Came back again on another trip and had to stop by Mike's Pastry once again! Before you go, make sure you have cash (it is cash only). The inside is very simple - just a large area to order your pastries and go. It gets super busy in here and it's often filled with people waiting in line. The people behind the counter are quick to pack your order and are always friendly. The pastries have never disappointed. The Neapolitan was a very good, true pastry like the ones I get in New York. The icing is sweet, the layers were crunchy, and the filling was the perfect amount.
Pastry store with lots of options and flavors! Cash only. When you walk in you can see cases of pastries and workers ready to take your order. The box it up for you and tie it up after asking if you want some powdered sugar to top on your pastries. The pistachio cannoli had great texture. First bite had all the pistachio pieces. The middle part was not too sweet with a slightly crisp crust wrapping it. The Boston cream slice was ok. Was not for me texture wise but did like the chocolate on top.
When we were at Harvard we saw Mike's Pastry and I thought about stopping in to buy cannoli but I didn't because we were planning to go to Paul Revere's house in North End and this Mike's Pastry location is a couple of blocks away. If I had gone to the Harvard location I would have been in and out in 5-10 minutes. That was not the case at the North End location but in fairness it was Friday night and around the time people want dessert. The North End location had four lines from the counter to the door with the line out the door. They take cash only but while you wait you have plenty of time to decide on what you actually want to get. They have 10+ cannoli flavors plus many other pastries. We opted for a pistachio cannoli and a amaretto cannoli. The cannoli were twice the size of what I was anticipating so we split one on Friday and split the other on Saturday. If I went back I'd get the amaretto again. The pistachio was mostly ricotta tasting. If you go, go early and bring cash!
Went to Mike's Pastry while in the North End since it's one of the most well-known spots for cannoli and desserts. The line moved decently fast and there are a lot of options to choose from. The cannoli was good--filling was creamy and fresh--but I wish they had smaller sizes available. It felt a bit heavy finishing a full-sized one. Solid experience overall, just would've preferred a mini option.
Mike's Pastry is worth trying, especially if you're visiting Boston for the first time. When we arrived, the line was out the door, but don't let that discourage you. It moved fast! One thing we didn't realize beforehand is that it's cash only, so be prepared. Thankfully, there was an ATM nearby so we were able to get cash. We tried the lobster tail, chocolate chip cannoli, Boston cream puff, and Florentine cannoli. The Florentine was my favorite!
This spot is THE spot to grab a cannoli. My wife is from NY and is part Italian so she required a cannoli and after passing hundreds of people carrying Mike's Pastry boxes around the decision was easy. I've never been a fan of cannoli but I thought I might as well try just one more to see if I could be swayed. This place was packed, however they had many lines to order and pay. The staff were on their A game even though it was loud and busy. We were in and out in no time.I ordered the caramel pecan and it was delicious. The shell was nice and flaky and the filling was delicious. If I were choosing a dessert a cannoli still wouldn't be my go to m, however Mike's has definitely changed my opinion of them.
Okay, after returning to Boston, I managed to try the actual Mike's (and its rival across the street, Modern). The huge lines seem intimidating, but they go by quite quickly, and it spreads into 3 separate lines inside. Bear in mind they are CASH ONLY. They do box your orders nicely with their iconic string. :) Although they're known for their cannoli, you can also order other pastries like eclairs, whoopie pies, brownies, cheesecakturnovers, florentines, scones, croissants, cookies, and even Dubai chocolate. Their pastry variety is endless. I ordered the Mint chip and Pistachio cannoli. Both were decadent but not too heavy or sweet. One downside is that I felt they were a bit drier than Modern, but otherwise comparable. Each was $8, although you can get "kits" for cheaper (some flavors like Dubai chocolate are more expensive). I'd love to come back and try the rest of their cannolis and pastries!
We showed up on a Wednesday around 3:30 pm there was a little line but it went fast. I already knew I wanted the pistachio. Only got one cost $8 in cash. No seating inside it's take and go. The box and string are a nice touch. Found it to be delicious and a good size . I would have given this closer to 4 stars because the $8 seems a little steep. But the packaging alone might cost $2. It is popular and famous for a reason
Mike's vs Modern is to cannoli's what Pat's and Geno's is to cheesesteaks in Philly. We got here on a Thursday around 2pm and we walked right up to the counter. The lady friend wasn't ready since she had heard there would be a long line before we arrived. The lady at the counter was operating as if they were really busy hurrying us along. We ordered a Florentine with Espresso filling and a traditional cannoli from the Soup Nazi then took them to the park to eat. I guess she would be a Cannoli Fascist in this example...anyway back on track. The Florentine is not for me. Too dense and too sweet since it's a rolled out almond cookie made into the shell. The espresso filling was good despite me not being a coffee fan. The traditional rolled in chocolate chips is where it's at! Perfect texture, not too sweet but sweet enough. Absolutely delicious. Get here early on a weekday if possible but be prepared to order or "No cannoli for you! 1 month!"
Maybe this place is just a tourist trap, but I dropped by because I heard such great things about it. I guess I lucked out because when I went (Wednesday, around 3 PM), there was virtually no line. I heard it can get super busy, so beware. This place is cash only, and the service is really straight-to-the-point. I guess they just want people in and out quickly. There's not really anywhere you can sit, so definitely just get what you want and go. The bakery itself is kept very simple and minimal. Sweets are displayed behind the glass, and there are plenty of signs along the wall that display what they have to offer. There were a lot of different goodies, but I noticed that people really only ordered the cannolis. I got a singular chocolate chip cannoli, and I think it really threw the person helping me off that I only got one to try. Pastries are packaged in a nice blue box and securely tied with a long string. The cannoli itself tasted pretty nice, but I wish there were more chocolate chips other than the ones that coated the areas of visible filling. I liked that the shell was crunchy and flaky. I can't say much because this was my first time having a cannoli, so I have no point of comparison. Not sure if I can eat a lot of it in one sitting.
My review is not on the cannolis as I don't like cannoli and didn't get any here. So maybe the cannolis are the way to go at Mike's. During my visit, there was only a short line. I perused all the offerings behind the case and couldn't find anything that called my name. Everything looked dry and unappetizing TBH. There were some interesting things that I have never seen before like an angry Easter Lamb (large for $25, small for $15). The marzipan fruit looks super cute, but not something I would want to eat. My friend purchased a lemon bar and a raspberry stick. She offered me some and I tried both. I didn't like either one. The pastry dough was dry and the filling was very artificial tasting. I don't get the hype.
After hearing amazing things about this place, we decided to try it. We didn't realize it's cash only but thankfully I had a $20 on me, so keep that in mind. It was very busy but the line moved pretty quickly. I had every intention on getting a cannoli but once I saw the display case, I knew I needed the Oreo brownie cheesecake. It was absolutely amazing! I was in heaven eating that! My boyfriend did get the chocolate mousse cannoli and enjoyed it. I tried a bite and it wasn't for me. However, I am not the biggest cannoli person. All of their desserts looked amazing so make sure to bring lots of cash!

