We had family visiting from out of town, and this was the perfect place to bring them, especially with kids ages 3-6. Our server, Brian, was attentive, funny, and handled our large order with ease. He kept everything moving quickly and fixed the few small mistakes right away. This was my third visit, and I've officially become more addicted to the Matcha French Toast than their signature soufflé pancakes. Don't let the 20-minute wait for the soufflé pancakes scare you. Their coffee drinks, made with real matcha and not overloaded with sugar, are excellent and will keep you satisfied while you wait. The pancakes arrive before you know it. The Wagyu curry is always my go-to. It has just the right amount of spice, and if you end up with leftover curry rice after filling up on pancakes, it makes an amazing leftovers meal. Everything here has been consistently excellent. I think most of the negative reviews came from when they first opened, when there were lines wrapped around the block. We had a NIGHTMARE experience today which was frustrating because we were so excited to drive out to try this place. We put our name in for the 20 minute wait because it was busy. When we were finally seated, we were told the souffle pancakes could take a while and so we ordered the chicken karaage and wagyu curry because we had to leave in about an hour. 30 minutes after ordering I noticed tables who were seated after us were getting their food, I had to ask a different staff member to check on our order because our waiter disappeared on us and didn't check on us once. It became clear that he either forgot to send in our order or the kitchen lost our ticket because we saw the girl talking to the kitchen and looking worried. Now 40 minutes in, we needed to switch our food to take out. Instead of apologizing for the mistake, which would have made it a little better, I was told the kitchen was just very busy which was a flat out lie. How come no one started making my drink until after I said something? Later in the car when I took a bite of the chicken karaage, it was pink inside and undercooked. I guess in their rush to cover up that our order got lost they rushed cooking the chicken. The wagyu curry was pretty good though. I felt bad for the girl who was just trying to help us when we just had a bad waiter. She gave us a small discount for the wait. I understand mistakes happen but this could have been handled better even with just a simple apology. I've never had Japanese souffle pancakes before so when I saw this place nearby, I figured that I would try it out. We came in around 9:30am and were seated right away. Not even 30 minutes later the whole place was packed. I ordered the Benedict Pancakes ($22) and the seasonal Biscuit souffle pancakes ($18). I also tried the Tonkatsu Curry ($16). For a drink I got the pot of Peach Momo Tea ($6). My benedict pancakes came out first. The souffle pancakes and the tonkatsu curry came out at the same time 30 minutes later. The benedicts weren't bad, but I probably wouldn't get them again. The yolk was solid and not runny and the pancakes were just normal flat pancakes, and they were kind of dry. The tonkotsu and the Japanese pancakes were way better. Both were very flavorful and nice and hot. For the tea pots you also get refills, so we got a lot to drink with that. For a two-person table, it was definitely too small to hold everything that we ordered. Luckily by the time the curry and the pancakes came out I was already finished with my benedict pancakes and was able to give it to them to clear out to make room for the other dishes. Service was good, the wait for the food was long but they were still attentive enough to get us what we needed. Once you get your food they try to get you out as quickly as possible since the longer it went the longer the wait outside was for a table. Overall it was a nice breakfast/brunch experience. It is a bit pricey, but some dishes are better than others. I would come back either for the Japanese pancakes or the curry. The tea was great too. They are much taller and thicker than an American pancakes. They are wonderful. They also have a lunch menu and have great bowls. Their service is just the best. They are nice and will explain to you all you need to know about the menu. It is somewhat large so let them help you. I know they want you to be happy. The prices are fair and there is plenty of parking. The area is also very nice to walk, there are other places near and you will like it. It is great neighborhood. When I saw the Sakura Lychee Pancake, I immediately had to go try it. I was prepared for the wait as the souffle pancakes do take a while, which was totally fine! The pancake was light, floral and refreshing. I genuinely savored every bite. In terms of the service, we did wait a while as we were ready to collect a check. A server came back and asked if we were ready for our check and we replied yes. We waited an extra 10-15 minutes for the check even with our plates stacked. Eventually, I called another server and they handed us the check right away. The second server was apologetic about the wait which I appreciated. This shop is located in Atlantic Times Square Plaza in Monterey Park, basically right next to AMC Monterey Park. There's plenty of parking located in the underground structure for the plaza. I tried the Wagyu Beef Curry and Tiramisu Cuptake but both were disappointing. The "Wagyu" Beef Curry's beef was pretty dry, especially since they called it wagyu. The curry was standard fare but at least the dish looked nice from a plating perspective. The tiramisu cuptake did taste like tiramisu but it was also dry and the flavor was not memorable. My friend brought me here for my birthday brunch and what a treat! I had not heard of this place before as I don't live in the area but it was poppin' ! The wait was about 30 minutes so we added our name to the wait list and relaxed by the fountain while we waited. We received a text that our table was ready and we entered the restaurant, which was a Café