I like that this place is away from the busy street of old town. There's parking in the back which is great since it's hard to find street parking around Pasadena. They also have free WiFi here which is really nice and a free topping if you check in on yelp for any drink. I have yet to try one of their drinks but it looks like they have a large yummy selection. I came here for the Japanese soufflé pancakes on a Thursday night. There wasn't too bad of a line or long wait. There is a bit of a wait for the pancakes because they're making them fresh. The pancakes are everything I ever dreamed they would be. They're so light and airy! I've been DYING to try these. So worth it. Small shop on the corner of arroyo and Cordova. Street parking was easy for us to get at 11 am. We came for the soufflé pancakes and they did not disappoint :). They're stacked high and fluffy and it's fun to watch them make them. They also have a very big drink menu with all the concoctions you could imagine. The ordering system is electronic which then allows them to post on a screen the estimated completion time for your items/order. It's clear they do get very busy so it's nice to see when you can expect to eat! :). The inside has a handful of tables and there are games and books and stuff all around. May be our new favorite spot! It has some outdoor seating but we always opted for walking around the area instead. It's very peaceful! We've tried the a few milk teas and smoothies so far. The teas are very flavorful but not overly sweet. The smoothies are just amazing. Usually these fruity milky smoothies are very sugary and the taste is very artificial, but the mango and strawberry tornado drinks we've tried so far both have very muted sweetness to let the flavor of the fruit shine through. I was so excited to try this place after passing by the giant billboard all the time. Unfortunately, it was somewhat good but also somewhat disappointing. The taro taiyaki was delicious! May return for that. But the taro MT really missed the mark ... the boba was subpar, maybe overcooked? It was not chewy and almost hard. After seeing the pictures I was already drawn in with just that. On this foodie adventure i decided to have a fresh take from a fellow foodie. We ordered the Nutella soufflé pancakes along with the coconut, mango smoothie and Nutella boba. So I noticed that another table had the same order but it was in a box. Oh no! Not for me man! So I asked to have my order put on a plate for picture purposes. I was granted my wish. So it came out looking pretty good but it wasn't the total package as I expected. It did have the flavor somewhat and it did taste kinda eggy but it just didn't do it for me. I was craving some shaved ice and decided to try this place out for the first time. I love the variety of desserts they have from souffles to bingsoo to taiyaki. We decided to order the taro bingsoo and red bean and custard taiyaki. They have a kiosk to self order from and the process was really fast and easy. They also have outdoor seating available. The bingsoo orders come in a to go container so they aren't that aesthetic but when I saw my taiyaki I was really disappointed. The taiyaki were so tiny and deformed, they didn't even look like fish shapes. It was so funny to look at because I'd never seen a taiyaki so ugly. The taste of the red bean taiyaki was okay but there was so little filling and so much dough. I didn't like the taste of the custard taiyaki because there was a really strong artificial taste and also barely any filling. I thought the taro bingsoo wasn't that bad. They give you a lot of ice with red bean and lots of almond slices. The thing I didn't like was that the ice was really chunky. Taste-wise, it was okay but texture-wise, I didn't really like it. I was pretty disappointed with my orders especially the taiyaki, but I think I'll still be coming back to try their soufflé pancakes. I ordered the earl grey milk tea with less sugar since I'm trying to be good. It was a nice subtle flavor and I'm glad I ordered it less sweet since it seemed like the regular version would have been way too much. The lava flow boba soufflé pancake was so exciting to film and eat. The boba and they syrup they used flowed down the jiggly pancake making me so hungry. It was difficult to film it since all I wanted to do was eat it. I thought it was delicious. The pancakes in itself weren't too sweet and it seemed like all the sweetness came from the syrup and boba. The downside to this place is the time. Come when you're not in a hurry. I understand that it takes time to make these soufflé pancakes and it seemed like they were a little under staffed. Totally not their fault. I ordered the oreo brûlée matcha latte with boba. Although I got it at 50% sweetness, it was still really sweet. The drink itself was okay, but the boba really ruined it for me. The boba was sickeningly sweet. The syrup that they soak in must've been pure sugar. I couldn't finish my drink for this reason. We had to wait about 45 minutes for the soufflé. We had ordered the boba lava soufflé before we'd tasted the boba in our drinks, so we were worried that the soufflé would be too sweet as well. Went after 5:30pm on a Wednesday. It was very empty. Finding parking wasn't as easy as I thought since I knew I would be there for awhile. The parking lot attached to the building only allows 30 minute parking. I had to drive in a square. There is parking across the street that has 90 mins free and you can pay with card after. It's with the metro. I had the Oreo soufflé. It was a bit pricey. $16 after tax and it honestly was blah. It was very soft but had little to no flavor. They had other good looking food. Also, there is a garage around the corner that made finding parking a breeze. For the fluffy pancakes, I preferred the strawberry one and the matcha one was a close second. I also enjoyed the mille crepe cake, the matcha one was definitely my favorite. For the taiyaki, I preferred the custard filling one. I ordered the mixed fruit pancake which was the original pancake and it came with a variety of fruits. The pancakes were light and airy but still filling. I didn't think they were too sweet. I also tried the green tea crepe cake, I liked the flavor of green tea but I thought it was too creamy for me. However they game me the discount but then also MADE ME PAY A 15% TIP!!!! Like what the hell? That totally defeats the purpose of a discount. And it's not like a dine in restaurant, it's a cafe. WHAT KIND OF CAFE MAKES YOU PAY TIP? they shouldn't advertise a discount if they're just going to reverse it with an extra cost. If I thought the service was great then yeah sure of course I wouldn't mind tipping, but it shouldn't be forced. They also only take card. Also another con: I ordered a grapefruit yakult. You can tell they use actual grapefruit because it was SO BITTER. I mean I did order 50% sweet so that is my fault. But there was no yakult flavor at all either so....... it was basically just blended grapefruit juice. Not worth the price. As I ordered mine, the cashier checked with the kitchen to see how long I'd have to wait but fortunately, there was one already being made and I'd only have to wait 5-10 minutes. Biting into the jiggly, fluffy pancakes is like biting into what you would envision biting into a cloud of cotton would be like -- light, airy and soft. Compared to the American counterpart, the pancakes itself are mildly sweet and will not leave you feeling grossly heavy and stuffed. Even with the boba and cream topping, I found the combination left much to be desired. The boba wasn't sweet and the creme lacked in any inkling of flavor. As I was driving in Pasadena headed to Colorado street , I saw this place on the corner named Miss Cheese I was interested to see what they were all about because from first glance I thought it was an Asian Mini Cheesecake cafe, but I was wrong what I thought was cheesecake was actually more like a big fluffy pancake not too sweet but they have all kinds of sauces that you can top it with.I got two fish shaped waffle type pastry one with cheddar cheese and the other had mozzarella cheese I'm not sure what brand of cheese they used but there was no cheese pull and the middle seemed undercooked. They sprinkled powdered sugar on top if it was done to my liking the whole thing would've a rich savory taste but it missed the mark. The staff was nice but some of the staff English could be better they could not explain the products and ingredients. The business was inviting and they had plenty of little games to keep you entertained while spending money and enjoying their stuff. By the way the reason I did not order the fluffy pancake was because I was told it would take 15 to 20 minutes to cook on my next trip to Pasadena if I have more time I'm willing to give them another chance.
