The good news, the place is clean. That is about it for me. Maybe I am spoiled on the more tex-mex or the lighter Mexican flair but Miguel's Jr. left little to be desired. I heard from friends this is the go to place in the IE. Should have stayed there. I got the signature burrito w/ the Chile Verde and a side of chips. I was skeptical on the hot (signature) salsa but it actually was good. Not too hot, not vinegary (like Tobasco), it had good flavor. I needed it. The chips were a huge disappointment. How do you screw up chips. There was no flavor. The burrito was fat but it was loaded w/ rice and beans. Not a lot of meat... it was more of a bean, cheese and rice burrito. That could have been fine but the beans seemed bland, no flavor, and that appears to be the theme here. No flavor. I dumped the chips (a little salt would have been nice) and doused the burrito with the salsa, which was too bad because I wanted to really taste the Chile Verde. I saw one review stating this place is better than Taco Bell, sorry, at least Taco Bell and Del Taco have flavor. With so many Mexican restaurants in the area (Baja Fish Tacos is right next store) you have to stand out, and unfortunately Miguel's stood out for the wrong reason. read more

It is just okay. I went there on their grand opening and we got free dinner. Every time we pass by there, there is no one at their drive thru or dining in. I remember when it was Taco Bell, it was cranking then with long lines and parking lot was always full. It's diagonal from Del taco so most people hit up that place first. I am not sure if I will try Miguel's Jr again unless they modify their pricing to more affordable. I wonder how long they will stay in business for? Quick service and pretty good Mexican food. For $8 I got the combo enchilada and taco plate with rice, beans, and a large drink. It was my first time trying this place and I would definitely go back again. I got the chicken taco and the shredded beef enchilada. Both were good quality meat and tasted fresh and had a good amount of flavor, but not overwhelming. So I went here for the first time after a night out with friends. I was told the good was amazing here. I ordered a two different burritos but wanted a taco on a flour tortilla. I was told this wasn't an option but I asked if I could just add two carne asada tacos to one flour tortilla and the girl at the window told me she could make that happen for me. She handed me and my friend out food and we went back to the house only to find that she gave us 2 burritos and 3 rolls of flour tortillas wrapped in aluminum. Normally I'd be cool with a botched order but she was accurate when she charged me an additional $10 (well, close to it.) The good was decent but being over charged for damn bear 10% of my order ensures that I won't be coming back here. Bean and cheese burrito is pretty thick. A lot of it falls out of the burrito so they should work on the wrapping technique a little bit. I actually feel like it would be even better if the ratio of beans and cheese was a little less so that you can eat the burrito without a whole bunch of it oozing out. Headed here to pick up lunch for myself and some coworkers. We only get a half hour break so I tried to place the order for pick-up, but they don't do phone orders. Luckily the service was quick, but the prices were way different from what we expected. If you are checking the menu pics on Yelp keep in mind that they are from over 5 years ago, and not from this location. Add $2-$3 on anything you see there. Burritos were decent, (carne asada garbage burrito, and El potato) but not for the price. Avoid the taquitos! They came with this nasty neon green powder made guacamole. read more

Yep, it's super bland Mexican food but I liked it anyway. I got a Miguel Jr Original burrito. It was huge, but simple: tortilla + beans + cheese + roast beef. Neither the meat nor beans are seasoned. I admit if I had not opted for 2 containers of hot sauce, I would have had to throw my burrito away. (And I should have gotten 3 or 4 containers.) I really liked that the beans were hot and the beef was actual shredded beef. What bummed me out is that none of the burritos are offered with veggies--no lettuce, tomatoes or even onions. I'm not sure if I'd come back because there are several other choices for Mexican fast food in the area that offer more flavorful options (and veggies!). read more

Well kids, I was pretty surprised to hear that Miguel's Jr was opening a location in Costa Mesa. The company is a Corona based business that stayed pretty local for years, but it seems that in the last 2-3 years, they have been busy growing. I'm going to be moving soon, out to OC, and I was thinking my trips to Miguel's would be few and far between but hey.. I can make it to Costa Mesa, or their soon opening Orange location (yay), every so often. The Fontana location was originally located by FoHi, my HS, and needless to say, it was the spot to run to for lunch. Alright, let's talk about the food: I'm a fan of the shredded beef here. it has a ton of flavor. I like it in the garbage burrito, or the potato burrito, and the tacos. Beans; their beans are good. They aren't canned. I can't eat canned beans, totally gross me out, so bonus/plus for real beans. Rice, could use a little more flavor, but good. Enchiladas; I love their enchilada sauce. It has tomato in it, which tones down the crazy chile powder flavor of most sauces. I will go and just buy a container of the enchilada sauce, heads up though, it's crazy oily... like seriously oily.. Location: this is by far their nicest location. The fireplace outside the entrance is nice. I don't know when they turn it on, but I bet it looks pretty. read more

