This place is fantastic! Never heard of the place and decided to try after Yelp reviews. Sunday brunch! I ordered the quiche and prime rib sandwich. Both were amazing. The fries were perfectly seasoned. Every element of the sandwich was fantastic, and I don't even like horseradish normally. My husband ordered the cheeseburger as they were out of biscuits and gravy. My mom is having the fat burger, one serious chunk of ground meat. And she wants it rare . As opposed to the flat burger which is two flat patties. My shaved prime rib was medium rare and juicy served on a wet but not drenched bun. Yes, twas delicious. My lemonade is cold and served in a tall jar. Mom had Prosecco, but opined it was from a day old bottle and not at the peak of freshness. Still we are the first dinner customers so a little leftover booze isn't unexpected and if mom had complained I sm sure they would have brought a fresh glass. We did not give the Mikf Stop aIt wasn't completely flat and I think it worth including here as my Nit and my Pick. Fir desert I had vanilla shake to go. It came in clear plastic cup with a dome. The shake was seriously white and in the dome was a beautiful, nay majestic, tennis ball sized clump of even whiter whip cream. To die for. And At my age I probably will. Maggie was our masked server. At the end of the meal I asked who she was because I wanted to thank her. You know, like someone says at the end of every episode of The Lone Ranger. Maggie checked on us every step of the way. Anyway allow me a #metoo moment: If all the girls in La Grange, are as pretty and cordial as Maggie, the Lone Ranger isn't going to be alone very long. Head down the Burlington, across from the Stone Avenue station, Find yee a seat and eat all-American or have an adult pop, The menu lists all winners, as befits a new culinary creation. As a bartender/server who has been in the industry for 16 years I was grossly disappointed by Michael. I asked if I could have chorizo instead of chicken on my nachos. Instead of just saying no, Michael told us that "this isn't Burger King". My husband then asked about his favorite dish, and Michael said he would be "glad to tell us when he didn't have so many tickets in the well and wasn't so busy". He then made every guest who sat at the bar seem like an inconvenience by telling them how many minutes it would take him to get back to them. A guest asked for a Tito's martini and instead of providing him with what he wanted, Michael said "how about kettle", due to the fact Michael would have to restock the Tito's (even though there was an unopened bottle directly behind him). The service was beyond slow. There were multiple servers standing around and even a bar back that could have helped back him up. We will not be returning. read more

Cute neighborhood spot. I always judge a restaurant by their chicken. This was a bit dry, but the flavor was there. Maybe soak it in buttermilk for 24 hours. You'll thank me for this tip. Anyway, the showstopper for me was the Nutella Milkshake. Holy Cats! It is worth the visit for this alone! This was my first stop in and I wait a second stop at the Milkstop Café. We had two appetizers, the fish, double cheeseburger, and coffees. All of them are delicious. Entire restaurant, and clean the bathroom what is clean. The staff, and the owner, were all very friendly and welcoming. They encourage Gus to come back for the New Year's eve event. If I had to choose one word for how I feel about this place it would be "ambivalent." I just don't see it....yet. So many people rave, but I'm just kinda "meh." I've been here three times and each visit brought nothing but mediocrity. Maybe it's not their fault - maybe the hype has just set the bar too high for me. My last visit was over lunch. Service was brutal. We sat outside and saw our server like twice. We literally had to go in and find her at one point. I ordered a sautéed fish sandwich which was good, but way too soft (almost mushy) - no texture. Tip: if the fish is fried, serve on a fresh bun. If it's grilled or sautéed, toast the damn bun. I'm not convinced yet, but probably won't give up - mostly cuz my wife is a fan. read more

Went here for lunch on a Friday before Xmas and the place was packed. We sat at the bar, ordered a burger w/fries and their fish & chips. We really enjoyed both meals. We also ordered cocktails which were also good...and they didn't cheap out on the alcohol. The restaurant itself looks great, and we hope to make this a regular stop for us. We were happy with the service as well. Didn't notice any of the issues others pointed out. Might be that they worked out the issues in their first couple of months. One challenge they may have is this is kind of tucked away from the main strip of La Grange Road, so people may not think to head over there. Would definitely have to be popular with the neighborhood because you're not going to get a lot of people seeing it in traffic. read more

