Family and I were on a mini-vacay and while driving around (starving) I did a quick Yelp search and decided to try this place out. So happy we decided to stop here! It's a small neighborhood spot, great for a casual dinner with friends and fam. We were seated right away. We had a very sweet & attentive waiter who, from the sound of his accent, is definitely from Greece. I'm from Queens so I've had PLENTY of Greek food in my lifetime. The food here was delicious and fresh. I definitely recommend trying the Spanikopita, the Greek house salad (which comes with everyone's meals anyway), the Avgolemono soup, and the Baklava for dessert. The Mediterranean Seafood Platter was by far my favorite item eaten that night! The only letdown was the Gyro Platter - it was tasty but I really wish I was given some lettuce, onions & tomatoes to put on top and they only give you 4 small pieces of pita for all that meat. All in all, I would come back if I was ever passing by again. read more

Fairly decent Greek restaurant that deserves your try. Food is fresh and portions are nicely sized. Their dolmades are huge and very tasty. I have been there several times and have tried various items. All were good. I do like their moussaka is very good, though the bottom potatoes do get hard some times. Either too high heat or to thin a pan. Most entries come with lemon potatoes, yum. I was not crazy for their avgolemono soup. Not enough lemon flavor, IMHO. The hours listed on Yelp are not fully correct. On Sundays they do not open till 4 pm. Recommend to try, not fancy and servers have always been pleasant. read more

Good Greek food served by shady THIEVES. Watch your credit card bill like a hawk if you pay by cc! My family and I went there after visiting the cemetery nearby. It started out like a great experience with nice friendly faces and atmosphere, a nice change from grieving a deceased loved one. Food came out quick and was pretty authentic and good. We enjoyed our lunch and were feeling generous so left a 25% tip to compensate for credit card fees... then a few days later I notice my cc was charged $5 and change MORE than what the total bill + tip was. Nowhere in their menu does it say extra CC fee nor did the gentleman mention any CC fee when taking payment. I even did the math and tried to make sense of the extra amount and it does not equal any % of the bill total (whether subtotal, after tax, or including the 25% tip). I easily disputed it with my CC since I have a copy of the receipt after I signed (ALWAYS a good habit) but this is the last time we patronize this restaurant. I do a quick search for reviews and see I'm not alone in their extortion scheme. What a shame, charging a little more for every customer and banking on the fact that most people probably don't check their CC statements. It would serve them right if someone went and charged a $300 bill there and disputed the entire bill. read more

Update: Ordered takeout/pickup from Mikonos and was VERY pleased! For $30, we got 2 HUGE beef/lamb gyro sandwiches with nice hot fries in a large takeout container, and 4 cute triangle spanikopitas as a takeout appetizer. I called at 540pm, ordered everything to be ready for pickup at 645pm and sure enough it was ready ON TIME, HOT, and FRESH! I was very pleased with the amount of food and also the delicious flavors! Love this place! I get weekly takeout for the local animal shelter, and Mikonos is one we keep going back to. I always get the gyro -the meat is always good, lettuces fresh, the pita soft, the lemon potatoes soooo yummy. Others have tried their soups and various entrees and always rave about their orders. The people who work there are always always so nice and very accommodating (no onion on my gyro). Their online to-go menu is very easy to use, and each item allows for special instructions (like no onion on my gyro). read more

I came here for dinner last week and it was one of the best dinner experiences I've had in the Ewing area. You could tell that all of the food was authentic and made in house. I went here for my birthday and had a great experience. This is the perfect place of "don't judge a book by its cover." Also my waitress I forgot her name (don't find me and Beat me) was terrific. Her personality alone made the experience so much better. I got the hummus, saganaki, and the grape leave. All were unbelievable. For my meal I got the spanakopita which was authentic and perfect. It was perfectly cooked and seasoned and was delightful. Believe it or not the star of the dish was the lemon potatoes .... holy GOD these things were unreal. I mean seriously I would go back just for those. I took one star off because my mother got the seafood and pasta (shame on her at a Greek restaurant).... however it was terrible. I mean the pasta was good (how could you ruin pasta?) but the seafood was FRESH (OUT THE FREEZER). I mean the calamari was like rubber, the mussels were fishy, and the shrimp was a no go. I gave them a pass because it's a a Greek spot and she should have not gotten that but if it's on the menu it better be edible. That being said my waitress and outstanding Greek dishes over powered it so I recommend the Greek cuisine but suggest staying far away from that dish!!! read more

