Seattles Best Donuts! 'Voted Best in the PNW' by The Seattle Times.
lily f.

Hi yelpers it's been a while since I've posted I visit the Mightyo Ballard at least once a week this month my new favorite donut is the Matcha I like to have it alongside and iced Matcha latte. In this post, I shared a few other photos from this past year of Best Donuts in the PNW and a pic about catering. I hope you enjoy Mighty-O as much as I do. My son's favorite is still a yeast raised cream filled with chocolate on top, he likes his matcha hot!

When I frequented Mighty-O Donuts awhile back, it was usually at the Tangletown location (located between Wallingford and Green Lake). Originally, we headed down this way to an adjacent business but found it didn't open until 2pm. So we ended up next door at the Ballard Mighty-O Donuts instead. Passed on cupcakes, ice cream spot was closed, so going with doughnuts and coffee. Yes, both my brother and son were happy with this. The Bro had a vanilla nonfat latte and a peanut butter and chocolate doughnut. The Homie had a chocolate long john. Me - I had the glazed doughnut. It was a great way to wrap up our lunch get together. Service was okay, the staff seemed a bit stressed on this sunny Saturday. Maybe they had been pretty slammed earlier that morning. Doughnuts and coffee were on the pricier side, but that seems to be the new norm these days. This visit was an overall 2.5 rounded to a 3. Convenient and did the job for its hours and location. Would we or just me return...probably not.

Free street parking on Sundays in Ballard enticed me to the Mighty-O Donuts on Northwest Market Street this morning, Sunday 7 May 2023. I had just visited Bergen Place, not many places were yet open at about 7:40 a.m. on a Sunday, and since parking was free I decided to see about getting a Mighty-O Donut. On entrance, I noticed no cash was accepted at this location. The donuts were on display directly inside the entrance. Seating was abundant, but I decided to go with a donut to-go. I was helped by a friendly and knowledgable worker, and selected a lemon poppy donut. The price was $3.50 and I paid (and tipped $0.50) via credit card. When I was living in South African for a little under half a year in 2012, I met people from multiple continents that held Mighty-O Donuts in high regard. The donut lived up to the hype. It was soft and crumbly, not too dense, and had an intense lemon flavor that was not jarring to my taste buds. Glaze speckled with poppy seeds topped the cake donut in a meticulous way and paired well with the cake donut flavor. The size of the donut I found to be satisfying.

Cute place, friendly service, but the donuts were just okay. Especially for the price point, I'm not sure that I would come back. Our half dozen was $20. We tried two glazed donut os, a jam-o, chocolate raspberry, coffee bomb, and devils playground. The donuts themselves look great. The glazed were just okay. The coffee bomb wasn't necessarily giving me much coffee flavor, but it wasn't overly sweet. The jam-o wasn't very good but I did appreciate the filling (although there wasn't much of it). The chocolate raspberry was definitely the best, but not enough for me to crave it. Overall, maybe it was an off day?

A bright, airy spot for donuts and coffee which is located a short walk from Downtown Ballard -- I've always walked by this place and decided to stop in for a sweet treat. There's plenty of seating inside, and we decided to enjoy our donuts there. They have all of the classic favorites, as well as their own spin on some popular flavors. For the price point, I felt like the donuts were a touch expensive for pretty basic flavors. I got a chocolate glazed and a maple bar, but neither knocked my socks off. Either way, it was a cute spot and I would stop by again (though likely not regularly)!

My friends who live in Ballard prefer this place to Dough Boy, but I'm going to have to respectfully disagree. While this store is cute, I thought the donuts were only so so and nothing to write home about. They were kind of heavy in feeling, as the Raspberry Riot donut was kind of cake-like. I also felt that the Raspberry Riot wasn't big enough for its price. Many of the other flavors didn't appeal to me, as they were either chocolate-based or just boring (aka plain donut or glazed donut). The only other ones I'd try may be Lemon Poppyseed and French toast.

Came here with my wife and two of her friends when visiting Seattle last month on an early Sunday afternoon before we saw Black Panther: Wakanda Forever at Majestic Bay. My wife had a latte and I had a matcha latte which were amazing. They were out of most of the donuts except the Naked Cake and French Toast donuts but they were the best donuts I ever had. The staff was very friendly and the ambiance is nice and rustic. We look forward to returning and trying more of their donuts.

Have you stopped in a MIGHTY-O DONUTS shop lately to try their latest Seasonal creation? I went to their Ballard shop this morning and got my favorite Americano and tried their Banana Bread Seasonal Donut. I agree, "Banana Bread" sounds pretty plain and boring but it tasted amazing and was far from boring! I love how this donut was wonderfully cakey, moist, and had that perfect not too sweet semi-crunchy brown sugar texture and banana taste in every bite. Their donuts are surprisingly plant-based and they use the best fair trade, organic, and non-GMO ingredients which makes me feel better about myself when choosing to eat a donut, lol. SWEET ALCHEMY ICE CREAM is right next door. You can order donuts á la mode at their Ballard shop. I can imagine eating this Banana Bread donut with a scoop of ice cream (like coconut) which would make this dessert taste even better and take it to the next level. Maybe next time! Unfortunately, it was too early for ice cream. Mighty-O has 5 shops in the Seattle area. Check them out!!!

