TL;DR - if you want the closest thing to NY pizza in OC, this is it. Best bang for buck ez. I've been looking for some really good NY style pizza in the OC area and most of the times have been relatively disappointed as no place seems to be able to get it quite right. I saw that they only open 2 days a week but that also made me think this guy has to know what he's doing if he's willing to only do 2 days. Well, lemme just say this.... Mike's gets it right. Flavor, texture, thinness and dough are all on point. Simplicity is key here, you choose cheese or pep. Both are absolutely delicious. Lots of places make pep taste too salty, but balance is really good here. If there is any thing I could suggest it would be wanting just a tiny bit more tomato sauce, but it's so minor compared to the major pitfalls of many other pizza joints. They have a 2 pie max for quality control for takeout as it seems like he hand-makes each pizza to order, and although might be unfortunate for large parties for smaller gatherings should be enough! For context, 2 large pizzas was about $45 and could easily feed like 5-6 people (I was able to feed 8). So honestly very budget friendly compared to some other ones I've tried that were $30+ for a single pizza (and didn't even taste as good). Definitely a spot I need to come back to and try in-person. Although I'm sad I can only do Fridays or Saturdays, I'd prefer consistency and quality over quality especially as a pizza lover. So.... Here's to my go-to pizza spot on Fri/Sat! read more

He has this genuine vibe about his work ethic and almost seems like he is trying to learn more about himself through the repeated process of his hand produced art of pizza. I can tell he studies or he himself is a big fan or Pizza or the art of pizza. What is the art of pizza? Simple but not simple. Stupid simple but crazy not simple. If you really get into it, you can almost communicate with the dough and see how every hour the chemistry between the yeast and flour creates different tone and frequency. Almost like a music. Hands down one of my favorite pizza spots. Mike's Firestone Pizza absolutely delivers. The crust is thin but has no flop at all, which is exactly how it should be. Perfect structure, easy to eat, and incredibly satisfying. The char on the undercarriage is spot on--beautifully cooked with just the right amount of crisp and flavor. You can tell they really know what they're doing with their oven and dough. On top of that, the service is great--friendly, welcoming, and efficient, which makes the whole experience even better. Probably have to start this by saying I just got back from a pizza tour in New Haven, CT and NYC. So my pallet had high expectations. I gave this pizza a 7.1 on my scale. Pretty solid. Definitely a NY style, and I appreciated the CT cut. It was a little too floppy in my opinion. And I think the sauce was not my favorite. I will say I appreciate Mikes small business and how serious he is about it. I talked with an employee and could tell they really care about what they do. He compared their pizza to Two Saucy Broads just down the street, which I've had before. And I would totally agree. Just about the same. Not spectacular but very solid pies. This pizza is very, very good. All the ingredients are top tier. The dough is excellent! I like the owner. He's a really nice guy and you always get a warm greeting from him. TIP: The ingredients are so good that it makes reheating this pizza taste fresh after refrigeration. So refrigerate your leftovers. This killer pizza spot and bar are hidden in the restaurant formerly known as Ziings. Mike and his bartender give friendly and fun service at astoundingly affordable prices. The pizza is some of the closest to NY style we've found, and is the perfect mid-evening stop to pad your stomach for some late night festivities. It's a bit of a bummer that you can only get pizza during a small window (5-9 on Friday and Saturday), but that makes it a bit more special. As Mike is working solo with his Firestone oven, don't expect "hot n ready" pizzas--the wait is well worth it and the cheap drinks from the bar will hold you over just fine during the wait. Great pizza at a great price! I did have to wait a while for it (45 minutes or so), but that was mostly on me (walk in on a Friday night) and the staff warned me about the wait before I ordered. A.) it was worth the wait and B.) they have a full bar, so there are worse places to wait for a pie. I'm sure you can call in your order and avoid the wait. The toppings were limited to cheese and pepperoni, but that works when the ingredients are top quality, which these are. I'm sure the owner can get his hands on a bunch of mediocre toppings, I respect that he only serves items that are up to his standards. TLDR: Don't waste your time here, just go somewhere else. Unless you have an hour to burn for a single pizza. Walked in and it was pretty empty. I ended up ordering in the back and ordered a pepperoni pizza. They only had two toppings. Pepperoni and cheese. I ordered the 10 inch and thought I would get it soon since it's a smaller pizza and it's just pepperoni. Not only that but there was barely anyone there. I ordered before 4 other gentlemen and they got their order before me. After about 30 minutes of waiting I asked the same person who I ordered from, "how much longer until the pizza is done? It's been half an hour already?" And they responded with an attitude, "well can't you see there's other before you so about another 10 minutes" After that I decided to walk out and the thought it wasn't worth the wait. We got a pepperoni pizza to go from Mike's Firestone Pizza a couple of weeks ago. Although we are pizza snobs from New Yawk, we actually enjoyed it. The cheese, sauce and especially the dough were very reminiscent of pies back home. It was a good size and had plenty of pepperoni. We will definitely return.
