Mission BBQ is amazing in terms of food, customer service, atmosphere, everything. My coworkers and I go bowling once a week and then have dinner afterwards, and finding a place that can accommodate a large group and provide quick enough service that half of our group isn't done eating by the time the other half gets their food is difficult. I'm not a big BBQ person, but occasionally I get a yen. We tried Mission BBQ by the Town Center last week, not wanting to deal with the usual madhouse of TC sit down restaurants. Mission is fast casual, meaning you order at the counter and take a seat, then they call you when it's ready. All I can say is it was all pretty yummy. Good sides, and my pulled pork was very good. I'm very picky about pulled pork, so it's like rolling the dice when I order it. Will it be good, or will it be a fatty mess pile of grossness (looking at you, Willie Jewell's in Yulee)? I am happy to say Mission's pulled pork is awesome. Nice flavor and not fatty and gross. The baked beans had a really good flavor, with chunks of brisket mixed in. On the table are a few sauces to choose from, so you're not stuck with one. My only constructive criticism is my biggest restaurant pet peeve. I know we're in Florida, but it's not summer anymore, and when it's 60 degrees outside, no need to blast the AC. read more

We called in a curbside pick-up order this past Saturday, 04/04/2020. Alicia answered the phone and I could hear the smile in her voice. She was very pleasant and very efficient. She took our order and repeated it back to me to make sure that it was accurate and correct. We arrived at the restaurant about five minutes later and I called to let her know we were there. She brought our order out immediately. She had our drinks in a drink carrier, and had included a cup of ice. She had also included a couple of "extra" items with the food AND a thank you note, with a coupon for a free sandwich! Wow, just wow. We were blown away and so impressed. If you love America and BBQ you need to check this place out. The atmosphere in this place is quite patriotic as you can find employees in the back sporting hats representing which military branch they have served. The food was brought out before I even had a chance to fill my drink up. The food came out quick and warm. Ordered the pulled pork sandwich with Mac N cheese and fries. The sandwich was great and the variety of available sauces makes it better. Everything from sweet to heat. There were six BBQ sauces at each table with more available. The fries were average in my opinion, but Mac N cheese was cooked well. Overall, a solid BBQ spot with good intentions backing it. This place is amazing! I am picky when it comes to BBQ because I CAN make my own (even make my own BBQ sauce), but we tried it anyway. This place is hands down amazing! They have an "American" theme which is awesome. They smoke their own meats! They have ZERO freezers... That right there should tell you how fresh their BBQ taste. There is nothing worse than biting into dry, old, hard BBQ! You won't find that here. They have a big catering truck that is an old military vehicle! And their sides are also mouth watering. Ok. My review of the stars is based on strictly the food. The concept I would give 4 stars. Walking in, very simple wood motif with a lot of nods to the armed forces and various sports. I read their story and love that they support our American troops! At high noon they stop and listen to the National Anthem (be by there for dinner I didn't get to see this on this visit but will return to observe) My 1st visit I got some dinner to go. The menu is simple, But as usual for me it was so simple in my mind I made it more complex than it really is. I got the meat market combo choice with 2 meats. I was super excited to know they smoke their meat using Oak (bonus for folks like me who have severe tree nut allergies) thank you! I chose their brisket and regular sausage link. And I chose to 2-side combo. Meal to be able to get a good sample of everything there. I chose the Mac n cheese and their baked beans all to go. They hooked me up with samples of their 4 or 6 standard sauces to start. There's something for everyone! I tried them all and must say depending on my mood will change up my choice. All very yummy! The brisket was tender and soft. Could have used a touch more salt, but otherwise I was satisfied. The sausage was good, but admittedly I have had others around here that were better. A nice touch I appreciated was the cornbread they served with it. Usually it's a slice of bread, so I liked the change of pace. Don't get me wrong, the food was good overall. But I have had Better for bbq. What sways me more here is the story behind the concept combined with the food. They are newly opened so I will definitely return to try them again after they work the new growing pains out. read more

I am blown away by the customer service here and the way that they treat the military! As soon as you come in the door, you will see nothing but military memorabilia posted on each of the walls! I was told by the cashier that they cater to different branches on different days AND I received a free peach cobbler dessert for being a Navy Veteran!! Man I wish that there were more places like this back at home in Maryland! If I'm ever in Jacksonville again, I will definitely be back!!! Took pregnant wife for dinner and the food was underwhelming... she ordered the 5 bone St Louis style ribs with two sides and the first rack was salty (as if someone just literally poured salt on them) so sent those back for another rack and those were SUPER bland and fatty! We paid over 30 bucks and my food was under portioned. You can do better by going to Bono's as they will give you a large portion for your money. I had the turkey and pulled pork and the size looked like a kids meal. (Two Small slices of Turkey and an half a fist of pulled pork). I was excited to see that there was a new BBQ place in town to try. My husband and I both ordered the 2 meat combo meal so we could try a little variety. We both ordered the brisket (they had 2 different kinds so we each ordered one), pulled pork and turkey w/ 2 sides each. I was looking forward to the brisket, brisket is my fave and my go too at BBQ restaurants. Unfortunately, it was a bit on the dry side, I wasn't overly impressed with either cut that we had. The pork and turkey were both much better as far as being moist. The sides were good but the cornbread was also dry :( They had 6 different sauces on the table, a good variety as far as that goes. We thought the portion size was on the smaller side for what we had paid for dinner. Customer service was fine, no issues with that. As of now, This would not be my "go to" BBQ spot but we would give it another try at some point. read more

