First and foremost I must mention that I am not a fan of Asian food, maybe because my entire childhood consisted of ONLY Asian food. And second, I'm not really into buffets. I don't eat much anyway,  so it'd be a waste of $ to have me be in any type of buffet restaurant.  And third, I'm a picky eater. Yeah, I know I'm a complicated human being. Now that that's out of the way... OOOH HEAVENS, this restaurant was amazing! I just recently moved to Fresno so it was my first time eating here. I have gone to many other buffets throughout Fresno during my previous visits, but this is by far the best Asian -to be specific, Japanese- buffet. This past Sunday, after Church, I came here with my boyfriend and his family {His dad is a regular}. I can see why. The sushi buffet was yummy. And I'm very particular with sushi and I know everyone else is too {don't you lie}. But I enjoyed them all, and yes, I ate all the choices bestowed in front of me. The sushi may have not been fresh, but with some extra sauce on the side, everything was good. As you can tell from this post, I did not die from "old" sushi. Next, I moved on to seafood. The seafood selection was angelic. I love me some good seafood. It may have not been the good ol' high-class crap I would eat back in SD but I enjoyed it just as much. Alot of selections, which is a plus. I wish I had seen the raw oysters {over by the salad bar} before eating the cooked ones. By then I was already full. Don't get me wrong, the cooked oysters were delicious, but I prefer raw. The parents are fans of the soup, which looked yummy and very oriental, a must try. My bf had Mongolian noodles, he said it was "the bomb". The bro had a fat plate of lobsters, which he seemed to enjoyed because it was all over the table and his face. Soo, after picking at all you can eat seafood, I moved on to "Chinese food"- eh nothing special. It was whatever. But honestly I think ALL Chinese food, no matter where you go, taste the same. Again, I'm not a fan but what the heck, I was at a buffet with my bf's family, might as well try everything and make their money's worth. And I'm glad I did. We left very satisfied. The staff was on their a-game, picking up our finished plates, refilling drinks, giving us more napkins without me having to ask for more, which in my books is awesome because everywhere else I have gone to so far in this town, I had to constantly wave down a waiter for more napkins. It was a busy Sunday but the staff was attentive. And football was on... sweet! The staff was constantly smiling, saying hi and bye AND thank you to people coming and going. Getting our bill and paying was quick. Gee, what else can I say? While walking out, I did notice the big board of cocktail drinks they offer- oooh, keeping that in mind. Oh, and a big plus, the place was clean. I literally HATE dirty and smelly asian restaurants, but this place was oriental, clean, and spacious. I read previous reviews and they were all bad. This was the second time I went to this restaurant (the first time was dinner about a month prior), the third for my husband. We happened to be in the area for Valentine's Day at about 12:15, lunchtime. The food was "meh", not very hot, about the same as the last time I was there. The real kicker for this restaurant was when we got the bill for the 8 of us at the table: $118 for meals and 7 sodas, with NO TIP included yet. Do the math. We just got charged $12 per plate for the lunch that was advertised at $8 as you come in the door. When we asked the waitress if she could correct the bill she said it was correct ~ since this was a "HOLIDAY" the prices went up. She said it said so on the menu, but I did not see any mention of anything on the menu, and the sign that is plain as day as you walk in the door showed lunch price of $7.95. We were told that there was different food out on the buffet than there is on other days at the restaurant and I'm here to tell you that they had the exact same thing the first time I went. The cashier threatened to call the police because we didn't want to pay for the lunch at the stated price, asking that the price be corrected. She began yelling and making a scene, and my husband started getting upset. One of the waiters even came over to the table where we were waiting, mocking my husband and cursing. Not cool at all. If I could give a fraction or zero stars, I would. Oh, and I didn't even mention the hair that one of our party found in their food. Gross!! read more

just another asian buffet restaurant in town. i wasn't impressed. everytime i have eaten there, the place was packed. i guess there is no buffet place like Mitsui in Clovis. food selections kind of small compare to similar places in town. one thing that stood out to me the most during my last visit was that they were really cheap with their sushi. rolls had TINY LITTLE pieces of raw fish. also, they stopped serving sashimi! i guess you really can't expect much from $11 buffet in clovis, right? read more