Nut allergy friendly! Vegan and nut free on everything. Amazing. I had to try it…read more I saw this cute spot on inKind after walking by it during several Seattle visits and finally decided to stop in after reading another review that mentioned that they are nut-free. Spoiler: Absolutely no regrets, I wish I had visited earlier! I ordered a six pack with a variety of their donuts and shared them with four friends, having a bit of each. I'm glad we did it this way because I don't think I could have finished some of these donuts solo. I also had a seasonal rose latte at half sweetness which was decent, but very wholesomely came with a little donut hole that was pretty good. I will say, they nailed all the flavors. If you like the flavor, probably a 4/5 donut overall. They just weren't always my cup of tea. So the scores here are for personal enjoyment more than anything - like I said, they're solid donuts. Sour Watermelon (2/5): Holy smokes, this one felt like it was punching your taste buds. It's almost confusing on how this is in a donut form. It's more like a sour patch kid. It's intense. I don't think I could solo one. Mango Tajin (3/5): Similar to the sour Watermelon, it's perplexing how this is a donut. It was a bit spicy and tangy, just as the flavor implied. Cookies & Cream (3.5/5): Get ready to get messy. It's crumbly. It's sweet. It's more like a normal donut. Matcha Strawberry (4.5/5): My favorite of the weird flavors of donuts. They really aced the matcha flavor and it's well balanced for a donut. Blueberry Fritter (2.5/5): This was pretty hyped up, but honestly I felt like the blueberry flavor was overpowered just by the sheer amount of sugar. Texture was good, it just felt so sweet. Overall, I'd definitely recommend for a fun experience. Share some different flavors! Paid via inKind with no issues.

Mighty-O Donuts seems to be one of the few vegan donut shops that actually tries to make yeast…read moredonuts - most places are cake only. We decided to drop by after eating lunch in the area for a sweet treat afterwards, then ended up picking up a whole dozen... Some notes for a couple that I tried: Maple Bar ($4.99) - Hmm.. Not that fluffy or light. Instead or being airy, it's more dense and has a kind of springy chew. The glaze is sweet and gives off a heavy maple fragrance, an indication they use real maple syrup in the glaze. Maple bars from other places are usually disgustingly sweet with basically no maple flavor - this one is sweet but more well balanced. I think the texture is definitely different from a typical yeast donut. I wonder if it's just because it more difficult to make vegan yeast donuts vs cake donuts? It's a different type of yeast donut, but still very good. (4/5) Chocolate Peanut Butter ($4.45) - Good peanut butter flavor in both the topping and glaze. I think the donut base is also peanut butter but it could be contamination from the glaze. The base isn't very sweet and is kind of almost savory in flavor. The donut is dense but not crumbly and instead very moist. Not really crusty, so not too much textural difference. I think it's baked rather than fried. Still very sweet. (4/5) Devils Playground ($4.45) - The donut base is dense with rich chocolate flavor, and coated with a chocolate ganache of just the right thickness. I hate it when donuts just have a smear of topping to make the donut look attractive, but does barely anything flavor wise. This one, on the other hand, is richly flavored. (4/5) Chocolate Raspberry ($3.65) - This is my favorite, same chocolate cake donut base as above but with bright berry notes and specks of seeds. The tangy berries do wonders to temper down some of the sweetness. (5/5) French Toast ($3.65) - My least favorite by far. Covered with peanuts (which is fine), but the cake donut base or perhaps the glaze tastes heavily earthy, like an overload of cinnamon and nutmeg. (2/5) People who expect the exact same texture as a non-vegan donut, both the cake and yeast types, will probably be disappointed. If I just think of these donuts as their own thing, they're actually quite good. There's another donut shop that I prefer down the street, but Mighty-O Donuts certainly isn't a bad choice for a sweet treat.

I tried the passionfruit creme brulee donut, and though a bit pricey ($6), it was worth the money. The top of the donut had that perfect creme brulee torched top, and the passion fruit inside was perfectly tangy, which offset the fattiness from the donut itself. I'd have to give the location a five out of five. Great staff were there making donuts when I was there. I'll start with the maple bar, which was packed full of flavor. I'll give it a four out of five: great texture, great flavor. The maple is really strong, stronger than my preference. I'll go to the buttermilk bar. The buttermilk bar was nice and dense, something great to dunk in a milk or a coffee. The Chocolate Ring, which is what they call it, I'd give it a five out of five: nice and pillowy soft in the middle, nice and had a crisp outside to it, and the chocolate was nice and rich and dark. Of course, you have the classic raised donut, which I had two of. Nice and fluffy in the middle, nice thin layer of glaze on the outside, pillowy soft, definitely a five out of five. When I came back from my cruise to Alaska, I went back to Voodoo Doughnut to get more of the classic raised donut and the Chocolate Ring. Definitely a great donut. If you haven't been, you should go; you have lots of unique choices. I went for some of the classics because I knew I couldn't go wrong with them, and I wasn't disappointed at all.

I am giving two stars because the shop is cute and the server was nice. But sadly, the donuts are no good. What happened to you, Voodoo????
