I am not a super huge sweets person, but I love most things matcha and crème brûlée. My best friend has favorites here and even orders the to-go options (which is limited to cold pancakes and a few things. You cannot order the hot pancakes, appetizers, and some other things). They're made as you order them, and I imagine most things can be hard to set up as take-out. The wait ranges from 1.5-2 hours if you're not there at odd hours (during work hours or weekdays). Food: Matcha crème brûlée soufflé pancake: it was pretty sweet but the authentic matcha flavor came through to help balance it out. The pancake itself was so fluffy! Had a wonderful brunch here with my family. Their souffle pancakes are delightful. We ordered the original soufflé pancakes and the mango pomelo sago soufflé pancakes. So soft and delicate. We also ordered their Big Gram Grammy: peppery roasted potatoes, bacon, eggs your way, and a large sausage, which was also very peppery; and, the unagi tamago bowl. The rice was a bit dry and aside from the bits of off cuts of diced avocado, I would say their food was very good in all. Their latte was really smooth and hit the spot. I was working in the area today and was looking for a place to have breakfast. I came across Gram Cafe & Pancakes and decided to give it a try. The menu has a lot of options, and honestly, everything looked really good. I ended up ordering the Golden Salmon Salad. It was fresh, well presented, and tasted good, but it wasn't anything that really stood out or made me want to order it again. The restaurant was clean, the staff was friendly, and the atmosphere was nice and relaxed. It's definitely a good spot for brunch if you're in the area. I'm giving it 4 stars because I had a good experience overall, but the food I ordered didn't quite impress me enough for a full 5. We had family visiting from out of town, and this was the perfect place to bring them, especially with kids ages 3-6. Our server, Brian, was attentive, funny, and handled our large order with ease. He kept everything moving quickly and fixed the few small mistakes right away. This was my third visit, and I've officially become more addicted to the Matcha French Toast than their signature soufflé pancakes. Don't let the 20-minute wait for the soufflé pancakes scare you. Their coffee drinks, made with real matcha and not overloaded with sugar, are excellent and will keep you satisfied while you wait. The pancakes arrive before you know it. The Wagyu curry is always my go-to. It has just the right amount of spice, and if you end up with leftover curry rice after filling up on pancakes, it makes an amazing leftovers meal. Everything here has been consistently excellent. I think most of the negative reviews came from when they first opened, when there were lines wrapped around the block. I've never had Japanese souffle pancakes before so when I saw this place nearby, I figured that I would try it out. We came in around 9:30am and were seated right away. Not even 30 minutes later the whole place was packed. I ordered the Benedict Pancakes ($22) and the seasonal Biscuit souffle pancakes ($18). I also tried the Tonkatsu Curry ($16). For a drink I got the pot of Peach Momo Tea ($6). My benedict pancakes came out first. The souffle pancakes and the tonkatsu curry came out at the same time 30 minutes later. The benedicts weren't bad, but I probably wouldn't get them again. The yolk was solid and not runny and the pancakes were just normal flat pancakes, and they were kind of dry. The tonkotsu and the Japanese pancakes were way better. Both were very flavorful and nice and hot. For the tea pots you also get refills, so we got a lot to drink with that. For a two-person table, it was definitely too small to hold everything that we ordered. Luckily by the time the curry and the pancakes came out I was already finished with my benedict pancakes and was able to give it to them to clear out to make room for the other dishes. Service was good, the wait for the food was long but they were still attentive enough to get us what we needed. Once you get your food they try to get you out as quickly as possible since the longer it went the longer the wait outside was for a table. Overall it was a nice breakfast/brunch experience. It is a bit pricey, but some dishes are better than others. I would come back either for the Japanese pancakes or the curry. The tea was great too. I can understand how some people say the wait is a bit long, but they appeared to be short-staffed and were always busy with a constant flow of patrons, so I definitely felt for the 2 servers manning the whole place. My mom enjoyed it, and I think it's already lightly dressed, but they still gave more dressing on the side? -Savory Japanese Monte Cristo French Toast, while I didn't try this, my mom says she liked this dish very much. Served with potatoes and salad. -Taro Sago Souffle Pancakes were delicious. Light, fluffy, bouncy and *not too sweet* -- really enjoyed this! They do serve it with a tiny scoop of ice cream, that I mistook for butter/cream, lol, but it melts quickly so if you're wanting this as a dessert/finisher, I'd probably say to wait for it at the end. However, since these souffle pancakes already have 30 min. prep time or longer, I don't know if waiting for it would cause an even longer stay at the restaurant. We had a NIGHTMARE experience today which was frustrating because we were so excited to drive out to try this place. We put our name in