Penne Alla Vodka

Cute Spot, But Service and Food Fell Short Walked in and my first impression was that the place is small but cozy, very pretty, and has a nice atmosphere. Our waitress was friendly, but she didn't really check on us after taking our order. We had two beers and would've ordered more if she had come back. On a positive note, the bread she brought out was delicious. We started with the calamari, which unfortunately were bland, overcooked, and chewy. The sauce served with them was just spicy without much flavor. For mains, the vodka pasta tasted more like mac & cheese--no trace of vodka sauce flavor, though the pasta itself was cooked perfectly. The eggplant pasta was okay, but not great. The eggplant was supposed to be crispy, but since it was smothered in sauce top and bottom, it turned soggy, and the pasta was overcooked. Overall, I'd consider giving it another shot because the space is so charming--maybe it was just an off day.

Loved this small chill restaurant for a nice Italian dinner. I got the Mario's and the noodles were cooked to perfect and the sauce was so rich and went great with the spinach and sun dried tomatoes. The calamari was also so good. The coating was light but also crispy and came with a nice spicy marinara.

Cappuccino

Outstanding pasta, top-notch service, and a great ambience. Every dish was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked, and the staff was attentive without being overbearing. A spot I'd happily return to.

This place has been on my list for quite sometime and I was finally out around dinner time to come by and give it a try. My kids wanted pizza and I wanted pasta; so we came here because friends had raved about the pizza and pasta. To start this place is named Mío Nonna woodfired pizza and grill on the outside sign. As we sit and order drinks; I ask about the pizza menu because I didn't see it. The waitress kindly informed us that the oven has been broken for over a year and they no longer serve pizza! That was kinda the reason we chose this place. She agreed with us that they need better signage stating there's no longer pizza. Get the oven fixed, if not take wood fired pizza and grill off the front signage and/or make a sign to put on the front door. While we were there two families came in with kids thinking the same as us with pizza on the menu and actually left when the waitress informed them there was no pizza. We decided to stay because I did want pasta. Place is quaint and small; service was good with our waitress; however the other waitstaff just hung around upfront on their phones and were loudly talking about their weekends. There was only one other table while we were there, so I get it was slow; but don't do that upfront in front of tables; go in the kitchen and play on your phones and hang out, it's not professional. They have a decent sized menu overall. We ordered the meatballs and carpaccio to start followed by the ragú di angello (pappardelle pasta with lamb ragú) and Aragasta (lobster ravioli); and the kids got the spaghetti and meatballs. Presentation and portion size was great. Appetizers were ten times better than the entrees. The carpaccio was really good and fresh; the meatballs were hearty and full of flavor. The kids spaghetti was ok; the meatball was the best part, but the sauce for the noodles had no flavor. Very bland. My pappardelle looked amazing but was a 6/10. No flavor no salt; tasted like watered down meat sauce. My mom's lobster ravioli was a 8/10; the sauce was real nice. I really was bummed about this dinner because I had such high hopes with my friend's review.

We made a reservation for six, initially for 6:15pm - about 90 minutes before the reservation, we knew we would be delayed - despite the Friday evening time, the staff accommodated a change and were incredibly friendly about the change. We were seated immediately upon our arrival, and all of us were struck by the incredible ambiance. Flowers across the restaurant, a simultaneously cozy and formal setting. Definitely a great place for a date! We placed our orders, and eagerly awaited our dishes. The absolute winners: the Mario's pasta - an incredibly creamy and rich Marsala sauce underpinning a thick papardelle pasta. As vegetarians, we replaced the meat with calabrese peppers - to wonderful effect. The polenta appetizer with the Gorgonzola sauce was rich and tasty - the mushrooms were perfectly cooked and perfectly complemented the polenta and the sauce. These two dishes were so good, and the staff so friendly, they raise the status of the overall dining experience. Unfortunately, the rest of the items did not live up to the great taste profile of these. The primavera's vegetables tasted boiled, with a pasta sauce with very little flavor. The Alla Vodka had a tasty sauce, but was otherwise unimpressive. The crispy eggplant was definitely crispy, but with little flavor, and unfortunately not enough sauce. The tiramisu was unfortunately the most disappointing. There was a crucial essential element of the tiramisu missing, a little too mousse based, and not enough coffee flavor. The restaurant was definitely busy, so we understood the occasional delays and forgotten requests, but they were friendly and accommodating. For vegetarians, this might not be the best spot to visit, but may be worth the visit just for the setting. And buyer beware - if you're reviewing the menu in advance - they no longer serve pizza! Definitely an unpleasant surprise for this pizza enthusiast.

