I met some friends for lunch here a few weeks ago on a Saturday for lunch. I recommended it based on liking it years ago when we lived in the area. When we arrived about half the tables were occupied. The restaurant looks clean but the decor a little dated. Our drink orders were taken right away. The menu is pretty big, it was difficult to decide. I went with the crispy noodles with veggies and gravy/sauce over it which is one of my favorites. It came with a cup of wonton soup which was absolutely delicious! There was a short wait for the food which was fine since we always have plenty to talk about. The food came out and the portions were huge. We all liked our food but None of us could finish lol. I did need to add a bit of soy sauce to my noodles, it was a little disappointing that the sauce didn't have more flavor. I was also disappointed that there was so much of it that my noodles got soft quickly but that was minor. EMW is out of the way but hopefully I will be back soon to try more items. read more

Located in the Pavillion shopping center off of West/Bullard, this place is tucked away in the corner with outdoor patio dining. It was a nice day, but we opted to eat inside. After driving around all morning I was ready for some Chinese food. First time here & I let Yelp guide me. Inside was very clean & service was quick. Ok we were the only one inside. I ordered the lunch plate of mushroom chicken with fried rice, one egg roll, and egg drop soup. I burned my mouth on that soup. Tell me now, why Chinese restaurants always keep their soups super hot! It would be great on a cold frosty day, but today is nice sunny day. Egg roll was so-so. The main dish was flavorful and it smelled good. I could smell the fresh garlic. The chow mein noddles were at the bottom and crispy. I'll say this much, my lips will be moisturized for 48hrs with all the oil on my plate. I didn't finish all and took it to go along with my Iced-Tea. Time to cash out. Now here is where it gets tricky. I love tap pay, Apple Pay. So when I asked if I had to go to the register or can I pay here, my server went to retrieve the machine. Well the machine was her cellphone. I tapped pay not once, but twice. It showed two pending payments on my end, but nothing on her end. I didn't have my cards with me, because Apple Pay always works for me. Well she didn't feel comfortable that the charge went through so I used a different card. Tap pay as well. Payment was denied on her machine, but showed pending on my App. So now we're talking $60 pending for a $20 lunch. Ok let's try this. I manually entered my card into her phone and I signed, again no charge. So I told Cindy, I don't have my cards, but I can get cash and come back and pay. But if these pending charges go through, you'll be hearing from me and I'll let all of the Yelp universe know. She then went back to the register and tried her own card and said that her card worked. After all that, I went to my car and wouldn't you know it, found my physical card. I went back inside and we ran the card and Voila, charge went through. See Cindy, I was good for it. In no way was I trying to get a free lunch. Now, I hope your business does the same. I'll be watching both of my accounts closely for the next 24hrs. The setting is a quiet, come in and sit wherever you'd like, relaxed atmosphere. They are very busy taking and passing out orders of the people coming in. We tried the orange chicken with white rice (the sauce was OK/chicken was tender/rice was a bit tough), the buns (fluffy and chewy, but lacked flavoring and felt almost store bought), and the fried rice. We ended up taking most of it home and didn't eat our leftovers, which is rare for us. I believe that food should stand on its own without flooding it with sauces and chili oil, but that wasn't the case here. Lots of extras were needed to supplement the lack of flavor. Customer service was really good. Maybe on a different day I may come in and try something different, but not it fell short on this occasion. read more

This is a classy, clean Chinese restaurant with plenty of great options and great portions. Located in a cozy corner of the plaza, there's also plenty of parking. I came on a Tuesday for lunch because this place is right by my workplace. There's covered, outdoor seating available, something that I really like as a recurring theme in this plaza. When you walk in, there's a place by the door to wait. I was seated quickly and served a drink by the friendly waiter. I ordered the Mongolian Beef lunch combo and it was definitely worth it. I thought the lunch portions were plenty for one person and very well worth it. You have the option of fried rice, steamed rice, or chow mein, and a choice between soup or salad. I always enjoy the egg flour soup with a bit of chili oil. My Mongolian beef was also delicious and well cooked. Definitely looking forward to coming back here! read more

Came here for a spur-of-the-moment Sunday dinner and everyone enjoyed it. It is a small little restaurant but it offers great family style dinning. The staff are friendly and we were seated very quickly. The family style dining easily fed our little family of three with some leftovers. Definitely recommend this charming little spot. First of all, my friend, her mother and I walked in and was not greeted. Server looked all confused as of why we were there by her looks. Did not even walk up to us, just talked to us across the restaurant and asked for how many. Then proceed to walk over and assist the people behind us, as if we weren't first. Then finally she led us to a table and gave us menus. When ordering food she looked all confused on stuff we had ordered. And when she brought over our food is was huge portions and was not expecting that at all. Wish she had warned us about the large unnecessary large portions . I loved our lunch/dinner here. There was outdoor seating available with a fountain in the courtyard, but because it was cold, we opted to go indoors. The table service was fantastic. Our orders arrived quickly, still steaming. We opted to make a 'dinner' out of our combination plates. The amount of food served was spectacular. We had egg flour soup, egg rolls, pot stickers, salads, and fried shrimp as our 'before entree' eats. They were tasty. The sauce that came with the pot stickers was weird. It seemed pretty much like straight-up vinegar. I mixed it (the vinegar sauce) in with my leftover sweet and sour sauce, hot mustard, and soy sauce. It was perfect. For our entrees, I had curry chicken and my husband had san yan. My only observation was that the curry was light. I would have liked much spicier curry and more sauce. Everything was tasty. We left with a healthy amount of take-out for eating later. We enjoyed the atmosphere and overall experience. We have been searching for a nice Chinese Restaurant and were pleased to come across this one. So many seem to be take-out with very limited seating and styrofoam plates (yuck). I've been searching for a good Chinese restaurant since I moved to Fresno eight years ago!! We ordered online last night and the food was delicious!! Just like I used to get in my hometown! I loved it! The portions were generous and everything was cooked to perfection!! Their service was fast and the food arrived hot and with all the condiments!! I live near EMW China Bistro. I use their take out service. The person answering the phone I pleasant. Food is prepared quickly and is ready when I arrive. Price is acceptable. The place is clean and staff are friendly. Food quality is good. I usually order Mongolian beef. I especially like the option of being able to order brown rice. read more