I grew up in Chicago. Besides having a number of Greek restaurants in my West Rogers Park neighborhood, I also managed to get to Greektown from time to time. Mikonos reminds me of those Chicago places. Authentic, delicious, reasonably-priced, good portions. Wonderful staff. BYOB! The food is amazing as always! Haven't been here in a while but my grandma and I went here tonight and I remember why we love it so much! Today I went to spend a few hours of training new recruits with my son in Central NJ We decided to go to lunch. We searched for a restaurant near by and i found my white whale Mikinos ... In over 20 years i have not had the Mediterranean pleasure as I had today.. it's a hidden treasure of the old country. Kostas the owner is here for 20 years. He has a sarcastic sense of humor, and a big heart. I felt at home and for a minute i was on the shores of Mikinos. Sometimes you find these family mom and pa places where they cook from the heart. Everything was made from scratch.. and imported from Greece... I was on cloud 9 today. He wrapped a home made Baklava and refused money... I made a promise when i am back i will come and eat there and we will talk about dogs and the Mediterranean sea. This place is hit or miss. Of the 3 times I've ordered for pick up, they've gotten the order correct exactly 0 times. So when picking up, open up your carton and check. The last time I got the lamb and beef platter, the meat was so overcooked and dry that most of it was inedible and I ended up throwing out most of the dish. This is the other thing you need to check for when you get your food. The time before that however, my dish was delicious, with everything being perfectly cooked. They needed to change it to a platter from a sandwich of course but hey who gets things right all the time? Or half the time? or 1/3 of the time? I guess the main point is, you need to open up your carton and check your order. They also just raised the price of everything too so if you have an old menu, make sure you ask for the price with your order. read more

Always love the lemon potatoes and also enjoyed a large container of Greek Salad with the platter. Finished up with a cup of Greek rice pudding. Been here twice in as many weeks. Once for lunch and once for takeout dinner. Both were great - this is a lovely and welcome restaurant to the area. They've taken an old Stewarts location and spruced up the interior with cheery lighting and new furnishings. Service is very friendly - our waiter did magic tricks for my little daughter. For lunch, we went for the straight-up gyros, with a bowl of avgolemno for the girl. Total winner - as good as the best I've had - maybe even a little better! The yogurt sauce they serve with it is a perfect combination of tangy and sweet, and their fries are slamming. I'm usually a fan of thicker cut fries, but these thin ones with plenty of salt, pepper - and some other seasoning (lemon?) - are a treat. When it came to takeout, the experience was a bit more mixed, but still solid overall. All the standbys - moussaka, pastitsio, spanakopita - were again, as good as I've had. The tomato sauce they make has a nice cinnamon overtone without being overbearing. My Father-in-law had the seafood salad, which is in reality flash-fried mixed seafood with steamed mussels over a salad. He declared it a 'winner'. Where the take-out fell short were the fries (they don't travel well, especially in a plastic take out case that steams them after cooking - a universal problem), the meatball appetizer (it arrived without any sauce - they were dry), and the greens with olive and lemon (no olive [maybe they meant olive oil?], flavorless chard). I'm willing to cut them a lot of slack, though. The food is so good overall, these hiccups didn't bother me much. The lunch menu, served until 3pm, is a super bargain. Drop in and try a Gyros! I was pleasantly surprised with Mikonos . I drive by this restaurant often but don't think much about it. Now that I tried it I'll definitely be back. The humus appetizer was very good. Just regular humus, but very tasty with a nice hint of citrus. The pita that comes with the humus had a nice touch of char flavor also. The pastichio was delicious. It had a nice mix of herbs with the ground beef and the noodles were cooked just right. The top was finished with a touch of tomato sauce. For desert I had galatoboureko. It's a sweet custard wrapped in phyllo dough. It was delicious! I will have this every time I go back. Finally, the service was good. Everyone was friendly and the food was timed right. The atmosphere is ok but nothing to write home about. read more

