I've been visiting Millies for many years. They recently moved across the street to the former location of Dakota. I don't know if this was a great move. A much smaller location, although they have patio seating, which is nice. My biggest frustration is the booth they sat my wife and I. It seems as if they pushed the booths so close together, you can barely sit there. Hope you don't have a big belly, you'll never fit. I literally had to pull the table to my body tightly just so I could let my wife try to squeeze into the booth. The other main frustration coming back here was listening to the servers explain why they are no longer at their previous location, sort of blaming the landlord - saying they didn't want to do any upgrades to the space. I don't know why the server felt the need to explain this in earshot of other customers, or even tell customers... likely a story the owners told the staff. I don't know why any landlord would not want to invest in making their spaces more rentable, especially seeing that NYPD (Pizza) just moved in to the old plaza. Unless they didn't want to pay more rent for making the place nicer. Finally, I wonder if they'll make it in this space? You can barely tell how you enter the building. They should put a big arrow pointing to the entrance. When we ordered, we were told that the food delivery people forgot to bring them potatoes, so they only had hashbrowns... heck, they are 1000 feet or less from Albertsons... you'd think they could buy a few bags of potatoes. read more

This was our first visit to the new location. I absolutely love this place and had a craving for Swedish pancakes I needed to get fulfilled immediately. It didn't take us too terribly long to get seated, and our waitress (who was absolutely lovely, btw!) quickly came over to bring us water and the menus. We're doing a sensory deprivation float (holla at Cloud 9 Flotation!) later today so a relatively light breakfast was recommended. No problem. As expected, I had the Swedish pancakes and DH had the Bohemian pancakes. No coffee for either of us (too much caffeine before a float is no good) but I had some iced tea. Our waitress was once again apologetic when she took the order and thanked us for being so patient and so nice. Definitely not a problem. The food came out not long after, and it was delicious. The Bohemian pancake is topped with delicious apricot compote and comes with a side of sour cream. Don't knock it till you've tried it. The combination is one for the ages. The Swedish pancakes, as usual, were delicious. ;) Since we were so patient, our waitress didn't charge us for my tea. We felt bad that people weren't being polite and/or were grumpy about having to wait. She did a great job. Once again, I love this place. The food is delicious, and the service is top notch. The environment was quaint and the service was quick. We tried the special brandy apple crepe, the pacific omelet and the Russian blintzes. I thought the Russian blintzes were the best followed by the crepe. And who would go to a pancake house without trying their pancakes? Millie's is one of my son's favorite 'go to' weekend breakfast spots- especially now that he can drive there! I have to say though, the 3 star rating on yelp is spot on. Don't come here expecting to be surprised or amazed- or be under any false assumptions that they are doing anything other than standard, uninspired, basic breakfast and lunch fare. (With that in mind, you won't be disappointed). The service is fair, and somewhat friendly, which balances out the fact that the food typically isn't all that great. I usually order bacon and eggs, a safe bet- but I was surprised when we ate there yesterday that the hash browns were soggy and not brown, and I was charged 50 cents for a tiny side of salsa to attempt to liven up my overcooked scrambled eggs. (I almost thought it was comical that they would charge for a one ounce side of Pace Picante Sauce). Bottom line- don't go to Millie's expecting miracles, and you won't be disappointed... As i entered Millies i liked the old fashion German decor, made you feel like you were dining in someones home. as i entered i was greeted and seated quickly. i had plenty of time to look at the menu like 15 long minutes. so when the waitress (very young) came to my table i ordered coffee and wanted to know what was the specialty of the house she replied that she didn't know. so i ordered a basic country breakfast 2 eggs,bacon and short stack of pancakes. pancakes were sweet and plain. honestly i wish IHOP was close by. Had a really bad experience eating at Millie's. This was Easter Sunday and there was not very many customers in the restaurant. We had two omelettes and pancakes. The omelettes were not cooked and had almost no cheese on them. This was a terrible breakfast. I complained about the food and the staff discussed this with the manager. They decided to give 10% off. This was just as bad as the food. We also took a doggy bag for the toast and pancakes which did save what would have been the worst breakfast I have ever had in years. Strange thing is they gave me a Fry's Grocery bag for the doggy bag. The service of bad food should have been taken off. The price tag of almost $30 for terrible food on Easter Sunday or any Sunday is horrific. The bread was old and tough with a thin layer of egg. Fruit was old and sour because lemon was used over it to make it look fresh. Service was fine, the servers try. Most of my food was not consumed and I didn't want to complain and make a scene. Millies is in a nice location. Plenty of parking. Very disappointing. I ordered the Bohemian pancakes which were listed as buttermilk pancakes with whipped cream and homemade apricot topping. I asked if it was real whipped cream like it said on the menu and the waitress said "No, it comes from a can." I asked well is it at least dairy since some whipped creams do come from a can, think Reddi-Whip, and she told me it was. The meal arrived and it was two large undercooked pancakes topped with a boatload of glimey apricot topping with whipped "cream" in a separate bowl. It had the bright white coloring and bitter taste of non-dairy whipped topping. (True Bohemian pancakes are a stack of small sour cream pancakes with whipped cream and plum jelly between the layers.) When I paid my bill I asked the lady behind the counter if it was real whipped cream, she assured me it was showing me the can that stated prominently "non-dairy whipped topping." Apparently that was news to her. I mentioned to the owner that it is misleading to state on the menu, and charge a high price for, real whipped cream when it is not. The Russian blintzes were also substandard. Rather then being a fully stuffed blintz, they were thin pancakes folded over with some cheese stuffed into the ends. My wife is of Russian heritage from Brooklyn and these were not authentic Russian blintzes. The service was friendly, perhaps to make up for it being so slow. So overall it was expensive for what we got and what we got wasn't too good. read more

