This was almost a one star review. As a matter of fact, we were about to leave and never come back; but a staff member (Randee D.) convinced us to stay despite everything and I'm glad we did. This has been my favorite destination for Mother's day brunch for the past 10 years. The buffet has always been great! However I did notice last year that the place was not as busy as it was in years past and our service was not that great. Despite being a mom, there with my son for mother's day brunch, I was not offered a rose like all the other moms. I still don't know why, but my son finally asked our server if I could have one. But this year started off much worse. After being seated and offered glasses of water, I asked if we were free to head toward the buffet (as usual). Our server then told us that they were no longer doing the buffet. This year they had a special mother's day brunch menu were you could select what you wanted as your four course meal. I was so disappointed I felt myself tearing up. My husband and I grabbed our phones and quickly started looking for another place nearby that had a mother's day brunch buffet. While searching, Randee D. came to our table and apologized for no one informing us about the major change this year and promised us if we decide to stay, despite it not being the usual buffet that I've come to love over the years, that she would personally see to it that we have a good experience; and she did. She personally took our orders, was incredibly thoughtful and very helpful as my husband is vegetarian and also a picky one at that. I couldn't decide what I wanted for my main course so she literally had the chef put a bit of EVERY main course on my plate! I had roast chicken, filet mignon, salmon, and lobster. Obviously this is not what one would typically get under normal circumstances, but dang, this woman was determined to make my mothers the best! The food was great, everything was cooked perfectly. The meats were tender, the salt/seasoning levels were spot on. My husband was even able to enjoy a piece of cheesecake because unlike so many other places, they make a classic baked cheesecake rather than the kind made with gelatin that sets in a refrigerator. This was a wonderful mother's day brunch. Seriously. The food, the service, especially the service, was great. Am I disappointed it wasn't the buffet I expected? I was, but not anymore. I wouldn't have wanted this mother's day brunch to be any other way this year. Thanks Randee! You deserve a raise for working so hard to provide such great service! read more

Staff was incredibly friendly and the soup was delicious. Wine was good too. Salmon on the Caesar was obliterated- like rubber. I travel a lot and salmon Caesar is my go to at Marriotts. You can always tell a chef who hasn't had a good piece of salmon. I get it- it's a hard protein to nail but when you do, it's awesome. This was far from awesome. The server quickly and graciously removed it from the bill. Other than that, the atmosphere was nice and comfortable and wait staff was awesome. read more

It's a nice open space so it's good place to bring kids however, our server was not good at her job. The food was pretty bad and made the whole family sick..... Unfortunately my grandparents live it so I'm sure we'll go back lol. Our server was just rude. You know when you're thanking your server and she's not doing a good job? Annoying. I realize one shouldn't order salad at a bar, but when it's late and you're staying at the hotel, laziness makes one convinced it can't be that bad. But it is. Ordered the chicken Asian salad. Now imagine that thick, cheap teriyaki glaze you buy at the grocery store to marinate your chicken... and then decided it would be great to dump the whole bottle on some lettuce. And while your at it, dump a second bottle on a dry cooked chicken breast, too. Save yourself and stick to bar food if you dare venture here. read more

I was not expecting much from the hotel restaurant, so I was pleasantly surprised by my experience at Charley's. I started off with a cheese board, which was only $10 and came with so much food. I could have stopped there and been full, but alas, I continued to eat and was consistently pleased. I ordered a salad, which had a unique combination of toppings (cranberries, bleu cheese, squash, arugula, and some other things I think) and sweet potato fries. I ate creme brûlée for dinner, which was maple flavored and honestly, it was not the best I have had but I had been craving creme brûlée for months, and this worked to fulfill that craving. The only complaint i have is that the ranch I got with the fries was not very good at all. However, everything else was super good and I really liked the cranberry bread served before everything else. I think the cheese board is what makes this review 4 stars and not 3 though, it was just such a good deal and had a great variety of options. read more

