Reliable, big portions, clean, fast 24/7 service. There are plenty of restaurants on the UES but these guys never disappoint. They are open 24/7, fast service and actually give me a portion that is filling. Nothing fancy or crazy but if you're looking for a good spot to grab a massive salad, some eggs after a night out or just a solid sandwich come here. Prices are average for diners in the UES and to me it's worth it when you consider the amount of food your getting. Big fan of the Greek and Cobb salads - can easily feed 2 and the Cobb is loaded with chicken breast. Omelets are great - can request egg whites for a slightly up charge and they give you buttered bread to accompany. Personally prefer to order pick up/carry out since deliver fees can be a little nuts depending where you are but that's on the app not them There are always people there which is telling on the UES. He apologized and then took the plastic card. The next time we saw him, he brought us the full check. It's really gross that a cockroach would be inside the restaurant. It's even grosser that the roach felt comfortable strutting across our table, with the confidence of Tyra Banks on a runway. I live in the area and have wanted to try the Midnight Express Diner for some time now. My girlfriend and I went around noon on a Sunday and there was a 10 minute wait. We eventually got seated in a booth which we were pleased with. I got the two egg breakfast with bacon and my girlfriend got the western omelette with cheddar cheese. Our meals were pretty good! Next time I'd probably get the BEC/breakfast sandwich on a roll. Service was quick and friendly. Prices are very reasonable. I'll be back! read more

I ordered Southern Fried Chicken Dinner it came with a choice of potato, vegetable and salad. The chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, the baked potato was good too. I got steamed carrots they were basically plain. I I ordered a baked potato and steamed carrots. I also ordered oatmeal with bananas and brown sugar to have for the morning and fresh fruit salad. That too was pretty good. My only issues I thought was that for diner food it was very expensive compared to what I'm used to paying. read more

I had to stay at work for an extra shift and I was in need of some breakfast, so I looked up some local spots and this was the location I chose. When you walk into the diner, there are a bunch of black and white photographs all around and really nice music playing in the background. The inside of the diner is rather spacious and very clean. The wait staff was very friendly and orders were taken promptly. I ordered the pancakes deluxe with scrambled eggs and beef sausage. While waiting for my food, I got a chance to look at other peoples orders being brought out to the table and everything looked amazing. My order was out in about 10 minutes,The presentation of the food was quiet appealing. The entire meal was delicious and I have no complaints. A great neighborhood diner and one of the only places open 24 hours. We always have a lot fun here! I've gotten to know the staff over the years and always look forward to a visit. New adventures and laughs every day! Will 100 percent say the staff keeps me coming back. It's a NYC diner so the menu is deep. I'm sharing some of my favorite breakfast item pictures here. The Midnight Treat breakfast sandwich is a stand out. It's also something you can customize. With a full bar, also a great spot for brunch! It is the UES so it is kid and stroller friendly. Stopped by to meet my son and his fiance because this place has sentimental meaning to them. Service was good, but the food was meh. Decor could use some updating as well. It is very dark inside. We told the waitress who brought it to the attention of the manager, who proceeded to examine the plate under a light and moved the salad around with a fork attempting to locate the hair. He then approached me and denied that there was a hair there, challenged me to find it for him, then proceeded to say how he thought it was "funny" that I ate all the chicken and then found the hair. After I told him I would not be paying for it he started to fight with me and mock me in his native language to his coworkers right in front of me. Oh my, there isn't enough you can say about this place. This museum is HUGE, I almost got lost just turning left and right in the same display and would end up seeing something new. There isn't a real good way to really really see the whole thing in one day, I'd say almost impossible. Not sure why, maybe near new years but the place was so packed it was hard to move and the lines to the bathrooms were incredibly long. Not really sure how'd they'd solve that issue, but maybe better signage pointing people to other locations or something, seemed like sometimes the staff was more there to ask you not to lean on a wall than ensure smooth flow of people. Any who, there are so many nice exhibits here and just some amazing wonderful art work there. They have themed sections for weapons and armor to classic Americana and British as well as African American and Egypt. This is a must visit place for sure. This place used to be good but it has gone so far downhill. My husband got food poisoning from undercooked sausage, the bathrooms are FILTHY and smell like a Portopotty, there are flies, the toilet isn't even cemented into the ground and tilts forward when you try to use it. Despite it being mid-day, we decided to try the Midnight Diner. Positive first impression as there was only a short wait and friendly staff. We were quickly seated and greeted by a server. However, it did become a bit overwhelming when we were asked multiple times if someone took our drink order and then again if someone took our lunch order. Got some midnight hunger and decided to order here since there wasn't much open. It was a huge portion but also quite expensive for it not being too flavorful. I was also confused because chicken is in the name of the dish...but it's not in the description so I was confused if chicken was extra or already added. So I added chicken so the total dish came out to about $27...which is pretty crazy for pasta. Wouldn't pay this much again and I would advise updating description for clarity. For a diner in New York City, the Midnight Express Diner is actually fairly large with plenty of booths, tables, and a small bar. Coffee: The Midnight Express Diner coffee was brewed hot and fresh. Plus the waitress brought plenty of refills. Food: The Midnight Express Diner menu has everything a regular diner has. There are plenty of breakfast and brunch options as well as lunch too. A few items on the Midnight Express Diner menu that stuck out to me were the smoked salmon, benny bagel, greek quesadilla, open-faced sandwiches with hollandaise sauce.  I decided to order the berry pancakes. The berry pancakes came with strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries baked in the pancakes as well as topped with more berries and granola. The pancakes were light and fluffy and one of the better diner pancakes I've had. Pancakes are risky to order at a diner because they are either good or thin and boring. Luckily these were good. Service: The waitress was friendly and the food came out fast. In all, it was a positive experience. Overall Thoughts/Would I Come Back? The bread was toasted to a nice crispy texture, as was the turkey bacon. The avocado added a nice kick of flavor to the sandwich, and the sandwich had a perfect taste to it. This got my day going on a good note, which was great as I got up at 2:00 AM that day. I have ordered from Midnight Express several times already, and they have not disappointed me one bit. If these were $5 shakes, then whatever, WHO CARES, but at almost $11/shake on GrubHub & we usually order 3 -- that comes out to almost $35-40. We walked here from the Guggenheim for lunch, and glad we did. Broad menu that offers everything from breakfast to dinner entrees. We each had a panini. My wife had the healthy panini (substituting feta for mozzarella--which she felt made it better), I had the soprano. Both were excellent, very filling and a great value. We ordered beers and were surprised to have our server bring very cold, very frosted mugs--haven't seen those in...decades?
