It's hard to snag a reservation here, so I was very excited to finally try Mirra! Waitstaff was friendly, and the interior is cozy. I would say that the food leans more towards Indian flavors with Mexican preparations. We ordered the taco arabe, crispy taco, chaos aguachile, and charred cauliflower salad. Each dish had an interesting combination of textures (soft, crunchy) and flavors (creamy, acidic). My favorite bites were the crispy taco and the taco arabe, especially because the taco arabe ended up being our only warm bite of the night. We had a lovely time celebrating after our courthouse wedding at Mirra! The staff were amazing and helped us feel so special. The vibes when you walk in are great - fun music, beautiful decorations and love the open concept where you can see the chefs preparing the dishes. The food is a unique combination of Indian and Mexican. Our favorite appetizer was the tacos árabe - the lamb was so tender and it was perfectly spiced. The biryani was a beautiful presentation, although I think personally could have had more spices. My favorite dish of the night was the rasmalai tres leches cake - it was as delicious as it was beautiful. The drinks were also super creative and delicious. So, we had heard a lot about Mirra, and I'm someone who loves trying different and interesting food. Mirra clearly has a unique take on the fusion of Indian and Mexican cuisine. My friend and I initially got bar seating, but when we arrived, we asked if a table was available and they were able to accommodate us. We went on a weekend, so that's probably why it worked out. Let's talk about the drinks: I ordered the Old Fashioned, which had a mezcal base and was supposed to have notes of mango. I felt it lacked the mango flavor and was heavily dominated by mezcal. 6/10 My friend ordered the Bubbs, which was really good and refreshing. It was a mocktail with basil, guava, curry leaves, and mango. I loved this one, it was flavorful, not overly sweet, and felt very natural. 9/10 For appetizers, we got the Mirra platter. The dips were really good. One was coconut-based, another avocado-based, and I'm not entirely sure what the other two were made of. One had a bit of tanginess, so I'm guessing tomato and tamarind. The crisps went well with the dips too. They also had one item that was their take on nachos. While it was definitely crispy, I felt it was too hard-almost overly so. That could be improved. Overall, I would still recommend this starter. 7.5/10 Next, we had the roasted beets. This dish was roasted beet served on muhammara sauce, topped with spices and goat cheese. I loved this one. I'm not usually a huge fan of beets, but this was too good to skip. The goat cheese and muhammara completely changed the game. That said, I'm not sure how well this dish fits into their Indo-Mexican theme. 9/10 Moving on to the entrée: We ordered the Chile en Nogada. This was a poblano pepper filled with spinach and cheese purée, then breaded and fried. It was a decent dish, but I wasn't able to fully enjoy all the flavors and probably wouldn't order it again. Still, it was worth trying once. 7/10 For dessert, we had their mango tres leches, the cake was an olive oil one which went well the mango cream they had on top. You can ask for extra milk for the cake ( I personally felt it was a bit dry ). I enjoyed the flavor of cardamom as well. 8/10 Overall, it's a nice place with a good vibe. The service was good, and the setting felt comfortable. This place is a Bib Gourmand. I do think they have a long way to go to reach Michelin star status, if that's something they're aiming for. My friend was able to jump on a reservation for the new-ish chef's counter experience here and it was incredible! Twice a week, they do a prix fixe menu where the chef walks your through several dishes (along with an optional drink paring, which I recommend). So not only did we get try the food, the chef talked about his inspiration for each dish which was really cool to hear. I love both indian and mexican food and each dish did both cuisines justice. My favorite ingredient was probably the indian spiced mole; the flavors worked so well together. But everything was delicious. I got the vegetarian menu while my three friends got the regular one and I thought they did a great job of keeping the dish as similar as possible so I didn't feel like I was missing out on anything. I would highly recommend and can't wait to go back to try some of the things on the regular menu. read more