I ordered the beef and lamb platter and the lamb and beef were so good and seasoned perfectly...the platter came with fresh pita bread, lemon potatoes and salad... The service was eggh...but the food made up for the service...the decor of the place was divey, but pleasant... The platter was huge and only 9 bucks!!!! Everything was great!!! Delicious Greek food at a great price and with generous portions. This was my first time to this restaurant (although I am a frequent visitor to this area), but it most certainly won't be my last! My father ordered the beef and lamb gyro, and I had the papoutsaki. He noted the gyro meat was tender and flavorful, the pita was fresh and soft, and the gyro was topped with fresh vegetables and tasty Tzatziki sauce. I have never had papoutsaki before, but it instantly became a vegetarian favorite with perfectly-cooked eggplant filled with grilled vegetables and topped with creamy yet crispy toasted cheese. Both of our dishes came with a side of potatoes and mine with a small but fresh side salad, so it was more than enough food. The service was very friendly and attentive and again, the prices were very good for the quantity and quality of food. Expect a casual but relatively quiet and relaxed atmosphere. My father commented at the end of the meal he'd like this to be "our place" next time we visit the area. read more

We had passed Mikonos too many times without trying it, and finally did so recently. This is an unpretentious restaurant, unexpectedly sitting alongside Scotch Road in Ewing, NJ, a couple miles or so south of Route 95. When we dined there recently we were in for a real treat. I started with lentil soup, which was thick with lots of vegetables, and not overly salted. For a main I had Pastitsio, exactly the way it should be: high, square, and luscious, with beautifully seasoned insides and a creamy bechamel. Husband had salmon, very fresh, very simple, very good. It came over greens with elegantly roasted vegetables that were optimally caramelized---not the sort of insipid and abused vegetables usually found on plates in the middle of New Jersey, as well as tangy lemon potatoes, which were fine. Both mains were preceded by a simple but well dressed salad. Galaktoboureko for dessert ended the meal, and it was fresh and luscious, dripping with honey, and among the best we've ever had. All this at modest prices in a clean and comfortable setting. We'll be back soon. For some reason, their online menu omits three fish dishes and we don't know what else, so be sure to check with the server for your favorites. read more

