You get ALL of that. It was all amazing! The chicken i got was beyond tender, falling apart & delicious. The service is amazing too. I am completely obsessed with spicy food. I spent 5 1/2 weeks traveling India and Sri Lanka tasting every curry I could get my hands on. I am extremely picky, and have come to realize that it's almost impossible to find Indian food in the US with the same spice that I had when I was in Asia. I happen to love Milon. The atmosphere just might give you a seizure. We had the pleasure of eating our last meal to the entire soundtrack of Slumdog Millionaire. It is a popular place for birthday parties. The lights dim (even further), a strobe light appears, and their idea of Happy Birthday blows through the speakers. It's a lot of fun. The waiters are so excited to have customers, they get a bit too friendly at times. I have been offered free appetizers just for entering their restaurant instead of the neighboring place. The price is right, you BYOB, and there's no corkage fee. I usually order the lamb vindaloo-spicy, butter/garlic nan (there's is the best), and a dal or shag ponir. They will serve you mango ice cream at the end of your meal. It is delicious, and tastes homemade. I don't believe in paying a ton of money for a decent Indian meal. It's nice to know I don't have to. You can have the pleasure of enjoying your meal, the ambiance, and your company at Milon. I prefer this restaurant to its neighbors, and have been fought over when trying to choose between them. The food is great too! If you are new to indian food, i suggest you order the following: For apps, naan, samosa; vegetable pakora; banana pakora; saag baaji. Granted they have barkers outside to lure you in as there are two other restaurants competing with them, but the food honestly speaks for itself. And it says "eat me I am amazing!" If you have eyeglasses, take them off and it'll feel like you're at a rave with "flashing lights" as Indian house music beats in the background. WAIT STAFF. The waiters are friendly enough. I read a review by Sara S. about them hitting on the ladies, but my girl friend and I weren't bothered at all (though we were with 4 guys). The service was quick and they kept our waters filled (I'm REALLY picky about always having my water glass filled at an appropriate level). FOOD. CHEAP. DELICIOUS. Oh. man. I just had an appetizer (poori bread with chicken curry) for $3.50. Yes, you read that correctly. It was tasty! I tried their strawberry lassi too. It was refreshing! I'd definitely go back if I weren't so paranoid about getting hit on by one of the waiters. The food at Milon is totally unremarkable, the bathroom is kind of gross, the waitstaff is friendly to the point of being sketchy, and there is no legroom to speak of anywhere in the restaurant. Yet somehow this place is one of my favourites in the entire world. There are honestly not words to describe this place. It's like every overstocked holiday (yes, holiday -- Christmas, Hanukkah, Easter, birthday, thanksgiving, tiki-themed, St Patty's...) decoration in every dollar store in the five boroughs went through a wormhole which opened up into 400 square feet of seizure-inducing glory in the East Village. It's BYOB, so hit up the Trader Joe's wine store on 14th on your way there -- the place only gets better halfway through a $7 bottle of wine. Also, when it's someone's birthday? The overhead lights go out, a strange techno-Asian version of the birthday song comes on, and all the lights begin flashing on and off. My friends and I couldn't decide on what to eat so we decided to try something new and stop by here. I've never seen any other restaurant with the unique decor that this one has, and was surprised when I walked in and saw a plethora of Christmas lights hanging from the ceiling. It's like I just got high on something and all I saw were Christmas lights and Indian music. Funny story. Before we even walked in, we were trying to decide on which restaurant to go to because this place shares the same storefront as 2 other Indian restaurants. The guys standing outside were trying very hard to convince us to go to their respective restaurants by yelling and screaming "come here, come here". We later decided to come here because there were a lot of customers already dining inside so it must've been good. When we finally got inside, we were surprised to see how cramped it was. Like everyone said, this place is a fire hazard. I bet they were trying to make use of the space by seeing how many tables they can fit in there. There was literally a one foot wide aisle they went through the whole restaurant that served as walking space. Luckily, (or unluckily) we were seated next to the bathroom, so that's a major plus. As for the food, we were served small entrees in the beginning. They