The fish was very fresh and the sauces/seasonings created a unique flavor profile. -crispy taco: 10/10 - my favorite bite of the night (aside from dessert). It was chilly for us since we sat near the window/entrance but otherwise felt comfortable and staff was super kind and attentive. While the menu may seem pricey, it is a coursed out, family style meal. About 5-6 apps and 2 entrees left us (party of 4) full and satisfied. The appetizers are so worth it and highlighted the Mexican-Indian fusion well. The standout dishes were the chaas aguachile and the roasted beets. The sauces were so flavorful that we had to save it for dipping. The variety of their menu was also impressive. As for the main courses, I have mixed feelings about the pulpo; I felt that the creamy coconut rice did not pair well. At the recommendation of our server- we ordered many dishes. I thought it was going to be too much, but it was the perfect amount. Mirra is a big deal, folks! Only open since the end of August, it was difficult to get a reservation at this Indian-Mexican fusion restaurant because word is spreading. In fact, our reservation was made weeks ago, and last night was the first opening that worked for us (and apparently, dozens of food bloggers who were snapping away at the gorgeous dishes with lighting kits, etc.). However, Mirra is worth the wait. Especially on a night when the temperature outside the doors was quite literally -5. The staff was super attentive, from the time we entered all the way until we were one of the final two tables left in the restaurant (which started with every table full) right before close. They constantly checked in on us, constantly filled our water, and made sure to bring fresh silverware and plates for every dish. This became increasingly appreciated throughout the meal in order to preserve the integrity of each dishes flavor. A touch that did not go unmissed. I also loved the open kitchen concept, where all the food is prepared behind the bar, allowing you to truly connect with those that are providing you sustenance. It's something that leaves a lasting impression. While I am practicing Dry January during the week, I did not order a cocktail, but they did look excellent. What we did order was the Mirra Salad, the Roasted Beets, Rasul's Roti Quesadillas, Laksa Baked Oysters, Taco Arabe, Roasted Bone Marrow, the Pollo Rostizado and finally for dessert the Rasmali Tres Leches cake. While that sounds like a lot, it is, but also it's enough for two people if you come hungry and you should. The salad and beets were ideal palate cleansers with an element to each that cut the flavor in a really rewarding way. For the salad, you have a crunch from crispy lentils and bit of heat from the pepita-lime dressing that the avocado cuts. The beets, which were one of my top 3 dishes of the night, sit on a bed of red poblano muhammara, which has a beautiful heat that is totally cut by the goat cheese and makes you want more. Next, the Quesadillas and Oysters both came out, and these had such a wide flavor profile, particularly the oysters with the addition of shrimp paste. If you are an oyster fan they are a must order. After that, we moved on to the Taco Arabe and the bone marrow, both of which were tender, juicy, full-bodied, the perfect amount of kick, and seasoned to perfection. Should you order anything these two dishes are my top recommendations. Lastly, the chicken was brought out, which was very good, but the true winner of the dish is the sauces it comes with. One is more Indian-inspired and the other more rooted in Mexican flavors. Both make every bite of the chicken unique. The tres leches cake has a really flavorful mango mousse if you're into mango! I found myself wishing it was a bit wetter with the milks, but ultimately it was solid dessert and a good size to share. A winner in the realm of fusion and a great new add to Bucktown. read more

We stopped by for dinner and it was a nice place. We had a reservation from a number of weeks ago and so we came in with high anticipation and high expectations. The service was quite good. Very helpful with the menu and all. In fact, they have a special vegetarian menu, which is nice. Makes sense for an Indian inspired place. The tldr of it is that this place tries to blend higher-end Mexican with Indian cuisines and I feel like both get a bit lost in the shuffle. For the food, we had asparagus, quesadillas, relleno chaat, biryani, and eggplant. Out of all of these, I'd say the quesadillas were decent. Other things were all just fine. I think each item had an unexpected dominant taste, as opposed to feeling like a fusion of subtle flavors. For example, eggplant can be bitter, and that bitterness dominated this dish. There was also a bitterness in the chaat. Asparagus tasted like asparagus. Lastly, we were tempted by the ras malai tres leches. Here too, the cardamom dominates the item and it also wasn't quite as moist as my fave tres leches cakes. It also didn't have that malai flavor I expect in Ras Malai. read more

