Mikko Sushi is my new favorite sushi place. My partner in crime and I took advantage of their daily happy hour (3-6pm and 30% off rolls). We sat at the bar, which parts of it are tucked away and the server may not see you. Despite the confusion between our server and where to order, the meal was outstanding. The sushi was delicious. The food is decent but the service of the waitresses is lackluster makes me not want to eat there. Aside from the waitresses taking your order, they seem to get irritated if you ask for anything else. I drank all my water so I patiently waited on our server to come by our table as they usually do to see if anybody needs anything. She doesn't through our whole meal. I see her at a distance and I look at her and she sees me looking at her and decides she's going to turn the other way. I wait as she continues to avoid looking at me so I can get her attention to refill my cup. I'm parched at this point. I then see her pick up her water pitcher and goes around to refill everybody's water and decides she's going to skip our table practically running by still avoiding any eye contact or asking us if we needed anything. My husband and I enjoyed lunch on a Saturday. They just opened the doors for lunch time, so the place still had plenty of seating. We took advantage of their lunch sushi special (30% off). But we first started off with a bowl of Garlic Edamame for appetizers. Packed with garlic flavor from the minced garlic, very tasty, but you may need a mint after enjoying this dish. Husband enjoyed his Korean Rib Entree which came with soup, salad and rice. I had a taste and it was very good. It was tender and flavored just right, not too salty. The sushi rolls we tried were Shrimp Crunch, Deep Fried Cali and Endless Summer. I found all 3 to very good and fresh. The size of the rolls were small enough to eat in one bite. The decor is rustic chic, very nice I think. Very spacious with plenty of seating, tables, sushi bar and booth are available. Customer service is great, checking on your table quite often. I had about 3 different servers check in regularly . Service has improved since my first visit. Will be back to dine in another time. Came here in the afternoon during their happy hour.. Place was not very busy, and their were plenty of open seats. Trendy/hipster vibe without being over the top. Everyone we interacted with was very nice. So we ordered several items.. husband and my nephews enjoyed their sushi choices, they inhaled it.. we also got a Katsu plate and agedashi tofu. Food was served hot and fresh. Basic Japanese food, but they did a good job. :) The salad the Katsu came with was cool and crisp. Nice, open and clean dining area. Friendly service. We parked in the small parking lot around the corner. Two stars, only because I genuinely feel bad for what happened to their Carlsbad location. My boyfriend and I decided to venture out from our usual hooked on sushi or love boat last night. The place walking up was a cluster, no one knew where to go for doordash or for dine in, the waiter was friendly, but took a bit to get to us. We ordered and got settled for what I expected to be a delicious meal, as I've eaten at the Carlsbad location many times and have loved it. The fish was dry looking, tasted chewy and the rolls literally fell apart, we also came at happy hour and our bill was still regular prices....Which again, we had no issue paying as it does really suck that they got hit that hard and probably need to recoup some of that loss. However the sushi was terrible, my spicy tuna roll took forever to come out after two other rolls were presented to us that weren't ours. Mistakes happen but when you're half way through your meal and you finally get the one roll you wanted, you get a bit annoyed. Im honestly shocked we didn't get sick from what we did eat, which was very minimal, we left hungry and disappointed. The sake was delicious as was the beer! The fish, not so much. Hopefully they can get it back to what I've seen they can do and the Carlsbad location is not a total loss, although, after what the waiter told me, it very well could be. read more

I was a bit worried about some of the reviews talking about how service wasn't great but the service was definitely A1 here! Our beautiful server, Nicholas (really tho, you can get it) was so attentive and helpful, as was the girl who brought us the extra things we needed (I should have asked for your name but you know who you are girl!). My mom and I have this thing where we measure sushi restaurants by how much we enjoy their Salmon Skin Handrolls and this was bomb. Like perffffectly crispy and really packed. I wish it had more sauce but really I loved it. We got Calamari tempura and seaweed salad to start, both of which were good. (I live for the little full squids so yasss) We then split the Caterpillar and Dynamite Rolls! Both of them were really filling and delicious. My only gripe is that the Eel sauce is different than I'm used to, it's usually thick and has a bit more flavor, but I do think it still complemented the sushi well. (I apologise I didn't get pics of those, we was hangry when we walked in) For dessert we got the Green Tea Tempura Ice Cream and we were more than satisfied! Really, it was a wonderful experience there; the food was bomb, the service was great and the aesthetic was on hit. We'll definitely be back, gotta take the fam and friends here! We've been to this resturant multiple times. The food and service is consistently excellent! I have never had any complaints complaints. Today was not an exception. We arrived as part of a large party of 9. They cheerfully set up a table for us even though we did not have reservations and we arrived at 8pm. Menu's was laid out, and water glasses were served. There two We were seated quickly, and served water. There was no pressure placed on us to order quickly. We were given plenty of time to decide and were willing to break up the total order to 5 separate tickets. My husband and I started with an order of Garlic Edamame, which is a favorite. I love the garlic sauce. He ordered shrimp Teriyaki Bowl and a side salad and I got the Korean Spareribs Plate. My husband loved the his Shrimp Teriyaki Bowl. I really enjoyed the Spareribs and thought they were amazing. Several in our party ordered sushi and other's ordered Entre's. I did not hear any complaints. There is a wide variety of choices on the menu to choose from. The waitstaff were very good at keeping our drinks filled, and bringing us anything we needed. Customer service couldn't have been better. Every time we've been here, it has consistently been an amazingly pleasant experience. The dishes were quickly picked up by the staff as soon as we finished with them. It is obviously that the staff and management care about their jobs and seem to enjoy working in the restaurant. Everything had a very clean and well presented appearance. The dishes looked perfect as they were brought out. As guest left, I notice they were quick to clean off the tables, and get ready for the next party. The bathrooms were spotless and well stocked. The decor is the industrial urban look..... I am personally not in love with the look (it's overdone and very impersonal), but that's just my opinion. Despite the decor, we'll keep coming. This is the best Japanese food place I've ever been to! If you read the one star reviews it's a bunch of hogwash (polite way of saying BS). These people really know what they are doing! I brought my Japanese coworker here and I'm not kidding when I say he literally cried when he had the katsodon. It reminded him of his Japanese father's cooking. Everything here is very high quality for an outstanding price. Patrick has been our server a few times and he does an amazing job! Let me start off with talking about the good. Friendly service, nice looking place, clean bathrooms and the strawberry nigori saki was great. That being said, the food was as subpar as it gets. I got the beef udon, the beef yakisoba, and a few sushi rolls. The beef in the udon was maybe 5 pieces of small beef bites, the soup was ok at best, and it's kinda hard to mess up noodles so they were fine. The beef udon at Harumama only slightly down the road is cheaper and tastes wayyyyyyy better! Oh the yakisoba, the noodles in those packs of Ramen you buy at the store were better than those and the beef that came with it had so much fat on it, it was almost inedible. The sushi were itty bitty pieces and just ok with the taste, I compare it to something you'd get at the grocery store, but way more expensive. My wife is obsessed with sushi, it's literally her favorite food and she said the salmon was chewy and gross. I'm honestly not sure how this place is in business with how many better options there are around. On top of that the bill for me and my wife and my 4 year old was over a $100. It is a cute restaurant both inside and out. I found the waitstaff to be friendly and helpful. I came for lunch, and got one of their lunch specials. I liked that they gave you a choice for sides.