all came with a variety of different dipping sauces. Wasn't really a big fan of that, personally. I later settled for the lamb masala and that came with rice. The serving size was extremely small, but good. I think I would've been full from 4 of these. But oh wells. To end the meal, we were literally served one small scoop of ice cream that was "complimentary". As we we ready to leave and asked the waiter for our check, he quickly calculated the total with his illegible handwriting. We paid $20 each for a total of 4 people eating which was way more than we'd expected. We all felt like he BS'ed the total. He also said "tip is included". Isn't it common courtesy at a restaurant to let the customers decide what the server deserves? Not the other way around? I always have a good time here. It's BYOB and the lights are lovely. Besides, it's always someone's birthday here! It's cash only but you can get cash back at rite aid and there are other atms in the area. The food is not the highlight of the experience here at Milon. Granted that I have been to all three "rival" restaurants in the same building - Milon wins. Yes, you will be greeted by a small army of men trying to get you into their restaurants. Yes, it's awkward when you go into one and not into another. Milon is the one on the top left. You can try going to the one on the top right if Milon is full but really avoid the downstairs one. It's awful, although it is the largest of the 3. Their menus are also very similar. This place will do its best to accommodate you and your friends. It's one of the few places that won't party poop on your party if someone is missing. They will sit you. They will let you start downing your $3 tjs bottle. Came here on a Monday evening with a friend (and their cousin) visiting from out of town. I'd been to the neighboring, and infamous, Panna II, on a few occasions and had always been curious about the other restaurants in the cluster of four. As we walked up the stairs, there was the innocent, yet border-line aggressive, urging of greeters who's sole purpose is to get you to come into their restaurant. I don't mind it so much but could see how someone else may find this dynamic a bit annoying. Like its counterpart next door, you walk-in to the restaurant and are bombarded by an orgy of lights and other items (fake flowers, flags, mini-beach-balls, etc). There is definitely no shortage of stimulation in this uniquely decorated establishment. I do Meatless Mondays so I searched the menu for the vegetarian options. I ended up ordering the Kufta Kurma which are dumplings of vegetables and mild spices and herbs in a cream sauce with coconut, raisins, and almonds. It was served with rice. It was flavorful but felt a bit starch-heavy for my personal preference. It tasted like I was having a plate full of rice, potatoes, and cheese. It wasn't horrible but more of an experience where I experimented with an unknown dish and was not very impressed. The main challenge with the meal, however, was not the food. It was that it quickly became cold due to this Arctic-blaster type air conditioner (See pics; it literally was a pipe blowing very cool air) that was blowing directly across the center area of the restaurant where we were sitting. I couldn't believe it! No bueno. SMH. Would I go back? Absolutely! The only redeeming quality about this place is the BYOB. Honestly, my friends and I planned to go to Panna right next door but the line was of course extremely long and the guy standing outside this place was yelling at us to come in. We were all hungry so we figured it was worth a shot. No no no no no. From the moment we were seated, we were rushed to order and had to ask several times before someone would come to uncork our bottles. The rice was dry and clumpy and the naan is not actually naan!! It's just pita bread. The chicken tikka masala was okay but bland. The lights hanging from the ceiling are nice to look at for about 5 seconds until you realize that the low ceilings cause you to walk into every strand of lights there is when you have to use the restroom. I LOVE this place. However, it is true, the owners of the other restaurants will try to get you into their eateries, although I can't help but wonder if they are all in cahoots somehow. This review is for MILON, up the stairs and to the left. Low prices: the food isn't the best Indian food you've ever had or will have, but it's pretty good (I'd give it a 7 or 8 out of 10), and at these prices, a great value. BYOB: they provide glasses if you bring wine, and THERE IS NO CORKAGE FEE. Not to mention a nice little wine shop that sells Spanish wine just a couple of doors down. This and the fact that it's near Union Square and Trader Joe's wine shop make it a great place to pregame a bit before going out. And the ambience! While