Love the idea that Mission BBQ is trying to make a change in the world by doing a little something good for all of our soldiers, firefighters, police officers, first responders, loved ones in service and most of all, our fallen heroes. Not only is their food good but the restaurants are filled with so much REAL memorabilia's. They even designated table to their fallen heroes. It really shows how passionate and caring they are about their peeps who have served. I ordered the brisket and it's so soft! Not sure if you are able to provide a preference for type of cut with the brisket. I didn't really specify but I wish I did a more dryer cut with less fat. This is the first one we went to and gave us the first glimpse at this chain. We definitely are fans and are super happy that they have opened one up closer to us (airport side). They have a good parking lot with plenty of spots and it's easy to get in and out. Once inside you'll grab a menu and go to the line queue for ordering at the register. I like the BBQ chicken platter and the pulled pork sandwich. Both are very good. Munchkin likes their mac and cheese. They have standard soda fountain drinks, bottled water, and a couple of bottled beers. The sodas are self serve. If you like honey for your cornbread, they have some behind the counter, just ask! First time here and everyone is SUPER nice and helpful! We tried a little bit of everything between the 3 of us. My dining partners were especially impressed with the ribs, I believe. From the minute we walked in we were greeted by Heather who was the kindest most helpful cashier I have ever interacted with. She walked us through the entire menu and offered us samples of anything we weren't sure on. Once we finally settled on meals and sat down with our food, Jason came over not only to check on us and how our first time experience was but also to ask if we wanted to try any of the desserts. My never-ending quest for good BBQ continues with Mission BBQ in Oveido, FL. Really good BBQ is surprisingly hard to find in the New Smyrna Beach/Port Orange area, and so a recommendation for a BBQ place while I was in Oviedo, FL turned into a good first visit! I had their two meat sampler combinations (Moist Brisket and pulled pork) with multiple sides: Collard Greens, Maggie's Mac-N-Cheese, mashed sweet potatoes, and the apple cobbler. Everything was really good; like sleep is the next thing you want to do, good. The moist brisket was really terrific (probably the best I've had in recent memory) and without any of the three sauces (more on that later) that the manager/owner provided. The pulled pork actually had good smoke flavor but needed a little bit more moisture with the sauces. The collard greens had some decent heat and tang to them and were excellent. The Mac and Cheese was not just a scoop of it but included the crust (yum). The mashed sweet potatoes were more like dessert than a side but also delicious. The crowning put us to sleep dessert was the actual dessert; an apple cobbler that tasted homemade and just sinfully good. The three sauces were their own Florida Gator Bite ("Tangy, citrusy, and smooth (with less bite than a gator, but still a bit sharp"), KC Classic ("Kansas City Sauce is a midwest classic. Multiple layers of flavors from sweet vinegar, light smoke notes, and a bold spicy finish"), and Tupelo Honey Heat (My favorite: "A little sweet with some Mississippi summer heat, the Deep South's own natural nectar super-coats a surprise kick from habanero."). The team that runs this place is so welcoming; from the manager to the cashier! They even gave me a very sweet hand-written note, from I must assume was a local boy named Stefano, to the vets for protecting him. What a special card and one that is not expected these days. We came here with some friends one evening to compare this place to a Mission BBQ we went to in Fort Myers. The one in Fort Myers was very unimpressive, and we were hoping that this would be a big turnaround for us. The theme and decor of the place is absolutely great. It's a true celebration and honoring of every possible career in which men and women risk their lives for us civilians. Military, police, firefighters, I think I saw EMT's in there. Pictures and patches and banners plaster every square inch of the walls and the booths. It was really something. Something I like. We order our food. I get the pulled pork and the jalapeno & chz sausage for my meats, and I add Maggie's Mac-N-Cheese and a seasonal sweet (bread pudding). My girlfriend got the brisket and also the Maggie's Mac-N-Cheese. We both got cornbread, which had a little sweetness to it, which I like, but no major chunks of corn, which I would have preferred. They also offered an upgrade cup for your drink. It's like $2 more, but that $2 goes to a local nonprofit organization. And you can bring the cup back and refill it for only $0.99. Sign me up. So the mac-n-cheese was very highly recommended by the staff. So much so that we both got it. That never happens, but I'm glad it happened this time. The noodles, the cheese, and the crunchy stuff on top were all top notch. I'm gonna get this again. The bread pudding was fine. It was no 4 Rivers, but I liked it. I'll probably try the beans instead next time. As for the meats, the brisket was solid. It was moist and juicy and it melted in your mouth. The pulled pork was awesome. Not too fatty. And, surprisingly the best meat was the sausage. It had some heat, nicely sized chunks of cheddar cheese, and a snap from the casing that was so delightful. I'm gonna get this every time. One of the main things that caught my attention was the variety of barbecue sauces they offered. There are six on every table for you to sample from different states across the country. From smokey to sweet to heat, they have one that will satisfy everyone, I'm sure. Overall, I really enjoyed this place. This location was much better than the one in Fort Myers. As a customer, when I placed my order, I was asked if I had served in the military. I stated I had not. The clerk said, oh, well I am glad you are here anyway. As I was trying to eat my lunch in peace, another team member came over and sat on top of a chair next to me and said, "I am sorry, but what branch of the service did you say you served in". I stated I had not. She too then said, well we are still glad you are here. Now, I do realize their support for service members, but I felt that I was not valued because I had not served. It was like a "bless your