Loving good Asian food I was excited for a buffet style. However upon arriving an hour before closing time I found the sushi and sashimi way past their fresh stage. The hot dishes were about what one would expect from a cafeteria style food court. If you find yourself there you can pick your way through the many options enough to compensate for the loquat price but with the long list of great local options I won't be going back. Came for dinner and it was sorely disappointing. Almost all of the food I ate there was cold. Most of the seafood and meat selections must have been sitting there for a while. First time there and it was not good. Some of their food were too salty and they charge for drinks even water! Not a lot of good food would rather go to A-star buffet! A guy waiter keeps forgetting about the things we ask for and we had to repeatedly ask again. Maybe they are short on staff or something but I can see the waiter and waitress running around getting things for customers. They ran out of spoon too! It's really hard to enjoy your food when the restaurant is hot and muggy inside. We should have known there was something wrong when we walked in and there were fans blowing around the room. Hadn't been here in a while (about 1 year), so I took my granddaughter and two children 5 and 2 years old on Friday at about 4:30 pm and I paid $52.00! They don't go by age, they just charge per person. And there food was not as good as it used to be. I could have had better at my favorite Chinese restaurant and for less plus tip. I had called ahead of time for prices. I called at 2:48pm to be exact on a Wednesday. I was told by the lady that the price was 10.99 per person and I asked what about children. She tells me same price. I repeat the price and tells me yes. 10.99. So my husband I go to eat. The food wasn't the best but i ate it anyways since we were going to have to pay anyways. We get the tab and it reads 15.99 each adult and 7.99 for my daughter. So i go ask why and she tells me that after 3:20 it is considered lunch. I will admit that it was on there but I didn't think to read since I was told it would be 10.99. The time on the tab was 3:28. They said because I tasted the crawfish they couldn't give me the told price, because those are for dinner. They had just put it out when i was on my second plate. I asked to speak to manager and said manager wasn't available. All they did was give me a 10 gift certificate that expires in a month and deducted 5 from my tab. Service was not the best. read more

No, thanks. We came here because it was conveniently located next to a store we had to come to, and we were hungry. We will never come back again. Nearly everything, including the sushi had definitely been sitting out...for awhile. The buffet area is not cleaned well and the pizza looked at least a day old. I was brave enough to try the orange chicken and the sweet and sour chicken, and both were dry and lacked flavor. Chow mein and potstickers were okay, but I couldn't finish them because I was too grossed out and just had to leave. It says on the sign free buffet on your birthday details inside so my husband and I went and well when we got there we weren't even given a chance to ask about the free buffet until it was too late and when we did ask we couldn't understand the answer. Mmm.... Buffet, pretty much sums it up. Strap on the old feed bag and get yer fill. Buffet, must be Latin for diet buster! About the establishment, spacious with Japanese cuisine on one side Chinese on the other. I didn't partake of the Chinese food, I know where to find good Chinese food even in Fresno so I concentrated on The Land of The Rising Sun. On this night there was an extraordinary display of sushi with favorites California Rolls, spicy crab etc. to more colorful entrees with names I'm not familiar with but enjoyed anyway. Tried the tuna, salmon and yellow tail sashimi along with all the other offerings and thoroughly enjoyed the flavors of each. I high recommend the pho bar for a change of pace. The broth is hot, flavored with your choice of meat or seafood (try something exotic.. octopus anyone) along with a variety of noodles and assorted vegetables. Present your ingredients to the soup chef and he will blend the necessary spices and flavors to provide you with an aromatic bowl of heaven. Deserts...not a huge offering mostly small cake portions, jello, cream puffs and fruit. The frozen desert is a lactose free concoction that although tastes like chocolate/vanilla just doesn't have the right texture to pass as soft serve. The wait staff is definitely johnny on the spot. I have an issue with the sushi master, he smacked my hand with chopsticks when I inadvertently used the wrong tongs for my sashimi selection. Hey how am I supposed to know the difference when the tongs are all the same color and in the same area. How about color coded tongs for sushi or sashimi. I tried to ask the soup chef about which aromatics to select but in his best broken English said he doesn't speak the language. Funny, when he was about to prepare my mixture as a Mongolian BBQ and I told him it was for soup he told me quite clearly I should have used a bowl instead , and I would have except there all behind the partition. To quench your thirst they offer the standard sugar beverages along with a nice selection of domestic and Japanese beers and a limited offering of cocktails. Will I go back....well my wife enjoyed her meal so what do you think? At least I understand which tongs and bowls to use from now on! read more