No offense to 4 Rivers... this place is amazing and is my new Jacksonville favorite. This place is such an awesome find.. went with 4 people around 8.. so it wasn't busy. They had a couple great local beers on draft. I like supporting local. Great vibe, good energy, and even better food. We tried the pulled pork, sliced turkey, pulled chicken sandwich, and the brisket. They don't mess around. All tasty and tender... 6 bbq sauces to try out and use... a couple of our sides took a few minutes to bring to the table so they sent us a complimentary strawberry shortcake. just now My husband and I decided to have Mission BBQ caterer our wedding. From the time we first met Sam at our food tasting she was nothing but sweet, helpful and very responsive! I have no complaints with the food and set up for our big day. We got so many compliments on the food and everyone was wanting more. Sam even made sure we got to bring a bag of all the food home on our wedding night. The staff was very professional throughout the entire day and wore masks to make our guests feel comfortable. This was my second time here. First time was amazing and i gave it 5 stars. I took my mom with me, she wasn't impressed... for some reason the food was not as good this time as it was the first time I went, I don't know if it has to do with the person cooking it or if they changed ingredients or what... they also removed a side that was really good. Macaroni salad. The atmosphere was rather annoying this time around, the same annoying country music was playing... but last time it didn't bother me as bad because I was so focused on how good the food was, the waitress meant well I guess, but she very quickly became an annoyance because she was asking us how we were doing way too often, and at one point, two employees were moving a table, and it was extremely loud when they were moving it, was very annoying. I also don't like the way they get your food to you, they just yell your name out. So when you're sitting and you're trying to enjoy your company and your meal you're constantly hearing people's names being yelled out and it's pretty annoying. First time here last Friday night...Daniel had the (supposed to be) moist brisket...but it really wasn't moist and not too tasty. I got the Half a Yard Bird Chicken. The dark meat was very tender but not a lot of flavor. The white meat chicken was a little dry and flavorless. They do have some interesting sides, though. Cheesy Potatoes (which, in theory, should have been great, but had some weird spice or something which just ruined the whole thing for me)...Caramel Bread Pudding...Collard Greens (didn't try either of those). The Cole Slaw was on the menu as "Cold" Slaw. Yep. It was cold. Actually the slaw was probably the tastiest item we had at Mission, fresh and seasoned just right! Cornbread was served with our meals and it was fairly dry (some people like it that way, I understand) ...would have helped if some honey butter or something had been available to balance it out. One thing we noticed: no salt & pepper on the tables. Ambiance...large comfortable roomy booths; tables & chairs; and some high top tables. The lighting was way too bright for me! I like a warm cozy atmosphere in a barbecue place. I kinda felt like I was at the dentist's office when they shine that lamp right in your face. Also want to mention...Mission BarBQ is all about honoring military and first responders, and the decor is uniforms and patches and military memorabilia. I understand that every day at noon, they turn off the country music and play the National Anthem! Patrons stand up with hand over heart. So the food leaves a lot to be desired...but I do give Mission credit for the unique patriotic touch. read more

We tried this place today for lunch, we hated it. My wife ordered the turkey sandwich and the besides the taste of the turkey, which she did not like,, the size of the slices were way too thick, she ordered the coleslaw as a side and it had too much vinegar I ordered the chicken, never do but they did not have sliced pork, most of their cuts are pulled which i di not like My chicken was too juicy, too soft, and that in addition to the pink color because of the way it is cooked gave me a really bad impression, i did try it anyway and did not like the seasoning, it felt too grainy, as if it was dried rub with sand. My side, which was not included, you have to pay a la carte for the sides, was the corn in the cob, even that i couod not eat because of how salty it was. Aside from not liking the food, i thought the price was too high. I paid $27 and change for those 2 dishes, 2 sides, and 2 drinks. I'd never even heard of Mission BBQ until the evening of Thursday 5/16/19 when they made the national news for donating more than a million dollars to the USO - curiosity piqued I found out there was a location in Jacksonville, FL just around the corner from my business meeting Friday morning. I love some good BBQ so wanted to give them a try for lunch on Friday, did not disappoint. I liked their brisket, baby back ribs and tater salad. Their craft beer was good as well. Restaurant was clean and though there is no table service everything seemed to flow nicely - order your food, find a seat, get your food, enjoy! The floor staff did a good job taking away dirty trays, etc. Yes, they do play the national anthem every day at noon and the whole place stops whatever they are doing for a few minutes - pretty moving. I also really liked the Mission BBQ 5 ton fitted with a smoker and some grills parked out front. I'd pay good money to have that thing in my yard for a catered event. read more
