I ordered the turkey burger that didnt taste right. Also there was so much granch on it yes granch that the bun fell apart. It was a total mess. The Milkstop Café and The Elm were highly recommended to me a few weeks ago and I dined at both recently. Milkstop is a charming and unique little gem with great staffing. Very old time neighborhood feel with a hundred year old floor, lovely menu and a smart/affordable wine list that includes Spain, Portugal, Greece and Sicily. The roasted red pepper bisque was world class. The crab cake eggroll was unique, fresh tasting and came with a perfect sauced slaw. The bucatini with pancetta and grilled brussel leaves were also awesome. Can't wait to try the lobster ravioli with saffron and the creamy herb risotto. Sadly, no Osso Buco in downtown LaGrange, but the lamb chops, Chilean sea bass, the world's greatest mussels and fresh Halibut still delight the foodie. Wine is about marketing and distribution, not price. Non-consumer reviews are also near worthless. Grape lovers are keenly aware that restaurant and wine store clerk recommendations are rarely satisfying, a too kind understatement. Like The Elm's French Montrose Rose and Prasino's Pinot Blanc by Emile Beyer the Finca Enguera Rosado, a low cost Spanish Rose recommended by Molly was a homerun. Molly was my pleasant, knowledgeable and attentive server. She also mirrored my experience at the other LaGrange restaurants mentioned. Who would believe it, skillfully chosen low cost European wines paired with killer food, old school service and a trendy environment in the no longer sleepy village of LaGrange. Unlike downtown Chicago, a world class restaurant city somewhat defined by Gibson's Italia and the people watching Tavern On Rush, we don't have to carry a Glock. Can't wait to try 1416, Pazzo Bene, Steak & Vine and the soon to open GP Italiano. To this long time foodie, LaGrange is clearly the best of the Western Suburbs for a variety of reasons. Given his recent comments, someone should tell the Mayor Of Burr Ridge that the downtown LaGrange restaurants are an asset that draw traffic and benefit the community, not a liability. Capri and Topaz are certainly top tier, but having lived in both towns for many years, Burr Ridge is still a Green Acres/Petticoat Junction type town with little culture, few worthy restaurants and no walkability. Frustrated with the lack of meaningful restaurant coverage specific to this geographic area, this lover of food and wine may launch a Western Suburban Gourmet Blog for foodies. read more

This morning when I was in town visiting a friend I have the opportunity to go to Milkstop. Overall I was very impressed with the atmosphere of the restaurant. Upon arriving it definitely looks like a small café that would have quality food. My expectations were exceeded upon getting served quickly by a generous waitress named Jacqueline. She helped us decide what some of the better menu options were and recommended an off menu item called "The Green Diva Crunch" for my friend as well as the shaved prime rib sandwich. She also helped us with her drink orders as well. She recommended things based upon our preferences. During a Friday lunch rush, our food was brought in a timely matter and with a smile-- evening making a few jokes along the way. I will be back next time in the are. We had been wanting to try Milkstop for a while so ended up going for dinner on Father's Day. The interior is very unassuming and casual but with amazing food and beautiful service! I do not remember our server's name but she was lovely! We did not feel rushed whatsoever and everything came out perfectly. The crab cake egg rolls are a must... I think that it was simply one egg roll cut in half, but was well worth it. They do not skimp on the filling! The halves rested on a bed of spicy citrusy slaw. I got the risotto which was very flavorful as well. The rest of the family got the prime rib french onion soup, the charred wedge salad, shrimp and grits, the lobster ravioli, and the wagyu burger. All dishes were on point! It was a bit surprising how good the food was despite the casual atmosphere. Absolutely nothing wrong with that, in fact, I prefer it but it just gives you a nice surprise that this place has some sophisticated and flavorful dishes. We will definitely be back very soon. Service, atmosphere and food is incredible. Love the fact that it is off the disaster of LaGrange Road. Very easy to find a parking place near the establishment. I had some time to kill in the area on a Saturday around 2:00 and looked for a apot to sit and have a beer or two. I'm not from LaGrange, but have been to the downtown area many times, since Milkstop isn't quite downtown, I had not heard of it. I noticed they close at 3:00 between lunch and dinner, but figured I'd kill an hour. I was very surprised to see how full the restaurant was during the middle of the afternoon. It was about 2/3 full and people were still coming in for lunch. The space is lovely and cozy, providing a small, intimate feel. Everyone there was also very friendly and inviting and the service was great. Anyway, I was only planning on having a couple of beers to pass the time, but kept seeing delicious plates of food coming out of the kitchen all around me. I also glanced over the menu and everything looked delicious. I knew I had to come back at some point for a meal. Some point ended up being that night.. Returning later that evening, my party and I found the restuarant totally hopping. All the tables were full and there were only a couple of bar seats left. We were informed the wait would be about 20 minutes, so we grabbed a drink at the bar. Drinks were served promptly and again, the service at the bar was great. I do agree with what other people have said, it is very loud. Its not quite bar in Chicago at night loud, but be prepared to speak up at your table. Long story short, our table service, food and everything was fantastic. Glancing around at other tables, all of the food looks delicious. Food prices are very reasonable and the quality is top notch. Everyone I was with loved their meals and was impressed with the service and friendliness of the staff. I'm really happy to see a local place like this doing so well right off the bat and I plan on returning. read more

My friend and I went in for a small bite and Milkstop did not disappoint! We ordered the coconut shrimp tacos and the bourbon bakes ricotta. Both of them were absolutely delicious but the coconut shrimp tacos were def the star of the show in my book. Our server was also very sweet, attentive and made excellent recommendations. My husband and I have been to the cafe twice. Both times were a very good experience. The food was excellent as was the service. The drinks were different than any other restaurant. The bartender is more like a drink creator. It is difficult for me because I have been on Keto for several months. Milkstop Cafe opened a few weeks ago and we were excited to give it a try. They are located in the west end of DTLG, so plenty of available parking. Our party of 4 arrived for our 6PM reservation and were promptly seated. Our server quickly arrived at our table to take our drink orders and answered our questions about the house specialty drinks offered. The drinks were creative and excellent tasting but a bit pricey ($12). Our dinner orders were taken and meals were served quickly. We ordered the roasted chicken, ocean trout and the cannolicci crema w/rock shrimp and baby kale. All were served piping hot, prepared perfectly and great tasting. Huge shout out to the roasted chicken though. Skin was flavorful and crispy and the meat juicy and tender. All tasted and agreed that the chicken was fantastic. Both the Manager and the Chef were out "working" the tables, soliciting feedback on service and food which is always a nice touch. Overall, Milkstop Cafe is a winner and it seems as though most of the opening kinks mentioned in some of the early reviews have been worked out. Give Milkstop Cafe a try. We will be back. read more

My husband and I decided to try this cafe for an early quick lunch on a Thursday. The staff is friendly and attentive, the food is OK, nothing special. The biggest issue is the noise level. Shortly after arriving, the cafe became very busy and my husband and I literally had to talk at the same volume as if we were in a noisy bar. This place (as of today) has been here a little under three months and after returning home, I stopped in to see what it was about. Sat at the bar for an early lunch and chatted it up with Susan. She was easy-going and pretty relaxed, even when it got super busy. I had a cappuccino, the shrimp tacos and a piece of chocolate cake. The coffee was great (they use illy brand espresso), the tacos were alright and the cake, although dry, had a great taste. Love the ambiance, very modern and traditional. Staff are all pleasant.