We dined at Charley's two nights in a row. Wow - what a nice atmosphere and service, what incredible food. We were very surprised and pleased! Charley's House Salad was incredible, mixed greens with crumbled cheese, grilled vegetables and a Raspberry dressing - heavenly. The Tortellacchi Pasta, what a treat. The Walleye Reuben, a dream. So we came back a second night. The Goat Cheese appetizer, stunning. The Spicy Sausage Pizza, perfect. Dessert we enjoyed the Sticky Almond Coffee Cake with a scoop of Vanilla Ice Cream, again wonderful. Compared to other restaurants, the food was superior, the service excellent. We had a reservation for the 5 of us at 5:30. We ordered food within 5 mins or so because we had a concert at 7. Our server came to our table three times to tell us that our food would be out shortly, but it never came. By 6:30 and after waiting over 50 mins we informed our server we had a concert and couldn't wait much longer. She said the kitchen was backed up and there were three tickets a head of us and would be another 10-15 mins. We told her we couldn't wait any longer and left. We were very disappointed with the server and service. We were never once told that it was going to be a long wait for our food. If we had known that beforehand, we would have left earlier. We were starving and had to go to the concert without eating. I would not recommend this restaurant. read more

I was very happy with the overall service that was provided by the staff there. I have stayed at The Depot Renaissance a few times and I usually order food from them instead of going out. I wasn't blown away by anything that I have had so far. The pizza was average and so were the burgers. They did talk me into trying the sweet potato fries and I will definitely be getting those again. I always take my daughter to the hotel because of the waterpark so I have ordered her a kid's meal and she wasn't a huge fan. She did, however, really like the Oreo cookie treat that they give with her meal. We have also had tickets for the breakfast buffet as well. It was an average buffet with most things you would see at a continental breakfast along with your typical eggs, bacon, hash browns, etc. They also have a chef that will make an omelet to order. read more

Here on business and decided to eat at the Renaissance as it was nearby. It was very slow, almost no one seated. The service was awful and I was ready to walk out when the server brought the food. The Caesar salad was unremarkable, like I might make for myself. The Filet Mignon was outstanding. Cooked exactly as I expect medium rare to be. And the beef was very tender. I imagine there was some staffing issue resulted in the poor service, but they can select and cook a great steak. read more

The red headed server rolled her eyes at me when I ordered and when I asked for more ranch she gave me a look and she checked back with me a total number zero times! I wanted another beer but apparently she was not having it! I typically visit this place a couple times each business trip never again! So sad! read more

We were staying at the residence inn next door arrived late evening wanted something close. They were not very busy and the waitress forgot our water and beer, another waiter stopped at our table to find out about our drinks he ended up getting them. ok the service at this place sucks. i almost gave it 2 stars just because i was there for a surly event but the service was so bad. i showed up around 6 - my buddy was stuck in traffic probably showed up a half hour later. no server stopped by my table in that half hour. i walked up and omar from surly filled me up a free beer. my friend showed up - we both waited for another 15 minutes or so and still no service. finally we stared down a waiter passing by and he barely stopped asking "are you two alright?" but still didnt ask if we wanted to order anything just walked inside while my friend went to get his beer. so we drank our beers for another 15-20 minutes no service. a waitress stopped by to put down place settings and said "dont mind me, we're just putting down place settings for dinner" finally i asked if we could order something and she said yeah sure. this was about an hour after being there and i had to ask if it was alright to order something? my cheeseburger wasnt that good, pretty dry and plain. i've made better at home. anyways we ended up getting free surly all night because surly and their owner is just plain awesome. this doesnt hide the fact that the depot's service sucked. i mean i put up with bad service here and there especially if a place is really packed, but this was just terrible. i would not go back there unless there was another surly event or something else really awesome going on. read more

What a surprise! We were staying at the Depot and just decided to eat at this restaurant - easy quick...and what a surprise!!! We let the Chef run w/ our meal. First the Wheat Berry salad was out of this world...I could have stopped there. But add the short ribs, Sea Bass, grilled veggie (which were flippen fantastic) and top it off w/ the Carmel Chocolate desert - seriously ....a great surprise of a restaurant. The Chef came out and met us. Our server was fun and attentive. Don't miss out on this. Well worth the visit. Nicely done by the team!. read more