a friend of mine describes it as looking like a Christmas tree just barfed, and it's kinda true. With lights and other decorations for just about every occasion you can think of, it's always one holiday or another at Milon. It is a little cramped -- if you're anywhere over 5 foot 6 or so, (1.68m), be prepared to duck as you walk to your seat. Another word of warning: the first time you eat there, it might be a bit difficult not to stare at the lights. The reason you go here is for the decor. We were told to haggle outside as there are 3 restaurants, all with the same lights, trying to force you to enter their establishment. The tip is ask which one of these places will give you complimentary naan. All agreed immediately, but then the one on the top right, the recommended one, tried to force us inside and grabbed one of the girls in our group. This meant we told him to leave us alone immediately. We chose this place as they said in addition to complimentary naan they'd give us a free appetizer. We sat down, took our obligatory photos and ordered our complimentary naan/appetizer. The server, who I believe was also the manager, refused saying they would never offer a complimentary appetizer. After some arguing he told us we could leave if we wanted. I took him outside where the man on the door confirmed the offer. The manager/server reluctantly told us he'd give us our free appetizer but we had to order 3 dishes and eat quickly. We were going to order more than 3 dishes anyway, but at this point we were done with the rudeness. We walked out and went to Luke's Lobster Rolls up the street. While I can't speak for the food, the service, harassment outside, and generally being treated like shit, isn't something anyone should put up with in a city that is spoilt for choice with Indian restaurants. When I went inside, I honestly was taken aback. Where the hell was I!? It was a cramped little place with hundreds of lights strewn everywhere. It's like I went to Narnia on LSD. Anyway, my boyfriend and I were squeezed into this table where we were about centimeters away from the next one. Oh and because of the tight space, the waiter spilled some green sauce all over my bag..which is cool, since I'm a very calm person and pretty apathetic. My bf ordered since I have zero knowledge on Indian/Bangladeshi food. To further prove my point, here is what we ate: some potato and cauliflower dish, a lamb dish with yellow sauce and something he called "Indian hummus". The dishes lacked strong flavors. They were just right, bordering on bland. But they were still enjoyable. I was expecting some kind of insane, exotic tastes but oh well, I'm easy to please. On the brighter (no pun intended) side, there was a birthday! What a joyous event indeed. It's been almost a week since I ate here and I think I am STILL full. We were planning on going to a place nearby that was going to have us waiting on the cold streets so instead, ducked into here on the recommendation of a friend. While all the restaurants nestled around this one look more or less the same, I'd suggest going here! Overall, it was cheap, quick and pretty tasty. We went with the Chef's Recommendation to be shared between two. For only $32 we got tea, soup, a samosa with two other fried bites, two types of bread (I loved their naan), rice, cabbage, mango ice cream and the main dishes- chicken and beef tikka masala. As we finished one dish, another seemed to follow immediately whether we liked it or not. As everyone else says, it is BYOB and I think I saw people with just about every type of alcohol on their tables and birthdays (and fake birthdays) being celebrated everywhere. I had seen Milon in an advertisement before and it looked really cool inside - music, pink décor, Christmas lights, and delicious Indian food. So, of course I had to verify with Yelp whether or not it'd be good to go, and Yelp gave me the thumbs up because of two things: Cheap food and BYOB. At first, I thought I had the address wrong, I thought it'd be on a corner. Little did I realize that if you walk further down the street, there are four restaurants of the same type that I just mentioned - Music, pink décor, Christmas lights, and Indian food (can't verify if they're delicious or not since I haven't tried them!). Anyhow, the men standing in front of the door practically harass you to come into their restaurant. Surely enough, they're not rude about it, but they just try very hard to get you in- all four of them. Of course, I had to opt for Milon because I had already known I was going there (Yelp review and everything checked!). Note for you, it's the one on the left side on the second floor. Upon entering, we were seated by the door (not the best if it's kinda chilly because they do leave the door open for quite a bit since they