I have had excellent dinners in the past but yesterday three of us had across the board poor food. Bland bland and bland describes our experience. The Ruben meat was mushy and flavorless and the requested aoili did not have much to offer in the flavor dept.. The squash soup had no flavor and the crab cakes upon cutting had a smell that should have told me not to eat them. While not bad bad, they were not quite right..not fresh or house made. I was not outright sick I was not right all night. And last the Ceasar with shrimp had no flavor. The appetizer offering was delicious as was the coffee and key lime pie. And for 3 less than mediocre lunches, I paid $100.00. Even though I have had excellent dinners, yesterday was 3 strikes snd I may not give them another chance. .. read more

Likely one of the nicest patio dining in Santa Fe in the summer. I love all the rock water-fountains and vignettes. The tables are set to a finer standard than one might expect at first. Then the service begins and attention to detail becomes clear. Thoughtful waitstaff make you feel at home even if Midtown Bistro makes you feel like you were suddenly whisked away to somewhere you should have dressed a little up for if you hadn't already. Polished glasses and silverware make it clear there's a standard of quality being maintained here. The menu features a nice variety of familiar favorites like fish and chips and a Reuben. And they have some gourmet salads that sound great. So far, my faves are the fish and chips and the Reuben. I have a ways to go on their menu. So far, I love this place. More to come! read more

My wife and I had an excellent dinner tonight. As others have noted, the area it's in is a bit funky and out-of-the-way, but the bistro itself is lovely both inside and out. We had a reservation at 6:30 and we were seated immediately on the patio, beside one of the many stone fountains (which apparently are from the stone dealer in the adjacent property). Service by "Enrique" was prompt and attentive and he made fine recommendations: We started with a generous calamari appetizer--perfectly prepared and served with two dipping sauces. Our entrees were the lamb chops (half order consisted of 2 large, double-sized chops, cooked rare as ordered, served with a generous portion of mashed potatoes and chard, and crab cakes served with a large watercress salad. We shared the two entrees and found that to be the perfect amount of food for dinner with the calamari. For dessert, Enrique suggested the key lime pie, and it was spot on ...probably the best we have had. While somewhat pricey, the meal was delicious and worth the expense, especially for the quality of the food, the garden-like ambience and the service. So, 5 stars and a big thumbs up! (We suggest requesting a table to the left as you enter the patio, as it felt more spacious and further from the kitchen). read more

We were there for lunch. In attentive server, of course 2 older women at our table ( SO typical). The salad did not seems dressed with enough dressing, the cold gazpacho soup was freezing; was better as it warmed to room temp., but lovely table setting and nice to be somewhere with cloth napkins again. First, service was excellent. And my wife enjoyed her salmon--when the kitchen forgot to add spinach our server brought her a large portion. My pork chop was tasty but tough. The green beans were tender and tasty. Unfortunately that's where the positive comments end. The $18 avocado Caesar salad was almost tasteless and the lettuce leaves were brown at the edges. The bread basket contained 4 minuscule pieces of bread. The prices were eye-opening--most appetizers and salads were in the $18-20 range, entrees $36-50 with most $40+. So, one shared salad, 2 entrees and 2 of the least expensive glasses of wine ($13 each), after tax and tip, totaled almost $170. Midtown Bistro has one of the loveliest settings in Santa Fe with a nice outdoor section. But it is not good value for your money. read more

Traveling to Santa Fe for Christmas, we chose Midtown Bistro for our Christmas Eve Dinner based on other reviews. We arrived on time for our reservation and the place was a bustle of activity (which I took as a really good sign!) though it was tightly packed in the entryway, the other patrons were friendly and we all made light of the wait (nothing terrible), just more people than there was room for in that area. There was a set menu that evening, which consisted of 3 courses. One could pick an appetizer for an extra charge as well as bumping out the already full portions to include sides such as green beans ($8.00). I selected the chicken ($50 or $55 can't remember) and had a salad of arugula which had a nice under plating of a balsamic reduction. I noticed my other dining companions, who had ordered different salads than mine, ALSO had generous helpings of balsamic on each. Then my chicken came...yup..balsamic on that as well. However, the chicken was under cooked and raw! (YUCK!!) There is NO excuse for under cooked / raw poultry. I very nicely asked our server if the chicken could be cooked more (I did not tell her it was raw in places) however NO apology was ever made, no "is this better"? Not even a question as to WHY chicken would need to be sent back to be re cooked. This meal was so un impressive. I could not eat the chicken once it was returned to me so I figured I had room for the dessert that comes with the meal. My favorite, Carrot Cake! What a treat..NOT! Like the chicken, how do you screw up Carrot Cake?! It was bland, no texture and was saturated with frosting AND a side scoop of whipped cream. Horrible. The entire meal was over priced, the place was too impressed with itself to give a flying fig about it's guests and I had one of the worst meals that I had the privilege of paying $65+ for (one glass of wine plus the raw chicken..the wine was good though!). read more

