I don't understand what is up with all of the negative reviews on here! Miguels Jr is by far my number 1 go to when I'm craving Mexican food. Now I'm probably going to be a little biased since I grew up in Corona. But honestly it tastes just as amazing at the Costa Mesa location. I highly recommend going for either an Original burrito or Bean Rice and Cheese if you're a first timer. One of my other favorites are their chicken taquitos and soft chicken tacos. If you think they don't serve chicken tacos think again because they do! All you have to say is you want a chicken taco with NO OIL and Bam there it is! The hot sauce is the perfect sauce to accompany the fresh food the serve! Plus they always hook it up in the drive thru when I get it to go. Not to mention the staff is always welcoming and inviting every time I go there! I can't believe people are comparing it to Taco Bell. Miguels is way better, fresher and just as affordable. Plus at least you know you're getting meat at Miguels which is probably why the cost is a tad higher. So if you're new to the area give it a shot! You will not regret your decision! read more

I was really curious about this place because so many of my friends from the IE raved about this place. I learned people from Corona don't really know good Mexican. This place is just plain bland. First visit I got a beef taco, a chicken taco and a cheese quesadilla. Even their so-called "famous" hot sauce couldn't add flavor to the tacos and the quesadilla barely had any cheese. The "famous" hot sauce must be famous for how bland it is. Second visit (with a curious friend) I tried the 3 taquitos combo. The refried beans tasted like paste. They really need to offer black beans or some other side. Refried beans are so 70's. The rice had no flavor at all - this time I tried the verde sauce to spice things up - no luck. The taquitos were okay, not great, but the "avocado" sauce they come with had no avocado flavor at all. My friend got the garbage burrito and had the same experience - bland. With so many great Mexican fast restaurants in eastside Costa Mesa I'm not sure how they can compete with their bland food. Even the Del Taco across the street has more flavor and sauce that's actually spicy. One star for friendliness and one star for style and cleanliness. I was hoping for so much more. read more

I've been eating here for a few years now and the quality of the food and service has been consistently good. Not too greasy and the ingredients are fresh and delicious. I've had literally everything on the menu and enjoyed every dish. My favorite is the bean, rice, and cheese burrito with their chicken, pork, or steak. The tortillas are yummy with the perfect texture and bite. They are generous with their salsa and my only complaints are I wish their drive-thru was open for late night food runs and their guacamole could use some work - I think it has some dairy in it and I'm not a big fan of dairy on my guacamole. The staff working there are friendly and professional and keep the place clean and the food hot and yummy. Really can't beat it for some regular, no frills Mexican food for a few bucks. If you read "About Me" on yelp you will see that a bean and cheese burrito would be my choice for a last meal. So here is a review on their bean and cheese burrito alone: I give their Bean and Cheese burrito a 7.5 out of 10. I deduct points immediately for their tortilla. A little on the dry and papery side with too much dry flour falling off like dust. It wasn't bad, just room for improvement. The bean to cheese ratio is almost perfect. I could taste cheese (orange cheddar) in almost every bite. The beans themselves had a great creamy consistency like good authentic refrieds should have. Finally it is very important for a hand held food item like a burrito to remain structurally sound from first to last bite. Since a bean and cheese burrito has more of a liquid consistency than most burrito fillings it is easy to overstuff. This is where Miguels Jr.'s portion generosity impedes on the integrity of the burrito's structure. All in all a great bean and cheese burrito. I will be back here just for this item alone. I haven't found a better bean and cheese in the area since I moved here. I may sound crazy to be doing an in depth review about a single menu item. But honestly there isn't a more harmonious marriage of three ingredients in my hungry, i mean humble opinion. But for some reason so many places get this simple dish so wrong. honestly i used to come here a lot. but i went today, 1/17/22 and asked for an El Potato burrito w chili verde pork and a carne asada burrito w rice. and they gave me two bean and cheese burrito with a pinch of steak..hmm i'm not one to trip about the price of food but i paid 22$ for two burritos worth maybe 3$ each...and theeen, their chips were stale and the guac was brown.. messing up my order by a long shot annnnd your chips and guac were trash, like whaat??! it's not that hard guys...you work drive thru..‍ read more

Finally Miguel's Jr has crossed behind the conservative Orange Curtain! Miguel's Jr is a fixture in the IE.... drive thru lines are still 20 cars deep at many times at their Corona locations. Remember people......... this is fast food. Don't compare it to your favorite Mexican restaurant!! With that said, their bean, rice and cheese burrito is great!! My biggest complaint is that they charge 99 cents for extra cheese on a $2.29 burrito!! Can you say "rip off"!?! Also like the shredded beef tacos! First things first!! Eduardo & Christian are the best....thank you guys for your super service!! Actually, everyone here rocks!!! Excellent service! Everything is fresh and they always get my funky orders right.....cheese quesadilla with potatoes! So good!! Not sure what addictive spices they braise those potatoes in but they are delicious!! Miguel's Jr is my comfort food. I'll eat anything on the menu, but my go to orders are The Bean & Cheese, El Potato, and Garbage. I usually go with chicken as my meat choice, but the pork and beef are good as well. One thing to know about this place is that it's NOT an "authentic" hole in the wall greasey spot. While those places are great in their own right, just make sure you have the right expectations coming in. Think of it as a very high quality fast food. Not Great but Not bad? So I've only visited this location once. This location looks very appealing on the outside, but something about fast causal Mexican food that feels wrong. Drive thru was quick and fast. Customer service really good and friendly. The food portions were small. I bought a meal - 2 hard tacos and beans and rice. The rice was a bit greasy but the veggies and color of the tacos were good. Again, if I was hungry I may try this place again, but for my money it wasn't a first stop. read more