Delicious with interesting twists on fairly common foods. For small plates, the roasted beets, scallops and aguachile were all well-plated and full of flavor and fantastic sauces. Even the mezze was impressive its presentation - an assorted house-made, gorgeous fan of crackers - and collection of salsas & guac. For mains, the octopus did not disappoint. Its texture was a bit unexpected - denser or a bit more substantial than usual? - but not unwelcome and it worked so well on top of the creamy coconut rice, which was fabulous itself. Mirra Mezze - glad we got it once, but might not get it again, the salsas and dips were tasty but not worth $16, especially given the other menu options Cauliflower - really good, refreshing and light but good flavor - balanced the tacos below Tacos - best thing we had all night. The cheese and the lamb were fantastic. Could've ordered multiple rounds of these Octopus Sopecitos - Feel like most octopus you get is grilled or more plain and really showcases the octoputs. I've been dabbling in "Indian fusion" all over the world my entire life-perennially disappointed. How is it that Chicago has somehow pulled it off? This is one of the only Indo-fusion spots that has figured out the formula. Photos are compliments of my foodie wife, so let them tell the story. Being Indian, and a resident of Arizona who grew up less than an hour from Mexico, I have certain expectations of either Indian or Mexican cuisine. Ate @mirrachicago last night. We were able to walk in and get a table as they were opening. The blend of Indian and Mexican flavors are right up our alley. Started with the mezze, the sikil pak and the salsa tarternado were our favorites. The charred cauliflower is a must. The balance of spices and textures with a cold salad is an experience different than other places. Also get the lamb taco. It is amazingly tender and in your face lamb. Service is great. All the servers were kind and want everyone to have a great experience. The fusion is more components of Indian food with Mexican components they're not used together. Richness cut with pickled onion. 2) crispy scallop tacos: the coriander chutney on top was delicious and spicy. Raul's roti quesadilla had a solid spicy kick to them, the lamb barbacoa biryani was very good (if you like biryani get this for sure), and the tres leches was very moist and delicious. We were a little concerned about the flavor of mango mousse on it, but it worked well; the cardamom and slight citrus flavors in the cake came through quite well. I came here with my partner to celebrate for a special occasion and this place was so freaking cute! The servers were super nice and the food were really good! My favorites were the auguachile, scallop tacos, and the lamb biryani! I literally picked up the spoon and drank the remaining of the sauce in the auguachile. The scallop tacos were bursting with sweet/fresh scallops and I was able to taste each level of sauces for every bite I took. I honestly can eat like 50 of those scallop tacos and won't get tired of it. The lamb biryani was the highlight of the dinner since my partner was having fun breaking into the roti seal. The meat literally melted in our mouths and the rice was so good! The sauces on the side gave each bite a really good kick. I will literally go back just for the lamb biryani and scallop tacos. That shows they are focused on the guest experience. My friend and I had reservations for the chef's 5-course tasting menu. Upon being seated, Miguel enthusiastically welcomed us and, at my request, provided mocktail suggestions. I loved the Pocketful of Sunshine! Sous chef Raul was helming the kitchen tonight, and everything he served was a mouthwatering party of the senses. I simply cannot choose a favorite, but I will make special mention of the duck & mirra mole. I don't know what sorcery it is, but that duck was absolutely phenomenal, not gamey at all, and the mole was some of the best I've had. Also, the dessert course, Sabu Dana, perfectly showcased the blending of Mexican and Indian ingredients, executed in the French technique. Just, no words. I could eat an entire plate of that plantain tuille! Suggestion, try that on its own. There's a sweet aromatic nuance that you'll miss if mixed with the sauce. The only item off the tasting menu I wasn't crazy about was the king crab mussalam. The crab itself was very tasty, I just didn't feel the fennel/achar was the best complement. The sauce was too liquidy to dip the pappad in. Overall, I felt like the dish was a bit complicated. The music and ambience was lively and upbeat. The service was perfection. The passion was obvious. I could drink it, it was perfect. next were the crispy scallop tacos - which were fun, good texture, but for me was missing something - i think a bit more citrus, a lot of the flavor was from the fenugreek roti shell. next was the charred cauliflower salad - great flavors and felt fresh and lighter, but still very substantial. last but not least - the lamb tacos - so delicious, great way to end the meal. would get these and the aguachile every time. read more

