Min's is gradually expanding, and lucky for us, now has two locations in Corona, this being the newer. I cannot find any significant difference food wise or quality wise between the two, both are equally good. I think this has slightly less square footage, so let's just call this Mini Min's. We are long time customers of this business and definitely are fairly predictable when it comes to our orders. My food pictures and review for the McKinley location pretty much attest to our devotion and preferences. But tonight, I decided to try something new, an insipidly named dish called Homestyle Pork. This one had a picture of a little red chile next to its name on the menu, so I proactively and wisely made a request for mild, please. Out came a generously sized platter of thinly sliced, lean pork and mild green pepper, packed with good aromas and rich flavor. I was tickled to find black bean as part of the composition. Maybe a bit too oily, but no doubt something they can control on request. Better yet, I found myself creating my own "new and improved" dish by combining this with our Mapo Tofu entree, which they do a great job on, too, btw. The two together resulted in moans of delight. My only disappointment was the wonton soup. Nice broth, plump dumplings, and plenty of them, but the wonton filling is not my favorite. I am very pleased overall with their consistency of taste and quality, and never disappointed in the speed of the kitchen to get our order out to our table. Went to this place because the place that I wanted to go to was closed. When you walk in its not a pretty sight, they still have the covid station up and chairs up- like they don't want anyone dining in yet. The wife and I go to Corona about once a week to visit family there. We generally arrive at lunchtime and hungry. So, we generally stop along the way and grab a meal to bring with us. I discovered Min's on one such foray and Min's has become a staple selection. I have tried more than 30 of their offerings, running the full gamut of dumplings, appetizers and main courses; I've not been disappointed with any selection. This humble, restaurant was medium sized but can fill up quickly with enough 2-4 seaters, and also has a front counter for To-go orders.. The service was very quick to take and deliver orders. We were all very pleased with our lunch and the various dim sum we got. Of course, I was obsessed that they had Xiaolongboa and went overboard on 2 orders. 1 order is definitely enough as the size and quantity were substantial! I was also a big fan of their sautéed tofu skin and pork dish; as it was well balanced with a variety of peppers and tenderloin meat. We also jumped onto some sautéed veggies, pan fried pork dumplings, as well as thin & crispy scallion pancakes (probably the thinnest and crispiest I ever had). Okay I have loved Mins since the original off McKinley. I've been a regular patron of this new one on Ontario and the food is very good. I helped support them during covid and ordered to go on a regular basis and even gave generous tips for take out as urged by the signs they had posted. The last two times I have gone, I have wanted to walk out. Why? There is a young man working there - he has ZERO manners or personality or grace. Look. Mins is open until 9:30. My wife and I walked in just now at 8:30 and - like he did the time prior - the kid looked at us, turned his head to look at the clock on the wall, and then looked at it again when we said table for two please. Just pointed at a table, no welcome, no have a seat. Nothing but a disgusted look on his face. One word when he takes your order. "Ready?" My wife thinks he's special needs but I think the only thing he "needs" is a lesson in manners and hospitality. The spicy wonton were middle of the road. Add some soy sauce and some chili crisps, and it makes it taste pretty darn good. The eggplant with pork was good, and I think it was my favorite. I wish it had more pork, and the ends of the eggplant were cooked longer for more softness. I would order this dish again. The mix veggies were simple with a tasty sauce. The place was inviting. This is more of a 3.5. If you are looking for traditional dim sum, this is not it. There are no carts of food being pushed around, and the selection is small compared to what I have had at real dim sum places. That being said, this place was good for American Chinese food and appetizers. My parents live near here and it is a Chinese food desert. They love getting Chinese and have been super bummed out by the restaurants in their area since they moved. I came here for lunch with my stepmom and niece a week or so ago, I expected more, but it was good. For "dim sum" we ordered Pan Fried Dumplings, Juicy Pork Dumplings, and