I was planning an event for my organization to honor our veterans in conjunction with a Juneteenth celebration and reached out to this company to see if they could accommodate approximately 30 people. When I called on Tuesday, the representative I spoke with checked availability and told me they were available during the time I needed. She instructed me to complete the online request form and said she would email me the information afterward. The following day, after not receiving any communication, I called back and left a detailed message regarding my request. When I finally received a return call, I was told they did not have enough time available and could only accommodate an earlier timeframe. This was confusing because I had only submitted the online request based on the assurance that my requested time was available. During the call, the representative stated that an email had been sent but had bounced back. However, before ending the conversation, she also mentioned that she had sent the information to me, yet I never received any correspondence. The lack of communication and conflicting information was disappointing, especially since we have used this company in the past and had a much better experience. Booking was very easy. They respond pretty fast. I started the booking back in January for my son's graduation party in June. I was unsure how busy they would get, so it was better to be safe than sorry. I spoke with Andrew regarding details of the booking & what came with the services. He explained the whole menu was available & they can serve up to 70 people in 1 hour. That sounded perfect. I decided to move forward with the reservation & you can either pay a deposit or the full amount. The day of the event, the truck arrived early & I was able to talk to the driver regarding details. I did notice more than half the menu was crossed off but didn't ask about it. Then when it was time to serve my guests, they all told me a lot of the items on the menu weren't available. The only thing offered to my guest were soft serve in a cone or cup with toppings. Sundaes, banana splits, & floats weren't an option. My son asked the driver why & she said all she had were toppings. I called the next day after our event & spoke with Andrew again. He apologized for the mixup & it was a miscommunication with the driver & dispatch. He also explained, sometimes they do limit the menu to ensure guest are served in a timely manner. That is fine with me, but it was not communicated. He said he would look into it further and get back to me. I ended up writing an email as a follow up, and Andrew finally got back to me. They were able to accommodate a partial refund due to the issue on their end. Overall they have great service & my guests were happy but it was the expectation vs what was actually delivered. We got ice cream over the weekend and had a less positive experience. The cone I got was considerably smaller than on any other visit - like half the size. I paid with my credit card and after I tapped my card the girl pulled the cc terminal back to her side of the counter and we left. When I got my email receipt later I saw that she gave herself a tip! wow. bold move and super shady. I have disputed the charge with my cc company, but advise others to make sure the transaction shows as completed on your end before walking away. read more

It was a fun way to see our neighbors. Since there's been a new driver, though, it's completely changed. The truck now speeds down our quiet residential street without even stopping. I was sitting at my desk just now when my boss came in from outside and said as a casual aside that the Mister Softee truck was on the corner. I stopped what I was doing, spun around in my chair, and said, "Are you serious?? I've been wanting to try them for a while but the truck is never near me!" He said it was there, that it was parked next to the taco truck that's always on the corner of our block, that he was pretty sure the dude driving it was getting some tacos, but maybe he's still there? I grabbed my coat, scarf, and purse, and ran out without another word. Across the street and down to the end of the block I half-jogged, half-speed-walked, and lo, there dude was, burrito in hand, walking back to his truck which was parked next to the taco truck. Guy was super nice, said hi, and asked if I wanted ice cream. I said yes please, gave the menu a quick perusal, and went with the strawberry sundae ($6.00). He instantly (literally, there was no one else there) served it up. Whole transaction, including getting the sundae, took maybe a minute at most. It was simple and to the point: creamy ice cream, a *ton* of strawberry sauce (too much, actually), and chunks of strawberries. The sauce wasn't too cloyingly sweet, just the right amount. He did put too much sauce in the cup though -- it was threatening to overflow over the sides when he handed it to me, and then did after just a few seconds of holding it, and it dripped all over the front of my coat. Overzealousness with the sauce aside, this was a nice, simple sundae for a decent price and a good way to close out the work day. Apparently they're over here every Tuesday (corner of W Ave 140th and Merced in San Leandro), which is why I've never seen them because I usually work from home on Tuesdays. I may have to work from the office on Tuesdays more often so I can try more of the things on the menu that caught my eye. read more