My boyfriend & I had dinner with our friends while on vacation from Honolulu. Also dining with us were our friend's aunt & uncle who are New Mexico locals. We were warmly welcomed & ordered a bottle of wine to start which was excellent. Four of us had the ribeye, delicious from the first bite to the last. It came with green beans & green chili mashed potatoes, quite tasty! We shared keylime pie & chocolate cake which ended the evening rubbing our tummies full & satisfied. Midtown Bistro has the nicest outdoor space of any restaurant in Santa Fe with fountains, beautiful plinths and sculptures, lush greenery and comfortable seating. Tables are set with linens and heaters are provided for chilly evening dining. The inside portion of the restaurant is spacious and quite attractive: large enough for a celebratory lunch or dinner, but with enough smaller seating for a party of two. The chilled avocado cucumber soup is a palate pleaser, especially on these hot summer days. The housemade chips are perfectly fried: not greasy and well seasoned. The roast pork sandwich with caramelized onion was grilled and the taste: first rate. Bread is supplied by Whole Foods. The Cobb salad made with spinach, egg, chicken, tomato, bacon and avocado was by far, the best I've tasted. The young man who was bussing was very helpful and friendly. He should have been the waiter. I would have given a five star rating but our waiter didn't check on how we liked our food, if we needed anything during the course of the meal and wasn't friendly when we ordered; he seemed rushed. We had to ask the busser for our check. The waiter seemed friendly when he brought the check; they may have just been short staffed. There are clean spacious restrooms with handicap access. The restaurant is off West San Mateo and not a place you would run into on a Sunday drive, but it is well worth finding. read more

I wish I didn't have to write this review but. . . I've been going to this restaurant with two of my friends for lunch for a long time. Yesterday, I sent back a Tuna Nicoise salad because the tuna was limp, completely raw and tasteless, with a slight flavor resembling fish gone bad. These things happen. Then I ordered a soup instead. The waitress was incredibly sweet about this. I never complain about what I'm served unless its truly inedible, which this was. Anyway, when the bill came, one of my friends felt that I shouldn't have been charged for the Tuna. (They charged me for the salad, not the soup.) So my pal took the bill to the manager to have them change it. Next thing we know, the OWNER comes out in a huff and accuses me of having eaten half the tuna! I said--no, I cut it up in the salad, tasted it, and didn't think I should eat it. Well then he said--no, I examined the pieces to see how much was eaten and you ate half of it. (By now, my friends are getting into it and I am basically sitting there with my jaw dropping. . .) He said he'd be out 8 dollars if he substituted the cost of the soup for the cost of the salad. Can you imagine? We've been going there for 3 years, the hostess knows us, and this idiot doesn't realize he's just screwed his own restaurant out of $200 a month--because that's about the total of lunch for the 3 of us each month. We couldn't get out of there soon enough. This restaurant was a favorite, but the customer sure isn't always right in this place. In fact, the owner downright disrespects and detest his customers--all for 8 bucks? read more

