Dallas is home to so many upscale steak places and trendy restaurants that it can be hard to tell one from the other. You pay a lot and the food is often decent, but the experience isn't memorable. You don't walk out wondering how soon you can return. Mister Charles is a game changer. The decor isn't stuffy or trite; it doesn't seem manufactured. It feels like I've gone someplace special and unique, there's no place quite like it in Dallas. Service is attentive and knowledgeable, and we didn't feel rushed. From the bluefin crudo to the filet with bordelaise sauce, to the baked Alaska, all the dishes were well executed. The couple dining with us said their steak was the best they'd ever had. On a Saturday night, the entire restaurant was humming, yet it didn't feel cramped or loud. It was fun to people watch and enjoy great food with friends. We'll be back! read more

This place has been recommended by so many of my Dallas friends I had to check it out on my birthday! My friend had reservations to celebrate and right upon arrival we were greeted with the hostess and seated promptly. They're known for their beef Wellington but we did not order it since we were craving pasta but will order it next time. The beef tartare is a must to try for an appetizer and the Uni pasta was filled with so much flavor and umami. Airmail cocktail was definitely our favorite, super fresh and airy. read more

This was a lovely birthday dinner! Firstly, Knox St. is beautiful. I love the classic glamor inside the restaurant and quieter atmosphere with romantic lighting. The restaurant was very kind. We called in advance because we wanted the special beef Wellington but have a dietary restriction and they made a note to have one cooked up for us for our reservation! This was the best Wellington we ever had. We have had a hyped Gordon Ramsay one previously and this knocked it out of the park! The beignets are so prettily made and packed with nice flavor. Very disappointing food after a much anticipated birthday dinner for my wife. I had the swordfish and it was tougher than an overcooked steak and was flavorless. 2/10. My wife had the Halibut which was decent but nothing you couldn't get anywhere for much less. My daughter had the spicy Arrabiata - it was good but not special. The "Cesar" was very bland and the first bites - Canopes at $11 each - were again very ordinary (except the truffle grilled cheese, which was tasty). Ugh, I want to rave about this place, but it was OK and we really hoped it'd be better. The service from the waiter was fine, but the sommelier was so great and I loved the massive wine list. The food was just fine, but not at the level I'd have expected from the reputation and price. The carpaccio was great, the uni carbonara pasta was good , but the lamb Wellington was dry, tough, and flavorless. The ratatouille was bad, mushy yet toothsome ruined by an overabundance of bell peppers. Same goes for the gummy mashed potatoes. I wanted to mention something, but no one came by for so long it ultimately wasn't worth it. I will say the beautiful atmosphere was nice, but I really doubt we'll be back. read more

