The first thing you should know is: do not be deterred by the line. It looks long (it was down the street and around the building when we went), but it moves fast. We were inside within 15 minutes--and yes, you do have to wait a bit more once you're in. But hey, look up from your phone, chat with people, live life. We went entirely for the cannoli experience. We ordered espresso cannoli, Oreo cannoli, hazelnut cannoli, and strawberry cannoli. This is, to me, what Mike's has going for it: variety. I'd never even heard of an espresso cannoli (or limoncello, or Nutella... you get the picture). The cannoli were good, but we agreed we'd had better elsewhere. Something's a little off about the fillings and textures. My husband's cannoli wasn't filled with ricotta, nor mascarpone--we never did figure out what it was. He said whatever it was, it was too light for a proper cannoli. (Take his criticism seriously; his grandparents were Sicilian-born.) I did realllllllly like my espresso flavor, though. I've seen reviewers complain about the rude service. Have I met nicer people? For sure. But as a Southerner, I kind of enjoyed the whole vibe--this "I couldn't care less if you were here" thing. This place was a recommendation of my Airbnb host, so I decided to try it while looking at historic sites on the North End. The place was easy to find, with a line sneaking out of its doors. I was surprised that the line wasn't too long, but as I entered inside, there were about four lines to the counter. Mike's pastry is a MUST STOP since you see so many people carrying the signature white boxes with blue lettering, held together with blue and white string in the area. Mike's is nostalgic for me..the first time I tried a cannoli and lobster tail from here was about 14 years ago, and it was love at first bite. So many options to choose from. My faves are pistachio, ricotta, and amaretto. They also have a variety of cream puffs, cookies, biscotti, macaroons, cakes, and more. There's a wait and line out the door at this location, but worth it - and it goes fast. Tip: if you plan on walking around with your box but want to eat any of the items you bought right away -- ask them to give you whatever you want to eat instead of putting into the box. A relative and I visited Mike's Pastry in Boston on a Monday afternoon. The shop is located in the North End of Boston, known as Little Italy. There are Italian restaurants and shops all around. There is no parking available so be prepared to find a garage and walk. I ended up parking in the LAZ parking garage in front of Quincy Market and took a short walk to the North End. The store itself is very large compared to their location in Somerville (my go to Mike's) At first it was confusing to choose which line to join since the place was packed. People come this place and leave with boxes of desserts. We each bought a cannoli and both were delicious. We paid $14 and some change for both. The filling is so sweet and the crunch of the cannoli chip is perfect. Mike's Pastry is definitely a treat. I just wish they had lower prices or more affordable options. read more

I happened to see this place as I was dining at a restaurant nearby. I've heard of it many times and have seen boxes people brought onto the plane as I travel often to and from Boston. I ordered three cannolis here. They had a variety of flavors but I wanted to stick to traditional as much as possible. I chose the plane , Chocolate chips and pistachio cannolis. I sampled each one and shared with family. These cannolis are pretty huge with a lot of filling. I enjoyed them but I had gotten a little oil like aftertaste from the shell. They were a bit pricier than the other cannoli place I had tried but this place has the bigger cannolis and variety of flavors so it depends on your tastebuds. You can also pick up little kits to make fresh at home. We tried a few other goods as well. The Boston Cream Pie was delectable. Beautiful, silky custard layered between moist sponge cake and chocolate ganache. This may be one of the best slices of this famed dessert. The Black & White Cookie was ginormous. It was incredibly sweet but still not too much. It's thiccc, kind of resembles cake. Lastly, the Eclair was delightful. It's generously stuffed with smooth, creamy custard inside the perfect choux pastry topped with rich chocolate fondant. Each pastry is truly unique. Absolutely amazing, I get the hype. This was my last stop during my visit to Boston and 3 cannolis and their Boston Cream Pie survived my flight back home. I didn't get a chance to eat the cannolis fresh right after I purchased, but the taste and texture were still great the next day. I don't have the biggest sweet tooth so I love that the filling isn't too sweet, otherwise I probably would have quickly gotten sick of it. My favorite was the amaretto cannoli, it had almonds on the end which was a great touch. I also got pistachio and Nutella which were both yummy too. My absolute favorite thing I got was a slice of their Boston Cream Pie! The chocolate was so decadent and the cake had such a nice and light texture, I definitely had wished I got more than one slice. My friends had ordered other things such as the Lobster Tail and Rum Cake which weren't their favorites, but nonetheless I enjoyed everything I ordered myself. There are only paid street parking in the area, and it's VERY difficult to find parking around the area. We only got one cannoli as it was HUGE. We were already full and just wanted to try it (except my cousin since he lived here). There were a TON of different flavors to choose from (~15-20 flavors?) I chose the espresso cannoli ($6 even; CASH ONLY) as it was the very first thing that caught my eyes. The cannoli was delicious! There was such a fragrant espresso/coffee flavor to it that many dessert places always seem to miss. My first impression of it was very good. And I was surprised at how crunchy the shell was! Pistachio one was filled with rich, creamy cottage cheese topped with crunchy pistachio bits. The outer shell was crunchy and well-fried. Yum! Before coming to Boston, I somehow discovered @modernpastry and @mikespastry and their cannolis. They have a long history in the city that started in the 1930s. Conveniently, they're on the same street. First stop was @modernpastry. Cannolis are made to order. I chose chocolate dipped, whipped cream filling with pistachios. The shop isn't too big as with many of the places in north end but it smells delicious and is full of sweets! These were easily the best cannolis I've ever had in my life.