As a vegetarian, I had a field day. We walked in for dinner on a friday night at around 7:45 without having to wait for a table. Since we were starving we ordered hummus and calamari as an appetizer. The hummus was good, nothing exceptional. It tasted homemade, not too much tahini. A good basic hummus. Served with some warm and squishy pocket-less pita slices. As for the calamari (yes, I had 1 ring... the gods of vegetarianism might smite me). It came out VERY hot and crispy which led me to assume it had just been fried (hence why I HAD to have one...i know you're judging me). Entrees come with a greek "house" salad. Typical, tasty greek salad. As a main course my mother and I shared the Ola Mazi for 2, which was a HUGE vegetarian sampler of: stuffed grape leaves (about 10 of them), 3 zucchini patties, a large hunk of spanikopita, a large piece of stuffed eggplant, 2 feta stuffed red peppers and a plate of lemony-buttery potatoes. Oh my goodness everything was so good! There was SO MUCH FOOD it could have easily fed 3. We ended up taking home half of it! I really enjoyed everything on this platter. I can't wait to eat the leftovers. The only thing that was a little strange were the stuffed peppers, they are literally 2 roasted red peppers that have been filled to the brim with spicy melted feta cheese. Reminded me of a greek chile relleno. They were a bit heavy, I felt like I was just eating a lot of cheese (tasty, salty, spicy cheese nonetheless, but after a few bites I was done.) And although we were VERY full, I'm a sucker for homemade rice pudding, so for dessert we had their "greek rice pudding". It was extremely delicious, served with whipped cream, then sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar (the crunchy sugar granules were a little strange). Overall. It was DELICIOUS! Not cheap, not outrageous, Vegetarian Ola Mazi for 2 was $25, considering the amount of food we took home, was a good deal! The portions are VERY generous, and I'm REALLY REALLY REALLY excited to eat my leftovers. And as usual my 2 cents about atmosphere: It's a very small restaurant. Honestly it reminded me of an upscale diner. They have paper napkins and checkered tablecloths...but the waiter had a collared, white, button-up shirt on, and they do sell wine by the bottle (even though it is a BYOB). Favorite Greek restaurant! Ate there today. We drive 40 min to eat there. Always worth our trip. Tomato basil soup was delicious. We always order Horiatiki salad, Gigantes, octopus and (sometimes dolmades) as appetizers. Main course lamb kebob platter with great lemon potatoes and perfectly seasoned grilled veggies. Consistently delicious. Very tasty spanakopita with two sides. My other favorite is chicken souvlaki. Dessert baklava and galaktobouriko always a must. Very authentic. The portions are generous. We always bring home leftovers. Our waiter was very nice and attentive. We never had a bad experience. Again, the food is very good and authentic(I spent a lot of time in Greece). Well, don't want to end on the negative note but one thing I was bothered by...the waitress vacuumed the floor while we were eating. Right next to our table! A big NO NO. I really want to enjoy this delicious food without any extra dust particles. It wasn't the first time this happened. Also last time we were there...the cleaning/spraying tables with a commercial strength Lysol(while we were eating) has to stop too. In other review somebody complained about the same thing. We really enjoyed our outing to Mikonos on a Friday night and were very pleased with the food. For an appetizer, we ordered a hot combo platter, which had fried zucchini, meatballs, beans, and something else I cannot remember. The fried zucchini was outstanding -- we were amazed with the bouquet of flavors in that bite. Beans were very good. Meatballs were nothing particularly special, but they were still good. The creamy tzatziki sauce was wonderful and perfectly spiced. For the main meal, my girlfriend got a gyro sandwich, and I got lamb tzatziki (kebobs). I had their gyro before, and it's very good. But lamb tzatziki was something else entirely: there were 2 skewers, lemon potatoes, and tzatziki sauce. The lamb was cooked to absolute perfection -- I'd say between medium rare and medium well, with a little pink at the center. The cut of meat was very appropriate for kebobs -- it wasn't too chewy, but it was fatty and juicy and full of flavor. I couldn't stop myself until I went through both skewers and all the lemon potatoes. Wow. I was also compelled to finish out such a fine meal with baklava for dessert. I've had baklava brought from Greece, and this one was just like that. Very rich and a very appropriate finish to a scrumptious meal. For next time, I would definitely keep an eye out for those fried zucchini and get a separate plate of those -- they were that good. Prices were decent for the amount of food and the quality of food you get. This isn't what you'd call a fine dining establishment. It has a comfy diner feel to it, and that's fine. Our waitor, George, was very polite, informative, and pleasant. He definitely made our Mikonos experience better. read more

We wanted to try Greek food before our trip to Greece. This seemed like the place to go. Went for dinner on a Friday night and everything was excellent. The staff was friendly and attentive. Restaurant is casual. I am pretty sure it used to be a Wendy's. We got the hot appetizer combo platter. I love the spanakopita and kolokithokeftedes. We also ordered the saganaki. Then we ordered the combo dinner for two with moussaka and lemon potatoes, dolmades, and more spanakopita. Everything was delicious, but after the apps, the platter for two was way too much food. We boxed most of it. My husband tried Greek coffee which he said was good and we shared baklava. Now we are on a sugar high! We will return with a bottle of wine next time. UPDATE: 2nd visit was just as good as the 1st. Family dinner- brought wine, great service. Cold App combo was delicious( Tzatziki, Hummus, Meliitzanosalata). Went last night w 3 friends. We started with a special appetizer with a grilled cheese on a bed of lettuce and sliced tomatoes. No flavor and very dry. I ordered the beef and lamb gyro. I was expecting a wrap in Greek PETA bread but got the sliced meats on top of the PETA bread with lettuce, tomatoes, and their lemon baked potatoes. The neat was just ok but the potatoes tasted terrible. One of my friends had the papoutsaki w/beschamel. The beschamel is suppose to be a cream sauce w/ a lite crust topping from the grill. This was served as a solid topping like it had been heated and re-heated to long. Also the bottom was slightly burnt. My other friend had the pastitsio platter. All noodle and very little meat. The only good from the restaurant was the friendliness of our waitress. Probably really deserves 1 star. read more