The last time I was here was over a decade ago. People were packed into the store like sardines and when I got to the front of the line, I was met by a cranky lady that asked me what I wanted. I asked if she had any recommendations and she gave me a displeased look and said "everything is good." Wow have things changed. There are still quite a few people jammed into the store, but it does seem a bit more organized. The cranky ladies have been replaced with pleasant and friendly staff. We got a pistachio cannoli and a peanut butter cannoli. Both were great, but I have to give it up to the peanut butter one. The bottom was coated in chocolate, so it tasted like a ricotta relative to a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup. Bring your cash as they're cash only. Cannolis are $7 a piece. Listen, I don't begrudge a successful business that earns its reputation to the point where people are willing to wait in an excruciatingly long line. However, I do despise people who rudely cut ahead of me when the line subdivides into separate queues. A South Asian family of five did just that, and my only pleasure was derived when a couple of North End bros snapped at them. Regardless, waiting a half-hour gave me time to peruse Google. I thought it would save time to identify what were deemed the best of Mike's cannolis. However, the veteran server at the counter didn't appear to be in a hurry as she chatted freely with the neighborhood regulars in front of us. Of course, she sped up the moment I approached the counter, and her warmth suddenly left the building. She bundled our order and off we went. Now the best part of the experience. We found a playground hidden in an alleyway called Cutillo Park. There was a vacant picnic table where we enjoyed our purchases. Before flying out to Boston from Chicago, a coworker told me I had to check out Mike's Pastry--and I'm glad I made the stop! First things first: CASH ONLY. Definitely something to know ahead of time. I saw quite a few people turn around once they found out, so plan accordingly. The shop itself is adorable and has that classic, old-school bakery feel. Ordering was pretty straightforward despite the crowds. I grabbed a Boston cream pie and the Florentine cannoli. The Boston cream pie was decent. The cake and the filling were solid, but the frosting had a strange texture that didn't quite work for me. That said, the Florentine cannoli? Absolutely bomb. Perfectly crunchy shell, not-too-sweet filling--just so good. Mike's definitely draws a bigger crowd than Bova's, but honestly, both are worth visiting. If you're in Boston on a dessert mission, make room for both on your list. read more

