"Peak LA, With a Side of Street Grime" Millie's is the kind of joint that's been around long enough to earn respect -- the walls (and sidewalks) tell stories. Unfortunately, so does the dog poop sitting five feet from your blueberry pancakes. We came for brunch on a Sunday, which is basically Silver Lake's version of Times Square. The place was slammed, with diners packed elbow-to-elbow along a narrow strip of sidewalk sandwiched between honking traffic and parked Priuses. My view? A shuttered Baskin-Robbins that felt like a metaphor for my dwindling expectations. Now, to be fair: the staff was awesome. Hustling nonstop, friendly, and efficient despite the brunch chaos. Respect where it's due -- they're keeping the train on the tracks. Food? Solid. I ordered the country fried steak and eggs -- steak was a bit overcooked and the breading leaned more egg wash than crisp, but it was still hearty and satisfying. My girlfriend's blueberry pancakes had more crunch than fluff, but still got the job done. Pistachio lattes? Fantastic. Creamy, nutty, exactly what you'd hope for in a neighborhood café with baristas who know what they're doing. The vibe? Peak Silver Lake -- tattoos, tiny dogs, and people who look like they DJ in their living rooms. Would I come back? Yeah... but only if I'm sitting inside. Getting to this spot, we saw a MASSIVE line out front. I guess this place recently went viral or something so naturally all the Post - Teens in LA are going there. I will absolutely commend them for how creative and well presented their drinks are. I had like a black vanilla coffee, and it was pretty good. To eat, I had some kind of like... slut breakfast sandwich. They do breakfast sandwiches incredibly well. Side of rosemary potato's are good, but I prefer them crispy. We were visiting our son last summer and tried their Pasadena location. Hubby has been craving their Chilaquiles so when we visited again, he wanted to head back. Well, son moved to the west side...fortunately this original location is a little closer so we headed here. It was a hot day but we had our dogs so we sat outside. They have a nice setup with umbrellas so it wasn't too bad. We sat down and asked for two coffees which we quickly had to cancel upon looking at the menu. They have a nice array of specialty coffees and drinks. I am lactose intolerant so I love that so many restaurants now have non milk alternatives. I ordered the Blueberry Oat Matcha Latte. Now I rarely order Eggs Benedict out because hubby makes a perfectly poached yummy hollandaise Eggs Benedict with sautéed spinach, bacon and avocado but he hasn't made it in a while so I ordered the California Benedict adding sautéed spinach. I get nervous ordering poached eggs out because often times the chef overcooks the eggs. I need to have the yolk oozing out when I cut into the egg. Well, needless worry. Eggs were perfect! It's a small restaurant with the majority of the seating being outdoors, but when in LA the weather is always nice to sit outside. Just remember that it is in Sunset Blvd which is a busy street. The coffee menu has a good selection and the coffee, matcha and chai all tasted great! Highly recommend anything off the coffee menu. We all ordered different items: Slutty Buns, Pork Belly Benedict, Barbacoa Chilaquiles and Avocado Toast. Everything was flavorful and didn't disappoint. I took my friend for breakfast . This is my first time coming here. I didn't know what to expect. The main dining area was outside and the staff greeted us right away. They were real friendly and attentive. I got the California omelette. The eggs were real fluffy and bacon was chopped but it was thick bacon. I would've gotten hash browns but we went on a Saturday and they only serve hash browns Mon. Through Friday. My wife got the usual breakfast which had great sausage links and pancakes were bomb. Millie's Cafe at first seemed like just any other brunch spot with basic options, small portions and high prices. But I was quickly proved wrong. They had some fun options, particularly with coffee. The portions were huge. Like literally two servings worth. And the food is so so good. It is pretty expensive, but like I said, the portions are huge, so you could just split and be pretty happy. The coffee is also pretty expensive without the benefit of size. If you see a unique flavor you want to try, try it, but otherwise, just forego it. read more

VEGAN REVIEW This is THE spot in LA for vegans to brunch with a non vegan group. I had the eggs with protein, and shared a waffle with the table. AMAZING. Pretty good chai latte, as well. I got the pancakes and ordered the Matcha latte. The food was pretty good and the service was quick. It's a very small place but has outside seating. We went early on Saturday around 8:30am. A waiting line started forming around 9:30ish. The servers were very nice. Overall, a very good breakfast experience. Their menu looked extensive. I definitely would like to come back and try some other items on the menu. Millie's is my go-to for breakfast. I usually get the lox benedict, but honestly everything on their classic American breakfast menu is fresh and tasty -- especially the pancakes and potatoes. I love this place! It could be overwhelming as the servers are trying to get you out as