Mil's is run by a Greek couple who are usually very friendly. Their longtime servers are also attentive and friendly. This is a popular American style breakfast and lunch restaurant especially with the locals, many of whom are apparently daily regulars. Portions are large. They are willing to 'customize' your order to suit your tastes. Alas, I've had mixed results with fried eggs there. If I order them "over easy" they come with some of the whites still very raw. If I order them "over medium" they arrive golden brown with a tough "lace" around the edges (caused by cooking the eggs on a hot grill rather than in an egg pan over lower heat). The eggs benedict are well made with a generous slice of Canadian bacon and a particularly tasty hollandaise sauce. I have not had better in Milpitas. They make huge omelets and many people like them. I found my mushroom and cheese omelet to be dry and tough. The hash brown potatoes are nicely crisp on one side and are tasty and you can order them the way you want them. Or try the country potatoes (diced) with onion and bell pepper. The four thick-cut rashers of a bacon side order come nicely crisp but not crunchy. You can ask for your bacon to be extra crispy. Hands down this is the best restaurant bacon you have ever had. Waffles are from mix but with a faint vanilla taste that mingles well with the "maple" syrup (really it is flavored corn syrup like all restaurants offer). It comes with a generous scoop of margarine but you can ask for real butter instead. Pancakes are uniform. There is one batter used. If you order blueberry pancakes, for example, you get the regular buttermilk stack with a blueberry compote on top. You can order strawberry pancakes if you want the buttermilk stack with strawberry jam on top. The breakfast fruit cup is canned fruit in a small ramekin. Oatmeal is cooked from instant mix and can be a bit underdone. Like nearly all restaurants their coffee comes pre-ground from the lowest quality and cheapest beans. So you'll notice no difference between Mil's coffee and that served in Denny's located across Calaveras Blvd. Lunch items are also huge portions and can be cooked the way you want them. There are also a few Greek dishes on the menu. If you want lots of food for a reasonable price and are looking for that old American country road house style of cooking, Mil's is worth a try. read more

We went here today for breakfast/lunch because the place we were planning on going to has closed. Arrived around 12:15ish and decided to sit at the counter instead of waiting 15 minutes for a booth. What a treat to sit there and watch the waitstaff and bussers busting their butts to get everything out. They were working non-stop and STILL had time to stop by to check on us every couple of minutes to see if we needed more coffee or just to smile and chat for a second. A regular customer came in right after us and sat next to my girlfriend and the waitress (Terry, who was mentioned in the review by Megan M.) called him by name and pretty much knew what he wanted to order and how he liked everything cooked. The staff were all super-friendly and the food... wow. The food was to die for. My gf ordered the London broil with eggs and hashbrowns. That London broil was by far THE best one either of us have ever had. It was cooked to perfection and topped with these mushrooms that were sauteed with onions in a butter/wine sauce. That steak practically melted in your mouth. And the hashbrowns were nicely crispy & brown on the outside and just a little bit of non-brown but completely cooked inside - perfect! I was in more of a lunch mood so I ordered the bbq beef sandwich. I don't think I've ever had a bbq beef sandwich where there was NO fat in the meat before. It was not a gigantic greasy pile-o-meat slathered with sauce like you usually get. Oh, no. This was a perfect ratio of meat to bun and the meat was absolutely delicious with just enough sauce to make it moist but not messy. It was all I could do to make myself stop eating it when I was done instead of devouring the rest of it just because it tasted so dang good. We sat and chatted with the waitress when she finally had a little bit of down time and was able to take a breather. She was sweet and funny and we told her we had heard about HER on yelp. She liked that. A lot. :) The final touch was a strawberry malt for me and a vanilla malt for my gf - TO GO. They were just the right treat while we drove out to the Berryessa fleamarket to walk off all that good food. Oh yeah, did I forget to mention the size of the portions? That London broil was huge and came with THREE eggs and a generous portion of hashbrowns as well as toast. I am telling you if you leave that place hungry, it's your own fault!! And the prices were extremely reasonable for the quantity/quality of food and quality of service. I give this place a 1 star but that is for the nice waitress who talked and joked with us. Everything else was bad! I went here with a group of 6 other friends to grab some breakfast. Found parking right away and we ended up getting a booth, which was nice. Only bad thing was the little fruit flies or little nats around our table. At first we were ok but thru out the whole meal we kept seeing them. A couple in fell in our water and on our napkins. Once the food arrived to the table everyone was excited to eat, until I looked at my eggs and the sad looking lettuce and realized there was a piece of hair on the lettuce. The waitress apologized right away and took it away. It was gross! The service was good. But thankfully the staff was very nice and apologetic. I noticed people mention this place has won "Best Diner in Milpitas" for many years; I most likely will not be coming back. I'd rather go to another breakfast place. read more