I don't understand all of the bad reviews on here. So glad there is finally a location in Orange County and I can't believe I just noticed it. Obviously this is a fast food place so if you're looking for authentic Mexican food, you're not going to get it here. But, Miguel's beats Taco Bell or Del Taco by FAR. The nachos with carnitas were SO good. And I love guacamole, you can't get guac from Taco Bell or del taco but you can at Miguel's :) And the rice, bean, and cheese burrito is delicious! After my bad experience with Baja Fish Taco I went to Miguel's Jr. I was quoted $13.65. When I got to the window it was now $18 and change. Now I'm irritated, so I asked the cashier about the price change and he said, "Oh yeah, I was looking at the wrong order you don't need to get super mean". Mean? I just asked why I was getting over charged! Basically, restaurants now days only care about getting your money and "F" any service. The hired help is no help! If you left without getting all of your food too bad, if you leave without paying for all of your food, they'll probably call the law. Don't fool yourself...This is not authentic Mexican food. Beans from a can, carne asada that doesn't have much flavor and the service is poor. Drive thru convenance is good but the people working there act like your bothering them when making simple requests. Slightly higher quality and more authentic than Del Taco but not much more. Your better off going to a small locally owned authentic Mexican place (hole in the wall) that will have more authentic and less processed food. I can see why other people put this place in the same category as Del/Bell, but honestly there's a place for those kind of restaurants too, and Miguel's Jr is doing something right. I've never seen such friendly and courteous staff who really made me feel welcome, and gave warm, genuine smiles the whole time I was there. The menu had pretty few things on it, but it worked out the way it does at In-n-Out; theres about a dozen things you can order and they seem to cover a good amount of ground between them. Unfortunately, it wasnt very vegetarian/pescetarian friendly, since meat seemed to be an integral part of most of their items, and there werent any seafood options. That would probably be my only complaint. Yeah it wasnt the greasy deliciousness you get when you go to GreatMex by the pier, but it was refined, simple, and I had no real complaints. This restaurant has food I did not like at all, and I'm pretty easy to please, see my other reviews for reference. I had taquitos, rice beans and guacamole. The taquitos were the frozen type (about as Big around as a finger) with the green sauce that is usually in the plastic bag inside the inexpensive frozen food section of the grocery store, not guacamole. They were awful. The beans were very runny and not flavorful. The rice was ok, not good. The only good part of my meal was they had cherry Coca-Cola. I barely ate. I actually wanted to rinse my mouth to rid my self from the taste residue on my tongue. The employees were fine, nothing special, nothing bad. They did their job, nothing more or less. I expected to get sick, I'm sure glad I didn't. I'd rather go without lunch than eat here again. read more

The carne asada burrito tasted ok, but it was really small for what I paid for. A chipotle burrito is twice the size and tastes 2x as good. The first time I came here I was super hungover and wanted a breakfast burrito. Guess what? They dont have breakfast burritos! What kind of mexican food place doesnt have breakfast burritos?! So anyhow, I ordered the chile verde burrito, it wasnt bad.Who knows, maybe I was just so hungover that anything would have tasted good?! It was good enough to go back... So today I went and figured I'd try a couple tacos, what could go wrong? Big mistake. The tacos were ample size, however they were boring and bland. As I ate them a red colored liquid dripped out the back of them....gross! I figured I may be able to make them eatable by pouring copius amounts of salsa on them....what a waste of time that was. There's nothing like some good Mexican grub in the OC....for cheap! Miguel Jr. offers a lot of promos if you sign up for their text message service. But be careful...you'll need to pick up a card for the discount in order to redeem the discount next time you go. The text message alone won't offer the discount. It's more of a reminder to go back in. Last time I was there, no one told us about the card system. But we did receive the text message. They were nice enough to honor the "free burrito" special. Next time, we get a dollar off. The rice here is not vegetarian. The bean and cheese is legit. But will explode on your plate. Overall, good vibes for hitting that Mexican food craving. read more