I love the BRC. Love with the capital L. Everything about the burrito. I have not tried anything else at any of the Miguels. The rice is delicious and the beans are flavorful and the perfect thickness for a burrito. I always add fresh cilantro and onions from the salsa bar. I stopped off here as I was travelling, and I usually stop off at a Pollo Loco north of Los Angeles when I m headed north to visit family, but I was hungry and it was 90 minutes away. I can't begin to explain how disappointed I was in the "taco plate". For about $12 dollars after taxes, I was served two tiny tacos, wrapped in foil and dropped on the plastic tray, next to a plastic plate of rice and beans. Now the food itself was not terrible, mediocre at best, but it was a pitiful amount of food. It was barely a snack, and not a meal. I wound up having to stop again to eat further north, as the "meal" was a very small serving and very overpriced. If you are looking for a cheap meal, go elsewhere. You will get a lot more for your money elsewhere. read more

Ordered a carne asada burrito and it was pretty bland. Nothing spectacular. There was definitely more rice and beans than meat. For the prices they charge(a little spendy), I would expect something better. The restaurant is nice but from now on I will drive past Miguel Jr and hit up Baja fish tacos which happens to be right next door. read more

Absolutely deplorable salad, I went here, thinking it was going to be better than taco bell -boy! was I so wrong! I asked for a tostada salad no meat, for starters the picture showed a tostada you know the bowl shaped one? with lettuce rice and beans, when they gave it to me NO TOSTADA and the lettuce was frozen, it was supposed to have beans, this were a thin super layer in one side, and everything was absolutely cold, so disgusting, and there were a couple of chips to justify its tostada name! super expensive $10 for the salad and the soda fountain drink, the only thing that was good was the fountain drink, I would never ever going to this place, stay away, it sucks! read more

This is basically the email that I sent their corporate office: I just want you guys to know that on our visit last night to Miguel's in Costa Mesa, the employee taking our order was EXTREMELY rude to us. It wasn't a busy night in there and it was my first time going in there. I was taking a look at the menu thoroughly before I decided what to order. When I asked "how big are your enchiladas?" (simple question, and I was very polite when I asked), the employee responded with "how big are our enchiladas??????" with a very bad attitude. She was asking as if all enchiladas are one size only in the entire planet. It was a simple question. Anyway, she answered with an attitude and the way she was talking to me was just demeaning. She was even rolling her eyes at me, no smile. She didn't even try to help me decide on what to order and I was having a hard time figuring out what I wanted. Honestly, no one else was in line and so I figured I can take my time deciding on what to order. Anyway, I just want you guys to know how you have an employee that treated me like a crazy person and she was extremely rude. We came in around 7:45p/8pm. I hope your team doesn't tolerate employees treating customers like that. It's really just kinda meh. I love mexican food with all of my heart, and this place was nothing to write home about. The staff was friendly and helpful, but the food just wasn't very fresh. They don't make much on site, a lot of it comes pre-made from their suppliers. Consequently, they don't have any allergy information on hand. They couldn't tell me if any of their items were gluten free or not, which is a big thumbs down for me. The guacamole is thin and runny... Based on the wet style BRC alone I'd give this place 5 stars, but there's something lacking that I just can't put a finger on. Maybe its the lack of fixings on the shredded beef tacos, and the price. At $2.34 i'd expect a fat taco filled with tangy sour cream, creamy guac, fresh tomatoes, and a hefty serving of meat, but I got none of that. Although good, I was still hungry. Back to the wet style BRC burrito my GOD, if I could eat one every day I would, but something that good HAS to be bad for u, lol. I have yet to try their other burritos, because I'm a creature of habit, but I def wna give the garbage burrito, and the chili Verde dinner plate a try. My mouths watering just thinking about it. Normally I the shredded beef burrito , last week I had the garbage burrito , today was the breakfast burrito . Regret how overpriced my piggy burrito was . It was about 50% potato , 30% egg and 20% pork . Pork was on one side of the burrito so most of the time it was just Potatoe with a hint of egg and cheese . Salty, salty, over salty, the chili rellano, the carne Asada tacos, the beans.. so much salt on the chili rellano I was unable to eat it. We've tried this place on and off since they opened. We should just give up as their food is not as authentic as they state. Fresh avocado is so blended down its runny. Maybe it comes from a large container you can buy at Smart & Final. That would certainly explain the thinness. Prices are not so cheap, one taco is hitting the 4.00 mark. Cost 20.00 for two people having a chili rellano, 2 tacos, side of rice, side of beans.
