I came here last night and was able to try the recommended Yelp highlights. Garlic noodles, fried calamari and green beans, bun rieu, but the seafood paella claypot was soo delicious. Coconut rice was a nice touch. I will definitely be back for more. Not only was the food fresh, but our waitress was super on it. She made sure to keep refilling our tea and waters. She even made sure to ask if I wanted hot sauce, and was polite but not rude when we were in mid conversation to ask multiple times if we needed anything. This place isn't your typical Vietnamese restaurant. My waiter DEFINITELY WASN'T vietnamese (he was from some foreign country, but no where near SE Asia). The experience was a good one though. I was the only one eating in the entire restaurant, the entire time. That was good on one hand because I didn't have to worry about that uncomfortable feeling you get when you eat alone (dear god i forgot my magazine!); but on the other hand, it was dead quiet and i felt like all the waiters kept asking me if i needed anything. My food came out promptly and prettily if i may add. The rolls were good, nothing special. The vegetable pho soup was not what I was expecting. I was hoping for the real vietnamese pho with the side plate of goodies (basil, jalapeno, bean sprouts, lime, etc.), but it was a no go. All in all, not bad, great service, clean, good water. i would love to be generous to a new and up coming restaurant, but I have to be true to Yelp. I have to say the food was over price and very disappointing. The coconut prawn was nothing special, the seafood clay pot was too salty and the garlic noodles was not very tasty. Lets just say I would not come back or recommend it. My wife is a big fan of Southeast Asian food and she really likes this place. She'd give it at least four stars. I'm not nearly as knowledgable or interested in the fare, but I've joined her here a few times and generally like the food, especially the noodles. The mall atmosphere detracts, but the service is friendly and quick. A good place to drop in when shopping. read more

Mint Leaf is wonderful for lunch! Excellent prices on Vietnamese sandwiches! Friendly staff, and good quality food. If you order ahead of time and pick up, you can have a fast, cheap, filling and DELICIOUS lunch. I get the tofu sandwich without onions or jalapenos. It comes on a French roll with mayo, cilantro, carrots, cucumber, fried tofu, and some magical vegetarian sauce. You can also ask for the curry sauce that comes with their sweet potato fries (which are also yummy). Today my sandwich was $4.39. Who can beat that?! read more

Im glad to see theres another place to eat pho in alameda . the layout and surroundings are nice and the service is quick and friendly. I was a little sketchy about the food at this place but today i decided to try something new. This place reminds me of the vietnamese eatery inside the TI casino in vegas. It's not quite the deal or taste you can get in oakland or sf , but it'll do if you can't make it out to those cities. Ate lunch here today. Nice that they have outdoor seating, nothing fancy but its nice to sit outside when the weather is nice. The staff are really nice and quick. I had the beef ball pho and a thai iced tea. The thai iced tea was great, probably some of the best I've had in the bay area. the pho was good too, the steak was nice and not stringy with fat, and the broth was tasty. I'd def eat here again... oh and the bathroom was really clean, always a good sign. :) read more

Mint Leaf is the best Vietnamese food I have ever had. I have tried about 10 different items and loved all of them. The only down side that I have found is that if you order to go the plastic containers they use melt by the time you get home. read more

This place is pretty trendy for a small town restaurant. I really like their Pine-apple Fried Rice. It's yummy. But, if you like authentic Pho' this is not the place. I would go again!! read more

Not your typical strip mall joint. I dream of yummy pho from Mint Leaf with grilled chicken! My sister-inlaw and her Alameda friends turned us onto this place and taught me how to special order the pho with "grilled" chicken to get the tasty grilled lemongrass chicken pho that is a bowl full of pho-heaven. I found the standard chicken pho to be tasteless and the chicken to be dry. They also serve a delicious vietnamese sandwich as a to-go lunch special. I'm not sure about the other items on the menu because I'm stuck on the pho and sandwich. The decor is modern, the dining room is clean, and the service is friendly. read more

Small, crowded, in a strip mall, imperial rolls are not imperial rolls they are egg rolls, imperial rolls belong in rice paper not wonton wraps and to me they taste frozen and I doubt are house made, overpriced and under portioned there are much better Vietnamese choices on the other side of the tunnel in China town. I went back to try the Vietnamese sandwich which was very scant on filling and very very stale on the bread roll. Will not be trying it a third time. read more