style with tables for 2-4 people. We ordered to share. The crème brûlée pancakes were my ultimate disappointment, I was so excited to try them out and the sauce was just too eggy for my taste. This was a miss for me. The server did tell us that the pancakes do take a while to come out so we were surprised that they were the first item to come out! We ordered the french toast and this was my absolute favorite. The sauce was too eggy. Also, I wish they had torched some sugar to give it a nice candied layer like true crème brûlée. Mixed Berries French Toast 8/10. We originally ordered the banana but they had run out. So we ordered the next best thing. It was absolutely delicious. As much as we loved it, it felt like it was lacking something. It's pure carbs and fruit. It's missing a protein component. Is order again, but for the price I wish it had come with eggs or meat. Matcha Strawberry Iced Dalgona 10/10. The service was also pretty quick with the food. However if you don plan to order the pancake order that when u first come in since it took about 30 mins for it to be ready. They do warn you on the menu that it can be longer on weekends. Cheesy bulgogi 7/10: this dish was pretty good. The cheese was torched so it had that nice charred smell to it. Tried Gram Cafe for the first time a while back. Food: The strawberry fluffy pancakes are spectacular. I love the cream! It came out perfectly fluffy and came out very aesthetic. The chicken was pretty good, no complaints there! I guess only the portion for it was a little small. The takoyaki was alright. It was not my favorite. The waygu patty on top of rice was not my favorite. There was nothing special about it. The "waygu" tasted like a regular beef patty if I were to be honest. Overall, the food was pretty solid. We celebrated our friends birthday here and loved it! We called in ahead of time and they don't have reservations, but have a waitlist. They have a birthday surprise ice cream (with matcha and vanilla) which they brought out with the food. We ordered the mango soufflé, crème brûlée soufflé, chicken karaage, beef cheesy gyudon. All the food was delicious -- the pancakes are fluffy and light nicely paired with the sweet toppings. The chicken karaage was crispy and tender. The gyudon was what you expect with a slightly sweet and savory (similar to sukiyaki flavor) beef on top of a bed of rice. I would have preferred less rice or at least more meat to pair with the rice and onions. There were a couple tables open when we had arrived but they can get pretty busy. It's been quite a while, but when I came with my daughter and husband, I notice that their menu is freshly printed. Anyway, to the food! Gram was a super hyped cafe known for it's fluffy Japanese pancakes and delicious food. When they first opened, there were long lines/ wait times to get a table. As the hype died down, we decided to check it out. First off, we were confused as to how to put our names down because there was no list nor any server to help us as we walked in. We saw an open table for four and asked if we could take that one, but was denied because we were a party of two. So we waited patiently. The people that came after us got a table immediately when they had a party of three at a six person table. That was so annoying as we already waited half an hour when there were open tables. The tables are crammed in together so it's difficult to enjoy your meal with people waiting for a table right next to you unless you're lucky to get a table at the edges of the space. Parking is easy as there is underground parking at the Atlantic Square Plaza. On to the food. We ordered the curry tonkatsu and the wagyu burger. Both were tasty but nothing special or out of the ordinary. The pancake on the burger was light and fluffy but it kept breaking apart. We finished with the mango souffle pancake (not pictured). It was yummy, but again, nothing special. The pancakes are less eggy flavored and was soft. However, there are a lot of tea spots that serve the same quality fluffy pancakes. Also, their souffle pancakes can take up to 30 minutes which can be quite the wait. Overall, I was disappointed that the food and especially the service did not live up to the hype. I've been here a few times now and have really enjoyed each visit. I love their waitlist system because I've never actually had to stand outside waiting for a table, which makes the whole experience much more relaxed. They have a big drink menu, and everything I've tried so far has been really good and not overly sweet, which I really appreciate. For entrees, the curry dishes are delicious--the curry is savory, rich, and full of flavor. And of course, you can't come here without trying the soufflé pancakes. Our party was sat in the very back near the restrooms and it was unbearably hot, we were all sweating. They had a fan in the corner but it didn't help much. I was so sad when Gram Cafe & Pancakes closed their restaurant at Stonestown in San Francisco. (They have a ghost kitchen in the TL, but a sit-down place is ideal). So when I saw one in MPK, I knew I had to go. I got the mango pomelo soufflé pancake. The overall dish wasn't too sweet, even with how incredibly ripe the mango was. The texture of the pancake was fluffy and silky. And it wasn't eggy. We also ordered an unagi-don, which came first. The unagi was perfectly grilled, bringing out a nice smoky flavor that played well with the umami-ness of the unagi sauce. It came with roe, very small pieces of avocado, and rice. I'm glad it came first because the soufflé pancakes were basically dessert. The pancakes do take awhile, so give yourself some time when dining here. And it's a very popular place, so expect long wait times on the weekend. You can order soufflé pancakes for pick up, but they will deflate. The texture and taste are the same, so it's worth getting if you don't mind it losing its wiggle. Just know that you can't get the original to go as it's policy - it deflates much faster than the ones that come with a sauce. read more
