At E gates only Mission Bar and Grill offered clam chowder, no bread bowl but just as well. So comforting and delicious. Perfect taste, not salty, no bacon but I could taste the cubed potatoes, chopped clams and perhaps celery in it. It reminded me of my dad's clam chowder. He was a wiz in the kitchen he could make chioppino, oxtail soup, stew and even pumpkin pie. I tried Tommy Boy today - perfect blend of gin, st German elderflower and lemon twist - yummy! Me and the Chicken wings at the Mission bar and grill in the SFO airport are in love and there is nothing that can tear us apart. I was at SFO for a solid 6 hours and definitely had to make a stop to Mission Bar and Grill. I may be easy to please, but whenever I'm at Mission, I have a lovely time. They play all the great 50s-80s tunes with great drinks and solid food. Sat down at the bar and immediately ordered the chicken wings- my absolute favorite and not special at all. They come out super hot with some yummy buffalo sauce and ranch dressing. The margaritas are great and get the job done! Outside of a lounge, this is probably one of my favorite places to chill and eat in SFO airport! Calm vibes, great music, and awesome staff. We got to SFO early and I was quite hungry for a traditional breakfast. Two eggs over easy, bacon, potatoes and coffee. Everything was cooked to perfection. The only downside was that the butter was cold and solid and the sourdough toast was barely warm. But the eggs were cooked perfect - no clear whites, and had a runny yolk. Potatoes were pleasantly browned and the bacon was cooked through. Exactly what I was hoping for. Had to request a coffee warm up, but other than that, service was attentive. The food is delicious, (i love the chicken sandwiches,) the coffee is delightful, the views are lovely for watching planes, but more than anything the energy is welcoming and joyous. It's comfortable and you can feel the kindness. The restaurant changes what it means to wait at the airport from something we've all known to dread to something to look forward to. Can't say I LOVE this place, and can't say I HATE it either. The food is good, just portions have gotten smaller and smaller each time I go there. Like I get it, some people don't have time to finish it all and to avoid waste, keep the portion small, but for those like me that go to the airport with ample time, I want to enjoy a full breakfast before my flight and to last me a full travel day if I don't get to eat till much later. Servers are pretty nice, some nicer than others but I mean I'm in and out so not too big of a deal. Your food is ready fairly quick, but I wished they had the Denver omelette still, but I guess those take a little longer to prepare. Mimosas are on the lighter side, and it's not even a full glass. So, sometimes we go for round 2 when we have a little more time. The airport is always buzzing and the ambiance is comfortable. Whenever I fly out of San Francisco International Airport, I usually depart from Gate 5 or Gate 6 which is a hop, skip, and a jump from the Mission Bar and Grill. Even though I need an approved bank loan to patronize this venue, I don't mind the inconvenience as I always receive great service, food, and beverages with authority. What I love about this place is that it's bright & airy, and very impressive when approaching it. This is my idea of an airport restaurant, not some cookie-cutter Subway sandwich counter. I always sit at the bar, and I'll usually receive a menu as I order a drink. The food looks really good ... but it also comes at a pretty serious premium. We stopped by Mission Bar & Grill during a layover and I was absolutely starving. The menu has various options that I feel most people would enjoy as well as a decent alcohol selection. Our drink order was taken promptly however I ordered a coke and it was pretty flat, but I let the waitress know and she got me a bottled Mexican coke instead which was great. Our food came out pretty quick and was obviously fresh. I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich and added avocado and it was awesome. They were not stingy with the avocado at all which I appreciated and there was a perfect balance between ingredients. Wow what a journey I had at Mission Bar and Grill tonight. I was enjoying a very mediocre (but pretty tasty) grilled cheese and side salad when I overheard a weird altercation between the staff and a patron: a woman wanted to eat here, her partner wanted to join her in sitting but he had takeaway from another establishment. The manager told the guy that the policy was that there was no outside food allowed -- fair enough -- but then proceeded to be like, really rude about it? I heard him say (because all this happened directly behind me) that it "wasn't his problem" and they needed to leave. Which is one way to handle that, I guess? A different way would have been to offer to give his partner a to-go order. Why are you turning away perfectly good business instead of being a little chill and accommodating while still following policy? Anyway, if that had been where this man's rudeness had ended, I would not be writing this review. What happened afterwards was sort of worse... Again, directly behind me (I'm sitting at the corner of the bar next to a POS station), he tells a colleague, "it's an airport bar, no repeat customers, who gives a fuck?". As a person who's in this airport a lot, and usually chooses this restaurant, this bums me out. I decide to say something. That something is along the lines of, "hey, just so you know, you do have repeat customers, but even if not, it's a major bummer to hear you talk that way." Because it's bad for the business to create negative experiences. He is rude, dismissive and condensing in the ensuing interaction, and walks away in a huff, saying "I'm not going to argue about this with you" (uh, no one was arguing?) and then disappears into the back until I leave. What a coward lol. I later learn he is the nephew of a part-owner. Nepotism is alive and well, and it's bad for business. Not just airport food. Ok so let me be honest. When I say to you, it's been a long day ...it has been the longest. For the record, I haven't slept in over 24 hours, I am en route to a funeral for a very dear friend which happens to be the day before my wedding anniversary. Now I said that to give you some perspective on depth of my long day. My first flight landed early and my connecting flight got pushed back to a later time. Anyhoo...I'm in the airport hangry and tired. I walked around and didn't find what I was looking for (recognizable comfort food). Now mind you, when I stepped off of the first plane, this bar and grill was right in my face...I saw it and assumed it would be an expensive cardboard tasting over cooked fancy airport cafeteria BUT! Ladies and Gentlemen and those of you who identify as neither, please know...I was ALL WRONG!!! My apologies to the owner because I judged your establishment. I was so tired got off of the plane, and it was obvious because when I sat down, I couldn't even decide what to order. So I asked my server, Sandi, what was good...she told me the cheeseburger is popular and the grilled chicken sandwich. So we ordered the grilled chicken sandwich and accepted the complimentary side of fries that came with the sandwich. I also ordered a side of pickles (because I'm a pickle lover) and when I tell you eating the pickles alone made me excited for the sandwich. I had to ask for a refill on my pickles. Now for the record that grilled chicken sandwich was delicious. It came on a toasted bun, with cheese, lettuce, tomato, bacon and the chef's special sauce which surprisingly had a bit of a kick to it. And the fries they weren't just fries with salt on them...these fries had herbs on them...and whatever it was I devoured it and was glad to do so. I was so pleased with the meal, I was excited to pay my ticket. Go figure. Next time, I'll have pictures...but if you're ever laid over or arriving/departing from Terminal 3 at the San Francisco Airport, be sure to stop into Mission Bar & Grill, ask for Sandi and get you one of these GREAT grilled chicken Sammiches. Sorry guys, I was so tired and hungry that I didn't even take a picture first. If it was bad I don't think I had the energy to write it up...but it was so good I had to do it...no matter how cross eyed tired I am today.