I would've given this place five stars if it wasn't for our group not getting seated right away as we made reservations. Reservations weren't honored, and we had to wait 30 minutes to be seated. That's not great service at all. Apologies were made, but there should've been more done. Anyways, once we were seated, since we looked at the menu for 30 minutes, we knew instantly what to order. We had kids in the party, so they gave them an activity to do and water in a kids cup. Food wise, we ordered the spaghetti for the kids from their menu. We got tuna tartare, salad, and calamari from the appetizer section. From the main entrees, a whole bunch was ordered such as the zuppa di pesca, puttanesca, and Mario's. I liked the pasta with mixed seafood the best. Hands down! All in all, they need to do better with taking reservations and the seating after people arrive and making sure that it is done in a timely manner.

Gnocchi

Great ambience and service, great menu, great food. The flatbread thing was so good and very satiating. We got the alla crema, vodka rigatoni, eggplant parmesan, and pesto gnocchi. All of it was great. The portions are gigantic which makes the prices worth it.

Restaurant comes up as BYOB, is that true?

Not a BYOB restaurant but they have an amazing wine selection :)

Is this a good place to bring kids or more a date night?

The night we were there, there were a couple of families. I'd say fine but also good for a date night. Definitely a mixed group.

Do you have gluten-free options?

We have a gluten free pasta that can be substituted in most of our dishes.

How big is the pasta portion? If I have a party have 7 people, how many pasta should I order? Thank you!!

It's a restaurant sized dish. If folks are used to sharing, the plates can be split. If you don't know the appetite of who will join, then err with a full plate.

Do they have a kids menu?

They can do whatever you ask. My daughter is usually having penne or orecchiette with butter

Would a pizza and a salad be enough for 2 people to split? Thinking "to go".

It depends on the size of the pizza. You might want to get a medium size, that would be good/sufficient.

The house Manhatten was delicious with subtle adjustments to the traditional recipe. The Arancina Tradizionale is a fried ball of tasty saffron rice, stuffed with Bolognese and peas. Its a great appetizer with lots of subtle flavors. As an entree I had the Cacio E Pepe, the famous pasta prepared in a wheel of pecorino cheese and covered in fresh ground black pepper. The pasta was perfectly al dente, the cheese was creamy and mild, and the pepper nicely balanced the richness with a mild spice. I ordered shrimp on the side and it was well seasoned and nicely charred. My wife had the geilled salmon and loved it. We didn't really have room for dessert, but since everything else was so good, we couldn't resist trying the Tiramisu and Strawberry panna cotta. We couldn't have been happier with our choice. Be prepared for European style service and you will leave satisfied.

The menu I think had a good variety of entrees to choose from, and we both ended really liking the dishes we ordered. I ordered the pasta bolognese, and it was great. The pasta was cooked right and the sauce not super over powering. We will definitely be back to try other dishes. My only complaint was that seating is a little cramped, and everyone including the restaurant staff had to maneuver around chairs, etc. but other than that we really enjoyed our visit.

What…read moreimpressed me the most what they use like Diet Coke in glass bottle, really nice tableware, everything made from scratch, unique decoration that make the restaurant warm and cozy. I feel like service could've been a little better. My refill was quite slow but overall service was decent-good. Food... was great but missing a little element here and there (personal opinion). Man, I love the calamari here but it just needs a little seasoning. For the Wagyu, the steak wasn't rest long enough before it was cut (not a big deal) and I personal find potatoes to not complement the steaks well due to both item was quite greasy and oily. I think the steak would've pair better with perhaps mashed potatoes? They nailed the tiramisu (nothing to say about that). Again, food was great. those nick pick just my opinion what would take what I had tonight to a next level. Overall, really nice place for hangout, date. Great food and great people! I think we may have had an off-night on how they handled our reservation. If it weren't for that, I'd give them a 5! Food: I got the Pappardelle, my wife got the fettucine. Both were among the best we've tasted in Dallas, even compared to our current favorite Roman Cucina. We've been told to also order the brick oven half chicken and the duck, which we'll come back for. Drinks: well presented. The old fashioned had the spherical big cube, and was on the sweet side. My wife had the passion fruit juice, which had very strong flavor (preferred...you can always water it down if you need to). Ambience: beautiful & posh inside. Elegant casual outside. Once you're in, it's hard to remember that you're in a shopping center - everything from the entrance to the restrooms have a beautiful aesthetic. Service: We had a reservation indoors, but when we got there (on-time), we were told there was a 15-20 min wait unless we were willing to sit outside. It was a little bit before prime time, so we were a little surprised. We ended up taking the outdoor seating, and the weather got a little too chilly after sundown. On another day, this would have been perfectly fine (or maybe preferred)...but we figured the point of a reservation was to have the seat we wanted if we showed up on time. That said, Tania (our waitress) was great - humorous, attentive, open with her feedback on the dishes (it was our first time). All in all, a solid recommend for Italian food in N Dallas!