5 star food, 5 star service from our amazing waitress, Terri. She made excellent recommendations on food, kept my water glass full, and had a friendly banter that makes you feel at home. Absolutely loved every moment of our food experience. The experience was soured by the woman who took our payment. She said not one word to myself or my husband, threw the check at him for a signature, and didn't even thank us. I asked for her name, she gave it, and then asked if she had done something wrong. I told her I thought it was a little rude for her to throw the check. She let us know she was the owner, and had owned the place for 24 years, and if I wanted to talk to someone I could call her husband and let him know that his wife was mean to me. She made a huge scene at the front of the restaurant. I was incredibly embarrassed as she continued to yell at me that she's not rude, and I should not come back. Several customers followed us out of the restaurant to make sure we were ok- totally unprofessional place. Really sad- because the food and waitstaff are so fantastic....just won't be able to patronize a place with this type of owner. read more

A good mom and pop restaurant, but I will limit my review to breakfast, as that is all we have had there (two days in a row). Yes we ate there the first morning of our trip, and went back the next day.. It is just standard breakfast fare, but done well. Large portions, fast, friendly service, clean, and well priced. Chicken fried steak, is huge, as was the omelet. The Coffee was topped up quickly, and they had no problem cooking our hash browns exactly how we like them, dark. Diner food galore! There's nothing fancy here, but they have a very wide menu, and everything is excellent. Every plate that comes out is skillfully and carefully prepared. In fact, I've even tried to order something that might be sub-par (gyros), and it came out great! Be careful with the omelettes. I've been here a few times, but only for breakfast. The breakfast here is great! Friendly staff, seems to be family oriented. Breakfast plates have comparable prices to other restaurants. Portions are about right for the price you pay. I've tried the eggs, hash browns and sausage/bacon-kudos for this plate! I've also had a sampling of the pancakes and french toast here, very very good! The inside decor is a bit older, but still cozy and clean. We've been served by a couple of different staff memebers and service is always great! Since this place is somewhat small, you may find yourself waiting for up to 10 minutes during peak times. I love it here! I went here for the first time this morning with my bf. We were instantly greeted and were told to sit anywhere we liked. I told one of the ladies (i think she was the owner? Idk) it was our first time here, so a waitress came over and gave us a few pointers about the breakfast specials before 11AM. So we ended up getting the bacon, hashbrown, eggs and toast plate which cost $6 something. We added a pancake for about $2 more. Let me just say that their portions were huge. My bf and I still had leftovers from SHARING. (but that's because he couldn't eat much from the stomach flu) I felt like we got more than what we paid for. One pancake felt like it could've been 2! I wish I knew our servers name because she was too awesome. I'm pretty sure the regular customers do though. Overall, great service and not too long of a wait for our food. I most definitely would come back for breakfast. Possibly also willing to try their lunch items. I think I would choose this place over Denny's across the street. I drove by this place so many times wondering what it was because the sign "RESTAURANT" was the only thing noticeable. This was a great place to eat breakfast today! We walked in around 10:20am and put our name on the list. I asked the wait time and was told 18-20 minutes, not bad at all. We waited inside and 2 counter seats opened up and we made our move. We sat at the counter and were quickly asked if we wanted something to drink from a very nice middle aged gentleman. 2 waters please and the husband asked if the coffee was any good. A quick chuckle and discussion about that and the husband said he would try it. The coffee never arrived but I'll get back to that. Our waitress (Teri) came over, made sure our drink order was taken and proceeded to take our food order. I ordered a mimosa because of her suggestion and was not disappointed. Our food came out after an average wait. Everything was perfect. Teri was extremely pleasant, she has a great personality. We took the check to be rang up. Eleni asked how was everything, I told her great but that my husband ordered a coffee that never came. It was no big deal but she asked so I was honest. After she rung us up she got my husband some coffee to go, at no charge. That was a classy move and I let her know that I appreciated it. On my way to run an errand in Milpitas we found Mil's Diner after looking for a place to try on Yelp. I had the Pastrami sandwich which was not very extraordinary. It had about 5 slices of pastrami, cheese and some kraut on rye. I could have made this at home. I was hoping it would be as tasty or as impressive as the hot pastramis at Max's Opera Cafe. No such luck. The fries were shoestring frozen kind. It was sustenance and nothing more than that. It came with an option for soup or salad. I had the minestrone that I think could have been from a can. Service was great and the reviews that say the portions are large are accurate. I came here on my lunch break one day. I would not go here if you