for the 20 minute wait because it was busy. When we were finally seated, we were told the souffle pancakes could take a while and so we ordered the chicken karaage and wagyu curry because we had to leave in about an hour. 30 minutes after ordering I noticed tables who were seated after us were getting their food, I had to ask a different staff member to check on our order because our waiter disappeared on us and didn't check on us once. It became clear that he either forgot to send in our order or the kitchen lost our ticket because we saw the girl talking to the kitchen and looking worried. Now 40 minutes in, we needed to switch our food to take out. Instead of apologizing for the mistake, which would have made it a little better, I was told the kitchen was just very busy which was a flat out lie. How come no one started making my drink until after I said something? Later in the car when I took a bite of the chicken karaage, it was pink inside and undercooked. I guess in their rush to cover up that our order got lost they rushed cooking the chicken. The wagyu curry was pretty good though. I felt bad for the girl who was just trying to help us when we just had a bad waiter. She gave us a small discount for the wait. I understand mistakes happen but this could have been handled better even with just a simple apology. This shop is located in Atlantic Times Square Plaza in Monterey Park, basically right next to AMC Monterey Park. There's plenty of parking located in the underground structure for the plaza. I tried the Wagyu Beef Curry and Tiramisu Cuptake but both were disappointing. The "Wagyu" Beef Curry's beef was pretty dry, especially since they called it wagyu. The curry was standard fare but at least the dish looked nice from a plating perspective. The tiramisu cuptake did taste like tiramisu but it was also dry and the flavor was not memorable. My friend brought me here for my birthday brunch and what a treat! I had not heard of this place before as I don't live in the area but it was poppin' ! The wait was about 30 minutes so we added our name to the wait list and relaxed by the fountain while we waited. When I saw the Sakura Lychee Pancake, I immediately had to go try it. I was prepared for the wait as the souffle pancakes do take a while, which was totally fine! The pancake was light, floral and refreshing. I genuinely savored every bite. In terms of the service, we did wait a while as we were ready to collect a check. A server came back and asked if we were ready for our check and we replied yes. We waited an extra 10-15 minutes for the check even with our plates stacked. All the food was delicious -- the pancakes are fluffy and light nicely paired with the sweet toppings. The chicken karaage was crispy and tender. The gyudon was what you expect with a slightly sweet and savory (similar to sukiyaki flavor) beef on top of a bed of rice. I would have preferred less rice or at least more meat to pair with the rice and onions. There were a couple tables open when we had arrived but they can get pretty busy. It's been quite a while, but when I came with my daughter and husband, I notice that their menu is freshly printed. Anyway, to the food! We ordered the Wagyu Curry (its so pretty!) and the gyudon rice, for our savory and Biscoff Soufflé paired with our two drinks-- Dirty Ube Latté and Sparkling Matcha Yuzu Lemonade. Gram was a super hyped cafe known for it's fluffy Japanese pancakes and delicious food. When they first opened, there were long lines/ wait times to get a table. As the hype died down, we decided to check it out. First off, we were confused as to how to put our names down because there was no list nor any server to help us as we walked in. We saw an open table for four and asked if we could take that one, but was denied because we were a party of two. So we waited patiently. The people that came after us got a table immediately when they had a party of three at a six person table. That was so annoying as we already waited half an hour when there were open tables. The tables are crammed in together so it's difficult to enjoy your meal with people waiting for a table right next to you unless you're lucky to get a table at the edges of the space. Parking is easy as there is underground parking at the Atlantic Square Plaza. On to the food. We ordered the curry tonkatsu and the wagyu burger. Both were tasty but nothing special or out of the ordinary. The pancake on the burger was light and fluffy but it kept breaking apart. We finished with the mango souffle pancake (not pictured). It was yummy, but again, nothing special. The pancakes are less eggy flavored and was soft. However, there are a lot of tea spots that serve the same quality fluffy pancakes. Also, their souffle pancakes can take up to 30 minutes which can be quite the wait. Overall, I was disappointed that the food and especially the service did not live up to the hype. We returned! This experience was different from the first, and that's not a good different, unfortunately. The restaurant was really warm. I'm guess no AC was on. It was a hot day and we looked forward to cooling off while having our meal. The egg on the Benedict was overcooked and served kind of cold (wasn't a hot meal.) The soufflé pancakes were delicious thank goodness. I tried the strawberry soufflé pancake for the first time and that was amazing. I liked it more that the original just for that lovely strawberry flavor. It wasn't too sweet. Just perfect. read more