are getting people to come in). Anyway, they opened our bottle of wine for us and were super polite. They even gave us a bucket of ice, even though we just asked for ice! They're also pretty good with filling up the water and all as well. Now, onto the food - of course, they always place those three sauces and a type of very thin flatbread with sesame. I've had this in almost every Indian restaurant but this was good since none of the sauces were spicy! We also had to order naan, which is like pita bread. I always get chicken tikka masala because it's a classic (and also very hard to mess up). It was great, very nice chicken and sauce. The basmati rice was also good - although I wish we had more! My friend and I shared one plate, even though we both ordered almost the same thing (she had beef tikka masala, which is much more flavorful, but comparable to the chicken). They also gave a small mango ice cream on the house, which was appreciated. The price wasn't too bad, maybe $15/person. Also, if you're looking for a really fun night, I'd suggest coming here. It's not the type of place for deep conversations - they play loud music to get the crowd going and making sure that they enjoy themselves. It was someone's birthday, which brought even more joy! Tiny and narrow restaurant that's gaudy as all get out. The amount of lights streaming this place is enough to light a small Bangladeshi village. I came here with a birthday party of 13, and still cannot fathom how we got in and out of our seats. The entire place feels like a joke, from the rowdy men gesturing wildly for you to come into their establishment. To their shiny beacon of a restaurant that gets you in the door, if just to see what all the Xmas lights madness is about. I'm not sure what warrants Bengali food, but the food here was pretty good. I shared the Shah Jalal Dinner for 2 with another friend, and it came with plenty of food, including soups and garlic naan, main entrées and desserts. I opted for their Lamb Rogon Jous dish (a play on rogan josh or just really bad spelling), which was cooked in a creamy and spicy almond curry sauce. Scooping the curry with the naan bread was superb, that I didn't even touch the biryani rice. It was also BYOB so put some friends on that duty. As the night wore on, the roof did feel like it was caving in. Perhaps the alcohol had something to do with it, but mostly it was the increasing number of patrons in such a tight space. This is a really cute place. It is so colorful and very fun atmosphere. Whenever there was a birthday they would turn the lights off and a very catchy and fun birthday song comes on. Did I mention that it's BYOB?!?!? The food overall is very good and portion sizes were decent for me. I think the only thing about Milon is that it's not exactly a large group friendly restaurant. It is very small width wise. We had a small problem with their calculation of our bill but they were very understanding and easily fixed it for us. Indian food and a byob place?! Sold. What a fantastic idea! If the food was actually great. Wah wah. The restaurant is actually above another Indian restaurant and on that whole row of Indian nooks where they have hecklers begging you to come in. However, this place actually does get a good line forming outside of it after 8pm. So, good thing we got here before 7 this weekend. I'm pretty sure the reason for the line is underage drinking. As we were finishing our meal and bottle of wine, literally a troupe of over a dozen high school students filed in with their bottle of Svedka and ordered 15 cans of sprite and maybe 2 orders of Naan bread. Happy Birthday?. . . . . I personally felt slightly awkward and then thought inside of my head I guess I would want to do something like that as a youngling. The room is very long and narrow and very tightly cramped. Also, if you are over 5'5" tall you will find it difficult standing because the ceiling is covered with an enormous amount of lights and thing-a-ma-bobs. 2 of my friends ordered the dinner special. It comes with a variety of appetizers including a samosa and a fried banana pakora, papdum and a bowl of soup with any entrée order of masala or kurma. I figured this would be way too much food for me. So I split an order of the Paratha naan bread. Which was very light and fluffy and buttered in a pan. And for my entrée I had the lamb vindaloo. One of my friend's had gotten the chicken Kurma and the other two went with the chicken and the lamb masala. So we had a good variety of dishes to sample. The kurma tasted like any conconut milk concoction. Very sweet and creamy but my friend insisted she had better. Not sure on Kurmas because I don't usually go for sweet and creamy dishes. But she enjoyed it. Both of the Masalas were not spicy at all even though both of my friends