My first visit to T-Loc's Sonora Hot Dogs and wow, what a way to be introduced to this spot! I met up with a fellow Yelper friend and we got there not long after opening, which turned out to be a very smart move. While we were waiting for our food, it suddenly became a whole scene, it was National Hot Dog Day, and the line just kept growing and growing. [[HIGHLIGHT]]People were fully committed too, hot dog shirts, hot dog hats, I'm pretty sure I saw a walking hot dog at one point. Add in folks bringing their own ice chests of beer and it felt like a little hot dog party.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We decided to go big and ordered every kind of dog they make so we could share and try them all. A super sweet lady brought our order out to us, which I loved. No waiting around trying to hear someone shout out your name. And let me tell you, every single one was damn good. You really can't go wrong here. My favorite ended up being the classic chili cheese dog, because apparently I like to keep it old school, ha. But seriously, Mr. T-Loc knows exactly what he's doing with his chili recipe! I also tried an agua fresca for the first time and now I get the hype. So refreshing and good. Next time, I've got my eye on one of those big burritos because they looked crazy good, no joke. Accessibility wise, they do have accessible parking, which is a huge plus. Found this spot kind of randomly but so glad I did! [[HIGHLIGHT]]It is tucked away in a little food truck park and even though it is usually unbearable in the heat, they have nice fans and umbrellas as well as insect repellent things so it was very comfortable![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I also love that they had a veggie dog and were able to make the special sonoran one with the veggie dog. The sonora hot dog can do no wrong...especially if you go $1 more for the Hebrew National glizzy. They're always friendly and the craving for these hot dogs are real. I don't know when they stopped doing the perfectly grilled jalapeño/serrano though. That was always one of my favorite things about this food truck, but the duros were nice--Made me miss the Mexican food cart guys that sold duros in a huge bag covered in Valentino hot sauce that seem to be no where in Austin. The food truck park off of Burnet seems to have a lot more seating and shade than I remember. Still plenty of solid food trucks here and I hope this place stays for a very long time read more

Finally was able to make it back out to T-Loc's! This food truck is a unique food concept you probably won't find many similar like it in Austin. The staff is very friendly, they do speak Spanish, so vengase a comer! I went on a Saturday night, there wasn't a wait so they attended us very quickly, it was raining so we ate in the car but they have plenty of seating area available for their guests. The have a few selections of cold drinks, the have agua frescas available but they did run out when I went. The Yaqui dog comes with the sausage wrapped in bacon, with beans, carne asada and Monterrey jack cheese. It does come with a onions and a jalapeño sauce, we opted for it on the side but we didn't get the sauce :( IMO the carne asada was chewy and could've used a bit more flavor. Do recommend but just keep that in mind, I've tried it before and it was much better so might depend on the day. Would say 4.5/5 for this one. The Sonora dip is a sausage wrapped in bacon with birria meat, Monterrey jack cheese topped with cilantro and a chile sauce (unsure what kind) with a side of consume to dip your hot dog in. It comes with onion as well but I opted out. Very good flavor, by itself the dog gives taco vibes which is really good you can taste more of the cilantro. When dipped in the consume, it gives it more of the consume flavor like a caldo, takes away the flavor of the cilantro and taco type flavor. Overall very very good. For both dogs it was roughly $21 (without tip), we paid $8 for drinks, total was roughly $37, but don't forget to TIP them, they are hard working and provide amazing customer service. read more

Wow. What an awesome experience this was... The staff is extraordinarily nice and the menu is perfectly uncomplicated. I was nervous to try the bacon wrapped dog but my boss insisted I go for it. I got the Yoqui Dog and it was incredible -- the balance of flavors was insane and I couldn't even tell the flavors apart because the bun and the melted cheese were jolting my body with serotonin. Since I was out and about to try all the foods for the Dine With Maui fundraiser and I was already at 5000 Burnet food truck park, it was about time to try these Sonoran Hot Dogs and they did not disappoint. There was already quite a line at around 6:30p but it goes by quickly and they have some great music playing to boot. I got the Sonara Dog which is a bacon-wrapped hot dog on a steamed bun. The bun is a soft steamed bun that is slightly sweet. It's topped with sauteed and raw onions, pinto beans, mustard, mayo, mustard, and jalapeno sauce. This is all deliciousness though slightly messy but they give you plenty of napkins. You'll wait a hot minute for these but it's well worth the time waiting and there are lots of tables that are shaded right near the truck. read more

Both are pretty heavy but the jalapeno sauce is killer on them, really cuts the fattiness of the hot dog. Each bun is nicely toasted and they are mighty filling. Me and my wife moved to Austin from San Diego. My wife is originally from Tucson. We both miss SD style carne asada burritos so bad since moving to Texas. Tucson also does SD style Mexican food. We searched far and wide for what we both grew up with and took for granted. T-Loc's does this style of burrito perfectly. Asking for what they serve elsewhere is like speaking a different language here. People just don't understand. If you order a carne asada burrito in SD or Tucson for that matter, everyone knows what you want. Grilled steak, pico, guacamole, and salsa on the side. No rice and beans. Five times the amount of meat they put in the mission burritos in Texas. People would look at you like you were insane if you put rice and beans on a carne asada burrito back home. I can't explain how much we miss SD style Mexican food. T-Locs needs to get a brick and mortar place. They will clean up, no contest, number one in the city easily. In San Diego this style of taco shop is so popular they are almost all open 24/7, independently owned, with drive throughs and on almost every corner of the city with a line. We need this here. My dream is T-Loc expands and brings this style of Mexican food mainstream here as well. An added bonus is since my wife is from Tucson she also grew up with Sonoran Hotdogs so coming here is really amazing for us. Never thought i'd every say this about a hot dog but the Sonora Dog here was absolutely life changing! I was very skeptical at first when i first saw how much was going on with the hot dog. It looked like it was drenched in a bunch of sauce & had a ton load of toppings but man was i wrong! Every single bite of the hot dog was absolutely orgasmic. The bun of the hot dog was also a huge highlight! It was perfectly toasted and pillowy all at the same time. I even did my little happy dance as i was eating the hot dog (lol) because it was just SOOOO darn good. I later found out that the owner here previously worked under Thomas Keller at Per Se (a 3 star Michelin restaurant in NYC) as a head chef before opening up T-Loc in Austin. Pretty cool! These are not just your standard hot dogs - these are perfected by a professionally trained chef! Each ingredient is high quality - the hot dog buns are not your typical mushy white bread but they are sourced from a Tucson Arizona bakery and are soft yet crispy. I'm never had a hot dog with such incredible bread. The hot dogs are topped with so much stuff: jalapeno sauce, mustard, mayo, tomatoes, onions, beans. It's a real mouth experience, and each component is well thought out and fits together. Each hot dog comes with a salty and tasty charred pepper and homemade chicharrones made of pasta wheels that are salty sweet and complement the heaviness of the hot dog so well. We love to buy the chicharrones by the bag. Location - it's in a plaza with a bunch of other food trucks so parking is very easy. Very nice surroundings for a food truck with a good amount of tables and umbrellas for shade. Hours - be sure to double check their hours on their Instagram page, as the owner also sells their hot dogs at the Austin FC games and will close their truck for the day. This has happened to us a couple times. Service - we have been multiple times and the owner is the nicest person. He always recognizes us when we stop by. We really enjoy talking to him and hearing about how he created the hot dogs and his own specials. We love these hot dogs and recommend it to our friends and everyone we know all the time.