Wow, I feel so lucky that we were able to stroll into Mike's pastry and pick up a pistachio cannoli within two minutes. During past visits, this iconic Italian bakery has had lines out the door. Apparently, the key is to visit on a Friday morning around 10 AM. Our fresh pistachio cannoli did not disappoint. I love how it wasn't too sweet and the crunch of the pistachios topped it all off. I'm amazed by the broad diversity of Italian baked treats they offer- from biscotti and pizelles to rum baba and cookies. Very nostalgic of my nona's creations. This spot is a treasure in the heart of the north end district. There are several other bakeries with noteworthy cannolis if you find yourself craving a self-guided cannoli tour throughout the neighborhood. read more
My third time back to Mike's Pastry in a year, all the way from Jersey! This place is a must-visit now because my boyfriend LOVES cannoli and this is the #1 spot to get an enormous delicious cannoli. I will say the prices are steep at $7/cannoli, but there's a very big variety of flavors on the back wall to choose from including some seasonal options! So far, the flavor of cannoli has translated just to what kind of topping is going to be put on the ends of a regular ricotta cannoli, but I prefer traditional ricotta cream anyhow. read more

An absolute must when you're in Boston! Mike's Pastry is iconic for a reason. The cannoli are legendary--crispy shells, rich creamy fillings, and so many flavors to choose from (I went with the classic ricotta and it was perfection). The line might be long, but it moves fast and is 100% worth the wait. The place has that old-school Italian bakery charm, and everything in the case looks like it belongs on a postcard. Of course had to stop here while I was in town for work. Best cannoli I've ever had. So many options to choose from it can be a bit overwhelming, but decided on the espresso cannoli. While on vacation in the beginning of September we knew we had to make a stop here for the Lobster Tail pastry. We did and we are so happy we did! We ordered two, took them back to our hotel. I ate mine right away. My boyfriend waited until later that afternoon. I told him if he waited much longer I was going to eat his too. It was the absolute best pastry I beer had! AMAZING CANNOLI!! I had Mike's delivered to my hotel in the morning, and it was so good that I went out and got it again later that night. I tried the Boston Cream Pie and multiple cannolis, and both lived up to the hype. The Boston Cream Pie was delicious, though I would have preferred a rich chocolate ganache instead of frosting. The cannolis, however, were truly out of this world. Their filling is by far the best I've ever had- perfectly sweet, full of flavor, and light and airy rather than the usual dense texture. The Chocolate Mousse Cannoli was my favorite, but every flavor was exceptional. Whenever I'm in Boston, I'll make it a point to pick up a cannoli from Mike's, and you should too! read more

Had to try Mike's pastry after trying the other popular pastry shop in Hanover. Cannolis at Mike's is slightly more expensive and there are no custom choices (as fast as I know) but there are a lot more choices to choose from so that makes up for it. Ordered the Cannolis with pistachio filling and mint chips. It was so good, finished it before taking a picture. Cannoli at Mike is heavier, literally, than the other one. Crunchy shell. No wonder they are so popular. Perfect way to end a meal. There is no official line. There are multiple lines going at the same time. No tables to sit and eat. All takeout unless you want to stand on the corners and eat . Will definitely try their other flavors when I come back. I will have to try both cannolis again and side by side on which I like best. read more
Stopped by in a whim the one day there wasn't a line out the door. Snapped up a Boston Creme Pie cupcake for a late night snack and my oh my was it absolutely delicious. Wowie Zowie. These are amazing. The line seems intimidating at first but once you're inside it moves quickly. The staff is very attentive. You can tell the cannoli's are made with love and they are worth every penny, and every bite. Cute little pasty shop. read more
The cannoli here were delicious! We got the tiramisu flavor, pistachio flavor and amarena flavor. Decor is very simple and it is only To go. The only thing about the service I didn't like was that it is cash only. So had to go across the street to the bank. Wouldn't be a big deal but it was pouring rain so was rather an inconvenience. Cash only, there are 4 lines, one per cashier. Every tourist is like walking around downtown Boston with box of Mike's (or Modern's). Dear husband love creamy stuff so we stopped by for their famous cannoli while walking the Freedom Trail. He got pistachio cannoli. Cannoli is pretty large, about 5" long. Standard flavors (at least 15 different) all $7. Dubai Chocolate was a special flavor of day. Ricotta was chilled, shell nice and crispy. I took two bites and was done, little heavy for me. Nut allergy warning: Seriously consider not eating here or bringing severe allergy medicine to this or any of the other cannolis locations. None of them guarantee nut allergy safety and even have signs warning against cross contamination. I generally take the smallest possible bites of a cannoli and still suffer cross contamination reactions. The things I do for a review. I brought some friends on the North Boston mini-Cannoli tour. There was already a pretty hefty 40+ person / ~20 minute wait around 8PM on a Saturday. We got a chocolate chip cannoli, to compare with other bakeries. It was the most expensive of the big three ($7 cash). Overall, we agreed that Mike's had the richest ricotta filling (very sweet, dense, and flavorful, spilling out the sides) but the worst shell (kind of soggy and not as flaky). It's definitely an intense sweet treat and we comfortably shared one cannoli among three people. Would recommend a stop by to share a cannoli. read more