Onion Pancakes. I was honestly disappointed in the selection of "dim sum" as I love so many of the seafood dishes I get at other dim sum places, and they didn't have them. We also ordered Orange Beef and their Fried Rice with beef, chicken, and shrimp. Service was good, the food came out quickly. They checked on us a few times to see how we liked everything. My overall impression of the food was that is was good. not mind blowing by any means. But considering it's Corona, how much can you ask for? The Orange Beef was by far my favorite dish, I loved the sauce and the texture of the beef. The fried rice was good, the shrimp were tiny and the other proteins were of good quality. It didn't have a ton of flavor though. As for the "dim sum" went, I liked the juicy pork dumplings. They were VERY juicy and I enjoyed the flavor, especially paired with the soy sauce and vinegar that accompanied them. The pan fried dumplings were very dry, and had a strong peanut flavor, and the onion pancake was really thin, crisp, and greasy. Not bad, but not great. Obviously, it's a dumpling house. However, my husband and I didn't order dumplings or dimsum for takeout. we love to eat those fresh out of the kitchen. They don't have inside sitting or outdoor sitting area options. We ordered entrees instead that we eat when we ordered from Asian restaurants. I always order Eggplant and this one came so greasy that it was oozing out of the container. When I opened it, I could only stare. I could not eat any. My husband loves his Orange Chicken. It was just Ok. Fried rice seemed like it was precooked , hours prior. Not too sweet or anything. The Shanghai style fried noodles was not pan fried. It was steamed with some kind of sauce. and the noodles used?!..That's another thing. If you like this kind of food, go for it. I wouldn't try it again. I am a sucker for XLB that my family would not mind the long line at Din Tai Fung pre-COVID just to have XLB. So i wanted to give this place a try and it was SO DELISH!! It was very flap wil with the right amount of the pork broth inside. I can say that it is just as good as DTF but cheaper. Then I also tried their beef roll and it was amazing. You got this well seasoned thinly sliced beef with cilantro and wrapped in a crispy thin like scallion pancake. The flavor just burst in your mouth. I opened the YELP app and selected restaurants and this little gem popped up! I ordered the Juicy Pork Dumplings, String Beans & Walnut Shrimp. The pork dumplings were so juicy and flavorful! I was a little skeptical because I'd rather eat these Dumplings as they come out but they were still delicious as a to-go order. The Walnut shrimp was crispy and the string beans were full of flavor. I decided to try this place out on their opening night. I was greeted upon entering the restaurant and told that I could sit where I wanted. The space is attractive and well appointed. The tables look like different strips of wood and I found them to be attractive. I ordered the beef and broccoli and some pork dumplings. I also ordered a small white rice that they charge $1 for. I think white rice should be included, but that's a personal preference. The beef and broccoli came pretty quickly. I thought the portion size was small for the price. The beef was in odd little thin pieces that were not tender at all. In fact, I expected the beef to be tender since it's sliced so thinly, but alas...not so much. Also, they must add something with a fishy taste to the dish because there was a slight fishy aftertaste. The broccoli was cooked to a tender crisp that was nice. It was obviously freshly cooked, so they get points for that. I did not care for the dumplings and gave the extra ones I had away to some acquaintances. We had their soup dumplings, spicy wontons, pork buns, and spicy eggplant with garlic (ordered mild for my friend who doesn't eat too spicy). Soup dumpling flavor was great. I enjoyed the thickness of the dumpling skins, even though i usually see comments in general about how soup dumpling skins should be thin, i think. Wontons were super chive/oniony which was good to pair with the black vinegar. I liked how the oil was made of Sichuan peppercorn and gave a slight numbing taste. Tried this place for the first time! I ordered shrimp fried rice & Walnut shrimp to try it out first! And finally finally I found a place with good fried rice. It has good flavor a little smokiness from the wok! Most places now of days serve plain rice and just add carrots and peas no flavor at all! No wok just right out the rice cooker. But this place understands the assignment! Lol The walnut shrimp was good as well! Shrimp taste good don't have that farm raised taste to them. Right amount of sweetness & crunch.