Food was delicious! But they are a rip off. Some of its very pricey. I ordered the lunch trio- sandwich, salad, soup for $16. I told them I didn't want the soup, so Was very surprised to see I was charged for the salad and half sandwich- really? I asked for less but was charged for more . Server said because the chef wanted to give me more salad, because of no soup.... So again why was I charged more? I'm not sure cuz no one told me of the issue until I got the bill. He offered to see if he could get it corrected. Too late, I'm on a time schedule. Don't most places check with patron with changes are made? One of the restaurants in Santa Fe where it is possible to meet friends and actually have a conversation with them. High ceilings dissipate the noise, and the patio is really nice in summer. Unfortunately, the quality of the food can be uneven. On the last visit I had the steak and "enchiladas". Good steak. The "enchiladas" were two rolled supermarket blue corn tortillas with a little cheese, smothering in canned enchilada sauce - easily recognized as a national brand. Mission interior, neat bar area with extra seating. Sat at the bar and the young man bartender was very nice and recommended a lovely pino noir. Three stars instead of two because of his service. Ordered the rib eye sans potatoes and opted for extra veggies. Steak was overcooked and terribly seasoned-could not finish the steak because it was just a bad piece, poorly cooked. Vegetables were mostly green beans and some asparagus and broccolini, again, undercooked and not seasoned well at all. An overall disappointment in a classic dish. Enjoyed our Tuesday evening on the patio here with the exceptional food, wine and service. We appreciated that they were dog friendly. The staff was good at maintaining the COVID-19 protocols but we worry about the survival of fine dining in Santa Fe with the next round of upcoming business restrictions. This was our first visit and we made a reservation for 7:30. They had plenty of off-street parking. Given a choice of inside dining or patio, we took advantage of the pleasant weather to sit outside. Tables were sheltered with large umbrellas and propane heaters were in place but not needed. Ice water and a bread basket were served. We had a bottle of Australian shiraz from a fairly long wine list. The arugula salad and fried calamari appetizer were shared. We requested that they split our halibut entree but the portion size was more like a full serving. For dessert, a key lime pie was available but I had to go for the chocolate cake. Cappuccino and espresso topped it off. All was very nicely done and presented. A bonus starter was a shrimp done in basalmic reduction with arugula. read more

Temps were in the mid-nineties, but umbrellas and abundant lemon water kept us cool from noon onward. Service was spot on - special thanks to Hector for being the sweetest, coolest restauranteur in the biz. Salads were fresh and hearty, and after-lunch coffee hits the spot. We made a reservation for brunch this Sunday, July 4, after reading the online brunch website menu and times. We received not one but two emails relating to and confirming that reservation for six people. We showed up on time to find the restaurant closed. What gives??? This is the second time we have made reservations and shown up to find the place locked up tight. This is unforgivable. Good thing I used my phone app to find this place because it's a little out of the way and the signage is kinda small. Nondescript on the outside, it's very pretty once inside, with a couple of dining rooms and I guess patio dining when it's warmer than when we were there a week or so ago. We went for lunch; my wife had the nicoise salad and the tuna was done perfectly to her wishes and great. I had the crab cake salad. While I would have preferred less frisee and more of a different leaf, the dressing was great as were the cakes themselves. Of the many renowned restaurants in Santa Fe, this one is consistently excellent in both the menu, the daily specials, the service and especially the ambience. If you get there early enough for lunch and the weather is pleasant, do take the opportunity to din outside. It's just so very pleasant. This is a hidden Gem with a beautiful and peaceful patio. I went for the first time Monday night and I will be back OFTEN. The food is marvelous! I had the pasta special and it melted in my mouth. They use fresh ingredients. All the desserts are homemade. They portions are more than ample. My friend had the salmon and loved it! They are also open for brunch on Sat and Sunday. It's been a while since we've treated ourselves to dinner here. I don't know why. I feel like they have some of the best service and best food in town. I had the pasta special with a few sea scallops, perfect pasta, the balance of flavors and the sauce were perfect as well. Scallops were, dare I repeat myself, perfectly cooked. My wife's filet was fantastically flavorful and also perfectly cooked. The creme brulee we shared was a bit on the liquidy side for my liking but still delicious. As a grumpy old man I feel it is my duty to always complain about how much restaurant food costs these days, but if I'm going to spend too much, I'll do it here. read more

This is one of my favorite places in town!! I eat here monthly, today I came in and was so excited to see the pork loin sandwich back on the menu!! It was my favorite when midtown opened and now it's back!! And it is as great as I remember!! I'm one happy gal!! I felt the need to show some love to midtown Bistro after seeing the reviews. I see some people that comment on how the first two times the visited it was amazing and then one experience would make them not return. I feel that's not fair. We all have bad days and we are all human. Things happen. I also feel being a business owner myself that if you have a issue take it up with the managers or owners before hurting a local business. Had an amazing, perfectly cooked Pork Chop dinner at this place. The decor is pleasent, Staff friendly and food is amazing. They served my mother a roasted Lamb that was very tender and enjoyable.
