I also got a chance to meet the chefs who were very gracious! I've been past their cafe a few times. The lines are long and they do not have reservations. It's worth the reservations! I'm not sure what happened when we visited recently but the food was horrible. We normally visit the restaurant in Annapolis but didn't feel like the drive and the shrimp/grits are always delicious there. We tried the same thing at the Harbor and it was so distasteful that I became ill. The entire dish was dry, the shrimp tip cut my gums, and I had to struggle to even pull the tail off of the shrimp. My son-in-law had the chicken/waffles which he enjoyed as he moistened the chicken with syrup, otherwise the chicken was very bland and dry. I normally don't complain or send in reviews but I was so disappointed and will probably never visit the Harbor. The other downside is the parking, seriously!!!!! My mind was blown by how good the food was here. No doubt the best brunch place I have ever eaten at! The Cuban Huevos sandwich is to-die-for. The deviled eggs appetizer were also crazy good. It's definitely one of those places that everyone raves about and actually lives up to its popularity. Don't want to take away from the star rating on a great restaurant I have eaten at over 20 times and enjoyed, but my last visit was less than stellar. The wait - which is usually long, was twice as long as I was told(was told 25-30 minutes, waited upwards of an hour), and the usually stellar food seemed a bit lacking this time around. For how busy this cafe is my waitress came very quick. Extremely helpful in making menu options ... my drink also came exceptionally quick!! I am highly impressed in the first 15 minutes! This was m first time at Miss Shirley's and WOW the raving reviews were right. They don't take reservations so I was a little nervous going on a Saturday at 10:30, but we were seated within 10 minutes of arriving. I ordered the peach maple smash cocktail which was just perfect for the season we are in between summer and fall. For an entree I ordered the omega-3 avocado toast with a poached egg on top. This was the best avocado toast I have ever had! It was so flavorful, and I especially loved the lemon dressing they put on top, it just made the other toppings pop. I was nervous when they brought over just the one slice, but it was very filling and ended up being the right amount of food. I also can't rave enough about the service, our waiter was attentive, funny, and personable. We sat outside under an umbrella on a warm Saturday and had the perfect breeze. This place epitomizes Maryland cuisine and it's the place to go if you're in this part of Baltimore. If you're looking for a table at peak hours, then good luck, because this place is too dang popular! Hence, make a reservation if you can! They have tables outside around the corner though if you want to order take-out but still sit and eat somewhere. Great brunch place! I can definitely see why it's so popular. Personally, I felt like everything was a little too sweet for me, but I can't deny that everything tasted good. I got the Bay - O (Crab Cake) Po ' Boy with Hash Browns and my girlfriend got the Chicken 'n Cheddar Green Onion Waffles. Both were really delicious, but the chicken was slightly dry. When we came here around 11:30 or so on a Sunday, they told us the wait was 45 minutes but we ended up waiting for only 20 or so minutes. I would say this place is great and definitely worth it during Baltimore restaurant week. However, I could do without it on a regular day, as the wait to be seated is usually long and the food is on the pricier side. Granted, each dish is big enough to make another meal out of it. The chicken and waffles is probably my favorite. The chicken is on the breadier side, which some people don't like as much, but I don't mind it since it's nice and crispy. Stumbled upon Miss Shirley's while visiting Baltimore for a concert. We visited right at lunchtime on a Friday and was surprised that the wait was only a few minutes despite how many people were trying to get a table. The server was pleasant but rushed and the seating was definitely crowded. This wouldn't be a place that I'd want to bring a large group or friends who may be on the heavier side as I feel like they'd be uncomfortable. As for food, I got the French toast special-chocolate cheesecake crunch with a side of scrapple and my friend got the raspberry whites chocolate pancakes with a side of chicken sausage. It's always disappointing to me when you have to pay extra for meat and that you can't just order it as a meal. Both meats came out a bit undercooked for my liking-the scrapple being mushy was a turn-off. The French toast was a great idea, but I think the bread was just too think-half of it was cooked great, but the top half just tasted like bread. Maryland / Baltimore Vegan Week Menu Reviews: First up is breakfast! I was so excited to see a classic Baltimore breakfast spot offer a vegan week menu. Some of these items are on the main menu all the time, but a lot aren't and I was excited to try them out! Give me potatoes, give me avocado, and give me some vegan sausage and I'm a happy lady. Overall , good experience The wait was about 1hr - 1hr and 15min. But it's understandable cause it's Sunday. Food Hot Honey Fried Chicken Deviled Egg - so worth it. Please get this. Has a nice kick (little spicy but it's not that bad) Egg was fried as well? (I am not sure if it's normal) but totally worth it Coconut Cream Stuffed French Toast - ordered since on the menu it says 'as seen on Food network's diner' etc. It's good (more so okay) but for me, it was too sweet. And it's ginormous. I think it's worth a try if you are going as a large group so you can share it. Amy's Bayou Omelet - great. Great portion size, great taste (just slightly salty) but overall great omelet. I would get it again. Drink Shirley's Crush - if you are looking for an alcoholic drink, this is NOT for you. I did not taste anything in it so when I asked the server he said that they use fresh squeeze orange juice and 2oz of alcohol. So basically if you want to feel bougie to pay $12 for an orange juice, this is for you. Service I don't know how I feel about it. Our server didn't quiet explain to us about the menu and when we ordered the food, he asked if we want the hash brown and bacon with it where it made it sound like it comes along with the food. (I've should've read the menus better). We were charged extra $6 for 4 strips of bacon and $8 for hash browns. I'm