Good noodles! And they had our favorite bun ruei I am always iffy about eating in a strip mall setting. But it was worth it. The rolls were very good, instead of the traditional rice paper shell they rolled the egg rolls in vermicelli which made their rolls really light and crispy! Stopped here for a late lunch. I had the Clay Pot Seafood and my wife had a noodle dish. Food was excellent. The seafood was fresh, plentiful and very tasty. Great value for the price. Getting lost in the East Bay has its advantages. The best of which was finding this restaurant. The dinner for two, which I usually avoid, was amazing. Also had the garlic noodles with chicken which were good and a spicy green bean shiitake mushroom dish with very delicious coconut rice. Another reviewer compared this to PF Chang for Vietnamese food and I have to agree. The restaurant itself looks nice for a mall restaurant. However, my spidey-senses always tingle whenever there is a snooty, non-asian serving asian food with a snootier-than-thou attitude. My spidey senses were correct. The portions were okay, but they are skimpy on the protein... Remember that loud, little old lady in those 80s Wendy's commercial that shouted, "Where's the beef?" Well, that how I felt when I ordered my chicken salad -WHERE'S THE MEAT??? My parents said they liked their food, but they were being polite because they knew I chose the place and was planning to treat. Nevertheless, actions speak louder than words. When I offered to order some take out from Mint Leaf for my brother, they suggested Lucky's fried chicken or L&L instead. Strike two against this place is that their pacing was terrible. This is not usually something I complain about. But, my SIL's entree didn't come until all the rest of us were served AND all the (non-asian) people at the next table (who sat down after we were already on appetizers) were served. She had to sit there acting like she wasn't hungry and irritated. Well, I was irritated for her because to be polite I tried to stop eating my salad until her entree came and it took a bloody long time!! Summary: Service- lame, with an unwarranted attitude. Food: The food is not bad-ingredients seem fresh, but it is not delicious - not for the prices and not for the quantity. Like PF Chang, all the ingredients are right, but something is lost in the execution. Mint Leaf is a great addition to the island. A bit pricey, but the food was very good. The restaurant is very cute and cozy, and overall very clean for a Vietnamese restaurant. I've tried their satays, salads, pho, curry, grilled chicken, imperial rolls and garlic noodles. Everything tasted good and was fine EXCEPT for the garlic noodles. Absolutely YUCK. It looks like spagetti, tossed in some oil with garlic flakes on top and it came out cold. It had no taste and was seriously disappointed with that. We stopped here for our first time the other day and had lunch sitting outside....The service was A+ !!! They are extremely nice folks , they even gave my daughter a free drink cause she was beautiful to them. We had Chicken Satay for starters...It was good had great flavor I prefer all white meat , but it was good. Wife had chicken/veggie pho and I had the chicken and sweet potato curry with the bread and noodles and coconut rice. Everything was amazing ! We will be back for sure !!! read more

I wish the rating scale allowed for negative stars... Ate here last weekend for lunch, thinking it would be pretty good based on the cooking and service at the Berkeley location. The imperial rolls were decent, but my wife noticed that the noodles they were served with were cold. Bad sign #1. Each of our entrees had grilled chicken that was lukewarm -- tasted like it had been prepared the day before, then reheated poorly. Likewise for the rice on my wife's plate. Bad sign #2. Anyway, I was hungry and decided to suck it up and eat...but then found a hair in my vermicelli bowl. Bad sign #3. Three strikes and you're out. The place was empty when we came in, so it's not like the kitchen was overworked with orders. We called the server over, told him about the old chicken, stale rice, and the hair. His response was, "I'm sorry, that doesn't usually happen." Really? You don't *usually* put hair in the food? Good to know. There was no offer to correct matters, like bring new, hot entrees to us. At that point, we just wanted to get out of there, so we asked for the check. Charged for both dishes, not surprisingly, bad sign #4. They don't care about the food or the customers. read more

A definite plus. I do have to agree with others that the portions are a bit small. I had the mango salad, sour soup, and lemongrass chicken. I really didn't like the mango salad at ALL. Too much jicama and i couldn't taste any mango flavor at all. The sauce for the salad was too too sweet. The sour soup was fine. My husband thought it was too sweet.