Very nicely prepared cocktails. A solid burger and fries. I guess my main problem was the atmosphere. The place has the look of a bistro except for 2 big screens at the bar with sports. They also had an all 70s rock playlist cranking. Is it a bistro or a sports bar? I think the food is good enough for them to concentrate on that. Ditch the rock for some jazz or fusion music, get some candlelight and it would be a very nice romantic bistro. read more

I hesitate to write this review because I want to support local businesses. Previously, maybe two years ago, I had a lovely lunch at Milkstop. Food was nice, our order was simple. I found the restaurant charming. Two or three weeks ago I asked a friend to join me there for dinner. The Good: Cocktails, whatever we ordered was nicely balanced. It was a type of Mojito. The So-So: dinner menu had a balanced number of offerings. We decided to get three or four appetizers and share them. It was disappointing. We ordered baked brie and it truly felt like they microwaved it. The crust, which we expected to be a bit late, hopefully flaky, was dense. The crust was cooked. The cheese was slightly warm certainly not soft as expected. The brochette was "fine." Overall flavor boring. Meat slightly tough. The other dish was totally forgettable. I can't recall. I was embarrassed. We didn't complain because the waitress was busy and all of the food was a bit blah, so it seemed pointless to say anything. The Horrible: Before leaving I used the restroom. Aside from the smell of the kitchen drains on the way to the door, the bathroom was unkempt and the floor was gross. It wasn't as if they hadn't cleaned it for a few days, it was as if they sloppily marked it for the past year with a bunch of gunk in the corners and it led me to be concerned how clean the sink, etc. was. I couldn't wait to get out of there. I don't understand how her restaurant which is appreciated by the community could allow the bathroom floor to get that filthy? Doesn't the manager check? I can't wrap my head around it. It is going to skip a review but after three weeks I felt I should post some thing because the condition of the bathroom wasn't just an unfortunate shift oversight. read more

I would give 3.5 My friend and I decided to split some super random things for dinner - chicken nachos, crab egg rolls, and Brussels sprouts. The chicken nachos were the only disappointment- chips tasted stale and not nearly enough cheese, also the chicken was just meh - no flavor at all. The grilled peppers were delish but definitely had to ask for extras. The crab egg rolls were excellent! Tons of filling and very good flavor. Brussels sprouts were large portion- I don't happen to like balsamic but they were nicely charred and still very good! My bf and I came here for a date night from a recommendation of another local friend and we LOVED IT! we both tried the potato soup based on the ROCK STAR waiters recommendation and being a potato soup aficionado I give it very high marks! I had the halibut and the bf had a sausage pasta and both were perfect. I thought the staff was great and while maybe it's a little loud(?) I thought it was a cool city-like vibe. We started with cocktails - I had a beer and my wife had the tequila moonrise cocktail (delicious!) as well as the crabcake egg rolls appetizer recommended by our server Margaret. We then moved to entrees - my wife had the Milkstop flat chesseburger. The cheeseburger was cooked perfectly with tomato, lettuce on a brioche roll. I had chef's special which was pasta with shrimp in a creamy pesto. Both dishes were delicious! Our server Margaret was outstanding and made excellent recommendations which drove our selections from the menu. This evening was our first visit to Milkstop Cafe but definitely will not be our last. 2 stars is because our party really loved most everything we were served for brunch, and would have rated food 5 stars. Had to remove 3 stars because our server was VERY upsetting. When I say he was rude, I can't even begin to list all the ways he was overly curt and arrogant. From the moment we sat down he told us we would not be splitting the check. Okay, we have a bigger party, he doesn't want the hassle, not ideal but doable. The tone though, he immediately set off our event negatively as he lectured and almost tried to humiliate us. Throughout the meal he told one member of our party "whatever" and rolled his eyes when she wasn't ready with her drink order, and hovered over our table the ENTIRE meal while leaning on a half wall, literally over the booth we sat in. He insulted another patron's behavior in front of us, did not listen to our full orders or waved us off if we had a follow up question to a menu item, and finally, gathered our receipts to check his tips while standing beside our table. When he felt we had over stayed our welcome, or didn't like his tips, he asked us to leave. When I tell you the restaurant was empty besides us, I am not exaggerating. We were a group of moms drinking cocktails and having brunch, we were by no means unruly or disruptive. We were shocked by his behavior and all feel we will never visit this restaurant again. This is a shame because the food was great and we left feeling so icky. read more