3 stars only because of the insane portion sizes...everything else was ehhhhh Super outdated place, ambiance wasn't it at all, feels like you're in a different time era. With that being said I'd say take out is the right move rather than dining in. They have a good lunch option that comes with a soup/salad and entree. Orange chicken entree is a huuuge plate, definitely could we split between two. Rice was unfortunately pretty dry but the chicken was bomb. We were immediately seated at a booth with only about 3 other people in the place around lunchtime. Food came out in almost a concerning short amount of time. I've been searching for a good place in Fresno for Chinese food for quite some time. I was recommended this establishment by a coworker. Decided to take the family there to celebrate my birthday. We ordered vegetable chow mein, sweet and sour chicken, and Mongolian beef. Wow everything was flavorful and aromatic. COVID-19 PHASE: I ordered their healthy Chicken with Vegetables Special via GrubHub, paid for it and it told me that my order was sent and I'll be notified when the restaurant confirms it. I received the notification via Yelp. Thank you and went to get it. I walked in and waited for a few minutes and a worker came. Not greeted or anything. She thought I was going to order. All so very tasty along with outstanding service. For the last couple months a friend has kept mentioning lunch here at China Bistro today was the day and can't say enough good about it all. It was like a flashback, many years ago my hubby & I came here often. We arrived just after big lunch crowd & soon enough before they close at 2:30 until 4:00. Friend had the lunch Kung Pao Chicken she enjoyed every little bit of it. There were many red peppers throughout for that added heat. Today my choice was the Lunch Cashew Chicken, my mouth won't stop watering. We both chose the Egg Drop Soup, yummy and served at perfect temperature. The Cashew Chicken sauce is indescribable was like fresh & soothing (can you call a food soothing? I just did). Portioned my plate to have some to take home for a few bites in the evening. Service our server was so sweet & accommodating. Honestly think I'll go back again this week. Make sure you check the hours it is closed 2:30-4;00 they do take takeout orders. TLDR: Bland and overcooked. My measure of any Chinese-American takeout joint is always sweet-and-sour pork. There's a few reasons for this. First, pork is easy to overcook and make tough, so it takes some proper technique to get tender pork with a crispy exterior. Second, the sauce is a good way to judge flavor. Too sweet? Too tangy? The sauce will tell you if they are actually tasting their food or just throwing canned ingredients in. Lastly, the freshness of the preparation. If the dish is sitting too long, the sauce will inevitably destroy the crispy exterior of the pork. So if you get it and everything's falling apart, you know it was sitting around far too long. Most places fail one or two of these judging points. Rarely do they get all three right. Even more rarely do I come across an establishment that manages to do all three wrong. The meat was chewy and turned granular as overcooked pork does. The sauce is in the same league of taste as off-brand ketchup. And, of course, the entire thing was a congealed mess lacking any texture but "soggy" by the time it was delivered (which was, much to the delivery folks' good work, 12 minutes after pickup, well within a reasonable serving time.) read more

Calling all Gluten Free peeps! An authentic Chinese restaurant with GF sweet and sour chicken....that taste AMAZING! I must be dreaming. Went on Uber eats - hardly ever use the app because there's nothing but junk food ... Decided to type Gluten Free and China Bistro came up to my surprise. Scanned the menu and to my delight found 4-5 gluten free entree items... all traditional... lemon chicken, orange chicken, chefs chicken... I got the egg drop soup and gf sweet and sour chicken and was so pleased! Yumm! Fresh ingredients, big portions too we had leftovers for the next day! New fav to go place! I don't think I've ever see authentic Asian GF items on a menu in Fresno. Maybe they have a Celiac family member. Ordered via Yelp for delivery. The third party delivery fees almost doubled the cost of my order so just a heads-up on that front. The egg rolls were tasty, crispy, and served with a great sweet and sour dipping sauce. The mango green tea was slightly sweet and perfectly refreshing. The entree plate I ordered included both Kung Pao chicken and sweet and sour chicken with a scoop of rice on top of a bed of chow mein. Both chickens were delicious but the Kung Pao had no spice! The rice was also pretty bland (it was a plain brown rice not pork fried rice with veggies like I'm used to seeing from other Chinese restaurants). Have been going to Bullard & West China Bistro for a very long time & up until our last take-out order, it was amazing. I don't know if kitchen staff has changed, but something happened.
