The booths really need a good cleaning. Wipe them down with disinfectant and get the vacuum attachment, those crevices are disgustingly dirty. It's not your grandma's French cafe, as it was known to cater to an aging clientele. We used to be regulars at the Mimi's Cafe in Long Beach, when our son was young and that restaurant was buzzing. Alas, youth doesn't last forever, and neither did the restaurant in Long Beach. Mostly for nostalgic reasons, I decided to stop by at the Lakewood branch for lunch. It's right across the street from work, so it's convenient and obvious. I was impressed by their revamped menu, and I was even more surprised by the quality of their food. The tuna melt I ordered as a part of the trio menu was tastefully and tastily grilled to perfection, and the French onion soup was better than I remembered. The soup was a bit salty at first, but it complemented well with the half sandwich. Ambiance was as I remembered, with commodious interior and cute bucolic decoration. I ordered a Cappuccino, and the Crab Cake Benedict, which comes with roasted house potatoes. The Cappuccino was super hot and had the right amount of foam. The plate arrived in a reasonable amount of time, and was delivered by friendly staff. The presentation was very good. The potatoes were crispy and seasoned perfectly. Stopped by for breakfast today. The one star review is for the food. We ordered a bacon omelette and a chorizo omelette and potatoes with onions and green bell peppers. The food was flavorless, chorizo was dry and overcooked. The bacon had an odd taste. The potatoes with the onions and bell peppers were stale and oily as if they were cooked earlier this morning and reheated. Seems like only thing prepared to order were the eggs. The ambiance was the usual afternoon vibe at Mimi's Cafe, with plenty of seating and staff. This location offers outdoor seating, but with this hot weather, I suggest sitting inside to enjoy the air conditioner. They have a bar area where they offer a variety of beers, liquor, and mixed drinks. My server, Johanna, provided me with a menu, and I was reminded of the wide range of food they serve. When I asked her for a recommendation on a sandwich, she suggested the Turkey Pesto Ciabatta, which I ordered. My sandwich cost $18.73, which some might find a bit pricey. My order took 10 minutes, and then I was out the door. My Turkey Pesto Ciabatta was a decent size with plenty of fries. The bread was warm and crispy, and the turkey and other condiments were flavorful. The avocado and balsamic dressing was a nice added touch to the sandwich. The fries were well-salted and crispy, which went well with my sandwich. In conclusion, the sandwich was delicious and fulfilling. Mimi's Cafe is an upgraded coffee shop. It's definitely a step above a coffee shop. The baked goods are very nice. I particularly like the carrot raisin bread; they now do those in madelines. The French Onion soup is pretty good. It's not amazing. But it works. The sandwiches are fine, as are the salads. It's a casual eating place , like a diner/coffee shop. It's a little nicer. The service is very much like a coffee shop. The severs are pleasant and they do a good job. I prefer Mimi's to a generic coffee shop. In the past, they gave you a bread basket; now you have to pay for bread, making it more like a diner/coffee shop and less like a restaurant. That's fine. Just realize where you're going. read more

I asked the server if it was possible to have coleslaw without onions and she said no. Server did bring sourdough bread and real butter... good. My mother had pot roast and she was pleased. Men's washroom was clean and had paper towels available... good. I thought that the service was lackluster at best. I had "wooder" to drink and I actually had to signal another server for a refill. Be careful dining here, they will charge you double what your bill actually was. My husband and I ate here on Sunday December 28th and we got brunch, which admittedly was very yummy, but our bill totaled to about $67. We paid our bill and left a tip and went on our way. Come to find out a few days later that we were charged $143 on our card. So wanted to give them a try, incase this location is close in the future. Keep in mind, anything you order from the menu starts at $16. Ordered a Roast beef sandwich along with soup and main dinner. I have never written a bad review for Mimi before as I have eaten there many times but today was by far the worst of it and I felt like I was being on Candid Camera or Punked. We went there for my Mother's Day and had reservations for 8 they placed us in a six seater table then everyone who came after us were being served drinks and appetizers while we sat there hungry for 45 minutes until I said something to one of the workers if they can help us at least get some drinks and appetizers. It took one hour to get only two plates and both were cold salmon and Luke warm cheese shells. I brought it to the waitress attention and she too it off the bill and took the food back as I sat there still hungry. Finally I spoke to the manager and he acknowledged there was no service at our table and COMP our meal. We all did not get our full meals. We left the restaurant with no proper meal or even enjoyed the time there and I was so emotionally sad about my Mother's Day being ruin that I literally had tears in my eyes. We tried this place for the first time and we enjoyed it, we were seated right away , my first impression was it was a cute restaurant.. had a good feel to it . Menu selections were vast and everything looked appetizing.. I decided to go with half of a tuna, melt and cup of tomato soup.. in which both were very delicious, but I did not get full.. Very disappointed with my visit today. We arrived at the restaurant at 5:45 pm. There was a man perhaps the busser standing at the door sweeping. The man did not say one word but had a look on his face like don't walk in my trash. We walked to the bar sat down and waited 14 minutes before someone came. A serverer who was sitting down got up and walked by us with a smile. I thought he was on his break but then he went to the back and came back as though he was on the clock. A female server walked by us and didn't acknowledge us at all. My sister and I sat looking at one another confused as we waited to be greeted and given menus. Finally the female server returned and asked if we needed menus...nothing else. At that point I was annoyed and apparently so was my sister because she asked if I really wanted to stay. I chose to leave. The restaurant was not full and even so, I would have been satified with a plain, 'hello, I'll be right with you.' I enjoy the food and drinks at Mimi's however this is not the 1st time this has happened. It's usually in the evening. Today I ate here, haven't been in a few months but was craving their chicken n waffles. Can I just say I was truly disappointed today. Just look at the picture of the chicken and waffles I ordered.