are on a time crunch. The service was prompt for how busy they were, took our order and got our drinks fairly quickly. The food took some time to come out. My portion of food was incredibly large for a breakfast item. I don't see a way that most people can finish it. I ordered the country fried steak and got 3 eggs, hashbrowns (that were mushy), toast, and a country fried steak with a very thick gravy. Just had breakfast here with my bf. I had the mil's #4 which had 3 eggs, hash-brown, steak and mushrooms. I can't recall what my bf's order was called, but it consisted of ham, hash-brown, and eggs. Toast also came as a side for both orders. The portions are quite large in general so they will indeed fill you up, but I wouldn't say they're satisfying. The steak was not a single full size piece as I would like it to be (for example, the steaks at Chilis). Rather, it was in 4 thin pieces, and I find that odd and less appetizing. I guess my perception of how a steak ought to be is one fat piece of juicy meat. This steak was also quite flavorless and slightly dry. I had to use a lot of Tabasco sauce. The hashbrown was alright...not that great, but endurable. The eggs were ehh. I tried a piece of ham from my bf's plate, and it didn't taste too good; but then again, I'm not a ham person. My bf likes ham and he also didn't find this ham a bit appetizing. All in all, we were very full, but we were not satisfied with the quality of the meal. Our meal came out to be about $23 something. I rather eat at Chilis. The service is cool, erring on the friendly side. The wait for the food and almost everything else was rather long. Lastly, the restaurant itself is clean. I came here four months ago and the food was good, but service was lousy. I came back yesterday for a second try and my opinion has not changed: food was still good, service was still crappy. My boyfriend and I walked in and I know a lot of the workers saw us but nobody acknowledged us for a good 5 minutes. When we finally sat down, it took what felt like 15 minutes for our waiter to take our order (I also had to get one of the bussers to find our waiter for us so we could order). That makes me think that if I didn't call the busser to find my waiter, he probably wouldn't have ever came. I ordered the chicken fried steak which I thought was really good and really fulfilling. I ordered bacon, scrambled eggs, hash browns, and pancakes; in particular, the bacon was crispy with a burnt side. My friend ordered an omelet. The portions were big. The prices were good. Mil's is still one of my favorite breakfast/brunch joints in the area, but every time I come here, I've got a different reason to deduct stars and leave them with a 3-star review. This time, it's because they let customers smoke at the three tables they've got set up outside. I got the Breakfast Special w/ Three Eggs Sunny-Side Up, Cajun Sausage, Hash Browns, and Wheat Toast (3 1/2 stars), and an order of Biscuits and Country Gravy (3 stars). The biscuits and gravy wasn't as good as it usually is, but it was still better than most other places around here. The older Greek lady running the show was still super cool, and the staff was still nice to my pup. I love yelp! I was looking for a nearby Denny's and yelp suggested Mil's diner in the list. We had French toast and pan cakes. My daughters enjoyed the food. Elder one thought coming here was a wise decision for my side :-) We waited only for 5-10 mts. And waitress gave us extra toast for our little one too. Overall great breakfast experience. WOW! This is really home style cooking. The portions are really huge as I have to take home leftovers, enough for another meal. I really enjoyed the authentic Greek style. The service was a little slow but was truly worth the wait. I will definitely return to try the breakfast. read more

I live out of town but every time I come to Milpitas to see my boyfriend we always eat breakfast at Mils diner. It has the BEST French toast ever and the staff is super friendly. The eggs come in all ways done to perfection. Parking is a nightmare during prime hours. Entering from Abbott is a better bet. The wait can stretch to 20 minutes sometimes, but we waited less than 5 at 1PM. Service is attentive and helpful. I came here based on the good reviews and was looking forward to having some yummy brunch. My party of two waited quite a while to get seated as it was busy around the time we arrived on an early Sunday afternoon. As soon as we were seated, we were handed an extensive menu full of different types of breakfast foods, etc. I chose to stick to the smaller menu which had their specials and ordered the hot house omelette. I don't remember what my bf ordered, but we also shared an order of French toast. It didn't take long for our food to come and we were ready to eat! As I took my first bite, I was not impressed. It was just like any other omelette with jalapeños, tomatoes, and the list goes on. I did like how it was huge in size, but it was a bit too cheesy for me. I didn't even bother finishing the hashbrowns because it was just way too oily and I was full off the big omelette anyway. Toast was just toast. My bf said that his omelette wasn't that great either, but did mention that he liked the big portion. The French toast was not good. We've had much better at other brunch places. It was basic French toast that lacked flavor and was more eggy with barely any cinnamon taste. We didn't finish it. The service was good though. Our waiter came back several times to refill our water which we appreciated. I'd say if you want fast and (kind of) cheap, come here for a try. Otherwise, it would be better to go elsewhere. read more