heart" moment. And then I reflected upon my net six figure tax contribution to the IRS last year and my contribution to those who do serve. I guess just being a tax payer is not a welcomed figure anymore to purchase food from you. PS, I do have two adult children serving and one is currently deployed. But that is their service. Industrial kitchen style BBQ, that's what it boils down to. I got the yard bird, and it was not smoky, although it had a nice rub on the skin. The chicken was very soft, it could pass for boiled chicken. The skin was not crunchy at all. It is perfect for people who have problems chewing, so if you are wearing dentures, go for the chicken. I also got some mac, and that was not good, edible, but pure fake Kraft mac from the supermarket. My buddy got a pulled pork sandwich. It was good, and she raved about the collard greens. I do not eat collard greens, so no comments there. Fries and coleslaw were okay. The space is dedicated to veterans, and somewhat glorifies war. I think that sometimes paying homage to veterans mixes in the idea that war is okay. It is not. It will never be. There are no good reasons for war. The only way to advocate for war is violence. If you advocate for war, you advocate for violence, and that involves mass shootings. I first heard from Mission BBQ from friends. This was after I had the displeasure of having Sonny's BBQ. This place and 4River have a similar concept. I got the lean brisket sandwich, and that was delicious. I was given two different BBQ sauce to try, and both were good, but It didn't need it. The brisket had very good flavor. I got it with a side of homemade handcut fries. I love that style of fries, they were so good. When getting my order, they asked me which sauce I wanted. Since I didn't know, they asked me what style of sauces I like, whether sweet, spicy or smokey, and they gave me two good ones based on my answer. I got a brownie as well, and that was a bit disappointing. I like fudgy brownies, and this one was more cakey. Juicy, flavorful with a slight smoky goodness, and slightly sweet. It had just enough crispy pieces to balance it all out. Absolutely amazing and I barely made it to my car before chowing down. The cornbread was definitely a winner. Moist, but crunchy, with little pieces of corn, and slightly sweet & buttery. I'm not supposed to be eating carbs, but I scarfed this down. It's a little far from my house, but I finally had the chance to drive over here to see what the hype was all about. One thing I really liked about this place was that the entire restaurant is decorated with military badges and artwork. As far as food goes, I ordered the 2 meat sampler with pulled pork and brisket (half lean, half moist). My boyfriend got the 10 bone baby back ribs. Don't be fooled by the portion sizes of the meat sampler! It may look small but it honestly filled me up so much! The pulled pork was perfectly smoked, and the brisket was soooo juicy and mouth watering. All of their food was great, but I think the baby back ribs take the trophy on their best dish! The ribs literally fell off the bone to the point I didn't even need to use my fingers! How crazy is that! Honestly the best ribs I've ever had. Also, their sauces are great. I personally liked the smoky and Memphis belle one. Additionally, I came back to get dessert and ordered the caramel bread pudding. Despite there being no shortage of good BBQ places to choose from in Central Florida, we were surprised to find Mission BBQ as one of the top rated restaurants in Oviedo. I knew it was a chain, famous for being veteran owned and operated, but had no idea what sets it apart. My family stopped there on a busy week night. They had a pretty comprehensive menu of all the classic BBQ joint items, but what really surprised me was the selection of sauces. I had a 2 meat sampler with pulled pork and brisket and Mac&Cheese as a side. It was definitely some of the better BBQ I've enjoyed in recent memory. Additionally, though the restaurant is counter service, there was an especially friendly attendant who repeatedly checked in on us and was happy to bring anything we missed when collecting our food. The restaurant was clean and efficient and I appreciated the variety of parking spaces set aside for veterans and first responders. To the owners and Ben (at the Oviedo location): This is the second Mission BBQ my wife and I have eaten at. The first in Tampa off Bruce B. Downs and the second, in Oviedo off Red Bug Road. Having been born in Florida and traveled the southeast most of our life eating BBQ, we were accustomed to good pork, chicken and occasional Brunswick stew. In 2011, we relocated to Texas for over 7 years traveling the state enjoying some of the best BBQ restaurants from Terry Blacks, Hard Eight, Stanley's, the original Rudy's and the original Bodacious in Longview. I began to believe that Texas arguably has some of the best brisket and sausage anywhere. Yes, it's subjective but for us, it is true. Having returned to Florida, I tried to the point of almost giving up on something that was close to Texas brisket. Until Mission. Visiting your Tampa location to see our daughter, we stopped in. Ordered the brisket, collards, green beens and ribs. Everything was fantastic. The rub, smoke, service, and cleanliness could not have been better for our taste. Tonight, we stopped by the Oviedo location on the way back from the airport. Have to say I was not expecting a duplicate experience but happy to say it was just as consistent as the first. We had the brisket (again lol) pork, turkey, collards and complimentary fries. I spoke with Ben and let him know to pass along to the kitchen and pit boss that your brisket is on par with Texas and everything was great. He encouraged us to try the cheesy potato's and baked beans and have us samples to take with us. He explained how you traveled regionally to find all the best sauces, rub and smoke to bring it to Mission and it shows. We appreciate your story, what you are doing for veterans, and bringing us a dinning experience we will come back for. Hope you are around for a long time. I really enjoyed our visit to mission BBQ. My fiancé didn't care for it because it is definitely a smokehouse, similar to 4Rivers. So if you don't like smoked meats this may not be the place for you. After you pick up your order, the staff walks around and makes sure you got everything you need. We had the brisket, pulled pork, maggies mac n cheese, cheesy potatoes, and the cheesecake.