Cocktail menu is lovely. Sadly - we only tried one and feel we are lucky we got it. I assume they were down staff but since we were there for over an hour and a half for apps and main only, didn't receive an explanation of the delay, didn't receive our salad, were accommodated for an allergy by having part of the dish placed on the side (with no earlier explanation - just a 'don't eat this bc of your allergy') and ended up canceling the wine since it hadn't arrived by the time we were done eating - I waited until my food was getting cold - I can't recommend. We may have been comp'd a dessert but even that wasn't made clear. When we received, we said we haven't ordered it and just wanted our bill & we were told we could eat it anyway. We were thanked for our patience but not a repeat for us. Nice people, tho. read more

Fusion doesn't always work but we were thoroughly impressed with Mirra's Indian and Mexican flavors. The crispy tacos with scallops, curry, and smoked trout roe really are a perfect bite. The tres leches cake was also perfection. Cauliflower salad and quesadillas both super flavorful and the biryani was very hearty and fun to eat though the lamb was a touch dry. A few minor hiccups with service where they forgot to bring a cocktail and then offered to bring more salsa which never came, but overall service was quick and friendly. read more

It pains me to write a 3 star review for a restaurant that I have heard nothing but great things and have been dying to try. My friend and I made reservations for this past Sunday, and honestly, our excitement only increased because the menu items looked like they were to die for. We had decision paralysis. First off, the 'rita cocktail was delicious and well-balanced. Unfortunately, I couldn't try more than one cocktail because our server kept forgetting to bring the drink menu by. In hindsight, I guess i could have looked online. Here are all the dishes we tried: Mezze-the sauces were pretty single note. Nothing stood out. The guacamole also didn't have much depth. Crispy scallop tacos- many of the reviews raved about this item, however, flavor wise, it fell flat for us. It was underwhelming, but also there was something a bit off about the scallops themselves. Tuna moilee- the tuna was fresh and the moilee sauce had a really good flavor. We would order this again. One slight note is that the seeds were off putting Oysters- these were inedible and didn't taste right at all. It had a taste that would concern you about falling ill. We had to send them back. They were gracious enough to take them back and remove them from the bill Prawn chaat- the prawn were good, but not necessarily mind blowing. The yogurt didn't really add anything to this. Lamb tacos- now these were a must-order. The lamb was tender and full of flavor. I loved the crispy, melted cheese. Lamb biryani- while we would not normally get 2 lamb dishes, it was worth getting the biryani. This was also flavorful and the rice was perfectly cooked. I love the presentation of the breading baked over the pot. I am mixed about wanting to give Mirra a second chance. I am hoping my experience was a fluke. I look forward to seeing how the reviews progress over time. read more

Another new brunch spot to try after a successful Wicker farmers market run. Very friendly staff upon entering and we were quickly seated. So many great options to choose from. It's a Latin/Indian fusion brunch menu which made me pumped to try. Eddy was our server and was a great guy, very helpful and was able to answer all of our questions. I ended up trying the Huevos Rancheros Lababdar with Lamb Keema. By the time we ordered and started chatting our food was ready and boy were the smells amazing!Ranks as one of my top brunch dishes I've ever had. The smell of the masala was very inviting after every bite. I paired it with the Lamb Keema which brought some more richness to the dish. The housemade fenugreek roti was killer. I wish I had more!! It did have some spice with the salsa macha but it was one of those where you keep eating bite after bite it was that good! If you're ever in the area Mirra is a must!
