I had been wanting to hit up their brick and mortar for awhile, but they are never open when I can make it down there, so imagine my pleasant surprise when walking out of a bar on E 6th, starving and headed to another adjacent food truck that should have been open, but wasn't, I came upon the Mission Dog food truck. I had been eyeing the Dogijuku since I had spied it on their menu and at almost 1am, it was the stuff bacon-wrapped hot dog dreams are made of! The pickled ginger, teriyaki glaze, and wasabi mayo had a 3-some in my mouth and it was not only foodgasmic, but so satisfying and filling! The guy manning the stand was super nice and a Dogijuku ninja! Seriously, he had my dog ready in like 2secs flat! I would usually balk at paying $6 for a hot dog, but I think calling what happened in my mouth a hot dog is to do the flavors and quality of the ingredients an injustice. I will definitely be making a trek at some point to their brick and mortar location to relive the ecstasy in a more contained environment rather than standing on a random corner of E 6th at midnight making noises that I am sure violated some kind of city ordinance and using actual napkins instead of the back of my pants and unsuspecting drunk passersby. I have seen this guy for years on the eastside selling hot dogs between the Brixton and the Volstead. It wasn't till one night we were hanging out with some friends and one of them mentioned hey we should grab a hot job from Mission Dog out front. She told me that they have him come out to their job and cater sometimes and they are great. So we did of course. We ordered 3 hot dogs - the Vietdog, the Dogijuku, and the Kim Dog. I tasted each of them and they were all amazing. Each hot dog is unique and like nothing you have would traditionally think of when eating hot dogs. The combinations all worked well together. Each dog is around $5 and well worth it. If you happen to be out and about on the eastside don't pass this guy up like I did so many times ... he has a good thing going here! Don't get all crazy eyed on 2 people giving it 5 stars and I stroll in here with my 3 stars, people. The value is good - $5 for a good sized dog (4) star value. But the actually dog itself seems lacking in crunch and flavor. Yes... It's wrapped in BACON! But the quality of bacon and thinness makes you a little sad inside. The bun is pretty decent though, fresh. I like the creative approach obviously, with the ingredients.. But, most of the dogs on the menu (limited) have ingredients that don't seem to gel all that well together. Convenience - 5* - comes to office. Value - 4* Flavor - 3* Flavor trumps all in most cases. Go check the guy out, not overly friendly or all that personable, but nice. Grab a dog, you will be satisfied, nothing more, nothing less. Stick with the basic Mission Dog (comes with jalapeños) would be my advice. read more

The Vietdog is delicious! I'm not a HUGE bacon fan or a HUGE hotdog fan, but this bacon wrapped hotdog, nestled with cold, crispy slaw, Sriacha mayo and more hit the spot. The menu itself is deliciously creative, with a lot of Asian fusion and influence. The dogs can be dressed up or down how you like, and the bun isn't neglected - it is also of good quality and fresh as can be. Don't be afraid to ask for recommendations if you're feeling a little lost on the menu (like I was). Ordered through Postmates and, for the most part, enjoyed the meal. The Vietdog was excellent. They delivered the slaw/relish on the side. I added about half thinking it was way too much. After a few bites I realized it would taste so much better with all of it. I really liked this one and the spicy mayo was a perfect addition. The mission dog - with the sautéed onions had a great flavor. I just wish the onions had been sautéed quite a bit more. They were still firm and crunchy to the bite. Some may prefer this; but if I am eating sautéed or grilled onions I want them fully cooked. The garlic fries were okay. I think this is a side better served if you are eating on-site. The travel just makes them lose their freshness. They sort of steam in the container. I would definitely order again if I was eating in the restaurant though. read more

Vegans rejoice! This place doesn't advertise it much but they have vegan dogs and they are delicious! This place is a little cart at the steps of the Brixton. The guy who runs it is really nice and even pretended to be entertained when I went on about how I have no idea what to put on my dog, out of lack of experience. I let him decide for me and it was a great choice. It took a minute because he cooks them to order and the vegan dogs on a separate part of the grill. Wow! Just, wow! These are the best hot dogs I've had in Austin so far! These guys came to our apartment building for a Christmas event at the clubhouse. I had the Mission Dog (without jalapeños though, I'm not a fan of the spice) and it was awesome! I loved the flavor combo of the dog itself, the bacon, onions, the condiments, very, very good dog. Surprisingly the bacon didn't over-power the other ingredients in the dog. The pickled carrots and cucumbers cut the spice of the sriracha and spicy mayo nicely. This review is for the new brick n' mortar behind Las Cazuelas. I got the vietdog with a veggie hot dog wrapped in veggie bacon, and it was even better than I imagined. I also got cheese smothered fries, and the cheese sauce was the perfect consistency over very crispy and well seasoned fries. I just found my new favorite lunch spot!