asked for medium spicy and extremely spicy. And my lamb vindaloo was pretty pathetic on the scoville scale of heat. The sauce had good flavor though so I will give it that credit. But I'm ready to move on to the next level of intensity. Even my little friend that is deathly afraid of spicy food, which I find hilarious, agreed that both of the Masalas were weak and mine was almost bare-able for her after she chugged her glass of water from the vindaloo. After finishing our meals and while sipping our delicious Shiraz, we decided it was going to be my fake birthday tonight. So someone told the waiter and SURPRISE! They come out with this awesome Bollywood music blasting and everyone in the restaurant starts clapping. It's amazing. I'd come back just for the happy birthday music. But we got free scoops of mango ice cream and I got to blow out a candle. We weren't too rushed even with finishing our last glasses of wine, while there was a long line waiting outside. "Please, come in" beckoned the nice host/bouncer from atop the short staircase leading to one of the East Village's many Indian cafes. Milon looks like many of the others - strands of gawdy chili pepper lights, inflatable beach balls decorated with cartoon characters, and many other hideously festive displays. The area around East 6th Street is packed with authentic Indian culinary shrines, often making it difficult to discern which would provide the best dining experience. Luckily, a friend introduced me to Milon, a true hidden gem. We were ushered into the intimate dining room, where our server was extremely friendly and helpful with our selections. Our side order of Naan was soft, doughy, and delicious. The Chicken Tikka Mussalam contained tender chicken in an aromatic coconut sauce and tossed with crisp almonds. The grilled Chicken Tandoori was enhanced with bold Indian seasonings. Both entrees were served with fresh rice. We were pleasantly surprised by the bonus scoop of creamy mango ice cream, which calmed the spicy festivities dancing around on our tongues. There was a birthday being celebrated at a neighboring table, and apparently this restaurant is a common place to celebrate such an occasion. The waiters gather around to serenade the birthday person, and the small space encourages all fellow diners to join in with their new acquaintances. Great atmosphere for birthday parties with the crazy chili lights and banners such as "Happy Halloween, Happy Easter, etc" all over the wall. Space is quite tight although that's part of the fun of it. I suggest sharing a bunch of curries to make it easier but if you want your own meal, you can get a good deal with appetizers, main course and dessert. Chicken tandoori was pretty standard, the Reshmi Kebab ( boneless pieces of chicken breast cooked in curry masala sauce with onion, pepper and tomatoes) was absolutely amazing! Years ago, virtually every restaurant on 6th Street offered fabulous lunch specials. Most of these places either closed or moved to midtown. A few -- like Milon -- remain, and I have to say, lunch was surprisingly good. The owner --at least I think he's the owner -- lured us in. We were heading to the establishment downstairs, and he tricked us into believing they were one and the same. (When I walked in and saw the craziness hanging from the ceiling, I realized my daughter had been there, and liked it.) Ok. The nitty gritty. $8.95 lunch special. Started with a mild tomato-based soup (rasam?), followed by really good samosas. Of course there were zingy condiments on the table, a nice peppery papadum, plus cabbage and lentils. My friend and I each had chicken tikka -- cooked perfectly -- with basmati rice. Even a little scoop of ice cream for dessert. I like this place. Stopped here with my boyfriend on our weekend getaway and what an interesting experience it is to dine here. The Christmas lights are pleasantly overpowering and magical at the same time. Great location for a cute date in my opinion. The food came out very quickly and was delicious. You could tell that it was authentic as well. I ordered the chicken tandoori. Was very happy with it. Very tender and flavorful. Highly recommend. My bf ordered the chicken biryani and unfortunately the chicken was very dry but over all the dish was flavorful. The only issue I had with this place is that it is CASH ONLY. The servers did not point that out before we ate here. There are about three (maybe four?) Bangladeshi restaurants literally on top of each other, occupying the same building. Mion is the one up the stairs on the left side. It can be a little intimidating walking through that immediate area when literally someone from each restaurant is right outside wanting you to come in. My girlfriend warned me ahead of time. Inside, it's a bit of a trip. There are bright, multi-colored lights dangling pretty low from the ceiling. We got the table by the window so we could look outside and not look at the lights the entire time. Food was good, though I was trying to find something more Bangladeshi than Indian, but ended up getting a standard staple (chicken tikka masala). Anything pakora is deep-fried; we ordered the eggplant pakora and it was ok. I did like the naan; a little thicker than I expected and was very fresh. The music is just a tad on the loud side, and if it's anyone's birthday, they'll play a louder track of Happy Birthday that sounds like it's from a Bollywood movie. read more