totally fine paying for it but wish he could've explained it better to avoid confusion (and plus I would never pay that much for pieces of bacon and not-so-well cooked hash browns) Towards the end of the meal, the server just put his hands out without asking and taking the plates away when we were not really done. I felt we were being rushed out to have the table available for the next customer. After seeing the stellar reviews, we HAD to come to Miss Shirley's for breakfast during our tip to Baltimore. A short walk from our hotel, Miss Shirleys was lined up out the door with lots of people waiting to be seated already. Great sign! We got ourselves on the list and waited for maybe 15 minutes before we were seated. There was probably 20+ people waiting to be seated outside the restaurant but they're doing a great job of keeping things moving. We were seated in the covered patio - it was a little hot, not all of the fans were on, but it's hot in Baltimore no matter what you do. I couldn't resist the Everything But the Bagel Biscuits, they were a must have, so we ordered some to split. I ordered the waffles and chicken and my boyfriend ordered the coconut stuffed french toast. Those biscuits tho *drool*. Get them. Don't even think about not doing it, just do it. The softest, fluffiest biscuits I've ever had, stuffed with cream cheese and served with more herb cream cheese and some kind of fruit compote. To die for! I could have happily eaten two orders of this and called it a day. BUT the main event was still to come. My chicken and waffles were good. Not the best I've ever had, but tasty nonetheless. I found the chicken to be a touch dry and I didn't get any syrup to go with them, which definitely affected the whole dish. You can't serve chicken and waffles and NOT give me syrup with it. The coconut cream stuffed french toast was DECADENT! I don't think I could have made a dent in the order my boyfriend was given. The coconut cream was rich and silky but I think there was way too much in relation to the amount of french toast. I had almost ordered it myself but I was glad I hadn't. Service was prompt and attentive and the manager stopped by our table twice, which I appreciated. This is a definite must-go when you're in the Inner Harbor area. Never have I sat down at a restaurant and was greeted by a server whose first words were "good morning, are there any food allergies I need to be aware of?" All I can say is wow and thank you. So many restaurants and people in general dismiss food allergies as pickiness but food allergies can be life threatening. I very much appreciate this approach and it reduces the awkwardness of having to ask a million questions. The menu was clearly labeled gluten free, vegan etc. On our visit it was hard to choose because the menu was vast and everything sounded delightful. I ultimately settled for the gluten free blueberry pancakes with a raspberry purée and hot maple syrup. The portion was huge and my pancakes were quite good. My dining companion had the fried green tomatoes and crab benedict which he reports was the best breakfast of his life! The jumbo lump crab was plentiful and the eggs were poached to perfection! We weren't in the mood to do any morning drinking but the Bloody Mary's at the table next to us looked amazing! Overall a great brunch with some delicious food. This was a major disappointment. Everything presented well, but our brunch was weak, flavorless and down right bland. It was a Saturday morning, and I'm assuming a typical Saturday brunch scenario. That being said, we waited quite a while to be seated only to wait even longer once we were seated to be greeted and acknowledged. From there it was meh at best. The bloody mary was good, but the fried green tomato, crab Benedict was lacking. The eggs were over poached, (no runny at all) the hollandaise sauce had no flavor at all. The side order of grits were so tight, that they needed a lot of salt and butter to loosen them up to be edible. To top the whole experience off, the server never and I mean never checked on us throughout our entire meal until we had to ask for the check. I was a bit wary of this place because they do not take reservations and when I got there there was a 60 minute wait time, but it was 500% worth it. Every plate that came out of the back tasted absolutely scrumptious, and I will most certainly be back to try everything else. The one dish that I felt was not up to par with the grapefruit Brulé. It is literally half a grapefruit with some melted/burnt sugar on top and I do not think it is worth it. I went during restaurant week so I got to try two things off a mini menu for $20. I also went with friends, which was a great call so I can try more things. The peach and brown sugar donuts were absolutely heavenly, the cinnamon danish waffles were out of this world, and I can see why that pineapple upside down pancakes aren't the best pancakes in the country. Definitely worth the wait. Parking in downtown Baltimore can definitely be tricky so be sure to plan accordingly! read more

If I could come here everyday I would! Crowded as always, but the wait was not long at all. I was seated within 10-12 mins. After ordering food came out to the table in about 10 mins. Service was phenomenal. Every time I visit I try to get something different but I end up coming back to the shrimp and grits. I've had various items off the menu all of which were good but I always get the shrimp and grits with it...I mean always. Some of the freshest, juiciest, succulent Shrimp you will ever taste it delivers that blacken taste with a hint of sweetness. Consistency is key, and they manage maintain that each time I visit...you're never gonna say ..why'd I order that today?, or boy they must've changed chefs. You're gonna to be faced with though decisions like: should I order the same dish to go? wondering if you can go in the back and check surveillance to see who ate one of your shrimp and in reality it was you. The green tomatoes, and sauce that it's smothered in is what's the phrase: cherry on the top...this is Perfection at its finest. If you're in Baltimore this should be one of your first stops. Whenever I'm in town I'm stopping by even if can't find someone to go with and I gotta look weird and go solo. In closing lol my advice to you!!! Don't leave without getting the peach cobbler. I wanted to get one to go even after eating mines at the table. If you love a good meal or ur having a bad day you need to just find a way to Miss Shirley's Cafe.