Worth $7!!! (cash only) They have sooo many varieties to choose from & we picked Florentine. It was FINGER LICKING GOOD! The filling is generous and tasty but my favourite part of the cannoli has to be its shell. Uff, so chewy i absolutely loved it. Wish we picked one more but we wanted to try out other pastry shops nearby so stuck to just one here. Wish I could go back to have some more (edit - I did go back to a different location to have their Raspberry roll and Amaretto Canolli!. YUM) read more
Pastries are outstanding. Service was quick. The lines inside moved quickly. I have not seen so many flavors for cannolis. Beware, though. They only take cash. This is a very casual place. No restrooms, and no tables. They have four locations to choose from. read more
The line was long but it went by super fast! It is very busy inside and the lines aren't very well defined so you have to kind of use your best judgment. A wide variety of cannoli flavors, some I'd never seen before. At first I thought they were a little pricey, but after eating one I came to the conclusion my assessment was incorrect. Growing up, my family and I would always grab dinner then dessert in the North End at least once a week. We would go to Modern Pastry across the street for our desserts but as a kid, I couldn't help but wonder, hmm Mike's Pastry is always so packed, line outside the door, all the time! Must be very good pastries. So it wasn't until later on when I was old enough to go to the North End by myself via train, that I got to try Mike's Pastry's famous cannoli! Yeah... about that, I'm not sure I understand the hype. The cannolis honestly were not even bad, but I was expecting it to be better? I was in denial for many years too and kept going back to try more cannolis but still feel that their cannolis are just okay. They do sell other desserts that I have yet to try. Overall, their cannolis are good! But would I say it's worth waiting in line for out of the shop in the freezing cold + snowing? Not even a little. Mike's ricotta pie used to be amazing. Not anymore. The recipe has completely changed, for the worse! It tastes mostly of egg and vanilla, almost like crème anglais. Ricotta is barely detectable. The crust is also different, much thinner and baked way too dark! A whole pie cost $17 ten years ago. And now it costs $41?! Such a disappointment, and I will not be going to Mike's ever again. read more

We ordered 2 Boston cream donuts and 1 chocolate covered coconut macaroon. The coconut macaroon is THE BEST I've ever had. WOW! Service was quick and friendly. Ambiance - no place to sit. It's more of a take and go. read more
I was told by many people that this is the place to go for a pastry in Boston. Went out of my way to wait in like for 15 minutes to order just middle of the road pastries. The cannolis were just okay. And the cookie I had was inedible. Had a odd flavor and after taste that wasn't great. And it was as dry as the Sahara. There is usually a large line out the door and after having it, I don't know why. Also place is cash only. So be aware of this. read more

We loooove Mike's! It is an absolute must stop when in Boston! Don't be alarmed by the massive cloud of people when you walk in. The lines move extremely quickly and lead you to the friendliest staff! They are known for their cannolis (some of our favorites are the Nutella, mint chip and limoncello) but they also have a wide assortment of other pastries. We adore this place and look forward to stopping in for a treat on every trip to Boston! read more

Mike's pastries were just OK nothing too astounding. My favorite thing had to be the atmosphere. The smell and looks of the bakery with all the beautiful pastries were amazing. The service was nothing special, not mean, not mind-boggling nice just average. read more