Oh man, I was really rooting for this place. I'm a new transplant and I love a good pancake house, so I was excited to come here. Such a cute building and location! The menu had a lot of interesting options on it too. But I'm afraid everything we got was really disappointing. I had a breakfast sampler with scrambled eggs, ham and a piece of French toast. The French toast was cold, the eggs were limp and flavorless and cold. I split an order of Swedish pancakes with my partner. They were also cold and extremely dry. Honestly hard to choke down. Any other time I've had swedish pancakes, they're moist and buttered well, I've never had anything like this before. My partner had an omelette that was basically inedible. The Swiss cheese used was so pungent that it overtook the entire thing. His hash browns and toast were also cold. Our waitress was really sweet and we left her a big tip, as I know she can't help the food. I would give this place 0/0 stars if I could. Me and my mom went in to enjoy a nice breakfast at a new place and when walking in, we were so excited to try it. The building and decorations inside were beautiful. We were greeted and seated very quickly. The server came and got our drink and food order and successfully brought it out to us. That was the last time we saw our server our whole dining experience. She never came back to check on the food or refill our drinks. My mom opened her biscuits and they were ice cold and the potato pancakes we got were SO bland, nothing we could dip them in made them edible. We had patiently waited for our server to come back and check on us for about 45 mins so we could let her know our food wasn't good, nor fresh. We finally asked another employee passing the table if they could get us a manager so we can address the problems w them. After we asked for the manager the server was quick to come over and start an argument with us about how she "had bigger tables than us and they needed her service more" and she "brought the food out as soon as it was ready" so none of it was her fault. The manager then came over in the middle of her yelling at us for THEIR mistakes. We told the manager what our concerns/complaints were, which he in turn said "you guys can just get out. And don't ever come back." I can't believe a someone who handles situations like that can call themselves a manager. I really hope they get some more training on how to handle complaints. You take responsibility for what went wrong, apologize, and make it better. You don't blame the customer for your mistakes because you're "busy" and tell us never to come back. You're a restaurant in the middle of Trail Dust Town- you're gonna be busy. Get over it and learn good customer service. The only nice thing I can say about this place is that they demanded we get out right away, so we didn't have to pay for any of the product they throw on a plate and call food or tip the horrible server (not like she would've got a tip if I had to pay anyway). read more

This place has been here forever. Don't remember eating here before, but glad I did. The food was hit and miss. Service was polite and quick. I had apricot crepes and they were fattening and wonderful. My cousin had brandy cinnamon apple crepes and she also loved them. Who doesn't love anything sweet...hard to screw up sweet breakfasts... Now the downside, husband ordered cheese omelet, bacon and pancakes. Omelet was a vegetable one with spinach and onion. Finally after picking through the veggies for a few bites he returned it for a cheese one.... and as someone else said, not much cheese. Pancake was at best cafeteria average. Cousin husbands breakfast was bland and boring eggs, meat and potato plate from the same cafeteria. Don't need to go again unless it is for lunch and will try german food....not holding my breath for anything spectacular. A note about the interior. I think it is the same interior from 1970. I never knew this place existed until my neighbor invited my grandmother and I to breakfast. It's hidden in the back of the old saloon setup they have off Tanque Verde. Inside there is so much history of the business and Tucson. Almost made me feel like I was in a modern western type restaurant. But the breakfast here is amazing! I had the crepes with orange liqueur and the Russian Blintzes and oh my goodness we're they delicious! The food was plentiful and did not disappoint. Service on the other hand was so-so but maybe our server at the time was having a bad day. That wouldn't be a reason not to go but that's why I gave it a 4 out of 5. read more