This is my go-to indian/bangladeshi food place in Manhattan. Sure, it's not the most amazing indian food I've ever had - but for the price? You not only get SO much food but you get a whole eating experience. This begins when you walk up to the building and find yourself with *three* different restaurants fighting over you. They're all generally the same but I liked Milon's personality the best... their staff was always friendly and talkative, especially compared to Royal Bangladesh's wait staff who seemed to hate coming to my table for some reason. Anyway, money wise what you can't beat is their lunch special. On a normal basis you can get an entree for about $7-8, and then you pay for nan on top of that... it's all very cheap but their lunch special is ridiculous. All of the usually house specials they give you for free (like lentil soup, cabbage) plus your entree, another bowl of a different kind of soup, one piece of nan, for about $6. How that even adds up is beyond me but I just know I got a ton of food for my dollar. Also, love the complimentary mango ice-cream they throw in at the end. Especially since they actually give each person their own bowl, unlike at RB downstairs. Finally, the Christmas lights! I love the density of the lights in Milon! They really go all out. I especially love sitting in that front window and people watching with the lights going on all around you. It really is like eating in another world. read more

Picture yourself in the East Village for a sec. You're with friends and it's about time for dinner. You smell curry and say "Why not Indian?" You walk over to a nondescript building, like any other in the area, and find the one your friend recommended from Yelp. But it looks like there's three Indian restaurants... At one address. Out of nowhere, three different waiters from the three different restaurants are holding their doors open welcoming you to come in and jibbering what sounds like a mix of dinner specials and Bangladeshi swear words. Finally someone just says "That One!" and off you go. We chose Milon. After we chose, everyone else that made the same decision was met with cheers. The others, more foreign swears. Likely they all have the same or similar menus, same authentic staff and cooks, and same decor. I knew my first NYC Indian food experience would probably include a little curry, some naan, and likely an authentic accent or two. I had no idea the restaurant would look like a 1970's acid trip. Just glad I'm not prone to seizures. Dinner was DELICIOUS, spicy and just how we all liked it. We thought ahead and knew Milon was BYO so we grabbed a 6-pak of Brooklyn Lager from the bodega next door. Just for fun next time, I'll try and negotiate an extra scoop of ice cream. read more

Anyone looking for authentic bengali food shouldn't go here. We landed up here due to our quest of bengali food in Manhattan, however, the food and experience completely threw us off. It started from the entry where 4 similar restaurants are trying to get in the same customers by loud Hawking techniques - seriously! Give an individual a choice where the person wants to eat. On entering the unusual decor hits you - the tent of light strings is straight out of a cheap glitzy affair. The people working here try to do a decent job, however, the food is pathetic! They tried to cater to the most frequent customers that have left the food neither authentic nor tasty. Avoid the cluster of restaurants at this place at any cost. read more