Michael always greets us with a warm welcome when we check in for our reservations You have to try the Blue Fin Crudo as an appetizer. It's so fresh and full of flavor. My favorite pasta dish is the Arrabiatta with a small gem Caesar salad. I wish I could love this restaurant like so many other but I had a very bad experience. My reservation was for 8:45pm and I was not seated until 9:40pm. I think it's disrespectful and reflects poorly on restaurant management having excited guests wait an hour to be seated for dinner. Once we were seated I did feel like they put %100 of their energy into correcting the situation with great food and service. I will likely try this place one more time. Tried the beef carpaccio (so salty) and duck pasta (also salty and not especially good in general). Cauliflower should not be on the menu. Not good and doesn't really fit. Baked Alaska was terrible. Lots of customer complaints were discussed in earshot. Should probably stop that. For drinks, did the crime of passion (good), gin martini (nothing special), and a margarita (solid). It's still a fun dinner because of the very Dallas scene. And management seems interested in the quality, so this might even be good one day. But right now, it's all hype. Beautiful decor and ambience. 1930's vibe with tropical plants, harlequin floor tiles, clubby bar area. Attentive service. Our waiter brought us a complimentary small plate that was delicious and got the ball rolling. Every plate was delicious. the sommelier was extremely helpful and unpretentious. Just enthusiastic. The bartender did not know how to make a Paloma -- it tasted like a margarita. We sent it back twice and then just decided to drink it. That was the only negative. One other bright spot: we got in at the last minute and I'm not sure how. I thought I had made a resy for another night because the only available times were before 4:30 or after 10:00. The management of this place is horrible. We had a reservation for 545 through the VIP service and was told they would have a booth for us. When we arrived, they tried to set us at a terrible table with multiple booths open and told us to come back at 8 pm if we wanted to booth. Do not go to this restaurant.!! JC We booked through Bridgette via email and she arranged a booth at 5:45, not sure what the problem is with the poor management, but not happy with the outcome especially when multiple booths were empty and we were supposed to be booking through what we were told was a VIP service since we have visited the restaurant on several occasions. We were sent a personal email stating it was the VIP service for Duro Hospitality. The email address is directly for Mister Charles. We have made multiple reservations through this system in the past with no problems. Bridget called and stated she had to move some things around but was able to secure us a booth at 5:45. My wife called back and left her a message confirming that would work for us. Not happy that we made the reservation through what's supposed to be the VIP service to get presented a crappy table with no decent options other than to come back at 8pm for a booth. I had high expectations and was not let down. Let me start by saying that the gentleman at Duro Hospitality continue to outdo themselves. They rarely miss the mark and they are getting bolder and more creative with each new restaurant. Mister Charles is new to the scene but definitely one of the best places in town. As a foodie, it makes me excited to be in Dallas. The ambiance and service are top notch. They pay such close attention to every detail. I love that the server talks about the history of the building. The interior is cozy yet luxurious. It's not too loud so you can enjoy conversation with friends and strangers alike. The wait staff are welcoming, knowledgeable and helpful. I got a simple gin martini to start and it was fantastic. As for appetizers, the flavors of the blue fin crudo were fresh and bright. The corn and truffle beignets were also delightful. The truffle duck berlingot was well-balanced and the carbonara was not too heavy, but packed with flavor. I live in Texas, so I've eaten a lot of steaks, but I think their Wagyu New York strip was the best steak I've ever had. The creamed spinach and pommes aligote were creamy and delicious additions. For dessert, we sampled the baked Alaska and soda fountain sundae, an homage to the building's history. Both were okay, nothing life-changing. Went to a new place on Knox called Mister Charles. Must say we had an excellent time. Started with a gin martini with a little twist where they added orange bitters to it. Next I had chilled east coast oysters with a green tomato mignonette. Again exquisite tasting. Salad was a classic Cesar. Entree was diver scallops with caviar sauce potato fondants. My Thai crudo appetizer was very good. Very fresh and flavorful. We ordered a pasta carbonara with uni and was delicious. I ordered the scallops which were good nothing to write home about. My husband's filet mignon was good not extraordinary for the price. The biggest disappointment for this type of restaurant was that they brought the pasta and entres at the same time . Food: 4.0/5.0 The food was well executed and nicely presented. That said I would not consider the dishes to be that inventive but rather solid renditions of the classics with a bit of a modern twist. The Dover Sole was prepared in a traditional lemon caper sauce and was a tad overcooked but still very tasty. The pasta was Al dente and had a vibrant and spicy Arrabbiata sauce although could have used some more ricotta to help balance the dish and spiciness. The blue fin tuna dish was my favorite app and had good citrus and spice notes without overpowering the fresh tuna and the Asian fusion worked well there. The corn and truffle beignets were crispy and light, not your traditional doughier beignets which were complimented by a delicious crème fraiche. The mashed potatoes were some of the best I've tasted and incredibly creamy and smooth. Also the canapes were tasty in particular the egg with caviar. The food presentation was classic and refined but not interesting or overly sophisticated. Service 4.5/5.0 Our waitress was very friendly but could have been more attentive during the course of our meal. The highlight of service was the folks in charge of water as we always had our glasses refilled without asking throughout the meal. Also the staff who delivered the food did so professional and eloquently by describing each dish as they set it on the table which is a nice touch and appreciated. The food came out quickly and at a good temperature with the exception of the fish which seemed to take much longer to come out. I also thought the fish could have been a tad warmer. Ambiance/Decor 5.0/5.0 The ambiance was lively and sophisticated. The noise level was moderate and there was good energy though out the restaurant. The decor is immaculate and visually stunning. That said they need to implement a dress code of some sort as some patrons clearly looked out of place. That said I give them very high marks on ambiance and decor. Value: 3.5/5 Value is a tough one. While I can appreciate the location, ambiance and decor. I think the food and service fell a bit short of where it needed to be for a higher mark. The portion sizes on some of the items were solid while others were a bit too small. Mainly the pasta and fish dishes. The service was good overall but not amazing. It's a fun experience and a solid establishment but for $98 for dover sole you expect perfection. read more

What a beautiful space! We received attentive service from our waitress, as well of other staff checking in periodically. I suggest bringing your reading glasses if it's difficult to read a menu in dim lighting. First off I want to say the bar is fantastic! We have come and grabbed cocktails a few times and the service and drinks have been amazing. However, when we tried to grab dinner here we were utterly disappointed. The service was average and the food was overpriced for the quality. I had the honor of celebrating my birthday at this dreamy, elegant, decadent, and gorgeous restaurant. My friends and I were waitlisted originally for a 5:30 pm reservation, and four hours before we got a text that there was a cancellation. I was OVER the moon. The waitstaff were so professional, and had the best recommendations and really were able to discuss the menu in detail. The actual layout and design of the restaurant exuded opulence, and made the whole night seem like a dream. The food. Oh the food. My top picks for the night were the corn and truffle beignets, which had this cream dill mixture, and the lamb Wellington (which was perfectly cooked), and for sides, the pommes aligote and charred broccolini were divine. You have to end the night with the soda fountain sundae and the pillow mint cocktail. I will say though, there is not one wrong dish. You could order anything and it will be scrumptious. I went to this restaurant with my grandmother and mother. We ordered the caesar salad, three filet mignons, and a side of mashed potatoes and spinach. Unfortunately, the caesar salad was way too salty and garlicky for our liking. However, the filets' were cooked to perfection and the accompanying sides were nice as well. To the end the meal, my family and I ordered the chocolate cake, which was honestly the best thing we ordered. Overall, the food was pretty average, especially considering the prices.
