaust pipe to be bent a little bit. I called them and said they could do it. I get there, wait two hours, and they say they don't have any fuel for their burner so they can heat up the pipe to bend it. A couple weeks later, I came back in, and they said that they made the bend and added some exhaust hangers because they said mine were old. But they bent the exhaust too far so now it was hitting something else. I then came back for the third time. I waited for about a hour and they said that they can't do anything about it. They also said that they didn't even make a bend in the exhaust but when I went in before, they said they did. They also charged me 88$ for exhaust hangers which is BS! Don't trust them!!! read more

I went to get a LOF on the Beast last Wednesday. I inform Mike of a noise I'm hearing coming from the drivers side. He said they'd check into it. He comes back a little while later and says I need a new wheel bearing assembly and says he'll show me the old part. He brings me the part after it's taken off to show me and not knowing what i was really looking at, I say okay, lets get it fixed up and me back on the road. Almost $700 out of pocket. He did give me a discount as a repeat (with multiple vehicles) customer. So that was nice. A few days later, I'm hearing the same noise. I call and speaking to another guy who says to bring it back in. So I take it in this AM for a 0730 appointment. James is there and after I get him up to speed - James looking at my service records/notes and mentions that it could be the mode door actuator, which he sees needs replacing in the service notes. I state that the noise is coming from outside the vehicle. The service guy then takes it for a test drive. About 45 minutes later, I ask if they've found anything. He mentions to me that they're checking the transmission fluid level to see if they're low. And I say, isn't that one of the fluids that should have been topped off last week, if it was needed??? Silence. He says the wheel bearing assembly was masking the transmission noise. I say, um this is the same noise, the same location, the same intervals and only when breaking. James says, we'll let you know what we find. After about another 20 minutes, he comes over by the waiting area. I turn around and he doesn't come in but and jingles my keys, tells me it's coming from the transmission, tells me his guy doesn't know or isn't qualified for transmissions (cant remember his exact words), and to go down the street to AAMCO, basically dismisses me and disappears. I pack up my stuff and leave kind of dumbfounded. Same noise, coming from the same location, at same intervals and only when breaking as last week when I was told it was the wheel bearing assembly. :( Update - I took it to another midas location immediately Friday and they were not able to get the vehicle to produce the noise. They however did find a socket was still on the vehicle. How long it had been there, if it was left on after leaving the scottsdale shop or if it had been on there since my last LOF from there a few months ago, who knows. Coincidentally, I haven't heard the noise since Friday after the visit to the other shop and them finding the socket. read more

Both my experiences here were so good I don't even know where to start! Experience one: my car wouldn't start while I was at the US Post Office on McDowell on Scottsdale Road. In an attempt to find a shop to have it towed to, I used YELP and this was the closest location. I called and spoke to Charlie. I told him what had transpired the last two days that led to the current mechanical issue I was experiencing. He obviously couldn't diagnose it over the phone; but, he sent one of his mechanics to help me out. Less than 5 minutes later, a mechanic arrived. He was so helpful and very attentive. We were able to get my car started to take it to the shop. Once there they ordered the part that needed to be replaced and dealt with the entity responsible for the failure. It was a great experience. I highly recommend them. Experience two: I took my car in to get the 50,000 mile check up done as well as have the car looked over to make sure it was in good mechanical condition. He did what the manufacturer required and also changed the transmission fluid (at my request). He could have said I needed more work done (I wouldn't know any different); but, he didn't. This is a great place to take your vehicle to if you want an honest mechanic to work on it. :-) read more

I'm glad to see there are other negative reviews on here as well. The other reviewers are right, the mechanics at this place lie to the customers and invent problems that don't exist. I took my car in to have an exhaust leak fixed, and was told my front brakes AND my front shocks were completely shot. I was already suspicious because I hadn't heard any noise from the front of my car, so I took my car somewhere else. Everything was fine and to top it off, the exhaust problem that Midas found was only a small part of the problem and wouldn't have fixed the noise my car was making. Very unhappy with this place. I had to go in for new brakes after just having my engine replaced recently and was not prepared for so many car expenses back to back. To top it off, My car ended up needing additional work that I was not prepared for. I don't know if JD could tell, but he helped me out and gave me a free oil change. I've brought my car to this Midas location on two occassions and was so happy with the service both times. The mechanics were curteous and explained everything to me in a way that I was able to understand. Went to Midas today to get an oil change that was long overdue for my 2011 Mazda. I'm new to the area so I don't have my own personal mechanic yet, but I found a Groupon deal online for an oil change at Midas. Andrew took my call and made an appointment, he was very sweet over the phone. As I went to my appointment today, I as pleasantly surprised to see that Andrew was working again, he was outrageously polite and really made me feel welcome. The Oil change itself was very quick and I was out of there a lot sooner than I expected. I had read some terrible reviews for Midas before, there were quite a few reasons I avoided the Midas in Tempe (due to absolutely awful reviews). But I would have to say, that I was very satisfied with this visit. I would definitely return to this location. read more

Amazing service! I had a groupon for my brakes and synthetic oil change. Service manager gave me a price even lower and fixed my bumper guard at no extra cost! Done same day! Kudos to this shop.