If I could give this NEGATIVE stars I would. This place is HORRIBLE. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. The manager was extremely RUDE. We were a party of 15 and made reservations for 8 pm for my friend's birthday. We were seated at 8:55 pm. When we were seated, the manager told us to pay $25 per person because that was apparently their "group policy." We told him that we didn't know about this and he never mentioned it when the reservation was booked. His response was YOU NEVER ASKED. Wow. So we asked him to give us back the cake that we asked to be refrigerated when we first arrived. His response was NO. Are you serious???? Luckily one of our friends was able to ask the waiter. Honestly, the decor isn't even worth the trip here. The restaurant is like the size of a hallway. And I mean elementary school hallway.... I mean this place was so narrow you and the waiter have to take turns walking up and down Food was mediocre, and this is coming from a Bangladeshi person. The food came out wayyyy too quick for it to be fresh. We ordered the Jalfrezi and Tikka masala. The Tikka masala was horrid. Didn't even taste like Tikka masala to be honest. Everything about our experience at Milon was pretty entertaining. Milon is a bit of a whole in the wall and we had to navigate away from Indian restaurants below, and right across from it that were trying to get us inside. It took them a little to arrange our table, about fifteen minutes, but this was understandable given the small enclosed corridors, and the fact that we had a group of fifteen showing up at various times. The waiters were very friendly, and did a good job jokingly, yet respectively, handling our own Indian Princesses' birthday celebration. The waiters were very accommodating, jovial, and were quick to joke around with us and answer our requests. Sadly, they did not have the Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack, but played an array of Bollywood beats. Definitely BRING YOUR OWN ALCOHOL. The meal was cheap, well proportioned, and delicious. The atmosphere was also an experience.....between the waiters interacting with our group and trying to fit fifteen seats together, the light displays, and Bollywood music. My biggest complaint might have been that the restaurant made me feel like I was in Mumbai...in the sense that it was extremely crowded, we were crammed and could barely move, and were right next to a heater that made it much too hot. Came here a few nights ago for a friend of mines birthday. Not used to going to Indian theme places but this spot was pretty cool. I didn't have any of the food cause I got there kind of late after everyone else showed up and the last time I had Indian food I wasn't too fond of it but from what the other invites of the party has from what I saw actually looked and smelled pretty appetizing. If I ever do come back to this restaurant I will definitely take part in there food. The waiters are so so...I asked them for a glass so I can pour myself some of the liquor that we had at our table and it took so long that I had to ask twice. Maybe they were just overwhelmed by that amount of people at the table. Also the ceiling is extremely low. I don't know if that is Indian tradition but I'm not even a tall guy like that and needed to nod my head so I wouldn't hit my head on any of the decorations. $55 for 4 people, in NYC, including beers. Hard to argue with that. This place is fun, quirky, good selection of decent food, with a staff that seemed eager to please. A very tight space with small tables - definitely not for the claustrophobic. The other reviews were accurate, but it's worth repeating. The competing hawkers out front trying to get you into either Panna II or Royal Bangladesh, the multi-color string lights covering every inch of the ceiling, the very small dining room packed with small tables, and what appears to be a tiny kitchen, the non-traditional sitar music. Nevertheless, the food was served quickly, the portions were decent, and the staff eagerly went out and bought us beer (still not sure whether it was from one of the other restaurants or a bodega or somewhere else). Cash only - but there is an ATM right out front. Those lights - fun to look at while a bit buzzed - don't look too closely at the power strips all over the walls and ceiling - like a lot of New York, makes you wonder how this place passes inspection! read more

My friends and I heard about the interior decor of this place, so we decided to check it out. After seeing that there are two almost identical Indian restaurants next to each other, we decided to come into Milon (on the left side) as it got higher ratings. The food is good with heart portions, but the menu is incredibly overwhelming. We ordered Naan, Banana Pokora, and the Cheese & Spinach Poori for appetizers. For dinner, we had Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Tikka Mussallam, and Chicken Makhtani (a lot of Chicken i know). All was enjoyed and very filling. The decor is pretty fun. The place is covered in lights, flags, and stickers on the walls. It's definitely a sight! It's cramped though, which is unfortunate. We were crammed up against a radiator and got to rub knees and play footsie with each other. Service wasn't bad and the food came out quickly. It's cash only, but the items are all very reasonably priced. Also, BYOB, so remember to grab a six pack before you come in! Overall not great, but It was worth some decent food and a fun story. read more