Seeing these pop up over Orange County I really didnt think to much of it. I figured just another chain of Mexican food in a area that is flooded with fantastic taquerias and restaurants. Would Miguel's stand out? Well unfortunately no, it really doesn't. I am going to just chalk this up as another spot where you need the salsa to add flavor to your food. I came here for lunch and got the pork Garbage Burrito. Now I like a burrito with the works in it. Lettuce, cheese, tomato, sour cream they can all party rock in my burrito. But when I started eating it, I was left thinking....where was the flavor?? It was just kind of bland and I had to douse it in salsa to add any type of kick to it. It was disappointing needless to say because carnitas is supposed to pack a whole mess of flavor to your face. Maybe I will give it another try, but there are just too many good spots that I know of here in Orange County. I used to work out in Corona and almost every Friday my coworkers and I would go to Miguel's for their BRCs. I've been working in Irvine for the last few years and miss Miguel's so much. So much that instead of driving up the 5 fwy from a weekend in San Diego, we'd drive up the 15 fwy so we can stop at Miguel's at the Ontario exit, order like 5 of them (to eat when we get home for lunch and for dinner later that night). I know crazy... Crazy for BRCs! Anyway, went last night to the soft opening at Costa Mesa. It was packed! When we drove up, they were passing out vouchers for a free entree and drink for that night. What did I get...a BRC of course. But the gentleman at the register said I can get anything in it and suggested sour cream and guacamole. YUMMM!!! The burrito is already humongous but adding these items made it even more ginormous and delicious. I don't know if I'll always add these items, as I am a purist with my BRC and original hot sauce, but if I want to switch it up I know what's good. My husband got the carne asada garbage burrito which he really enjoyed too. The employees were super nice and working as quickly as they could. I'm excited to go back when it officially opens (they said maybe this Thursday the 25th) but my hips are saying keep the visits to special occasions and treats. :) hehe Enjoy! read more

Tried this place a few times. Each times the food was just ok. Nothing spectacular. Today I went again for something easy. Should have gone to Baja Fresh. At Miguel's, you pay a lot for the carne asada burrito and it has no flavor and is chewy. The "hot" salsa.....is lacking heat and flavor. The key with Miguel's Jr is to keep it simple. Don't order anything fancy. Stick with the tacos and you will be happy. Street or regular - they are both delicious. The problem with anything else is that the cheese and beans dominate and make it into one big soggy mess. It also starts to overpower the seasonings on the meats and delicious hot cause. (Pinto beans always do that, in my opinion - but they become especially forceful one they are refried!) Get them on the side. One note... the food here is GREASY and SALTY. I came here for lunch at the recommendation of my friend. I thought I would visit the new hot spot in Newport Beach. I have to say, the food is of great quality. If you are not calorie conscious, then this is the place for you. It reminded me of the Albertos chain restaurants that are littered around orange county. I had the enchiladas and guacamole. My friend had the chicken tacos with rice and beans. It's good, just not what I was expecting in Newport Beach. If you are a carnivore and aren't counting calories, dive right in. On Saturday night we ordered 2 Chile Verde Pork burritos, they were small but fat. Upon arriving at home my burrito had "3 pieces of pork with no Chile Verde sauce" to speak of. My girlfriends burrito had 4 pieces of pork, no Chile Verde sauce. But there was and exorbitant amount of rice and beans, WTH! Service was slow but friendly enough for having teenagers running running the show. I don't care how long this place has been around or that they started in the Inland Empire (blank) year ago. It doesn't matter. Their food is no good. Below average. Like someone already said, sheep!! Maybe it was once good many years ago before they started cutting corners changing things. But the same goes for Mc Donalds. Maybe when they first started it was good , but now it just has no flavor. I have to give them one thing. I like their service in there. Miguel's is awesome. It gave me a whole new experience to Mexican fast food. Everything is different when it comes to this restaurant. The staff is top of the line smiling and eager to provide the best service. Always friendly and says thank you, like they truly mean it. It's almost as if Miguel's broke the bad stigma of Mexican fast food service. Perfect orders, 100% clear communication, clean, brand new facility and no graffiti on tables or restrooms! Only suggestion is for them to declare their current sauce as mild and make a spicier one for people like me who drink Tapatio like its going out of style. FIVE STARS ALL THE WAY! Thank God they replaced the Taco Bell that was wasting space with their fake meat and beans. Now we are lucky to have Quality mexican food for an outstanding price. If trying Miguels for the first time I recommend sticking to their burritos. If you are a burrito lover like me than you will definitely be pleased. My favorites are actually the most simple options on the menu: Bean and Cheese Burrito, Bean Rice and Cheese, Bean Cheese and Potato.. If you are feeling a little frisky go ahead and get it wet. The enchilada sauce and cheese they add on top will give you the pleasure your mouth deserves. It hurts to see people give harsh reviews on this place. Like Kris P said below, it is not SALSA it is HOT SAUCE. A great addition to add to your item. If you are looking for Authentic Mexican food then go to a taco hut in Costa Mesa. OK...I lived in Corona/Norco area for 20 years. Love Miguel's... Not because it's authentic Mexican food or anything, but because it's yummy Americanized Mexican Food! So...we move to Costa Mesa and I say, the only thing I will miss from CoronaNorco is Miguel's! Well, low and behold, what is right down the street.... SCORE!...or so I thought... Not quite sure where they are famous, but if so whoever made them famous has obviously not been out much.