Went to Millie's today for lunch. Have eaten there many times before and food was always very good. Not so today! Had always wanted to try the schnitzel so I did today. I ordered the salad and it was very sad. The celery was almost colorless and limp. The schnitzel was so dry I could barely cut it. I ordered the hunter gravy and it was lumpy. My husband and I go here from time to time but today was the last visit. I ordered a Turkey, Bacon and Avocado on a Croissant, minus the bacon. I had it before and it was on a nice croissant and was fresh. Today was different, The Croissant was tough, it had been heated I think in the microwave. The meat in the sandwich, the tomato, avocado and lettuce were very salty and FROZEN. It appeared to be something left over from a catering event and frozen. It was nasty and not something that should have been served. Needles to say I tried to eat it and left most of it on the plate. Am now feeling very nauseated and sorry to have eaten at Millie's. Don't think we will back. The waitress was shown the problem and really didn't care. After she saw the frozen sandwich parts she only came back to the table to hand us the bill. Millie's is like stepping inside of a custom made german cuckoo clock and eating the most fantastic pancakes of your life! I love the decor and they add fantastical touches for the holidays (without overdoing it!). Another thing to note up front is that I've never had to wait very long for a table of 2. It seems others with groups of 4 do not wait long, either. Their menu is HUGE but I do think that that pancakes/waffles are the star. Our waiter told us the eggs benedict are fantastic, though, so give those a try! This season they have pumpkin waffles that are absolutely fantastic!! They even come with cinnamon syrup :) The prices are fair, the waitstaff is fine (sometimes good, sometimes a little sour), and you can really customize any plate that you want. So, no real complaints here! They also have baked goods for sale - both flavored breads and regular loaves. A random side note - their booths are quite stiff which I believe increases the accessibility of the seating. Since all the seating is hard, it is is easier for people of all ages to get in and out of their chairs/booths. read more

The husband unit and I have been to Millie's a number of times, as they are right by our house, and have had really good experiences every time. The food is good, solid breakfast fare, though not knock my socks off fantastic, hence four stars. Each time we have gone there has been plenty of seating and we were served quickly. I tend to order either the Russian blintzes or the potato pancakes with coffee and bacon. Both are flavorful, leaving me satisfied, but not overly stuffed and they don't give me weird looks when I ask for both sour cream and apple sauce to go with the potato pancakes. The husband tends to order one of the combos so he can have a little of everything and always cleans his plate, growling a bit if I try to steal a bite. The decor is whimsical to the max which adds extra charm, making you feel like you are having breakfast at your old-world grandma's. I was clean shaven before we headed to Millie's this morning for breakfast. I grew a full on amazing beard while I waited for my breakfast. The beard is long and awesome. I look like a very young Gandalf. Thank you for the beard Millie! The western ommelet was mediocre at best albeit cold in the center (which is strange considering it took over an hour to make...) My wife is a picky eater but wanted buttermilk pancakes (with pecans mmmm) and I pretty much love all food so I tried the eggs Benedict and boy were we both super content with our choices! The pancakes were fluffy and crispy on the outside and the syrup was warm and perfectly delicious! The eggs Benedict were perfect and the house potatoes were amazing! I heart pancakes. Any kind. Does not matter. I don't discriminate. After arriving at 11 in the morning on a Sunday with my travel buddy/husband, we were quickly taken to a table where a menu of pancake goodness awaited us. After what felt like a presidential debate in my head, I ordered the the Swedish pancakes and Mark went with something that had two eggs, hash browns, bacon, and a buttermilk pancake. Swedish pancakes how I love thee! Very similar to crepes, they are light enough to not feel guilty about how many calories must be being consumed. I loved the Lingonberry jam that came with it, not too tart but not too sweet either. I finished my plate! Mark cleaned his plate as well! His hash browns were not from a freezer bag as like so many are and were delightful (I kept sneaking bites). If I lived anywhere in the general vicinity, my jean size would increase. read more

If you don't try their belgian waffles, you are a nincompoop. They are that good. I probably couldn't even be friends with someone who doesn't like their waffles. Wow are they good. The value is fantastic. The prices are so reasonable considering the quality. My wife had the banana pancakes, two eggs, Canadian bacon, home fries and iced tea. I had the two eggs, sausage, home fries, white toast, rotkohl, 2 potato pancakes a la carte with a side of sour cream and apple sauce, and orange juice. This is a lot of food, with tax, for only $28 - and eating less, you can still get stuffed for around $15 per couple. The pancakes were the best we've ever had in town - fluffy, delicate, obviously made fresh with pride. The syrup was served hot. The eggs, over medium, are cooked separately which I really like. The home fries were fresh and cooked with the perfect amount of crunch to them. The toast was made, I believe, from home-made bread and the jelly assortment was wide - marmalade, blackberry, strawberry and grape. The Canadian bacon was lean and very flavorful, as was the sausage. The potato pancakes were average, but the apple sauce is chunky and really great. I wish the apple sauce and sour cream were served in actual ramekins rather than to-go plastic ware, but no biggie. The rotkohl, which is a slaw made of red cabbage, is out of this world! Sweet and tart, served warm, with a little bit of spice to it - like nothing I've ever had before. Must try. As for cleanliness, the entire place is well maintained - dusted, clean windows, tables were cleaned, chairs were cleaned, booths, carpet, counter tops, etc., and well stocked with condiments. The restaurant was 3/4ths full during late morning, which really says something about how good they are. Service was great - smiley, attentive, fast, and accurate. Reasonably knowledgeable and refilled beverages. She brought ketchup and hot sauce without us requesting, which I really like. The busser was so fast and great at cleaning tables. We passed all this on to the owner, who was there cooking and was kind enough to take the time to come out and chat with us. He was very genuine and appreciative.