If I could rate it 0 I would. I've been there previously many times before because my husband loves their sushi bar. I've never written a bad review before. The only reason why I'm writing this bad review is because the waitress threw away my daughter's sippy cup and claimed she didn't. One of the customer said she did and yet she denied it. I'm pretty sure she did that because my daughter had left a mess on the floor. She's ONLY 1, what do you expect? She can't eat like grown ups yet. Give her a break. Not only that, they're rude. If you do something wrong or something they don't like-make a mess they'll hate you forever and disrespect you. If you have kids who are under the age of 5 don't bother going. Or if you do go, don't take a sippy cup or anything you can forget to take it back with you. read more

So I am sitting in this restaurant right now and the only things I'm eating are fruits and ice cream because everything else was unedible. My BBQ pork was rock hard my tempura broccoli was soggy the shell on the fried shrimp was super glued to the actual shrimp the kimchi had garlic chili in it instead of the red powder the pickled cucumber was sweet. It was just horrible. Save yourself an upset stomach and appetite and go somewhere else--this place is worst than any other bad buffets you've ever been to. read more

I saw a number of the negative reviews here and thought to myself, "Well, it's a buffet. It's hard for buffets to fare well on Yelp. Surely those reviewers were just being too picky or had overly high expectations." Sadly, though, I can see why it has fared so poorly. Now, Mitsui was certainly not the worst place I've ever eaten, and at about $10/person for a weekend lunch buffet, the price isn't bad. The selection of options is ok. However, despite not being someone who is terribly picky about buffet food and who isn't necessarily a quality connoisseur, I was still not really satisfied. A good bit of the food was rather bland (even by buffet standards), and the temperature of the food was rather off-putting. Both the hot food and cold food were room temperature at best. I was also rather disappointed by the sushi. While there was a fairly decent selection of sushi options (probably about a dozen or so), the sushi was room temperature and was not labeled. So, in some cases, it was impossible to guess what was in a given roll. As far as the restaurant's appearance, it seemed relatively clean and sufficiently decorated. So, while this wasn't the worst dining experience of my life, I don't know that I will be in a hurry to return any time soon. read more

Probably the only thing I liked was the rice & fries everything else tasted weird & the food was not even fresh, it was lukewarm. They do not have a lot of variety & it made my stomach hurt. I went today and enjoyed the place the mgr was great delightful friendly the waiters and waitresses where well dressed extra friendly fast service on my refills attended our every need we took kids they made a mess no problem they rushed in cleaned up the place and was kid friendly awesome no problem there and the food was super delicious yummy great fresh hot everything I was looking for I found I eat until I was full every one at my table were happy enjoyed the meal was super happy to be there we will be back again I would definitely recommend this place to all my family and friends great job guys keep it up ! read more