soon as possible. You'll have 5 waiters come up to you in the matter of five minutes asking for your order. Wow! That was my first reaction to Millie's. Reading the reviews, I was apprehensive. People are such complainers, aren't we? We expect every single perfect detail wherever we go these days. That's the "royal we". I don't. But I absolutely adored Millie's anyway. There was only a ten minute wait and we were welcomed to a nice four-seat table at the window. It was cheerful, bright and clean in the little (and only real) indoor dining area. Lots of tables were filled outside, though. Millie's is smaller than I imagined based on the size of the menu. OMG, that menu! A breakfast/brunch dreamscape. Soooo many vegetarian and vegan options. The four of us absolutely loved ours. Two people got the Slutty Bun, one person got The Usual and one got Eggs Benedict. You can get just about any dish on the what, 8-page menu, made with various proteins, vegetarian, vegan or carnivorous. We each had lattes: one regular, one Pistachio, one Blue Majik, and one Date Cardamom (see my pictures). They were all smooth and elegant. We had four servers, our main being the very patient and efficient Abraham. I say that because we were oohing and aahing over the choices for a good ten minutes while he stood there, helping but not rushing us. Being a city mouse, I felt right at home at Millie's. I love the unpretentious, down-home, upbeat, bustling vibe that spills out. We just plain ole had fun and then ordered things to take home. I gasped when the bill came, it was sooo reasonable. Came here with a friend for Brunch on a Wednesday afternoon. We were lucky enough to find parking right in front of the cafe and were seated immediately. The menu selection was great and has a bit of everything to choose from. They also have a special vegan menu which was great because as someone who's non vegan with a friend who is, it's sometimes a bit challenging to find a place that has plenty of options for both of us to enjoy. I opted for a lemonade that was a perfect ration of tart and sweet. Banana walnut pancakes without walnuts which was done without issue and a side of apple sausage. The Banana pancakes were large, had a good amount of banana filling, and came with a side of whipped butter and syrup. The apple chicken sausage was flavorful too. My friend ordered the vegan chilaquiles and a waffle with strawberries and bananas on the side and loved both items. The only negative I would have to say is the place is a bit cramped inside and prices were slightly higher than average but they do offer a large portion size to compensate. Enjoyed the add-on machaca to make it meaty and feel a little like loaded nachos. Lots of egg too, though I wish they mixed them in evenly instead of putting a blob on top. Only technical issue with the dish was that they could have used thicker tortilla chips, since they got a little soggy partway through the meal. Devil's Mess: A scramble with lots of personality and huge portion! So many nice spices in the egg mess. Ordered the hash browns and they did not disappoint. Served with a side of potatoes, and either a biscuit OR toast) *STRAWBERRY, BANANA & NUTELLA WAFFLE )Belgian Waffle topped with sliced strawberries, sliced bananas, a drizzled Nutella chocolate, and powdered sugar) -This is what my friend ordered *HEALTHY GREEN BURRITO (Scrambled Egg Whites, spinach, and white cheddar cheese; all wrapped in a spinach tortilla. Our family of 4 had a good run this morning and we planned to come here for a brunch. I ordered their Millies breakfast burrito with hash brown to share with my daughter. My husband ordered their egg Bacon and pork sausage with pancake to share with my daughter as well lol My daughter's bf got their apple sausage with scrambled eggs and potatoes plus pancake on the side with blueberries. Everything were good and have huge servings! The hashbrowns are perfect! The texture and crunchiness is A-ok! The burrito I had was huge but really good but except for one bad thing though - I love pancakes but theirs tasted a little bitter so we didn't get to finish them. I really wanted to eat them but only had a couple bites cause you can really taste the bitterness. Besides that, the staff and service were awesome. They also have outdoor seating with multiple amount of seatings and it's packed. That's why it also looked It's pretty cramped inside. I got the breakfast croissant and it was great, they have many coffee options as well! I really enjoyed brunch at Millie's. I was walking around Silverlake looking for breakfast and this place popped up nearby so I gave it a try. It was super crowded but they were able to seat us outside very quick and efficiently. I got the Devil's mess (scrambled eggs, turkey sausage, cheese, guac, source cream & salsa) to which I added spinach - so tasty! Eggs were well seasoned and it came with toast or a biscuit and potatoes. Yum! My partner got the new breakfast burrito which also looked tasty. My drink was also a big hit. I got the rose water matcha - this combo is a must try. It's strong on the matcha and light on the sugar which I liked (I am not a fan of super sweet drinks in general). The rose flavor added a nice touch of flavor and color. The service was very quick and efficient.