I almost didn't go here because of some of the horrible reviews, but come on people, what were you expecting? It is a buffet with seafood, sushi, etc for around $11 or $12 a person (can't remember exactly what I paid). The atmosphere is far more pleasant than many of the other Asian buffets in town and all of the employees here are extremely friendly! Often when I leave these buffets, I am clinically depressed due to over-consumption of greasy food items and watching many overweight people gorge themselves on food in trashy surroundings. Here, I experienced little to no depression after dining. There are several other things which really distinguish this place from the other buffets.. You can get made to order noodle dishes here which are super tasty - this is included! You select the items (shrimp, vegetables, chicken, other seafood, etc) and then select your noodles and the chef will either make you soup or fried noodles right there for you. They also have pretty decent sushi and sashimi, plus an array of Chinese favorites such as chicken feet, steamed taro buns, and many classic Chinese seafood dishes. Love this place, so many food options and all for $8.50 a person, they were constantly changing trays so nothing was old or dry, new sushi was always being made, there desert bar was a little lacking, but after trying all the different options of food they have you don't have room for it anyways. I have been here at least six other times since my initial review and I am still perplexed at all the negative reviews about this restaurant. I have never been asked for a tip. The staff are always extremely friendly. The food is always fresh, whether for lunch or dinner, and the trays are always kept rotated. The hot food is hot and the cold food is cold. Our drinks are always kept full. There is always someone using the floor sweeper to keep the carpet clean. I can't help but feel there are some personal vendettas against the restaurant owners/managers that are making there way onto the Yelp reviews. The Japanese foods available every time we've been include sushi, gyoza, teriyaki, and wakame salad. They also have Chinese foods and a Pho soup as well as a dessert and cold salad bar. We have celebrated several birthdays here with large groups of 12-13 people. We generally tip at 15-20%. I have never had any rude service by a server or hostess here. The only negative aspect of this restaurant is that the bathrooms need to be renovated/updated. They look dingy even when clean. Also, they do charge more on holidays and Sundays. However, they also bring out better food items. We have been there for the Sunday buffet and the all-you-can-eat buffet then includes more sashimi items and crab legs, as well as more whole carved meat items and seafood items, so you do get more expensive items for the cost. This place continues to be a family favorite. You can't beat the value. I did recommend it to a friend who was put off by the whole steamed fish. (She didn't like seeing the fish head at the buffet). Nor did she like seeing octopus or chicken feet. There are authentic Asian foods here, so keep that in mind when choosing a restaurant. Yet, the sushi selection, the bbq pork, broccoli beef, and the stuffed crab shells are some of my favorite foods in the Clovis/Fresno area. If you've read the bad reviews, check it out for yourself before deciding against it. If you find it to be a decent place, please write a good review to offset these bad ones. This was one of the worst buffet I ever been to. My bf, me as some friends went around 9:05pm. I understand it was literally an hour before they close. As a Manager you should at least let the cooks know they should be make some foods fresh. I got a plate took me 10mins to decide what I wanted because some just look nasty and old. We all sat down and I started to eat the rice. Rice was good but not the rest of the food were good. We were not sure if we should tell them that we want our money back because we didn't even finish the first plate we got. So I said I had it this is gross. So I went up front and asked for a manager. Him and his coworkers were eating when you clearly think they should be working and making sure things are good. I said politely I didn't like the food it was nasty but I'm willing to just pay the drink. I barely touched my first plate. He told me sorry we can't do that you been here for 20mins. I then explained how it went down. He said no I only could give you 30 percent discount. The dang bill was $38 and only gave me $11 off and change. He said I can't give you free food. When clearly he's eating the free left over foods. Why would it matter? It's old nasty food. He then said well we close in an hour that's why. Then I paid cash $26.37. Then I went back to my bf and friends. He got upset and went to the front and explain the situation. The manager himself was arguing with him and I. He was such a disrespectful manager I ever met. He said you been here for 30 mins already. I said well actually. 15 mins and he other 15 is dealing with you. HES SUCH A RUDE MANAGER I WILL GLADLY PUT HIS NAME OUT HIS NAME WAS YONG. worse experience In my life. I would never treat my customers like that. Not many buffets of this style serve crab legs every evening and all day weekend. They do it here. I like this restaurant!!

Okay, so we went for dinner. Crab was on the buffet menu. So we got a big plate of crab to split. Uh oh, no Crab Crackers. So we asked the waiter. He said there wa non due to large crowd. So we waited, and asked another waiter. He said he would get one. Okay we're getting frustrated and the waiter brings our checks. Oh, by the way no one ever picked up our used plates. We asked to speak to the ,manager and by this time restaurant was nearly empty. We said we never got a crab cracker. He said we ate the good part already. What? We wanted to eat the claws! He didn't say I'll get you one right away or attempt to go in kitchen and wash one or have an employee wash one. He said take them home! What? We didn't want to take crab home to crack it we had wanted to eat there. By the way other stacks of crab were being wasted also because of no crab crackers. Manager apologized only after I said he should and he should have helped us out. Maybe he needs to be trained in the restaurant industry etiquette? read more

If I can give zero stars, I would. This place have the most horrible service ever. I have had bad experiences each and every time we go, never going back, they lost my business forever. Here's one incident: my sister asked for water, the waitress clearly saw her but proceeded to do whatever she was doing. I decided to give it a try, again, she ignored us. Finally, I said in a loud enough voice, "well I guess we won't be leaving any tips then." Oh man did she hear us, she walked over and started saying stupid stuff like, "every time you guys come, you never leave tips, and I worked so hard." It was our SECOND time there, plus, we had a different waitress our first time (and I always make sure to leave tips). I was furious as this point. How can someone (esp OUR waitress) be so rude to neglect us because of what someone else did to her. THIS is what you call bad customer service.
